When PBO pointed this out, I was clapping inside – because it’s SO TRUE of this media. They are only interested in a topic to the extent they can join forces with the GOP in blaming PBO or in driving a wedge between him and his Dem supporters. Just two weeks ago they were sick over the immigration border issue – now that all seemed to have completely disappeared from their daily rosters…

Now they’re oh so interested in the CIA and Brennan, or the I/P conflict…like people can’t see through their B.S.

Not hearing much about the Obamacare PAID enrollment either, are we??? Not on major media, that’s for sure.
Good news for the country and its president must be suppressed.

They’re all over the CIA issue and of course, trotting out their BFF John McCain to “educate” us about Obama’s horrible, no good CIA….

Thanks for the tweets. I sincerely hope the GOP gets slammed in their districts for their despicable abdication of their responsibilities as elected officials. We absolutely have to throw these bums out!

What I witnessed today from President Obama was better than porn, let me rephrase that, it was as good as porn, there. When I heard that President Obama was going to be making a statement, I just knew he was going to be calling out some “folks.” This was classic Obama, the counter-puncher in chief. There was no way President Obama was going to let the Republican sashay on down the road to vacation without dropping a mic or two, and did he ever. A sitting President telling the world that his country tortured some “folks,” my god! Ladies and gentlemen you are watching a man that is so unencumbered it is almost scary. I am absolutely blown away by President Obama’s statement, I shouldn’t be, but I am.

/eyes widened in wonder/ You know, Layla, I never thought of it like that. My shoulders just straightened themselves and I am now sitting up straighter in my chair. Interesting …. and likely true given the carpet bombing Israel conducted today in East Rafah.

  15. August 1, 2014 at 7:10 pm

I would say about 85% of Palestinians are innocent bystanders. Caught in the middle of the Abused{Jews} who have now become the abusers, and Hanas who obviously cares not for Palestinians- of which they are a part of.
These two religions hate each other, and then you have the powerful Christian Evangelical movement here in America, fully supporting what Israel does and says.
    What a mess!!

    • 87 EricFive
      August 1, 2014 at 8:11 pm

What percentage of American civilians are “innocent bystanders” for the actions of the U.S. government? Are you and your family guilty for the actions of GWB, Rumsfeld and Cheney? Are mine? As I have said before, this situation could very easily be handled by Israel as police action as opposed to indiscriminate bombing, slaughtering women and children. Group punishment of a civilian population is wrong.

    • August 2, 2014 at 5:35 am

I wish you would stop peddling simplistic analyses about the struggle between Israel and the Palestinians. The struggle between Palestinians and Israelis is not about religion? The struggle is all about land, sovereignty, and human rights. The 1947 partition of the then British ruled Palestine divided the Palestinian territory into two: one part was to accommodate the Zionist dream of creating a Jewish homeland, the other part was for the indigenous Palestinian Arabs who, though they were mainly muslim, were made up of different religions, including quite a few prominent Christians. Palestinians who lived on the land designated as the Jewish homeland, were brutally attacked and systematically expelled, losing their homes, farms and other properties. Millions of them ended up in UN refugee camps in Gaza, West Bank, Jordan and Lebanon. Before the 1947 partition, Muslims, Jews, Christians, and other smaller religions lived, side by side, peacefully, in British mandated Palestine. The trouble between Palestinians and Israelis really began with the creation of the Jewish State of Israel, which welcomed Jews from all over the world, while at the same time Palestinian Arabs, Muslims, Christians and others, were systematically expelled from their homes, and their properties were given to the immigrant Jews from Europe and elsewhere. Then in 1967, Israel occupied the remaining part of Palestine (West Bank and Gaza) that the 1947 partition had explicitly allotted to the Palestinian Arabs of all religions. A great portion of the West Bank territory, including East Jerusalem, allotted to the Palestinian Arabs by the 1947 Partition of Palestine, has been annexed by Israel.Palestinians, both on the West Bank and Gaza Strip have lived under Israeli occupation since 1967. For you to frame the struggle between Israel and the Palestinians as simply a struggle between two religions reveals your ignorance of this crucial history.

Israel has a major dilemma.Israel wants to occupy and govern all the land of the original Palestine. At the same time, because of the fear of demographic changes, Israel, in order to remain an exclusive Jewish State, cannot allow the creation of a purely secular Democratic state in which Jews, Muslims, Christians and other religious sects, enjoy equal rights as citizens. Instead, Israel has chosen to maintain occupation, both direct and indirect, over non Jewish Palestinians, while pretending to grant autonomy to them. Unfortunately, there can never be peace in Palestine/Israel until Palestinian Arabs are either granted a sovereign state in which they can determine their own destiny; or until the land of Palestine becomes a secular Democratic state where all the people of all religions are treated as equal citizens. As long as Palestinians are denied equal treatment, and denied the right of self-determination to create a viable sovereign country, there will never be peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

This reality has very little to do with the religious differences between the two Abrahamic religions –Judaism and Islam– which lived side by side for centuries, most of the time peacefully, in many Middle Eastern countries, before the 1947 partition of Palestine. Unless we chose to forget, the Jewish holocaust was not carried out by Arab Muslims; it was carried out by White Christian Europeans. It’s truly ironic, and to be honest very sad, that White Christians, who for centuries persecuted Jews, now pretend to be friends of Jewish people; whereas Muslims, who tolerated and respected Jews, because they were “people of the book,” are now depicted as the centuries old mortal enemies of Judaism. Something has gone terribly wrong with the teaching of history in U.S. schools.

FYI, Jovie, I doubt that you will find a Palestinian who traces his/her enmity to Israel to ancient religious differences between Judaism and Islam. The majority of Palestinians talk about the violence and dispossession of 1947/48 that forced them to flee their homes and end up in refugee camps that still exist today; they also talk about the brutal occupation, following the 1967 war and the continued and systematic annexation of Palestinian land by Jewish settlers; and, the vast majority of them talk about the day-to-day humiliations that Palestinians have to endure under Israeli occupation. Although it’s true that the overwhelming majority of Palestinians hate zionism, I’ve yet to read accounts of Palestinians who hate jews simply because they hate Judaism. And how could they? Islam honors the Jewish prophets and traces its roots to Abraham.

Just checking in – have to go and water the grass, gaze as the sky & talk to the neighbors.

I’m trying to find out if the GOP actually voted for anything in congress yesterday. As usual, the media seems to have moved on to criticizing the President for using the word “folks” while not caring two hoots about the previous admin using torture.

They are incapable of thinking about more than one thing at a time – typical old white men.

Yesterday, it was #coleslawgate (dotster brought me up to speed):

Today it was #folksgate by the heroically smug, elite, inside-the-bubble snob known as @ezraklein wife:

But Chips set her straight (from the previous thread):

  19. 117 arapaho415
    August 1, 2014 at 7:22 pm

Instead of focusing on what PBO actually said (didn’t hear PBO’s remarks/WHPC questions before PBO answered Bill Plante’s question), our “optics” focused media and pols zero in on the word “folks,” not torture. I was surprised at the Beltway’s reaction, because I didn’t think it was news — as Chips pointed out, PBO said something similar 5 years ago.

How many headlines read like this?

  20. August 1, 2014 at 7:24 pm

200,000 people in Gaza have packed into more than 80 schools run by the U.N. seeking shelter and security http://nyti.ms/1zCva1g

How can you read this and NOT think Lodz ghetto?

    • August 1, 2014 at 7:28 pm

True. And, throughout most of Gaza, no electricity. So, sanitation systems are non-functional and drinkable water is nearly unavailable. That combination, if it persists a few more days, will mean that Israel can stop using expensive armaments and simply watch Palestinians die of dehydration +/- sepsis.

Hi Layla and Vc. My computer did that for about 2 months. I just gave up and stop using that one completely since it did not happen on the other computer. Then the other computer just decided that it would just stop working. Now this one decides if I move over to the right side of the screen too much, it give me layers of fine lines that are blurred like crazy. I am too old for this crap. I just had a service call for not being able for something that I cannot even remember now; but I do remember the tech decided that I needed to download 8.1 of some crap, and now this. Every time I put in a service call, the tech screws up my computer. I just cannot win with this mess. Too old, too broke and too everything to have all of this to happen to me all in one week. Not purchasing another computer because I just got this one.

I really need to find an older gentleman who has a decent bank account, very handsome to match his great manners and brains and full of laughter to take my worries away from this computer after the Nov., 2014 elections. Please pray for a finder for me, my TOD family. I am very serious. Pray, please. HZ

😀 OTOH, I suspect your criteria for a ‘gentleman’ will prove even more frustrating to fill.

Personally, though I’m a bit skeptical any more of those exist, I will wish you good luck in your search.
