This has been so beautiful and so overwhelming. At the end, all the children and parents surrounds POTUS, tugging and hugging and he spent the time to hug them all back. Same with FLOTUS. I hope everyone there felt just how special a day this is!!

Wow, McCain on another 180? You bet. In 2010 as the last US Troops were leaving Iraq……here’s what this man tweeted:

    John McCain @SenJohnMcCain · 18 Aug 2010
Last American combat troops leave Iraq. I think President George W. Bush deserves some credit for victory.

What ho TOD Peeps. Taking a quick break at work to check in and I am overwhelmed with all kinds of emotion at all the pictures in this post. I am so proud that PBO and FLOTUS are our President and First Lady. I am grateful that our illustrious Prez has and continues to focus on our indigenous citizens; a group that has been marginalized and ignored by the “mainstream” for forever. In my years on this planet, I have NEVER seen a President or First Lady include and recognize our country’s Native American brothers and sisters citizens with such genuine warmth and grace and attention. Such beautiful pictures. Happy Friday y’all

After reading the fact that Bowe Bergdhal was kept in a 6×6 metal box for two years, I wiped out at the inhumanity of it. Metal. Cold when it’s cold outside, hot when it’s hot. The sounds of natural phenomenon in a country like Afghanistan, storms, snow, rain beating on the metal, no place to get comfortable, no place to run or hide from the nothingness. I felt terrified for him, never having even imagined such conditions. All the while, all the two years, all the 5 years he was held, we went on about our lives: eating, drinking, blogging, traveling, helping our kids with homework, teacher conferences, shopping, movies, lighting candles, meditating, praying. And Bowe was there, hour after hour, day after timeless, endless day. Never knowing whether he would see the light of the world again. God must have been with him, but I doubt it felt so to him. If he recovers any level of human stability or peace, it will be truly a miracle. And his parents, not knowing, for 5 years. It’s almost too much to consider how painful for all of them. May God be with them now, it is not over. But he is home.

{{{{{ ❤ Layla ❤ }}}}} I sat in a solemn meditation for a long time, trying to mentally experience what must it have been like for Pvt Bergdhal. It is astonishing his spirit did not just leave his body. I didn't mean to make you cry, but I had to express what my afternoon was like, having read that short report on his captivity. Then I think I power napped, as I felt utterly exhausted.

“It is astonishing his spirit did not just leave his body…” MightyPamela, my heart just sank as I read your comments above and then I just went to a place of pain and hurtfulness for his parents to maybe have had the same thoughts.

Thank you for reminding us how delicate and painful this has to be for him and his mother and father. I pray to God that my souls will be better in order to deal with how I commit my prayers to God for the comfort, wisdom and compassion or those medical persons who will do all that is possible to bring his back to a place that his soul will be beautifully and richly moved to a sweet healing place.

Alrighty then, I’m back from *the* convocation! First off I’ll say we picked up the official piece of paper – there were no ‘cum laudes’, but offspring did make the Dean’s Honour Roll.

I very definitely missed POTUS, or FLOTUS, or even AG Holder! They have spoiled me re convocation speeches. As a parent who is not at all fond of pomp and ceremony I confess that I found this entire ceremony a bit less than impressive; however, I am quite pleased that One Son, at 21 is a Bachelor  …….. (of Fine Arts with Honours in Music). What he plans to do with this – only he, and the good Lord, knows! Although in fairness to him, he has been saying since high school that he wants to become a well-known composer. Any of you in the village need – and are willing to pay salary to – a young classical composer? I’m sure I could come up with a word-y recommendation. Let me know, as the poor young fellow’s parents have no worthwhile contacts in music, or without! ( See, there are no Clintons, Huntsmans, Bushes, Farrows, Russerts, etc. etc. ……in his family tree to assure him of a leg up, so the TOD family will need to step up to the plate.)

Dress pants, SHORT-sleeved shirt and tie, AND a thin suit jacket. It was drizzling and a little overcast, so it wasn’t hot though he was happy to get rid of the jacket as soon as the recessional was over.

Thank you on his behalf, MP! I only found out** recently that several of his closer ‘friends’ chose to do the same course in five years and he’s completed it in four. It is definitely a milestone, and I am pleased at what he has accomplished even if I don’t understand a single note.

Vc, my friends have since moved to another country who had great contacts at USC Music Dept., however, this little granny can and will pray for the very best for your wonderful son to be used in a bold and beautiful way with his music degree. I will pray for him to meet those who are well connected in the field of music where his talent will be appreciated so beautifully that his dream will come into action, being a great composer.
I will pray that doors will be opened up for him to meet wonderful people who will give him the opportunity to use his music degree for those who will love his talent, his patience to teach others, and his compassion to be patient to be used by God in a most rewarding way that will please you as well in your proudness for his accomplishments.
I will pray that his musical talents will not be limited, but will be opened to a vast number of interested people who will see a great gift in your son to be a great teacher, leader, and musician to and with other gifted and talented young people.
May his dreams become a reality as he is exposed to God’s best on his new journey with this great gift- Music. Amen. {{{{Loving hugs}}}}HZ

Many, many thanks HZ, your prayers for my son are greatly and truly appreciated! [In fact, I’m going to copy and paste it and send it to him. As a Christian, he will definitely cherish the references to ‘God’s best’.]

Me, I love the way your prayer so thoroughly covers so many aspects of his music, and I remember that you yourself followed a musical path. In fact, you were one of those telling me to ‘chill out’ a couple years back when I was lamenting in the village how I do not see the connection of music composition to ‘real life’ – 😉 😉 . Heck, I still don’t 😉 but it really isn’t *my* real life, so I’ll continue to cheer from the sidelines. 🙂

One of the good things about being a member of this family is that I know, despite my ‘lamentation’, you all know I’m tremendously proud of him. I don’t understand his focus but I respect him for his singleminded-ness, and I AM proud of him. He has come a LONG way from 875grams at birth and 3 months in the NICU!!!! 🙂 🙂

Thanks again, and take care of yourself! ❤ ❤

These pictures are gorgeous. Thank you NW for your tweets. I told my husband that I could see this group showed PBO the proper respect that he should have. Made me feel so good.

NBCNews had a short segment on the President at this event. Good pictures. Also, the first segment was on Iraq, and BriWi actually said that the cause of these awful events now was the invasion in 2003. What a surprise!!! I see, hear and feel news opinion changing toward the Bush administration and NeoCons.

Chris Matthews had a powerful, correct, and wonderful “Let Me Finish” He called out GWB and Cheney and his poor group of advisers. I don’t know how to post a video, but if you have the chance, find Matthews’ Let Me Finish. It was powerful.

I am not ok with the fact that the only way to see this important and moving event was on my computer. I am angry about this.
I observe that the media covers only events that can be negatively construed. No matter what, if it is bad for PBO they make that the story. I just can’t accept this.

Todays extreme absurdity was the New York Times front page article which slanted Eric Cantor’s tremendous collapse as if it was a Problem for POTUS. You know, because now PBO’s agenda was dead. Cantor being oh so helpful, i guess.

      This is really nuts. Unbearable.

The fightback position is to make sure that voting rights everywhere are protected and polling places available. There are more of us then there are of them. All of us must vote.

Astonishing, actually. I often think of a conversation that I had some time ago with my step dad. We were talking about PBO and I swear that he was talking about some guy that wasn’t ANYTHING like the man he was describing! The MSM has mislead America about the goodness that has been done because of this man.

The name that PBO’s Crow parents gave to him that translates as “He who helps people across the land” was prophetic. No president at any time has embraced, with respect and love, the First Nation peoples. He has been getting shit done, from day one: cleaning up the old business from promises not fulfilled to helping to position the nation for a prosperous through access to affordable health care, education, jobs, and justice. PBO’s most endearing trait is that he really sees and respects everyone.
