Republican Argument for Suing Obama Goes Down In Flames As Fact Checkers Expose the Lies

I love seeing this. When we lived in Boulder Colorado we owned a pool hall with a lunch counter in downtown Denver. This was in the 70’s. My husband was the pool god and I cooked. I loved it. So many stories go with this, but I had a serious car accident and we lost it.

Love to see the President having some fun. Very busy day so haven’t caught up on the posts. But I am so tired of hearing the Repubs telling the President what he needs to do to avoid his Katrina. I trust this President. Thank you Chips and Nerdy Wonka for keeping us so informed.

While Republicans say the influx of undocumented children from Central America is a pressing issue that requires immediate attention from the president, they aren’t willing to approve funding to address it.

The president “is asking to use billions of taxpayer dollars without accountability or a plan in place to actually stop the border crisis,” Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said in a statement.

Asked if he thought lawmakers would approve the proposal, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said, “No, given the mood here in Washington, I don’t have confidence it will happen.”

The president’s $3.7 billion request (a drop in the federal bucket) would, among other things, fund additional processing facilities and the personnel needed to run them as well as hire additional judges and lawyers to manage the legal necessities and ramifications of deportation.

The president’s proposal demonstrates that he is serious about tackling the issue in a prudent manner, but Republicans have other ideas.

Why Republicans need to become obsolete.

Delurking to post this excellent article. For those who tweet please consider using this article (New Republic) to mock Andrea Mitchell. Chuck Todd and various other fools now criticizing ‘the optics’ of the President playing pool. This article clearly shows the difference between moronic ‘feed the beast’ cable hot air and decent analysis of the current border situation.

cluny, thanks for bringing this article to TOD.
“Above all, though, there is the failure to consider even the most basic differences in context between the crisis in New Orleans and the Gulf coast in 2005 and what has been unfolding on the border. In the former instance, we were presented with an administration that willfully downplayed both the immediate threat of the approaching storm and the broader threat that, if the climatologists are to be believed, was represented by the storm.

In the latter instance, we are presented with an administration struggling to contain one particularly dramatic manifestation of a problem—a broken immigration policy—that the administration itself has been trying to fix, has indeed made its chief priority for the remainder of the president’s term, but has been stymied in comprehensively addressing by the identity crisis–driven obstructionism and indifference of the party that controls the House of Representatives. Other than that, yes, this is just like Hurricane Katrina. And the women and children lingering on the border, and the overwhelmed Border Patrol personnel trying their best to manage their presence, will be awaiting the magic word of whether the president’s caravan will be arriving on the horizon, which will surely solve everything.”

      Excellent piece!

This kind of programming on msnbc makes me furious. Joy Reid’s whole program so far has been airing Obama critics on the border hullabaloo—-first the usual critics and now the full speeches of McCain and Cornyn on the senate floor, now Jeff Flake chiming in. Who in the H does msnbc think are watching their channel. All the Obama haters who would just love this programming are watching FOX and are not straying. Obama supporters would tend to watch msnbc, if anything. I don’t understand this—-at all—–it’s just dumb. Idiotic. We have enuf of the garbage everywhere else. On every channel.
Up late last night I wanted to see how the Mideast was doing and some disgusting guy on Al Ajazeera was calling PBO responsible for the entire tragedy in Israel and Gaza and The West Bank. Yes it was POTUS who kidnapped and killed both the three Israeli teens and burned to death the Palestinian youth.
The charge was that by not leading the entire world to peace this very second President Obama is the cause of the mayhem. The young peoples deaths were on him

This is beyond crazy and way into Evil.

The effort gets clearer every day.
As the President detailed in his speech, The Media’s job is to depress sane people so much that they don’t vote.
The GOP uses fear and racial hate to get their nutjobs to the polls.

Democrats are deprived of a media platform. ALWAYS got LESS time. (GOP Sunday mornings)
Now the idea is to give us NO time.

Take solace in the fact that everyday more and more people are waking up to truth of what you stated. The best way to combat the GOP’s propaganda apparatus is to spread the word about what our media has devolved into. Without the media, the GOP will lose one of its greatest weapons. If we can discredit the msm by exposing the game being played, the ability of the GOP to convince people to vote against their own interests will be greatly diminished. A party that only looks out for the interests of 1-2% of the population cannot maintain power in a democracy without 1) control of the media to spread propaganda and 2) a populace who willing accepts the propaganda as truth. We cannot strip the GOP of its control of the media, but we can educate people about the role the msm plays in spreading pro-GOP propaganda.

Lawrence O. joined in the circus last night on his show.

      If he goes to the border, then the pictures of George B. “real” Katrina moment will be placed next to a picture of President Obama at the border with the news headlines;

“Bush and Obama Looks on and They Did Nothing”

This is political in the worse way because they (repukes and MSM) only want to tie President Obama to Bush and his airplane moment. Congress repukes and some Dems can go to the border.

The hoopla is that the President brought this on himself because he is in Texas worried about fund raisers instead of the “crises.” You can’t even watch the local news here because it is dominated by the repukes talking points; the President created this, the President will not go to the border blah…blah….blah….. you know, that Charlie Brown moment when Lucy is talking and the horn is sounding.

      I envision President Obama saying;

      “I GOT THIS!”

      • 85 EricFive
        July 9, 2014 at 3:31 pm

Same reason every other fake scandal involving a Dem President has a “gate” added to it (a la Watergate). What Katrina and Watergate have in common are they happened to a GOP president, so the media to feed the “both sides do it” nonsense will struggle to fit anything a Dem president does into one of these two boxes (to convince public that Dem Presidents are as incompetent and corrupt as GOP Presidents, even though reality does not bear this out). This is also why the GOP is so fixated in forcing a Dem president from office via impeachment (payback for Nixon). As the assault on voting rights and women’s reproductive rights clearly illustrates, the GOP never gives up a cause or forgets a slight. Many in the GOP are still pissed at FDR for Social Security. Since the MSM is the communications arm of the GOP, we are to be forever bombarded with Watergate and Katrina (and to a lesser extent Iraq War) comparisons whenever we dare to elect a Dem President.

We should all inundate their twitter, e-mails, phones and mail delivery with pictures of the “real” Katrina.

Those images of how people suffered and died will be ingrained in my mind and heart forever.

Apparently they don’t remember what happened in that storm called Katrina.

They only want to bring President Obama down to George B. level of incompetency; decisions that he made that cost human lives.

They are itching for a picture of President Obama at the borders so that they can place it next to George B. airplane moment when he was doing nothing for the people of New Orleans and surrounding areas after Katrina.

I pray that President Obama “will not make their day.” Let Congress go, they aren’t working anyway, they have nothing but time.

Rep Gohmert is a former Judge. He has been representing TX for over 7 yrs now……elected in Nov 2004, 1st sworn in Jan 2005.

TX is today a Minority majority state. 38% are Hispanics, 14% Black and 3-5% Asians, American Indians, etc. So in this fools twisted mind, president Obama is doing what exactly to make TX Blue? TX can be blue this Nov if those who are Dems come out and vote. They could have since 2002……when only 22% of those eligible to vote went to the polls.

Both candidates in the Indonesia presidential election have claimed victory based on unofficial results.

Jakarta governor Joko Widodo told a news conference shortly after polls closed that “at the time being” early vote counts showed he was the winner.

An hour later, former army general Prabowo Subianto said estimates showed he had “received the support and mandate from the people of Indonesia”.

The official tally is expected to be announced on 21-22 July.

As a few of us were saying…

After the loss, many Brazilians were strongly questioning whether holding the event was worth it, a bad omen for President Dilma Rousseff. She is campaigning for a re-election bid in October that many think could be made tougher by the soccer team’s poor showing.

“Like many Brazilians, I’m very, very sad because of this defeat,” Rousseff said as she took to Twitter to try to rally the nation. “I feel bad for all of us — for fans and for our players. But let’s not be broken. Brazil, ‘get up, shake off the dust and come out on top.’ ”

Although few thought Brazil’s humiliating loss would spark renewed mass protests, it is sure to put a severely sour taste back into the mouths of the nation’s fans.

“I hope this can make people wake up and start thinking with their heads and not their emotions and that people translate the anger they are feeling at the ballot boxes,” said Antonio Hipolito, who works at a bookstore in a wealthy part of Rio but lives in a distant, hardscrabble neighborhood.

“Soccer is just an illusion and we need to wake up to reality,” he said.

Diss PBO, watch your illusions fall to ash.

The entire senior management team of the Vatican bank is to be replaced as part of extensive reforms of the Catholic Church’s central government.

Pope Francis has sought to stamp out corruption and other abuses at the bank, which handles the Church’s funds.

French financier Jean-Baptiste de Franssu will take over as head of the bank from Ernst von Freyberg.

The bank will also eventually give up its investment activities to focus on serving religious orders and charities.

“But perhaps more important in this regard are three other data points reported in the Russian media over the last two days. First, polls show that large shares of Russians do not want to fight in Ukraine and are not prepared to boycott Ukrainian goods to bring Kyiv to heel.

Second, divisions about Ukraine are beginning to appear in the political elite. Mikhail Kasyanov, who served as Putin’s prime minister between 2000 and 2004 but later broke with him, says that Kyiv will never agree to recognize the pro-Moscow separatists as “a legitimate side in any negotiations,” something Putin has been seeking.

And third, anger about Moscow’s spending on the occupation of Ukraine’s Crimea is now spilling into the streets of some Russian cities. In Novosibirsk today, there was a demonstration scheduled against spending money that protesters say should go to Russians at home.”
