For what it is worth, i think this guy’s concern is not exagerrated. The notices to gazans living close to the border to evacuate is the same play Israel has made before. The people evacuate—to where exactly? where is it safe? I don’t know—-then the israeli tanks roll in and flatten everything in their path.

Multiple sources on the internet are carrying this story.

Netanyahu is a hardline neocon, the opposite of President Obama.

My stomach turned when those doomed Israeli students were found. Just what the Middle East doesn’t need — more blood to add fuel to hardliners on both sides.

On a brighter note, about a decade ago I flew from Los Angeles to Seattle about once a month for work (Burbank to SeaTac). I’m a small person and love the window seat — on the inland side — typically it was clear over California and Washington, but Oregon was cloudy.

The best plane trip in the world.

You fly over the Sierra Nevadas, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, the Cascades and the view circling from Gig Harbor around the Space Needle to SeaTac is breathtaking.

I flew Alaska Air, and during the summer months, the pilots usually announced when we flew over points of interest (such as Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Mt. St. Helens) for the family tourists.

I loved staying in downtown Seattle and walking everywhere. Didn’t encounter very much rain on my trips, but did see snow.

When I got back to the LA area after 9 days of Seattle, my first reaction driving to work on the freeway was “Why is everyone driving so fast?” LOL.

…..Ammar and his comrades said they never had any illusions about the virtue of their officer corps. Iraqi soldiers could often avoid showing up for duty by giving half their salaries to their commanders, who in turn paid off the generals. Even before Mosul fell, this cycle of bribery and absenteeism had deprived the military of almost one-third of the 1 million troops receiving paychecks, according to Knights. Still, Ammar said what happened after the June 23 battle shocked him. At sunset, a minibus was ushered through a refinery gate. His commanding officers — including a brigadier general, a colonel, and a lieutenant, he said — quickly began boarding.

“I said, ‘Where are you going?’ ” Ammar said. “And they told me, ‘We reached a deal with the tribes. You can leave safely now, but if you stay, you’ll be killed.’ ” Tribal leaders in the area had recently banded together into an organization called the Military Council for Revolutionary Tribes. A leader of the Baiji tribal council, who calls himself Maj. Khalid al-Iraqi, confirmed that the group had acted as a mediator between the militants and the soldiers at the refinery.

As they were leaving, Ammar’s officers told him the military council had promised to provide safe passage out of Baiji for 24 hours. “We only found out because we stopped their car,” Ammar said…..

Despite thunderous claims from lawmakers that the five Taliban prisoners released for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in May represented the “hardest of the hard core” — members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff hold a markedly different view of the threat posed by the former detainees.
On Thursday, Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) released seven separate letters from the members of the nation’s senior military leadership explaining their supportive opinions on the concessions the United States made to free Bergdahl, who had been held prisoner by the Haqqani network since 2009. Their reasons varied, but overall the responses fell into five basic categories, which we’ve condensed below…..continued

We mustn’t forget that the majority of Americans claim to worship a child who fled his home country because of violence who taught that what we do to “the least of these” we do to him. Convenient mass amnesia about one’s chosen faith and values. Pope Francis went to the island of Lampedusa and kissed the feet of the African refugees there. How many good Catholics or other stripes of Christian do you see kissing the feet of the poor children who are trying to escape the violence of the drug wars?

There have been calls from all quarters for President Obama to deploy the National Guard and send troops to assist the Border Patrol and to help plug up the holes. Speaker of the House John Boehner sent a letter to the White House on June 20th and just this Wednesday, Texas Governor Rick Perry told Sean Hannity that he had said this to Mr. Obama earlier in the day: “… Mr. President, you can deal with this. You can unilaterally direct the Department of Defense to put those troops on the border.”

Not so, Governor – the president may only deploy National Guard troops in federal missions, by design, but never unilaterally within the U.S. borders, by design. It is actually Gov. Perry who may deploy the Texas troops of the National Guard within his state whenever there is local or statewide emergency, such as this invasion. The same holds for every governor of the southern Border States–each may call their National Guard troops into action and provide the manpower and support necessary to the Border Patrol to secure those States and our nation from further distress.

Please don’t trouble Rick Perry or any Republican with laws or facts or rights. They really don’t care about any of it.

“Flying by the seat of their pants” comes to mind.

      • July 12, 2014 at 10:37 pm

But apparently the MSM/Koch have determined that it’s not necessary to point out this inconvenient fact, because “both sides do [insert whatever the lie of the day/week/month is].”

I’ve only seen the National Guard in Northridge CA on Jan 18, 1994, the day after the Northridge earthquake and I was called in to work.

Personally I found it quite unsettling to see armed men in camouflage and tanks in parking lots, it felt like a police state on my way to work.

The company I worked for was in Northridge, and we operated out of an “emergency trailer” (one of the disaster preparedness plans that the company had in place) and tents in the parking lot.

No building was fit for human occupancy (the building I worked in had 80% of its windows blown out), and let me tell you the aftershocks felt especially scary in that tin can trailer.

That’s not nice. Who has a extra room for Zimmerman, maybe a job, maybe a few extra dollars. Do I see any hands being raised? Maybe that juror who spoke so nicely of Zimmerman, who called him George, who never had any question that he was innocent. The juror who had her book deal all set up, maybe she will help her George.

He is learning now, he took a life, but his will be a long, slow life lived in fear and torment. How can a person kill another with no apparent sense of remorse and sleep at night?

    • July 12, 2014 at 9:58 pm

However, on a reality bite, if he had been rightfully convicted, he could be sleeping in a cozy tax-payer funded bed each night, three meals a day and access to the Internet via prison computers. He might actually think he had it made. Just a thought.

Wonderful news from Afghanistan; SOS John Kerry has inexpectedly and successfully brokered a deal between the contenders to succeed President Karzai!!!!!
Karzai and the two potential presidents stood smiling with Kerry at a Press Conference. There will be a full recount monitored by NATO. Both candidates have pledged unity no matter which of them wins.

Because this is Undeniably Good News for the Obama Administration i don’t expect much US coverage.

First read this poem in its normal fashion…then read it backwards. A viral 2011 poem about cynicism and optimism. Read to the end, then read in reverse starting from “There is hope” and continuing upward.
