The staff really did a tremendous job decorating with beautiful fruit and vegetables and lots of color for this event.
If you have a chance, you MUST see that young boy introduce FLOTUS. Smart and compassionate with a full sense of community giving and receiving, he finished by doing a brilliant riff on PBO’s famous lines from 2008 DNC. He made her cry and he definitely choked me up. What a brilliant young man!!

A Passenger Plane was Shot down in the Donetsk Region by “Buk” Missile System
On July 17, a large passenger aircraft Boeing 777, performing a flight between Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur, was shot down in the eastern part of Ukraine. According to the General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces, the airplane was crashed down by “Buk” missile system as the liner was flying at an altitude of 10,000 meters.
Ukraine has no long-range air defence missile systems in this area.
The plane was shot down, because the Russian air defence systems was affording protection to Russian mercenaries and terrorists in this area.
The leader of the terrorists Igor Girkin (Strelkov) immediately commented on the airplane catastrophe, believing that it was the Ukrainian jet that crashed down: “In Torez An-26 was shot down, its crashes are lying somewhere near the coal mine “Progress”. We have warned everyone: do not fly in our skies.” (see photo below – text in Russian)
Ukraine will present the evidence of Russian military involvement into the Boeing crash.
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called for the establishment of a National Commission with the involvement of the International Civil Aviation Organization and other international bodies to investigate the catastrophe. According to him, “those found responsible for this tragedy will be brought to justice.””

Hope you bought avocados for guac, b/c guac is the easiest thing on earth to make (just requires patience if the avocados are rockhard, LOL).
Just add lemon or lime juice and lots of garlic salt and Lawry’s seasoning salt. It’s better with some chopped tomatoes and minced cilantro (and I don’t like cilantro), but those aren’t required.
Thanks for the recipe tip—–I’ve always wondered—-but not enuf to look it up 🙂 but always have avocados around as I like them on my salads. Usually just do 3 ingredients or less, think I could manage 4, and I will skip the cilantro because you don’t even like it and I don’t even now what it is. Might like my own guac better—-one I bought is good but a little too oniony, or something biting.
Always gets raves — the secret, of course, is the garlic and seasoning salt. Yum.
Unfortunately, we’re told to limit our salt intake, but it’s truly a flavor enhancer. I guess you could by using kosher salt — which is bigger than table salt, so a little goes a long way.

The Delaware youngster was just adorable — he had to have been nervous, and was so well-dressed, a welcome change from the horror of #MH17.

The governor is preparing to vote for a $500,000.00 dollar subsidy to build a stadium; municipal employees making over $100,000.00 will receive a 5% raise. They interviewed people who have no water; can’t take a bath, warm formula for their baby, they can’t cook or “flush a toilet.”
My Lord, when will the madness stop. These are human beings, we are in America, and we throw the least of these in the sewage? The governor is controlling this, how does he sleep at night?
This is why we “MUST” keep our eyes on the prize; it’s 2014 that will determine how long, and I pray that its not long.

There may be a reason for that. Right now there is an ongoing investigation and quite a bit going on behind the scenes. I don’t find it unusual. I think PBO gave a statement today only because the US is seen as the world “leader” and he has to deal with a shitty media and opposition party. Otherwise, he has said very little and emphasized that there is still a lot that remains to be investigated. I am pretty certain that we will be hearing plenty more from NATO/EU by Monday.

The Kid’s state dinner is a lovely oasis in the midst of such anguish and horror in the world. Congrats to all the kids and especially POTUS and FLOTUS for making everything move forward despite the other issues. I don’t think people realize how much planning and organization goes into each event and how many folks will be disappointed if cancelled. Some people multitask very well. You can see that FLOTUS, knowing what is happening, did not expect her husband to come in but he did. I find that particularly praiseworthy.
But, these people are at war because they don’t want peace. If they wanted peace, the Israelis would start treating the Palestinians with some respect as full citizens in their own homeland. And if they wanted peace, the Palestinians would stop shooting rockets into Israel and engaging in terrorist attacks. And if we wanted peace, we Americans, then we’d stop enabling this conflict and start treating both sides equally instead as an extension of our own partisan civil war.
The simple brutal truth of the matter is that the reason there isn’t peace in Israel is because nobody wants peace in Israel.
