In this case, I’m not sure. All his tweets that I’ve seen have been supportive, and in this one he seems to be expressing a genuine concern that our side doesn’t have a network behind us. Something we have all lamented from time to time. What I was trying to remind him of was the fact that despite this lack, we could still get our message out – as PBO did in 2008 and 2012.

I cannot believe what is going on at that crash site. No one is in charge except a rag tag bunch of goofs with guns. The bodies were allowed to remain where they fell for over 48 hours, 100+ still not recovered, reported looting of credit cards and other belongings, people just allowed to trample all over the crash site, recovered bodies being taken away in backs of trucks and driver doesn’t know where he’s taking them. This is the most indecent, disgusting response to a catastrophe I’ve ever seen. Decent people everywhere are in disbelief and outraged. I can’t even imagine the utter shock and agony of family members. And it looks like the world is in agreement on where the fault lies.

Where are the international forces to put an end to this atrocity? The treatment of a human catastrophe of this proportion hasn’t been this poorly handled since the days of the czars. It may come to that VC if these reports about what’s going on at the site are true (and I’m hugely wary of propaganda from both sides on this). Of course, if European/international forces helped, that could result in direct conflict with Russian-supported forces – and that’s beyond scary.
They have sent volunteers to help, VC, but it’s important to recognize that the are is controlled by Russian forces and Russian-armed Ukrainian separatists whom have been blatantly hostile to observers, the press and the volunteers. They informed the OSCE observers that if they didn’t leave the very small portion of the crash site they allowed them to see, they would take them hostage.
If Ukrainian forces arrived it would become a battlefield, immediately. That’s why so much pressure is being applied to Putin to give the orders to HIS troops (the actual commanders of the Ukrainian separatists) to back off. That’s the only way a full investigation can be underway and proper treatment of the victims assured.
BTW, the situation will become even more tense in the next few hours as various investigators from different Nations, including US FBI and NTSB experts begin arriving in Ukraine and traveling to the site.
Also, “the are” in the first sentence of my reply should be “the area” …

But I had that same reaction today when I watched this video of Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick talk about his plans to work with the federal government to provide shelter for the unaccompanied children who have come here from Central America. In NYC, meanwhile a small group of politicians mostly Dems I’ve voted for met at City Hall to “Stand With Israel.” Kept outside the gates were a few protesters.
The NY Times, today, referenced in its editorial the article from yesterdays editorial essays (Chips kindly posted it here yesterday) by Nathan Thrall placing the blame again where it belongs. The current assault by Israel may be at least partly understood as a tantrum sanctioned by the US and Europe in response to the Fatah-Hamas reconciliation alliance and its applications to the UN. Quite a tantrum.
The Times goes on to say that the best solution remains an agreement between the Palestinian Authority and Israel. I am delighted to see The times has a nuanced understanding of what is happening.

This was interesting—-just talked to daughter who just got back from Dallas—–where her co. was hosting a leadership training for Chicago Public School principals at their HQ there—–not clear on all the details——but somehow CBS sent Frank Luntz there (now works at CBS and FOX)—–and he was to host some segment there. But it soon became clear to all that Luntz was only interested in hearing bad stuff about PBO, Rahm and Dems——-cut off anyone who had anything positive to say—–this was supposedly going to be used for a CBS report on Back To School, or something. So the Chgo principals saw what was happening, became disgusted and enraged by the misleading dialogue and questions and all walked out on Luntz en masse. Hooray.
