Musical evening chat – Sometimes you just need Lionel Richie

Nicole Richie’s father was known for something before his daughter hit the ropes with Paris Hilton. For those of us of a certain age, Lionel Richie was a staple of summer radio. A little evening music to take away the day’s stress.

I feel badly about this, for the people it will affect….but they need a nail in their coffin.

Too many threads – I’m not finished reading the last one – and haven’t started the one before – catching up is harder than getting the GOP to pass any legislation

Just back in from the watering of the new turf. Everyone who drives by stares – since our drought (which broke 2011 with a flood) no-one waters gardens any more. It feels quite weird. Some folks wave – I’ve no idea who they are but I wave back.

        • August 1, 2014 at 9:15 pm

Oh heavens, I seriously want a fly-on-the-wall show on 99ts in her garden 😆

Well the neighbor wandered out in her dressing gown – I did put on the jeans & sweater – which may/may not have been an improvement

This selling up isn’t for the timid, hope someone appreciates all my efforts.

            • August 1, 2014 at 9:26 pm

That outdoor dressing gown thing, I don’t get it 99ts.

That’s another one of my laws when I rule the world, dressing gown outdoors —> life without parole.

Oh, Chips, my next door neighbor goes out in his underwear. Not a sight you want to see in the morning. I’m casting my vote for your ruling the world campaign because life without parole for underwear exposure sounds fair to me.

      14 hours ahead – 5 threads behind

Hi, TS! I figured I’d best acknowledge your comment to me on this thread so as not to give any further ammunition to uknowho. I’m not ahead in time, but I was almost that far behind when I entered the village today. I must say I’m almost up to par now, or I would be if people would agree on communal break periods where no new info was allowed into the village. 😉 😉

Hi JackieG! Did you see that tweet I left you? It was because of that that Chips caught me on the Early Bird thread. I was trying to tiptoe through but paused to give you an answer and, of course, she was in spy mode.

Dan Froomkin, a journalist with The Intercept website said: “Obama referred to the people we tortured – and the people who tortured them – as ‘folks’. Neither is really appropriate.”

This “folks-gate” nonsense is just like a Monty Python skit. I mean, seriously? Let’s ignore GWB and media personality Dick Cheney actually tortured people, but instead dwell on the fact that the President who ended the torture policy used the word “folks” during a press conference. There is no doubt this was the order from GOP to push this meme. It makes no sense to anybody not living in the DC bubble.

      • August 1, 2014 at 8:36 pm

Our media is self-referential, which interests no one outside of their echo-chamber.

        • August 2, 2014 at 6:47 am

Yep! Media people are basically talking to themselves! They’ve decided that they all hate President Obama and they will do whatever it takes to try to convince the American people to join then in their hatred. To accomplish that, they start acting like an echo chamber. They will repeat gotcha you and negative analyses of President Obama over and over again, 24-7. They will then take bogus polls to inform us how we all hate President Obama. And when President Obama visits different communities –both here and abroad– where he is greeted with genuine enthusiasm and warmth, the media will make sure to black-out coverage of the President’s reception so as to deprive the rest of us Americans the pain of seeing President Obama, the supposedly hated one, so warmly and enthusiastically received, wherever he goes in this country or abroad.

Unfortunately, for the MSM, they have not yet caught up to the reality that increasingly, many of us Americans no longer exclusively depend only on them for information. Moreover, a great many of us no longer buy into the shoddy, unethical, and propagandist analyses and commentaries by MSM pundits. The same goes for a great many of the MSM’s self-serving negative polls that are always trotted out to justify their attacks and denigration of President Obama.

Eric, this “gate” enters the great pantheon of idiocy that included this week’s cole slaw scandal. Just when you think the American media can’t get any more irrelevant, they reach another level.

  11. August 1, 2014 at 8:26 pm

I got a robo call earlier tonight. You know the “breathless”, fear-filled message about how awful Lamar Alexander, linked him with President Obama and we must send Joe Carr to “do the right thing” and clean up Washington. He is conservative blah, blah, blah, blah…………Don’t remember who paid for…..some Citizens for ???????. Joe Carr is the TP candidate, btw.

    • August 1, 2014 at 8:28 pm

Ugh, tnmtngirl, I always wish these were done by live people and you could blow a whistle REALLY loud in their ear.

      • August 1, 2014 at 8:55 pm

Oooooh, that would be cool! 🙂

        • August 1, 2014 at 9:00 pm

Good advice from my late Dad, Tnmtngirl! He was a witness in a case years back, a bunch of thugs in a car terrorizing people on the road one night, and then they, somehow, got hold of our home’s number and began making threatening calls. So for a week or so, until they were stopped, he put a whistle by the phone, and any time we answered we emptied our lungs in to it. Hopefully they still have perforated ear drums 🙂

  12. August 1, 2014 at 8:40 pm

Aren’t Moscow political pundits about as accurate as ours?

They think Kremlin unlikely to deny #Snowden asylum extension request, but wouldn’t #Ukraine tensions make it likely that #Snowden is denied further asylum?

    • 84 99ts
      August 1, 2014 at 9:23 pm

Putin will extend – because Obama – but if Snowden came home – watch the GOP decide he is a whistleblower, not a spy – because – the same reason.

Happy August to TODville, happy birthday, President Obama. Hope you have an wonderful, relaxing day with your family and friends at Camp David this weekend.

This week, @latimes profiled a book about Pacific Ocean Park (in LL’s neighborhood) which closed in August 1967, which prompted me to see what else happened then:

We seemed much closer to #post-racial 47 years ago than now.

I see the media is all real proud of Boehner for getting some weak sauce of a bill passed, a “nothingburger” (fave word), and are real excited about it as they proclaim he and the House Repubs have solved the border and immigration crisis. Ay yi yi.

A police officer stops a blonde for speeding and asks her very nicely if he could see her license.

The House Republicans stayed in Washington on the first day of their holidays after they abandoned a scheduled vote on Thursday in the face of opposition from conservatives within their own party.

The new bill had tougher language and gave an additional $35m for the National Guard to be based at the southern border.

It would also speed up the deportation and repatriation of the children by stripping them of anti-human trafficking protections written into a 2008 law.

And it would reverse Barack Obama’s policy of deferring action against minors brought to the US illegally by their parents, which brought a scathing response from the White House.

A statement said: “The legislation put forward tonight by House Republicans does not responsibly address the problem of unaccompanied children apprehended at the border, and could result in the deportation of hundreds of thousands of… young people who were brought to this country as children and are Americans in every way but on paper. ”

In a press briefing earlier, the president said he would have to make tough choices himself, hinting at executive actions he can make without Congress.

He accused the Republicans of not trying to genuinely solve the problem.
