Valerie Bauman: Federal Money Adds 24 New Medical Residencies In Washington State’s Most Doctor-Starved Regions

As of this year, 24 new primary care residency spots will have been created in Washington through a five-year federal program dedicated to getting doctors to regions that need it most. The latest influx of federal money is $6.3 million, reported earlier this week, more than the combined $2.55 million that the program provided for Washington residencies between 2011-2013. Each new residency position is the equivalent of a three-year, guaranteed residency spot for one new doctor. It’s never been more important for Washington to grow its pipeline of new doctors, particularly in underserved urban and rural areas. The state’s projected doctor shortage has Washington State University considering opening its own medical school in Spokane.

It is unique because it partners medical residents with community health clinics that typically work with low-income or underserved populations. It benefits the resident by giving a new doctor real world experience, and helps communities by getting more doctors where they are needed most. The program was created in 2010 as part of the Affordable Care Act, and brought the first round of new residency spots to Washington in 2011. Initially, Yakima and Ellensburg received the funding for residents, but as more money has come in through the program, it’s been expanded to Tacoma, Spokane and to the Puyallup Tribal Health Authority.

U.S. Seen as Biggest Oil Producer After Overtaking Saudi Arabia
The U.S. will remain the world’s biggest oil producer this year after overtaking Saudi Arabia and Russia as extraction of energy from shale rock spurs the nation’s economic recovery, Bank of America Corp. said.

U.S. production of crude oil, along with liquids separated from natural gas, surpassed all other countries this year with daily output exceeding 11 million barrels in the first quarter, the bank said in a report today. The country became the world’s largest natural gas producer in 2010. The International Energy Agency said in June that the U.S. was the biggest producer of oil and natural gas liquids.

Nerdy, when the history of ACA is written, I hope that you will be remembered as one of the fierce, relentless warriors who helped make it a success. You’ve brought it home here– time and time again– that this is one of the truly great and lasting legacies of the Obama administration. When I hear people say they don’t understand, don’t know enough about, or “don’t get” the impact of ObamaCare, I always tell them that this is the place where it all becomes clear. Thank you for never, never giving up.

So, to recap: Brazil has had 10 goals scored on it in the past two games. O jogo bonito will take a while to recover in the land of the samba.

It’s true what they say about Michelle Obama. She has amazing arms. I saw this up close when she unfurled her bare right limb in front of me Thursday night, while the two of us were doing tapas at the jumping Barcelona on 14th Street NW.

Clearly the first lady works out, clearly she moisturizes and clearly L’Oréal should hire her as its pitchwoman after she leaves 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. “Ma’am, you rock,” I wanted to tell her, even though I was seated a table away from her party of eight, which included White House chef Sam Kass, and was separated by a table occupied by two Secret Service agents. (They ate, too, but didn’t drink anything stronger than soda.)…

…My first instinct was to tweet the sighting — #TheSheBearIsLoose. My second impulse was to give the first lady, who enjoyed wine and dessert during dinner, her privacy. As it should, my news sense prevailed. I had a third thought, too: Draped across a companion’s chair, Michelle Obama’s arm was the best review Solidcore — the workout studio that the first lady reportedly frequents — could ever hope for.

Was Brazil in some sort of a Trance? 10 goals in 4 days? I feel for the players. The 23 squad members were selected by someone from what…800….or so of their many National Teams and some how in a nation of 201M and a Host of the FIFA World Cup……This is their best? Wow, I was sad for them.

The heart breaker will be Argentina winning tomorrow. I have said this for a while now, I want Argentina to win tomorrow. Sorry my Brazilian Friends.

    What?

I remember Fox went nuts after the 2008 Nov elections…… for one Voting Center in PA, there were 2 members of the New Black Panther…..they were standing outside the building. Fox used that pretentious visual to get MSM to buy in to Voter Fraud and intimidation. This helped to drive all these Voter Suppression laws when currently have in the books in at least 24 states now controlled by the GOP.

    Now this?

    sam wang:

‘ Greetings, everyone. This is for hardcore readers. I’m going to dispense with bells and whistles. We’re building things, so I’m not very chatty! I just thought I’d show you where things are at. Bottom line, Democrats have a 55% chance of control in an election held today. That is as close to a toss-up as it gets. The median result is 50 D/I seats, 50 R seats. ‘

he continues with details, and a view to his coverage from now till the election. even if you don’t trust polls, sam’s have been excellent predictors, and right now can show where to focus.

If you have money to donate, concentrate on Begich in Alaska, Grimes in Kentucky, Braley in Iowa, Udall in Colorado, Nunn in Georgia, Pryor in Arkansas, and Landrieu in Louisiana. Sam doesn’t seem to think John Walsh has much chance in Montana of keeping that seat in Dem hands, but I’m giving him a bit here and there anyway. It boggles my mind that any voter not of the 1% would want to positively reinforce McConnell’s/GOP Caucus’ scorched earth obstruction.
