On This Day – Pete Souza: “The President talks with the six-year-old son of departing staff member David Vandivier just outside the Oval Office. The youngster had just inquired how old the President was going to be in a few days (the President’s birthday is Aug. 4). ’52,’ the President replied. ‘Whoa!’ said the six-year-old.” Aug. 1, 2013
Here’s the difference, AMK. The mean girl on the left is younger than the mean girl on the right and has better lip gloss than the thin-lipped Coulter. The mean girl on the left sneers her way through daily morning shows with a lot of sententious looking old white men (I see that curled lip on the blessedly muted screens in the gym). Fortunately Ann Coulter doesn’t get as much tv screen time, so I can proudly say I never see her image. They are both paid a lot to stir up bigotry and racial animosity. So there you have it.
sis unit left for UK today morn. I am here at city for another 2 days. Next week, prolly. I heard the lil rascals are already feeding from their dog trays and are frisky.
Morning. When you wake up to Republican antics, you wake up to Looney Tunes Land. The question isn’t what is happening in the world today? It’s what insanely inhumane, hate-filled, anti-American sabotage is the GOP up to today. Nothing–no matter how obscene, bigoted and stupid–surprises me anymore. I couldn’t be more grateful for this place of sanity.
Finally got a new computer last month, but now I am unable to copy a URL from Word to the Internet (doesn’t work for either IE or Chrome) — I think it’s a problem with Word’s clipboard.
I asked a question on MSFT forum and the response I got was to right-click on the URL in Word — but it doesn’t give me the option to “copy,” only to paste — and this was when I just turned on my computer, and had not copied anything to the clipboard.
I also changed the advanced option in Word to “keep text only” when pasting from other programs.
Do you have any ideas on how to get my !@C^##& clipboard to work in Word? (No problem copying URL from Excel.)
First, when you have a link in the word file, it has to be active. Hit enter after you pasted the link in the word file. It will turn blue with an underline.
Once the link is active, then you click ‘open hyperlink’ and the page will open in your default browser.
I was one of the XP holdouts, but my 8 year old computer is barely functioning, hence new computer.
I’ve got Word 2013 — downloaded from MSFT, paid for at Best Buy. I’m wondering if I can download my old Office 2003 from a CD to this computer (no CD drive, external CD reader), but I think I would muck up my new computer forever.
My default browser is IE11. I use Google Chrome only for sites that IE can’t handle, such as T-Mobile (IE screen freezes and flashes when I attempt to use T-Mobile site).
Bizarrely, clicking on “open hyperlink” in a Word document works when the URL is a MSFT, but not any other (e.g., TOD, twitter, etc.).
2013 ??? oh boy. Have no idea what other fuckups m$ has done to that ‘product’. I suggest firefox or chrome as your default browser. I stopped IE at their version 6.0 or some such shite.
from where did you get the links for the word file anyway? I avoid using links in my letters and reports. See if there is an icon called permissions in the word. May be your links are protected by the sender.
The links are just references for me, not for professional use.
Links are to TOD, twitter, newspaper sites, etc., nothing funky or obscure.
Where would permissions be? I find it hard to find most everything in Windows 8. MSFT wanted a “clean” interface for users, which means almost everything is hidden. Their designers put beauty ahead of functionality, IMHO.
you don’t need to store your links in your word file. you can just use favorites/bookmarks function in your browser by clicking add to favorites/bookmark this page buttons in the browser.
yes, 2003 was their user friendly crap. rest were all bs.
I can never locate them. I have bookmarked a couple of sites on my new computer but there’s not enough detail to know why the heck I favorited the site.
Thanks for your help, though.
This is why grumpy old men (and women) are the way that they are. Changing stuff that worked into complicated obstacles for users is time-wastingly frustrating.
AMK, I’m trying to find the tweet you sent the other day showing all the big items the R’s didn’t vote on compared to the one they did–sue the president. I looked on your twitter page and didn’t see it, then tried looking through all the posts here. Do you remember the one I mean?
I have looked carefully, twisting my head to see behind me, and annoyingly I haven’t yet been able to spot the bell attached to your computer that I seem to wear! Drat-drat-dratty-drat! Darn!!!
This is what America represents to other countries. Brought tears to my eyes, yet GOP clamor for stagnant culture. If it were up to the “I want America back” nutters, we’d all be feasting on bangers and mash and dancing the polka — no rock ‘n roll, rhythm & blues, jazz, etc. (no offense to northern Europeans, but diversity makes life interesting):

Uganda’s Constitutional Court has annulled tough anti-gay legislation signed into law in February.
It ruled that the bill was passed by MPs in December without the requisite quorum and was therefore illegal.
Homosexual acts were already illegal, but the new law allowed for life imprisonment for “aggravated homosexuality” and banned the “promotion of homosexuality”.
Several donors have cut aid to Uganda since the law was adopted.
And there you have it. I suppose more people entered the labor force…and I suspect this number will be revised “UP” next month. 🙂 But all in all, not a bad report!!!
Much better than expected. May and June revised UP by 15,000 jobs.
Plus and this is a big plus the participation rate improved slightly as well. The participation rate is what the GOP uses to demean the jobs numbers and in truth it hasn’t improved in some time, BUT this month it went up!!
Every sword they sharpen against this Administration and its excellent stewardship of the economy is blunted or broken sooner or later.
I have said this for years, but imagine how much better this economy would be if POTUS had a Congress who was willing to work with him, instead of against him. If anyone ought to be sued it ought to be those do nothing House Republicans.
I LOVE THIS PICTURE WITH PBO AND SUCH A SWEET YOUNG BOY…AAAAH YES…A PRECIOUS BIRTHDAY INDEED…COMING SOON…AND I HOPE HIS CELEBRATION IS AS BEAUTIFUL AS PBO’S HEART IS………………….HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ENERGIZER BUNNY PRESIDENT WITH THE SMOKIN’ SHOES!
Interesting to see all the diff headlines on jobs report——from “employment growth continued at solid pace” (Chgo Trib) to “job growth slows” (NBC). Revealing.
Yes, NYT and AP both have the “Inched/crawled up” headline as well…Good thing there is twitter so people will know WHAT is driving the minor increase – which the dishonest media won’t report…
I commented above on the GOP’s undying efforts to rain on the Economy’s parade.
Again, one way the GOP/MSM trys to take the air out of the balloon when the economic reports are good, is they squeal about “low participation rates.”
Well folks, this month even that measure IMPROVED. Yes, improved.
I love it when the last semi-valid talking point is no longer so true.
Purposely. When the news is good the enemies of the state attempt to bury the actual numbers under a blizzard of confusion.
Good morning TOD. Hopefruit and Nerdy, Linda and JER and all who are getting the truth about our country’s continued prosperity under the superb leadership of PBO.
So Chuck Todd opines that America is “fatigued” by Obama, the man, the president, and his policies. You know what I’m fatigued about? —-Chuck Todd’s continuing highly partisan, clueless, determined campaign to denounce PBO at every appearance. What a shameful fraud.
He’s a shameful fraud alright and you know what, It’s actually reassuring that he said that – because his “opinion” is always the OPPOSITE of reality. If he had said that “America LOVES PBO,” then I would be worried!!!
We’re “fatigued” by the MSM’ attempts to constantly undermine PBO. NOT by PBO!!! The constant negativity coming from the Beltway pundits, the MSM, and the Rethuglicans are fatiguing, but the President is energizing! These people are always backwards.
Hasn’t anyone in the upper echelons of NBC noticed that Chuck Todd is ALWAYS wrong? Or do they keep him for “comic” relief?
Exactly, Dotster, the idiot set himself up for that. American is sick to death, fatigued up the eyeballs, and irritated beyond measure by the moronic musings of incompetent pseudo journalists like Todd. What a numbnuts.
Wonder how much the right wing gave Chucky to say that. What I am tired of is two bit pundits telling me what I am fatigued of. The people who welcome POTUS to KC this week didn’t look fatigued of him, they were glad to see him.
Compare sourpuss upchuck to this week in Kansas City. And not just the regular citizens and small business owners in Parkville MO, but the enthusiastic reporter.
this tweet should be linked to pics of folks wrapped around buildings to see POTUS and different pics of everyday people meeting our POTUS over the last few weeks. i.e America is “fatigued” from POTUS with link to a pic and @reference to Chucky Toad. Best way to deal with this is to laugh at it.
This, along with #coleslawgate, proves that the MSM is clutching at straws.
They can’t do any better than these trivialities to “prove” their POV.
They’ll be on vacation with Congress this month and will feebly try to undermine Dems whenever they can. Recall yesterday that MSM headlines were about the “House” disarray relating to Immigration Bill, deftly avoiding informing their audience that it was Republicans in chaos. Yet they miss no opportunity to bash “Dems in disarray” — guess they like the alliteration.
I love this response by Turkish women to a politician warning them not to laugh in public. This would be an appropriate response to every just as goofy utterance by Repub politicians here.
Thanks for explaining #coleslawgate to me a few threads back.
Also, did you see that the murder-suicide in Chicago that you posted here yesterday was by the CIO of a tech company who was about to be displaced, no doubt by someone younger (he had been with the company since its founding).
Apparently there’s going to be this *HUGE* announcement, which I suspect has to do with DCCC extreme fundraising over the PBO Impeachment/Lawsuit issue….
Now all that Democratic Party base has to do is show up and vote this November. Exercising the franchise is the best way for them to have Obama’s back. A check means nothing if it’s not backed up by a ballot being cast.
I know sometimes we get frustrated when people call him “Obama” instead of President Obama, but many times it’s not out of disrespect. It’s the idea that PBO himself is bigger than the Presidency – to a lot of people, he means more than just “US President” and after 2017, we will see this even more clearly. 🙂
I totally understand our upset when news people don’t give our president his title. But hopefruit has it…..he’s bigger than the presidency. It’s like when people say “FDR” or “JFK” they are bigger than any one office.

Well, hoooooooooooly smoley! Morning Grandpa!

amk, did y’all name the puppies on Sunday?
sis unit left for UK today morn. I am here at city for another 2 days. Next week, prolly. I heard the lil rascals are already feeding from their dog trays and are frisky.
Great progress! Won’t be long before they will be wanting to explore the outdoors. 😯
Safe travels for you and your sister unit.
Oh, she is already in UK.
Now monkeys with their piglets vs pups show.
Playground rules will have to be established!
Amk, how big is your total household pet menagerie?
Oh my God! They’re going to have babies of their own before they have proper names!
“Hey, you, No.1” does not count as a name!

Thanks for the response (much faster than MSFT forum, which took about 24 hours).
My Word links are blue, but nothing happens when I click on “Open hyperlink.”
This gives me something to go on, so let me do some testing in Word.
Thanks!
which version of word are you using? I use only 2003 since 2007 and 2010 are teh suck.
Have you set your default browser?
I was one of the XP holdouts, but my 8 year old computer is barely functioning, hence new computer.
I’ve got Word 2013 — downloaded from MSFT, paid for at Best Buy. I’m wondering if I can download my old Office 2003 from a CD to this computer (no CD drive, external CD reader), but I think I would muck up my new computer forever.

Wish I had asked you before I downloaded 2013 Office — I have no idea how to “undo” a download — the apps are in the “cloud” not on my hard drive.
Chrome won’t help because the problem is with Word. When I try to paste a URL from Word to Chrome nothing happens.

gm amk – that is what I tell my husband whenever he is driving – he NEVER speeds – but all those maniacs that pass him by are definitely speeding.
GM 99ts. Yes, men are asshats.
I loves him – but he is a maniac driver – road rages all the way to work & then says – “that was one of my fastest trips ever!”
AMK, I’m trying to find the tweet you sent the other day showing all the big items the R’s didn’t vote on compared to the one they did–sue the president. I looked on your twitter page and didn’t see it, then tried looking through all the posts here. Do you remember the one I mean?

I love this–a perfect image, but it was a written list. Maybe I imagined it.
This? (And don’t tell Chips I was walking about in Early Bird at 6pm, okay?)
I see you.
VC. Early Bird Chat? Really? Wot?
Damn!

I have looked carefully, twisting my head to see behind me, and annoyingly I haven’t yet been able to spot the bell attached to your computer that I seem to wear! Drat-drat-dratty-drat! Darn!!!

Happy August and Friday everyone.

Knoller is trying his best to be an absolute douchebag about the positive jobs report. He’s trying to comfort his RW followers…
Before year-end, I believe the UR will dip below 6%.
Agree, this is a bizarre tweet.
America was blissfully sailing that fraudster (aka banking) bubble just before their casino dominos crashed in Sep 2008.
July 2008 is about as meaningful now as whatever the unemployment rate was in July 1980.

A bad joke right, by NPR.
When Dana Bash @CNN is bashing the GOP on Twitter – things are bad….really bad..
Where has she been during the previous Congressional votes?
Hello, repeal ACA, impeach Obama, sue Obama, etc.
This article sums up how most of us Dems feel…and we’re taking that right to the polls in November!
