As Bob says and as LL & zizii have written about…we are in the struggle of our lives….it is imperative that “We the People” take our Democracy in hand….
we must become involved in grassroots campaigns in our communities….register new voters and then get them out to vote….

    Organizeeeeee….block by block…..Motivate…block by block…GOTV…Block by Block…

    Moving Forward Together…..

Morning, PF, you’re right about mobilizing and getting out the vote. As you know there is a lot of reorganizing at the county level right now as local party chairmen come to the end of their terms. That also means that a lot of silly politicking is going on (in some cases vicious) that’s distracting attention away from the main prize. I hope this ends quickly and whoever is chosen to lead county parties can rally the troops together. This is the time of year when there are lots of local opportunities for street fairs and other community events and we should be organizing to register voters. That’s why it’s so important that we sign up to volunteer at these events. Whatever issues we may have with our local parties, we need to put them aside until November.

Morning all. It’s so difficult, yet so exciting to turn 13. You feel so grownup and try so hard to be sophisticated, with it and above it all, while still being very vulnerable. The Obamas–mama and papa–must be secretly groaning about what lies ahead. Malia learns to drive this summer and Sasha enters the “attitude” period when parents become so out of touch and embarrassing.

Too true – with 90% of the media screaming “deserter” it is easy to see that a poll might return such a result. I have no idea how one forces the so called 4th estate to stop lying – it is truly ghastly what they have done to Sgt Bergdahl. I hope there is a hell and they all rot there.

        • 29 hopefruit2
          June 10, 2014 at 8:23 am

Actually, I don’t even buy those polls – media screaming or not. Just check the samples, methods, and there is little to no transparency about the actual responses and how they are tallied.

Many of these polls (especially in the Obama era) are designed to shape opinion, not report it with accuracy. They tried this with the Presidential polling back in 2012, and with the ACA…Two areas where the media and GOP were caught blind-sided by the end results because they relied heavily on their polling and someone forgot to let the “believers” know that the polling was manipulated, and not accurate…

          • 30 Lovepolitics2008
            June 10, 2014 at 10:36 am

I see your point. But in case the poll is not far from the accurate situation, what these polls demonstrate is that a great majority of the american population have been MISINFORMED or not been really INFORMED about the details. We can’t avoid them hearing lots of republican lies and distortions. But AT LEAST if journalists were fact-checking republicans talking points, if the public heard more about THE OTHER SIDE of the argument, if they knew more about the REASONING of the president, the DETAILS of the deal… Wanna bet almost nobody is aware that the prisoners will be monitored by the Quatari government for example ?

The mainstream media rarely INFORMS people. The GOP feeds them a daily dose of controversy and since it’s so much easier to talk about “controversy” than doing actual journalism, they do the bidding of the republicans every. single. time.

I’ve said it before: one of the main problems with the media is that not only they rarely fact-check the republicans talking points, they also lie by OMISSION. They never cover the details on every policy, on every decision. The public forms its opinion on a VERY TRUNCATED version of the facts. Is it any wonder why they end up in disapproval ?

Just look at the disconnect between how the public approves of most of the specific elements of the ACA, while the ACA in itself polls much lower (it’s finally changing fortunately.) A big chunk of people will say that they want the ACA to stay but with changes to make it better. Just ask them “what changes” and they won’t be able to name something specific. They’ve only heard for years that “the ACA is flawed”.

I could go on and on. You get the idea…

Rachel had a spot yesterday about fact checking by some organizations being incorrect and how people and journalists need to check for themselves using Google instead of relying on fact checking organizations. It reminds me of those using Cliff Notes in college instead of reading the books and using their own brain to answer the test questions.

Excuse me for what I’m about to say, but to hell with that poll. I have one question to ask that 56%, if it was your son or daughter would you say the price were to high? Or would you want America to move heaven and earth to get your child back? Let’s ask that question and see what they would say. With the war ending as commander in chief one of POTUS main job is to see to it that no American soldier is left behind. By the way thank you hopefuit2 for your tweet to Knoller.

    • June 10, 2014 at 8:31 am

And if these are the polls that the MSM think are worth highlighting, it sends a negative message to our troops [the ones we claim to support and are always thanking for their service] about their worth to us as a country… unless your daddy is an admiral,

        June 10, 2014 at 8:36 am

Well veterans, who are incredible vastly conservstive, are overwhelmingly against deal 66-16. According to said poll.
        Crazy ness!

        • 37 hopefruit2
          June 10, 2014 at 8:45 am

Their “opposition” to this deal has NOTHING to do how they feel about the troops or POWs returning home – it has EVERYTHING to do with how much they’ve been brainwashed and encouraged by RW media and politicians in their racism against President Obama.

If PBO had given a speech on May 31st saying that he’s not going to return Bergdahl based on X, Y and Z, this poll would be reversed….66% of the veterans would be FOR returning him no matter what the cost, and 10% would be against.

See, it’s not about their principled beliefs, it’s about doing/saying the opposite of what they think President Obama is doing/saying.

          • June 10, 2014 at 9:14 am

            Agreed Hopefruit.

The thing I keep noting is that the *reporting* is skewed towards those opposed to agreement which brought Sgt Bergdahl home… to the point that you would think that there was no one who supported it. [I heard that there will be veterans marching in front of the White House today in support of the President’s action. I bet it won’t be covered…unless there is opposition present.]

I find it hard to believe that even those “veterans” who think that Bergdahl was a deserter would not at least think that he should have been brought home and then go through the military’s due process. Those same veterans should be outraged that this soldier’s family is being threatened and vilified. Just more evidence of what it’s REALLY about.

he thing I keep noting is that the *reporting* is skewed towards those opposed to agreement which brought Sgt Bergdahl home…

My point exactly – had PBO decided *not* to bring home the Sgt, the reporting would have skewed the opposite direction.

The media is so transparent and just like the GOP, if Pres Obama appears to be for something, the media stakes out a position at the opposite side of the spectrum…reality be damned.

              • June 10, 2014 at 9:22 am

Their claim (at least for some) is that they don’t won’t to give the appearance of being too pro-Obama. Instead they are over-zealous in their efforts to prove that they are impartial. However, they didn’t seem to have a need to prove their impartiality during the previous administration.

                  June 10, 2014 at 9:29 am

Which is why I don’t buy that claim. It’s bogus. Reporting facts should never be subject to the perceptions of the rabid right. Facts are facts, and if reporting the facts makes one appear to be on the President’s side, then it should reassure that the President is doing the right thing, not frighten people away from reporting the facts.

Based on today’s Republican Party and corporate owned media using the airwaves to shape and influence what the public thinks, PBO is constantly in a no win situation regardless of what decision he makes. I am thinking it is much bigger than Racism. I think it is about power and influence and writing and controlling the laws to give unprecedented advantages to the wealthy class. PBO started out trying to work with the other side now he just has to go it alone trying to get whatever he can to help the average American or to stop the take over of the wealthy as best he can. He sticks to his convictions. What worries me are those Dems who have no convictions and just want power and do whatever is necessary to keep their job and are dully influenced by the public polls. This is what has me worried about the next President. Yes, the GOP is the real problem as we all know, but they are a given. You know what you get and know you do not want it. They do try to hide it and often times succeed with those not keeping track of events. We need to keep those around us aware of the situation.

Again, what do people know about the story ? The administration has looked at every angle. They’ve surely considered every possibility to bring back this prisoner. I’m sure they’ve considered a rescue operation, pondered the risks for special forces if they tried to rescue him.

The Taliban were moving the prisoner very regularly. A rescue operation would have been extremely difficult and would have cost many lives.

And the prisoner exchange has been in the works for a couple of years. Again, the administration must have looked at every angle, must have worked hard to find a way they could mitigate the danger of releasing those Taliban prisoners. (And anyway all the prisoners will have to be released but that’s another story…)

When you ask the question to vets if “the price is too high”, of course they will say yes. The military have fought the Talibans and they’re the enemy. Their friends have been killed or wounded by the Talibans. A prisoner swap like that is not their first idea of a solution. But those vets didn’t participate in the long process of examining what could be done. They were not “in the room”…

Very easy to criticize from the outside.

I don’t think the republicans or some in the media realize what screaming deserter means?
In a time of war, according to the Uniform code of military justice, a Deserter is punishable by firing squad.
This was first put to test during General Washington and valley forge, where his troops were freezing, no food, disease etc, and some just left ! George Washington meant to make example and he shot them!

While in captivity, Sgt Bergdahl tried escaping 2X.

PBO never said “health” was in danger but that Bergdahl’s life was in danger. It is quite possible Taliban was starting to consider Bergdahl a negative and basically said do the deal or we kill him.

And your comment above is correct, people crying “deserter”, including some veterans, don;t understand the meaning of the word. There is no evidence Bergdahl deserted yet. And there is plenty of evidence that Bergdahl hated the Taliban and wanted to take the fight to them more. The evidence is that he cared about the Afghan people and was devastated to see what was happening to them.

      • 75 Lovepolitics2008
        June 10, 2014 at 11:09 am

I didn’t see your reply before posting mine Japa. You say PBO never said “health”. Is that so ? If yes, the many uses of “health” in reports would come from interpretation by the reporters… If you don’t think about the possibility of the Talibans executing their prisoner, you immediately assume that “life in danger” means “health in danger”.

    • 76 Lovepolitics2008
      June 10, 2014 at 11:04 am

I’ve read that the administration was especially concerned that the Taliban would feel that Berghdahl wasn’t an asset anymore, that holding him prisoner was difficult and costly, that they were beginning to think he didn’t have much “value” anymore because prisoner swap wasn’t happening.

In short, the administration was getting more concerned for his life.

As I’m writing this… it’s true that at first the administration mentioned his “health”. The “fear for his life” thing came a little bit after…

So I’m wondering if , for whatever reason, the administration didn’t want at first to say the real reason for the urgency, that is they were afraid the Talibans would kill him. So they made a more vague argument that they were “afraid for his health”.

As I continue to read and hear all the criticism and lies thrown around about our President, Bowe Bergdahl and anything else the GOP and it’s media says and does, I remember that the more they talk, the more they dig themselves into a bigger hole. Despite all this nonsense, Obamacare is a success, we have recovered all the jobs lost due to the recession, the President is our President (elected twice), the stock market has nearly tripled, the car industry and housing are back, and Bowe was rescued alive. I believe once Bowe is able to talk, these people will be shown as the fools they really are. The White House is quiet, which tells me they know what they are doing. It’s too early, Jovie. Kids are graduating; summer programs are starting; people are going on vacation; primaries are still taking place. After Labor Days, everything goes into overdrive and it’s hard not to pay attention. Right now we have to concentrate on registering voters and increasing our numbers.

LOL! They said the same thing about the Presidential election in June of 2012…in fact..the enthusiasm gap narrative was the biggest selling media point until the day of the election…

Sasha Obama at 13! We all remember her from 2008…..the perky, mischievous little bright eyes who has now grown into a beautiful, poised young lady. So glad Mama Bear Michelle keeps them protected from the ugly and out of the public eye! She is doing a magnificent job.

On a personal note, Our grandson Isaac turned 13 May 30…..so I feel like we are kin to Sasha 🙂 We got him, as our first grandchild when our son married his wonderful mother. He was 2 1/2 and sat on my lap at the wedding…..now, he’s taller than I am, and a wonderful young man.
He will be first chair saxophone in the honors band next year…..wow! He taught me the joys of being a grandmother.

We got started late on the grandparent thing…..we had our children a little later than average, and our son did too, but we have learned that being grandparents is the most wonderful state in the world, as so many here attest to. Our Eric just finished second grade and won the Computer Award in his class, and a citizenship award. No surprise about the computer award, his dad owns his own networking company. Emily is a little diva who will be five in November, and they are all just wonderful.

Wonderful words Carolyn and wonderful grandchildren – like you, I came into the grandmothering rather late – never imagined the joy it would bring – whatever their age – they remain our grandbabes.

“He taught me the joys of being a grandmother.” Oh, Carolyn, you started the wonderful water works going for me, when I read that sentence. How lovely to speak those words. Enjoy every moment with your grand children, Carolyn. Love you, HZ

Good Morning my Chips and TOD family. It is a beautiful day to wake up and see our President with his lovely baby daughter, Sasha. When I see that photo, it always reminds me of PBO’s mother. What a lovely moment between a loving father and his baby daughter.

May Sasha who has grown up in our very presence as a beautiful young lady celebrate this birthday in such a lovely manner. Sasha, may your day be one of total celebration of your 13th birthday. Enjoy your day, our beautiful First Daughter.

What a joyful day for our First Family. She is such a lovely young lady . Be happy, our beautiful Sasha. Happy Birthday Sasha. HZ
