WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) said today that he plans to sue President Obama for violating the United States Constitution with what Boehner called “his outrageous practice of accomplishing things.”

“The United States Constitution guarantees the American people that its government will be free from activity,” Boehner told reporters. “Again and again, President Obama has broken that sacred trust.”

Ripping the President for his “willful insistence on doing things,” Speaker Boehner said that his lawsuit was intended “to restore the inaction and inertia that have been the hallmarks of our democracy.”

The Speaker acknowledged that suing the President was an extreme measure, but added, “I take this step only after exhausting every other method to prevent him from getting anything done.”

Concluding his remarks, Boehner said that he hoped his lawsuit would send a “powerful message” to President Obama: “If you stubbornly continue to take actions that result in tangible outcomes, you will be very, very sorry.”

Question? Why didn’t democrats go after Bush and try to get him impeached?
    He deserved it. No?

    • June 28, 2014 at 10:31 pm

Because going after Bush would have done what going after PBO is doing: energized the base. Speaker Pelosi was smart. Speaker Boehner is an idiot.

Because Nancy Pelosi wanted to and needed to keep Dems in both houses. To put the country through impeachment with the GOP media wing, Fox So-Called-News would have only bashed the Democrats and maybe lost the both houses. Remember we were still at war and Bush had plans to pawn it off on the next Prez.

Here is what most people don’t understand about impeachment. Impeaching and removing the President from office is a two step undertaking. The easy step is for the House of Representatives to vote to impeach the President. All you need is the majority of members of the House, 218 votes out 435, to accomplish this. The more difficult step occurs in the United States Senate. There, the President has to be tried and convicted and then removed from office. This requires the votes of 2/3 of the members of the Senate- that is 67 senators out of 100. In the 225 years of U.S. government, only two presidents have been impeached by the House of Representatives: Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Both were acquitted by the Senate (conviction couldn’t garner 2/3 of the members) and finished their terms. That’s because both impeachment were politically motivated. The third President who was nearly impeached, but resigned before the House of Rep.voted for the Articles of impeachment, was Richard Nixon. Nixon resigned because Republicans in the Senate, led by Barry Goldwater, urged him to. They felt that there were no votes in the Senate to save him a greater humiliation of being impeached and convicted by the Senate. In other words, 2/3 of the U.S. Senators, including many Republicans were ready to vote to remove Nixon from office. In Nixon’s case the crimes committed were real and not politically manufactured.

Nancy Pelosi knew that it was a waste time to try to impeach Bush because there were no 67 votes in the Senate to remove him from office. I am sure Boehner knows that too. No matter how deluded right wingers are who want to impeach President Obama, there are no 67 votes in the Senate to convict and remove him from office. To appease these insane people Boehner has chosen the equally idiotic stunt of suing the President. Sadly, Boehner may find right wing judges and Supreme Court Justices who hate President Obama and are ready and willing to indulge him.
