on beebs live commentary on limey-indies cricket match

Matt: Was supposed to be spending the day with the missus today. Her friend suddenly came into town and I gallantly said they should go out for lunch and I’ll get the house work done. Brownie points and cricket.

James: Currently in Vietnam with the missus, in order to watch the cricket I suggested a pre dinner nap as we “have had a long day” – she’s now snoring and I’m glued to the live text! Can’t believe it worked…

Thomas Fallon: I’m currently wandering around Legoland in Windsor with my wife and two kids. My wife thinks I’m being nice offering to watch the bags whilst she takes them on the rides.

Robin in Munich: (Re 12:05) – This Sunday afternoon I’m being forced by my German wife to get excited about this evening’s final so sulkily keeping tabs on the cricket whilst occasionally reminding her that it’s one of many proper sports that England play.

Folks complaining about missing a goal in a soccer match due to calls of nature – should watch a game of cricket. I have watched 4 hours of a game – sneezed and missed the best catch of the match.

GM Ms Chips – good to see you holding the door open for hopefruit this am πŸ™‚

πŸ™‚ I’m sure I mentioned this before 99ts (rusty brain alert): I was lucky enough to attend a day’s cricket in an Ashes test in Perth years ago. It was possibly the dullest day’s cricket in the history of the sport, the only exciting thing to happen was when an English batsman was knocked out by a bouncer …… but when it happened I was outside with my mate who wanted a cigarette. 😳

I remember the days before they built all the cement stands and banned anything happening inside the grounds. We used to head in with the esky (cold drink container – not sure if that is a US term) and pack of cigarettes and sit on the hill and tell the players what they should be doing!

Thus said, WACA was a great place for your “test” – sorry it was not so entertaining. Best match ever in my lifetime 1977 Centenary test in Melbourne. Last game before the millionaires decided to buy a few teams.

Hi amk. I never had one clue what was going on in cricket until I saw the Indian movie,”Lagaan”, some years ago. If someone had told me that I would be riveted by a cricket game I would have laughed out loud, but that movie had me cheering and praying for the underdog. Great movie!!!

Oli in Sussex: Never a bad time to follow the cricket. At a funeral last year and the priest not only informed me he was sorry to hear of the loss of a relative but also he was sorry to hear England were 6 down.

Good morning all. We seem to have entered the monsoon season in this part of PA. We’ve had rain just about every day for the last week and it’s projected for the foreseeable future, along with considerable flooding. If there were ever a way that we could pipeline water to western drought areas, the SE portion of PA alone could create a western garden state.

    • July 13, 2014 at 9:13 am

      No visible fireflies then?

Isn’t their dance a mating dance?

How will they find one another (LOL).

Someone in State College PA said the fireflies were quite active after 9 pm on the 4th. Makes sense that you’d only see them once it got dark.

Arapaho, my husband likes to go out on our deck late at night and he says the fireflies are still at it in the meadow behind our house. They won’t be around for long, though. They do seem to enjoy the 4th each year. Maybe the fireworks stimulate them, but they seem to jump around all over the grass on that night.

noticed the author typed “democrat party” instead of the correct usage of democratic party. since that’s a republican tactic, it makes me suspect of this writer, or at least the editor since it’s possible it was changed after the writer submitted it.

whatever the case, yes, really happy o’malley seems like he’s going to go for it, and more importantly, he’s actively out there for the midterms coming up in a few short months. just like elizabeth warren, who i’m still hoping goes for president too after the midterms are over. o’malley and warren would be two great representatives for the democratic party and torch-carriers of the obama revolution. forward!!!

if this iran deal really happens, which it sure seems like it is, then it’ll be important for us to make sure we educate as many people as possible in our lives about how significant this is.

we know “the news” and republican/libertarians will have coordinated messaging to downplay it or even turn it into a negative thing, so it’ll be up to us to remind people that just a few years ago the republican presidential candidate joked “bomb, bomb, iran” using a Beach Boys song, and many republicans are still pushing for military action against iran to this day. many of israel’s leaders have been scaremongering about iran even now, and for years have been pushing for military action against iran.

we were amazed recently when president obama had a phone call with iran’s leadership, since that hadn’t happened in several decades, and already there could be this deal in place?!? notice how “the news” has successfully kept the majority of general public from knowing anything about that now. chuck toad is probably working on his false talking points right now, or at least getting the memo for what the focus-group tested talking points should be to diminish yet another major, MAJOR foreign policy success of president Obama. the amount of death and destruction our president has avoided in the world, as he’s stood up the war-profiteering liars every step of the way on issue after issue, is breath-taking. he’s completely changed the entire world’s trajectory after many decades of domination from the military-industrial-complex that president eisenhower spoke about. we have GOT to win these midterms!

Going to watch the World Cup final with my daughter in Portland’s “living room” – Pioneer Square – which can hold about 7,000 people. It was great fun in 2010. Go Argentina!

    • July 13, 2014 at 10:28 am

I can’t decide who I’m up for Judith! As I said to Japa yesterday, I much prefer Germany as a team, but really want Messi to win the World Cup. Grrr, decisions!

“The court may be asked again to rule on gay marriage and the legality of broader provisions of the ACA, and questions of economic and political equality cannot be far behind. The narrowly divided Supreme Court will be facing momentous issues on which American society is undergoing historic change.

The riddle of what side of history the court will land on remains unanswered”

    Interesting read…

the ebb and flow of the SCOTUS….

are Terms Limits for the Justices…something that would be beneficial…and if so…for how long…considering the impact that SCOTUS decisions have on America

My latest installment in the long-running story,”What does propaganda look like?”

Todays entry is title on front page of the NY Times which says “GOP Replays 2010 at state level.” Content is a chart of likely wins in State Governor races.

I call it propaganda because if you look at the data not the headline you will see that a more accurate headline is “Democrats Win Back at Least a Half dozen Governors Seats.”
Sub-title, “How many people in the states the Dems take back will now be eligible for the Medicaid Expansion?”

And jackieg—-yes, Corbett is at the top of everyones list, followed by Rick Scott Paul LePage and so on.

Rohin: To Richard at Lister Hospital (14:03) I’m on call at Lister today, checking the score between patients (don’t worry I’m not an obstetrician). When your baby is out, come down to the doctors’ mess for the footie. I’m sure your wife won’t mind.

Nigel in Cheshire: In reply to Richard in Hitchin, my wife’s labour was induced two weeks ago and it took three days for the little guy to arrive. I’d suggest buying a radio for the hospital!
