Appreciate the tunes LL, but it’s way past time for these racist haters to be castigated, relentlessly.

bullshit (in reference to the concept itself. Not a reference to you Sue).

Lionel is so talented it can’t be overstated. The amount and quality of material that he has written puts him in some pretty rare are among singer/song writers. Man, I love his stuff!

Earlier today while I was on a break from what was an extremely busy day at work I saw this and it really pissed me off:

“I am stunned our President just said “we tortured” people from the podium. This is a PR victory for our enemies. Make it stop. Make it stop.” ~Amanda Carpenter @amandacarpenter

That is one of the least intelligent things that I have read in a long time. If we are to look at the countries of the world and tell them that we are the good guys and the opposition is the bad guys in our struggle against those who wish us ill, that their behavior is unacceptably evil and we are on the side of the angels then our assessment must be accurate. In other words effectively claiming the moral high ground requires actually fucking occupying it! The PR win for those who hate us was when the unspeakable act was committed, not when the next president acknowledged that it was wrong! Nobody didn’t notice those pictures from Abu Ghraib! Nobody forgot that Dick Cheney cleared torture, was cowardly enough to call it “enhanced interrogation” instead of what it is (demonstrating that he knew it was wrong), and his remarkably stupid fucking puppet in the Oval Office stood behind him on it. These loathsome psychopaths are why we had an image problem to try and mend after they finally left office and this honest man in the Oval Office today has been steadily doing just that. Acknowledging the wrong only serves to advance that effort!

Damn it these neo-cons piss me right off!

I need to listen to Jerry Garcia’s voice for a little bit and calm down now that I got that off of my chest.

According to his profile, this guy covers Congress for Fox News. Not an endorsement of this reporter — never seen him, don’t watch Fox News.

How cynical can you get? GOP Congresscritters really are the dregs of society.

I Got it. Twitter instantly can reveal a heck of a lot. But, I would get it more when he goes on Fox and actually reports this as stated than if and when given an opportunity to air his stories…..more than likely, Chad Pergram would cage his and tilt his reporting to how president Obama or the Dems are to be blamed…..His conversations as confessed by the GOP House members would Never make it as stated on any Fox TV/Cable or Websites.

    http://www.latinodecisions.com/blog/2014/08/01/latino-voters-reject-house-gop-border-proposal/

On the last day before summer recess, House Republicans failed to address the humanitarian crisis at the border and the broken immigration system, which triggered it. Instead, the bill they support, just a few months before the midterm election, is a signal that the GOP has turned its back on Latino voters. A projected analysis of the Latino vote in the upcoming mid-term Congressional races by Latino Decisions shows how this shortsighted strategy will prove costly to the GOP in 2014 and 2016. When asked which party is to blame for the lack of immigration reform Latinos say Republicans by a 3-to-1 margin. With an opportunity to actually address our broken immigration system, House Republicans instead opted to increase a military presence on the border and make it easier to deport immigrant children. Is this what GOP leader Reince Preibus called for in renewed Hispanic outreach?

    More at the link.

Only reason it isn’t a 100/1 margin – the US media LIES about what the GOP is doing and what it stands for.

Hope this isn’t a duplicate — attempted to post this a few minutes ago.

Tweet from Congressional reporter for Fox News. Know nothing about him, never watch Fox News.

    • August 1, 2014 at 10:52 pm

Forgot to say that GOP congresscritters are the dregs of society — how cynical is it to be concerned only for your paycheck and pension and potential future lucrative lobbying gig and willfully ignore your sworn duties (i.e., representing the wishes of your constituents).

It’s not 2010 anymore, and the MSM cannot gin up a non-existent “tea party” to vote in these loathsome creatures if Dems and Independents vote in November.

I hate the pervasive racism built into the Beltway media reporting. I had no idea it existed before, but the fact that they allow Bachmann, Palin, Joe Wilson, remarks slide with no push-back proves their agenda and inherent racism (but of course the don of the Beltway, Ron Fournier, will block anyone who suggests the truth.

The whole lot of them needs to go. Will not read any of their nonsense after the First Family has left the White House.

I’m late to the party and have been catching up.
My thought on the President’s use of the term “folks..” We us this word colloquially and personally…..they’re good folks, going to see the folks, a folksy evening, etc. The antangonists can’t stand it, because, by calling the people we tortured “folks” he admits their common humanity with us.
He did not say “we tortured terrorists.” We tortured ordinary people like you, like me, like all of us. These writers sensed this, and could not stand it. That he would allow humanity to the people we tortured was more than they could take. There is a strong subtext in that word, they sensed it, and reacted accordingly.

If people are ‘folks” they are human, and should not be treated this way, which disagrees with everyone the complainers accept.

      August 1, 2014 at 11:07 pm

It adds a human element to them that so many cannot accept. I watched a movie about this and made me rethink the whole ‘terrorist’ concept that the right winged media harps about.

    • August 1, 2014 at 11:07 pm

So right you are, carolyn. I didn’t connect the usage to the intentional view of the tortured as humans. Guess I took it for granted they always were- apparently so did PBO. The noise is all a cover for their dismay of his calling out the torturers. Good night.

Great insight, Carolyn, and couldn’t agree more. The President and First Lady rarely use the world ‘people,’ and have consistently referred to us as folks for exactly the reasons you stated. Every single folk that was tortured was a human being like all of us. Thank you for bringing it home.

A CALL TO ARMS (particularly to Michiganders?)

Koch family (not just the brothers) max out on contributions to Terri Lynn Land – By Eclectablog on August 1, 2014

    //………….

While it’s easy to hammer on the “Koch brothers” given their immense wealth, let’s not forget about all the other Koch millionaires out there spending money to buy elections & politicians in order to pass laws and set policy that swells their bottom line.

They see these political contributions as investments. And we should, too.

Thank you again, Bobfr. Your tweets along side of Nerdy W. should be a book to have in each of our libraries. You and so many here within this TOD family have such a beautiful way with words. It is my an honor to just be in the company of all of the brilliant and loving minds here at TOD.

Thank you again. Good Nite all. A little music and a low candles will keep my heart calm and peaceful We are going to make it, no matter what the vile and very ugly ones try to say to us and about PBO. He is a very strong soul. And I know we are as well. if PBO can keep walking, and he is the President; I know I can make it. I have to trust and believe so that the present young and old need my help alongside of our great and decent POTUS. And we will make it, though it may be very difficult at times. My faith in PBO is stronger and steady than any instrument of evil and vile ugly heart who go up against him. I have see so much in my life and been through so much; and I will Not give up. We may stumble, but we will Not fall. () HZ

.S. Reps. Charlie Dent, Mike Fitzpatrick, Jim Gerlach and Pat Meehan – of Pennsylvania – and South Jersey’s Frank LoBiondo, Jon Runyan and Chris Smith all supported the bill, which passed a sharply divided House in a 225-201 vote. No Democrats voted for the bill.

My teams are being destroyed before my own eyes…..the Pacers season is over for next year (possibly longer)…..this is exactly why Lemarcus Aldridge & Kevin Love are not playing for team USA in the FIBA tournament. The video of the injury is so horrific and disgusting I refuse to post it…..The Colts best defensive player Robert Mathis is suspended for the first 4 games, and Auburn’s players are dropping like flies (1rst team Freshman All-American Carl Lawson tore his ACL, Freshman All-American OL Alex Kozan’s season is over after having back surgery, and starting QB Nic Marshall is suspended for some portion of their 1rst game against SEC West foe Arkansas)

God damn morons!!!!!!!!!! How the hell you expect a 6′ 8″ guy running down the court to block a shot & land safely???????

This is alarming—-Toledo, Oh., our final night’s stop on recent road trip, issued a water alert at 2:00 A.M.—-a do not drink, do not boil, do not give to pets—–toxins from alga formed on Lake Erie, their water source. Stores are already running out of bottled water. Lots of water problems everywhere.

Dotster, I hope Toledo finds some solutions fast. Too many “do nots” and no “do’s” are not answers.
