    Good morning TOD.
I would like the advice of this wonderful group.
Every day that passes I am growing more and more aware of what propaganda is and how pervasive it is.
My question to the very smart people who frequent this blog is “should we or I continue to call the slanted non-news as we see it or is that just depressing to all concerned and maybe it is better to note it but not to share?”

The NY Times was a lesson in propaganda this morning but before I detail any of it I’d like to know if this is helpful or hurtful.

Subtler, but lethal was Rachel last night having historian Michael Bechloss wax on and on about Reagan’s DDay speech. Maybe it was a great speech 30 years ago but if that is what the TV coverage is devoted to rather than President Obama’s rapturous welcome in Europe, it is by nature, dishonest.
Sort of like showing PBO and Putin in a photo together as though they have some sort of equal status—-not mentioning the ginormous difference in how the actual universe perceives these two men.

Vicki I have no problems with you bringing attention to the propaganda that our media engages in. The more people see it, the more people will know what it is and what it looks like. People who are unaware of propaganda are easily manipulated by it.

I am finely attuned to the nasty but subtle manipulation that MSNBC engages in on a daily basis – which is why I have completely stopped watching them for almost two years now. How they play “musical chairs” with the various hosts, taking turns in the PBO-bashing vs, PBO-promoting, with the goal of mostly undermining him and reducing his supporters’ confidence in his abilities, policies, strategies and decisions.

I almost don’t even watch MSNBC anymore, I certainly don’t watch it on the weekends like I used to. They have completely lost all credibility when it comes to reporting on the Obama Administration.

        Thanks for your answer hopefruit.
MSNBC was my go-to news provider for years but sadly I’ve had to let go of most of it. Rachel and the occasional Ed or Rev.Al are all that’s left and they are increasingly unwatchable.

NY Times propaganda that pissed me off today, apart from the PBO-bashing which is their usual offering is the meme that Brian Schweitzer tried to rope Ed Schultz into a few months ago.
The idea is that the Keystone pipeline is a safer way to move tarsand oil through America than rail or road.
Omitted is that if Canada wants to go full steam ahead with tarsands extraction then Canada can damn well ship it through Canada. Either east to the Atlantic or west to the Pacific.
Apparently Canadian citizens are strenuously objecting to this and of course it would cut US Oil interests out.

Publishing this idea that somehow the USA should be a transportation system for oil interests as a foregone conclusion when it is clear we can and should protect our land and water as a first priority: That’s Propaganda.

        • June 7, 2014 at 1:25 pm

Vicki – I can’t believe how much time and energy I wasted watching all the shows on MSNBC every night, like clockwork, and then watching all the weekend line-up – especially Sunday. When I realized that I spent most of my time screaming at the TV, pointing out the lies they were telling, I realized that I was not doing myself any favors, and I cut them out. All of them. My remote has not even passed by MSNBC for years now, and my life is better for it. I don’t know how people who don’t know about this site are staying informed. Case in point: the CNN nonsense yesterday that Christiane Amanpour cut through with a rare bit of truth. I fear for this country during the next two years, as another battle for the presidency rages on.

As for bringing the bad news content here – personally, I think pointing out the lies and the source is enough. I don’t need to read the actual drivel – it brings me down. If I am curious, I can google it and go read it. But, generally, I skim the first couple of lines to get the tone, and then move on when I realize they are just bashing the President with their lies, when I’ve heard or seen the actual words from the President or his people. Go to the source of the truth, and ignore the opinion-mongers.

    • June 7, 2014 at 10:13 am

I do understand how you feel…I do not think it is a waste of time to tell MSNBC your opinion about a broadcast…

and in my opinion that is exactly what the media attested to do..to deflect from the greatness of our President/it is important to point that out…esp to those who may not see it and to those who may think that we do not see their deceptive ways…and I must say…the deception is intentional…

I just wanted to say this before I go to watching Angelou Memorial Service, I was watching Week-end with Alex Witt and she had this guy up there name Col. Marcus Davis who was a prosecutor at Gitmo, and he said that the decision the President made was the right one. He said that people are talking about how dangerous those 5 Talibans were, but in their investigation he didn’t come up with enough to put those men on trial. So most likely they would be release anyway because the war was coming to an end in December. But those men had been there for 12 years, they came up with evidence to try bin Laden driver, but not those Taliban guys. So he has to question just how dangerous they were. Not saying that they haven’t done bad things, or they might do bad things in the future, but he supports the President decision. And he also said that he is someone who have disagree with the President on many things, but not this.

      June 7, 2014 at 10:23 am

These guys are their need to say that they “disagree with the President on many things, but not this” tells me that everything that they’ve disagreed with the President on has been wrong. If I were this prosecutor I’d keep my mouth shut about being wrong damn near all of the time when I disagree with the President.

      • 48 hopefruit2
        June 7, 2014 at 10:30 am

Exactly. It’s as if disagreeing with PBO somehow gives them credibility, when it in fact, doesn’t.

        June 7, 2014 at 10:34 am

It bothers me when PBO supporters, Bill Maher, for example, last night feel they have to issue a disclaimer about liking our President. It is not a failing to respect and support POTUS. You don’t need to say you disagree with him sometimes. If you really support PBO you can state your differences if and when they occur in real time.

I’m so damned sick of this qualifier from all liberal talkers except Stephanie Miller. (I know this guy isn’t a liberal talker, but it struck a nerve with me).

It’s reflexive like saying ‘you know’ to these jackasses. Is there any earthly reason why they can’t see the good this President has accomplished wholeheartedly?

Beautiful Day to my Chips and TOD family. I have greeted the morning with a humble stand before the morning here on the west coast. Refreshed the patio and tended to the lovely flowers on the patio table. Thought of how Dr. Maya Angelou loved tending her beautiful grounds at her home.

Now, I give thanks for this beautiful space, Chips. Hug my Danny for me please. Hope he will have a swin.

OWN is carrying the service Live as well. with Bill, Our First Lady, Oprah, Stedman, and Gail . It looks like Gail daughter is sitting next to her mom. Gail’s daughter is Opra’s god daughter. Those who can get her network, it is looking very lovely. Music, and all. Dr. Angelou started the celebration with reading of ‘Still I Rise.’HZ

‘I Hope You Dance’ is one of the songs that was a favorite of Dr. Angelou which she shared with many very closed to her. She reminded Oprah to listen to that song during a moment in her life. I went and purchased the song, and I love it because the message is so great and carries a lot of what Dr. Angelou would share in a moment of encouragement to those dear to her and how to love life. Love the music. HZ

      “I Hope You Dance”

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance….I hope you dance.

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin’ might mean takin’ chances but they’re worth takin’,
Lovin’ might be a mistake but it’s worth makin’,
Don’t let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,
When you come close to sellin’ out reconsider,
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance….I hope you dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance.
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

      Dance….I hope you dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance..
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone)
