    Thanks, NW, for bringing on the laughter for the evening! Had a dull day (my fault) and just perked up (which I’m sure is your goal in life – to perk me up, eh?). ๐Ÿ™‚

      My heart breaks for Gaza.

      Israel is a RW wet dream. Forget about the religious explanations about the GOP love affair with Israel, those are the cover story. The truth is a theocratic state aligned with the military to keep an iron grip on the entire populace.

      Double motorcycles where the armoured police ride back to back, heavily armed. (Two Iron Men with Assault rifles doing high-speed patrolling of the streets.)
      Every restaurant in Jerusalem that I went to had a guard at the door and I was required to open my handbag before entering.
      Too depressing to comment on the reality of Israel any further.

      We need to understand that this is what the warmongerers and RW wants America to become. Their vision of what happens when real Americans take their country back.

    Tonight’s menu:

    Dry rubbed flat iron steak, grilled over mesquite
    Oven roasted zucchini
    Baked potato

    And now, off to have some wine while I grill. Stay frosty everyone. Greet tweets, NW.

    Hello TOD.

    Congrats to all the Gold ๐Ÿ˜‰ Cup Winners at TOD….starting with this Thread and 5/6 deep. You all have been busy.
    So appreciative and proud of our Cindy for caring for her neighbor and a fellow human being. I wish your neighbor well and I sincerely hope that he no good husband is prosecuted.

    So conflicted for the game today. I was for Arg as I have stated here many times. Then after a guy was knocked out senselessly, I became very critical of Arg and started wishing for the Germans to win. They won and the I became sad for Arg. I became a human WC Yoyo. I am glad this 2014 WC is finally over.

    My hubby just got a call to start volunteering for the Bruce Braley for Senate campaign on Sunday afternoons. Mr. MuscatineGal is willing to go outside his comfort zone and campaign door-to-door or whatever is needed to beat Phony Joni, so wish him luck. I know a lot of you are already seasoned campaigners – do you have any advice on dealing with problem people or any amazing experiences to share?

    • July 13, 2014 at 9:04 pm

      “… on dealing with problem people …” – stick with the facts and always be polite. You’ll be surprised how effective that can be. Please thank him for #GOTV. It’s absolutely essential.

      Congrats on your husband volunteering. We believe in saying “thank you & remember to exercise your right to vote” when we encounter people who don’t support our candidate. Then you leave the feelings behind and move on to the next person. Be sure to have the Facts in hand out format and know where the person stands on important issues.

      It can be quite rewarding! FORWARD!

      My husband went today to start calling for the Democratic party here in MT. The most important thing is to be polite and not argue and keep stating facts. The most important thing is he is doing this, we need everyone working for this November. Thank him for all of us.

    Bill Kristol and Anna Navaro(sp) both were on This Week and said, per Mediaite, that No Relevant GOPer is for impeachment. Suing POTUS is okay with the? They think that there is a difference? It was their endless investigations that led to the House GOP’s impeachment of Clinton in 1998.

    Please, proceed GOPers.

    This World Cup void now that it’s over is just preparation for what it will be like when PBO & FLOTUS take off in that helicopter on Jan 20, 2017.

    Good practice for when that time comes! I’m just trying to help here.

    I do not know if you saw this comment on the previous blog post because I wrote it much later after yours;

    sorry to hear about your experience with domestic violence earlier today – I had missed the comments the first and I had to go back and read your account;

    thanks a lot for helping out your neighbor, Ms Ana;

    I don’t know if your shock and pain on her behalf has subsided enough for you to consider these other two issues:

    (a) If the abused young lady decides to press charges on her husband, will you choose testify about what you know?
    no pressure but if you choose to do so then this may give her strength to face him in court and get the justice she is due. it may also help you to deal with the feelings of “what if” that you expressed earlier;

    (b) You also mentioned that Ms Ana is from Brazil and that most of your neighbors are immigrants (fear of contact with the police could explain why they were not so eager to intervene)

    it is possible that one reason that the young lady did not file charges is because of their current immigration status.

    If you get a chance to speak to her, please let her know that recent modifications in immigration law have a special provision to protect victims of domestic abuse.

    these modifications in law were made because immigrant victims were scared to report abuse from spouses – especially in those cases where they undocumented or the abuser still believed in home-country cultural norms that regarded women as “the property” of the husband;

    Under the current immigration law, proof that you’ve been the victim of domestic abuse while on US soil will automatically make you qualify for special resources up to and including: legal representation, housing, economic support etc and even including a chance to modify your immigration status. resources would be provided to enable the victim to start over independent of her/his abuser

    please advise her to seek help from a qualified immigrant rights professional;

    I also know that under this modification in law, an immigrant spouse who commits domestic abuse will most likely serve time in the slammer, lose his/her status and be promptly deported

    Iraq’s parliament has postponed its meeting until July 15 after ending a session that lasted just 30 minutes, with lawmakers still deadlocked over electing a new leadership.

    Acting parliament speaker Mahdi al-Hafidh ended the brief meeting on July 13 “due to the absence of any agreement on the names of the nominees for the three posts.”

    The legislature is under pressure to quickly choose a new speaker of parliament, president, and prime minister — the first steps toward forming a new government that Iraqis hope can confront a Sunni militant offensive.

    Again. Perhaps John McCain should be notified? Hey US media drumming for US intervention in Iraq just many days ago…..What say YOU fools?
