The president announced a plan to open the doors of more than 700 federal labs across the country to give innovators access to more than $5 billion in equipment, research and resources to develop new technologies. Additionally, he outlined a $150 million investment in research to support the Materials Genome Investment, a public-private endeavor that aims to reduce the time it takes to develop new materials that can be used in advanced manufacturing

James O’Toole: President Obama Speaks In Pittsburgh About Technology

On a stop at Bakery Square’s TechShop in Larimer this afternoon, President Barack Obama announced a plan to give fledgling businesses expanded access to high-tech resources whether from the government or through wider sharing of private and university-based data and facilities. Administration officials said the access to expensive equipment and facilities is designed to lower the barriers to innovation. The president announced the initiative after a tour of TechShop, a membership-based manufacturing workshop that’s a model for the kind of sharing of resources he wants to promote. Coming the day after Mr. Obama announced an executive order to ban discrimination against members of the LGBT community in federal contracting, the innovation order was one more example of the administration’s efforts to pursue policy initiatives that don’t depend on action by Congress.

During his visit, the president also described new manufacturing investment commitments from 90 mayors cross the country, as well as a plan to provide private-sector innovators with access to expensive federal equipment such as wind tunnels at NASA and supercomputers at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The plan would provide access to more than $5 billion worth of research, prototyping and testing equipment at more than 700 federal facilities. The president’s plan aims to give innovators – dubbed “makers” by the White House — access to equipment that no individual or small business could afford on its own, said Jeff Zients, director of the National Economic Council. “[We are] talking about using spare capacity when it’s available to give access to local makers and entrepreneurs,” he said. Mr. Zients said the president’s plan does not require legislative approval and has no cost to the federal government.

Captured Alleged Benghazi Ringleader Was Reportedly Responding To The Anti-Islam Video

// An alleged ringleader of the September 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, who is now in U.S. custody, reportedly told other Libyans during the attack that he was responding to an anti-Islam video that had been published on YouTube, demolishing a prominent right-wing media attack.

Conservatives in the media have fixated on Obama administration statements shortly after the attacks suggesting that the video had been a motive for the attackers. Conservatives have alleged that these statements were part of a deliberate effort to deceive the American people about the cause of the terror attacks in order to bolster President Obama’s re-election campaign.

Ahmed Abu Khattala was captured Sunday by U.S. military and law enforcement in response to an indictment for murder in connection with his role as a suspected ringleader of the Benghazi attacks. Abu Khattala told Libyans the night of the attack “that he was moved to attack the diplomatic mission to take revenge for an insult to Islam in an American-made online video,” according to The New York Times. //

GE TOD: Great post NW…….congrats on 1rst, Bob!

Interesting…..part of a precondition by President Obama before even thinking about helping in Iraq:

(Reuters) – Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki broadcast a joint appeal for national unity on Tuesday with bitter Sunni critics of his Shi’ite-led government – a move that may help him win U.S. help against rampant Islamists threatening Baghdad. Just hours after Maliki’s Shi’ite allies had angrily vowed to boycott any cooperation with the biggest Sunni party and his government had accused Sunni neighbor Saudi Arabia of backing “genocide”, the premier’s visibly uncomfortable televised appearance may reflect U.S. impatience with its Baghdad protege.

In a rerun of previous failed efforts at bridging sectarian and ethnic divisions, Shi’ite, Sunni and Kurdish leaders met behind closed doors and then stood frostily before cameras as Maliki’s Shi’ite predecessor Ibrahim al-Jaafari read a statement denouncing “terrorist powers” and supporting Iraqi sovereignty.

U.S. President Barack Obama is considering military options to push back al Qaeda splinter group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), which has swept the Sunni north of the country over the past week as the Shi’ite-led army has crumbled. But in return Washington want Maliki to do more to address the widespread sense of political exclusion among minority Sunnis which ISIL has exploited to win support among tribal leaders and former followers of ousted dictator Saddam Hussein……………

          June 17, 2014 at 8:27 pm

Hillary should very cautiously stick to her book; and pass on the comments about PBO. She does not realize the lessons she should have learned from her campaign with then Sen. Barack Obama; and it seems as though she is slipping on recognizing that he is Still the President of the United States of America. Then she should also realize that everyone in President Barack Obama’s Camp still do not have an appetite for her style of serving up a breakfast, a brunch/lunch or dinner/supper.

She has a very dear friend in PBO, but he is not a foolish man. He knows both sides of the coin and he will be the first to be able to describe both sides for Anyone just as fast as he slapped the hell out of that fly buzzing around his head while he was doing that interview in the WH with reporter, John Harwood.

HRC needs what PBO has: US., the hard working loyal people who know what we want and what we need. I do not dislike HRC, but I do not like people trying to come off as sly with their remarks. We need HRC and the entire party to think about 2014 and its long term consequences ; and we can and will work as hard as we did for PBO, if the candidate deserves our hard work. Plain and simple from this little senior. My opinion.HZ

Kasai, your disappointed feelings by me are well taken. I have been in the same position when listening to some of our former Sec. of State. For one who represented this administration to almost every corner of the world, surely there should be No tepid responses. My personal opinion about those who are asked a question about this president. He should at least be given the same respect and loyalty that he gives to them. I find otherwise, it a little more like trying to please the disrespectful MSM people the upper hand. And that is what angers me mostly. If HRC cannot stand up to a media who has never been respectful to her or her husband should be the last person to give a tepid answer to any MSM person concerning this president. HZ

That answer from HRC “All presidents do their best,” is really stupid on her part. She never thinks ahead. If she happened to be elected president, someone might ask about what kind of president she is, and give that same answer. She just does not think long term at all. Always in for the immediate little dig.

Does she not also realize that the answer describes her husband?

I firmly believe she will deal herself out of the top spot in the Democratic party hopefuls by comments of this kind.

This woman took no steps to rectify that and has been invisible on all the big hot button issues where the President is fighting to provide equality for all families.

Someone in my regular Wednesday Art Guild asked me how I felt about the WA Redskins needing to change their name? He said he knows Indians with no problem with the name. I said since knowing of my Native American heritage (I am an enrolled tribal member living on reservation land) I have become aware of cultural insensitivities and think the name should be changed. He then said there are schools with the name Knights. I said that is a job description not a Race or Cultural description and that comparing a Race of people with animal mascots is demeaning. He changed the subject when he saw I did not agree with him.
Afterwards, I wish I had addressed the part about some had no problem with it. Sometimes I wish I would have a quick reply that would put these type of comments in perspective. I do know that many say insensitive things with others in their presence. I did not know of my heritage until late in my life so do not take racist comments with a grain of salt. Once as a potential school board liaison attending a school board meeting with the tribal liaison I saw her totally become invisible when a member made a joke if “they” do not give us the money (the school board submitted a request for help from the tribe) we should lock them out of our school picnic. The other members laughed. I THOUGHT two tribal members are sitting right here at your table. Hello! How do you think that will help you get funding? I only wish I had said it instead of thought it. However, I was only there as a visitor with the liaison so was not in the position to speak up and was just there to observe. I spoke to her afterwards and she said she had to fight the big battles not the brush fires. To me this speaks to those that accept the slights. There are such large issues to deal with that sometimes the small ones seem unimportant.

I could not find where I had gotten the information so I GOOGLED.

Well, BuzzFeed is reporting that the sales are Not Brisk.

I just wish that many here and many of Dems are Not spending a lot of their time on this…….It is a Distraction. The media is reading Tweets and they are using the discussion on Twitter as more reason to keep covering Mrs Hillary Clinton.

    http://www.buzzfeed.com/rubycramer/hillary-clintons-book-tops-barnes-noble-sales-in-first-week

Barnes & Noble, the country’s largest retail bookseller, has sold just over 24,000 copies of the book since its release on June 10. Hard Choices debuted at No. 1 on the bookseller’s hardcover best-seller list, which includes fiction and nonfiction.

    /////

Mrs Clinton was reported to have paid $14M for this book. No way 24K sold since Jan 10, 2014 is a great sign of BRISK demand. So Folks……Just FOCUS on 2014……..That is the ONLY game in Town.
