Yay for Susanne! Isn’t it remarkable how respectful the Obama Administration is to all faiths and even to those not aligned with any religion.

    Can’t stop watching this!!!!

So, there was a fun moment on CNBC: Rick Santelli went on a rant about inflation and the Fed, and CNBC analyst Steve Liesman went medieval on him:

“It’s impossible for you to have been more wrong, Rick. Your call for inflation, the destruction of the dollar, the failure of the US economy to rebound. Rick, it’s impossible for you to have been more wrong. Every single bit of advice you gave would have lost people money, Rick. Lost people money, Rick. Every single bit of advice. There is no piece of advice that you’ve given that’s worked, Rick. There is no piece of advice that you’ve given that’s worked, Rick. Not a single one. Not a single one, Rick. The higher interest rates never came, the inability of the U.S. to sell bonds never happened, the dollar never crashed, Rick. There isn’t a single one that’s worked for you.”

But here’s the thing: before Liesman started, Santelli yelled that he had been right all along — and some of the traders started applauding. Think about that: Liesman is of course right about Santelli’s record, and as I’ve pointed out many times this goes for all the inflationistas. So any trader who believed him would have lost money hand over fist. So why the applause?

Basically, I think, it’s because Santelli is their kind of guy; he hates the poors, he hates people who want to help the poors, he was trashing Janet Yellen for suggesting that she actually cares about the plight of the unemployed. And the traders feel the same way. So they like Santelli even though he’s been wrong about everything.

‘ he hates the poors’ — that’s a great quote from krugman. no muss no fuss.

      • July 14, 2014 at 9:08 pm

I’ve been waiting 5 years for someone to throw a wet towel on that moron Santelli……. I was pontificating that there must be new management b/c he Liesmann wasn’t the only one torching him….it was the whole panel. Leismann just didn’t let Santelli shout him down and calmly did a hatchet job on his career.

Congrats on first BTW Susanne 😎

          Hi lovelyplains,
Happy BEAUTIFUL Monday evening to you!

I so agree with your statement, the very first time I heard this guy, I thought he was an actor. Then I saw him again and he was foaming at the mouth on MSNBC, one of the morning shows that I use to watch back in the day, when I thought news was real.

He is a nut case and should not have been allowed to exist so long. I’ve often wondered if he has been sued from people taking his crazy advice.

Hello & good evening Cindy! ……I think he there for pure entertainment value, but the sad part is some people don’t know better and take his advice at face value….

rimpac happening now. this new ‘mule’ cracks me up– be sure to check out the video.

‘ “The goal of this machine is to go where the warfighter goes while carrying the load,” said Kevin Blankespoor, chief engineer on the Legged Squad Support System.

The Legged Squad Support System (LS3), which can reach speeds of 6 mph, is designed to carry at least 400 pounds and travel up to 20 miles without refueling.

The experimental robot, which is operated by a Marine with a sensor strapped to his or her foot, is being tested in the Kahuku Training Area as part of Rim of the Pacific 2014. ‘

Well, I’ll be back in a bit. It’s so hot here, my poor kitty has been lying in front of the fan all day! Lately she lets me sponge her down with a wet washcloth, yes, a cat! And I must admit, I am somewhat stuck on “the gravel roads have become oatmeal, the asphalt roads are like soup”, in Yellowstone. Okay, now THAT is HOT.

      which reminds me….. 🙂

‘..they warned visitors not to hike into the affected area, where the danger of stepping through solid-looking soil into boiling-hot water was high.

[on which pierce comments] Given all this, I think it’s probably time for the Congress to pass Ted Cruz’s idiotic amendment to allow oil and gas drilling on public lands because freedom. The last time this thing blew it rearranged the entire landscape of Wyoming. One of the previous eruption threw 2500 times the amount of ash into the air than did the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. Oil wells and some fracking are just what the tectonics ordered, I’m thinking. ‘

but really, here on hawaii island, the geophysicists have also warned us to run if the floorboards get hot. not sure if i want to step off the porch onto whatever is heating up the floors, though 🙂

“Once again, about the European leaders. As reported by our media, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is more often referred to as “Frau [von] Ribbentrop” in social networks because of her rather strange position on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and unhealthy sympathy for Putin. [This] trolling started in June at least.

… I understand why Poles are our first ally today. Our western neighbors remember how in 1939, Berlin and Moscow took long-suffering Poland to pieces. In 2014, history repeats itself in the case of Ukraine. Only now the roles have been divided–Berlin acts as inactive and passive participant of the bloody show. But the essence remains the same.

However, if Merkel is called “Frau [von] Ribbentrop” in Europe, then not all [Europeans] have forgotten the lessons of history. And that gives us hope.”

Oh Happy Damn Day! This would be WONDERFULLLLLLL!!!!!

The DLCC announced that it “released its Flip Chart 2014, which is a list of legislative chambers where Democrats have the greatest opportunity to cut into Republican majorities and potentially ‘flip’ the chambers to Democratic control.”

“Emerging Majorities notes legislative chambers where Democrats have the greatest opportunity to cut into Republican majorities and potentially “flip” the chambers to Democratic control,” the website says.

Under that, the Arizona Senate is listed. Republicans currently hold a 17-13 majority there.

“Chambers to Watch are where we believe strong Democratic gains are possible in 2014 and could position Democrats to compete for the majority in future cycles,” the DLCC website says. “These are also chambers where Democrats can reach constitutionally significant benchmarks in 2014.”

‘ Pillars of Peace Hawai‘i, an initiative of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation, will host three preeminent global leaders from The Elders from August 29-31. While in Honolulu, they will engage in a series of exchanges with the people of Hawai‘i on peace, compassion, and ethical leadership. The Pillars of Peace Hawaii program was established in part to inspire our community to cultivate empathy, mindfulness and justice in our daily lives and better understand the roles of diversity and culture in the practice of peace.
The Elders is an independent group of global leaders brought together by Nelson Mandela in 2007; they use their collective wisdom, experience, and influence to support peace building, address major causes of human suffering, and promote the shared interests of humanity. ‘

    Yea! She’s still kicking! http://margaretandhelen.com/2014/07/11/which-comes-first-the-chicken-or-the-vagina/

Margaret, I’m old and I’m tired. I thought I was ready to hang my quill up for good and then Rick Perry had to open his mouth again and let a whole lot of stupid fall out. When will that man realize that his brain is older and more tired than even mine?

Last month Perry compared being gay to being an alcoholic. This from a man who is so light in his loafers that his feet haven’t touched the ground since he got a C in Animal Breeding at Texas A&M University. Not that there is anything wrong with that, mind you — his being light in the loafers that is. His many C’s and D’s in college is a different story. Indeed a C in Animal Breeding is something to be concerned about.

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/whats-being-done-here-totally-inconsistent MUST READ AND PASS/TWEET/SEND BY PIGEON

To say that the Republican-led House is doing absolutely nothing isn’t entirely fair. The GOP majority isn’t just sitting around, waiting for time to elapse; it’s also approving tax breaks without paying for them.
The House voted Friday to make permanent a temporary tax break that makes it easier for businesses to invest in new equipment, one of many expired tax breaks that Congress must deal with by the end of the year.

The tax break allows businesses to more quickly write off the costs of new equipment, making it popular among business groups. But the White House has threatened a veto because the bill would add $287 billion to the budget deficit over the next decade.
Final vote was 258 to 160. The roll call is online here. (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2014/roll404.xml)

And how, pray tell, do GOP lawmakers intend to pay for this? That’s the amazing part – they don’t even bother to try. When Democrats want to invest in infrastructure and jobless benefits, Republicans insist every penny be offset, but when the issue is permanent tax breaks, money is no object.

      July 14, 2014 at 10:02 pm

      Bottom Line:

It’s a simple rule: if Democrats want to invest in the public, the deficit is paramount. When Republicans want to pass a tax break, the deficit is irrelevant.

Of course, the larger context makes the policy move look worse, at least for those paying attention. The Republicans who say $3.4 billion for the border crisis is too much are literally the same Republicans who have no problem approving tax breaks that cost 84 times as much money.

    Very, very sad story.
Republican Mayor, Adam O’Neil of North Carolina has been begging for Medicaid expansion to prevent closing of the hospital in Belhaven. He is now walking from NC to Washington; covering 17 miles today.

Hospital closed; 48 year old wife, and mother of 3 died, could have possibly been prevented if the hospital was open.

She complained of chest pain, stayed in back of the ambulance as they waited for helicopter. The helicopter arrived 1 hour later, she died when it arrived. Governor Dean said she probably would have lived, had she been able to get emergency care in the hospital. The Mayor and others are walking to Washington in hopes of seeing the President and the Attorney General because lives are at stake.

How sad, in America, a mother of 3 lose her life because man refuse to offer care for all.

Wake up America! Why are you putting these people in office?

    • July 14, 2014 at 10:23 pm

I just saw that sad report on Lawrence. The Mayor is marching to Washington to urge Dems and Republicans to do something. He would be more effective if he admitted is freaking party have failed the American people.

        Hi Jackie 4 Obama,
Hope you’re having a BEAUTIFUL Monday evening,

Yes indeed, it’s Repuke corruption. Did you notice, the mayor actually said that he believes part of this problem is racial. 25,000 people have no hospital to go to. This is beyond madness, in America, where we throw away billions on wasted food, cigarettes, cosmetics etc.

The people (big wheels as the Mayor called them) who are behind the closing, made and enormous profit, in excess of 100 million. This is devastating, a mother is gone because these people hate President Obama so much. 3 babies are left without their mother because of unadulterated hate for one man.

What will they say when they stand before their maker?

Couldn’t agree more – what on earth can the President and the Attorney General do when SCOTUS and the GOP have prevented the proper implementation of the ACA – they should be marching to the state house or the Governor’s residence

And the Governor suddenly wants medicaid – because – re-election. A pox on them all

        • July 14, 2014 at 11:24 pm

I believe this mayor joined with the moral Monday’s group although he is a republican. He needs to March to the Governor’s and state representatives who won’t extend Medicaid. There needs to be a class action lawsuit against the representatives for refusing Federal money purely for political reasons. When parent’s refuse to give medical attention to children they are sued way can’t politicians?

Good evening vcp, hope you had a WONDERFUL DAY!

I really wish that “we the people” would converge on Washington, not to bother President Obama, but to call this Congress out and hold them accountable for what they have done to the American people. They are collecting a paycheck to “do nothing” and that should be criminal.

The repuke legislature in NC should be charged with this mother’s death because they “refuse” to expand Medicaid and assisted in this closing.

If anyone should be sued, it’s this Congress, and as more lives are lost, they should be labeled for what they are – “MURDERERS.”

D.C.?!?!? His problem is the death panels of his own party, his heartless GOP legislature. this is NOT a Democratic-manufactured issue.

IT IS THE GOP, Mayor O’Neill.
