Morning, Chips. What a beautiful photo of the president with Normandy vets and a perfect, stirring speech. You’ve really given us such an incredible week of information. Don’t know what we would all do without you and your brilliant partners. Have a great day!

‘Normandy – 10 people?’ Huh?…That’s what my brain read as I signed in. We really should be allowed one brain trade-in for newer model one time in our life.

Good Morning/Evening, TODobots! As you will note, only a part of *my* brain is here at the moment.

Nevertheless, here’s my wish for you all – Have a terrific Friday!

It’s already begun. I’m watching everything online and decided to check if the media was covering it and became so disgusted because the only reason CNN began covering President Obama’s trip this morning was to gossip and speculate about the President and Putin.

They truly are no better than tabloid trash. At least tabloids admit to what they are.

      • 29 jackiegrumbacher
        June 6, 2014 at 7:50 am

Nerdy, they also have no sense of history and, frankly, questionable patriotism. Honoring those who fell at Normandy is a big deal and those who don’t get it are the poorer for it. Small, pathetic souls.

        June 6, 2014 at 9:25 am

The Russians suffered enormously in WWII – if I remember my history they were screaming for the US & the UK to open the Western front long before the allies were ready to do so. Gen. Eisenhower wasn’t going into France until they were more than ready to do so. He also had well planned what they were going to do when the Germans were defeated (someone should have explained that to GWB and his friends)

It seems that much of the media think the whole event is for the soul purpose gossiping about Putin and President Obama – they really should attempt to learn something about WWII and why it is very appropriate for all of the allies to be present for this remembrance event.

        • June 6, 2014 at 2:12 pm

Yes 99 the Russians suffered more losses than any country. After the war Stalin killed more of his own people than Hitler. That includes the Ukraine and Crimean Taters. 😦

    Good Friday Chipsticks…TODers.

I was able to catch the last part of President Obama’s speech this morning as he paid tribute to the veterans. It was especially heartwarming to watch him as he interacted with the veterans and the joy on their faces as they shook hands with him and the attention that he gave to them.

Everyone have a great day and don’t forget to be awesome!!!

SW, I missed it live, but the video of the whole speech above will bring you to tears. Nobody can deliver a speech like this but our beloved president.

      • June 6, 2014 at 8:12 am

        Good Morning JackieG!!!

You are so right. He always seems to know the right tone for the occasion…the right words to say.

As a country, we to often take him for granted. Quite the opposite when he travels abroad where he is shown so much respect and admiration.

She genuinely seems to like the Obamas. They’ve stayed over at the palace and were invited by her to spend an extra night in 2011 before they hosted her at the Ambassador’s residence in London. The Obama daughters and First Lady Michelle have spent their holidays there, and she didn’t seem cross with President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama breaking British protocol by touching her.

    Pretty cool to see.

      June 6, 2014 at 7:55 am

The queen is a smart woman who has seen many phonies come and go over the years. She knows a genuine, caring and brilliant leader when she sees one and like any sensible woman, she wants to spend as much time in his company as possible.

    • 37 99ts
      June 6, 2014 at 9:33 am

They weren’t the first to break such “protocol” NW – one of our PMs early 1990s did the same – our RW press had a “great outrage” but the Queen didn’t appear to have those feelings. She was raised by parents who were pleased when the palace was bombed as it brought them closer to all the Londoners suffering from the bombings. Regardless – they are still the “aristocracy” and the “common touch” is not often seen – and it is not really expected to be seen.

Everywhere he goes, he connects with people of all races, ages, genders, etc.

It shows you what a decent person he is at his core and when people meet him face to face they truly realize it.

    • 48 jackiegrumbacher
      June 6, 2014 at 8:03 am

Nerdy, those who don’t let politics or prejudice close their hearts can’t resist our president because he is a genuine, caring human being and real people see that. It’s the tragedy of our time that so many Americans have closed their eyes to decency and wallow in their hatred and closed minds.

      • 49 CindyH
        June 6, 2014 at 8:44 am

Exactly – President Obama just beams with smarts, class, caring and charisma. I can’t think of any politician or leader quite like him. It’s really sad that so many Americans do not appreciate what they have – especially the emoprogs.

    • June 6, 2014 at 8:19 am

“…and treat him as if he’s their grandson, not just POTUS…”

Nerdy, I thought pretty much the same thing as I watched President Obama greet the veterans. While they obviously respected him as POTUS, they also spoke to him — and he listened to them — as if he were a beloved grandson. Some didn’t seem to want to let him go.

    • June 6, 2014 at 8:19 am

Indeed Nerdy. People instantly connect to him no matter race, age, gender, color, creed, culture, etc.

And that’s why it’s even more disturbing to see the level of hate directed at him from certain segments of the US media, left wing and GOP. For.No.Damn.Good.Reason.At.All.

Just popped into my head – Did Johnnie McC fly to Normandy for this occasion? He’s always rushing to troubled spots for photo-ops – does anyone know if he has ever rushed anywhere to join in commemorative support for vets?

    • 53 jackiegrumbacher
      June 6, 2014 at 8:05 am

Phony people don’t belong at an event like this. Plus he knew that the president would outshine him with his presence and his eloquence and his bitterness is greater than his sense of gratitude to those who fought and died on that fateful day.

      • 54 vcprezofan2
        June 6, 2014 at 8:10 am

JG, I know his presence would be a blight; however, it occurred to me that in the midst of the many examples of him (and his sidekicks) dashing here and there to ‘help’ rebels etc, I’d never heard of him going anywhere in positive commemoration. Never, that I can remember anyways.

Good morning Chipsticks, Danny and TOD Family,

A really strange thing happened on the “morning jokester show” featuring the jokester. I don’t know if the TOD community tweeted the imbecile about his attacks on the Bergdahl family but his mouth was closed this morning.

He opened with a statement about visiting Paris and how the people come up to him and say; we love your country but we can’t stand your President. Yeah…..right jokester, they stop to tell you this…really? They can’t stand President Obama….really?

Well, one of his cronies stated that this was a bad decision that the President made….blah…blah….blah, now we are in danger, blah….blah..blah

So the jokester asks Eugene Robinson, and Eugene supported what the President had to do. WOW…..jokester shocked. It was real apparent that he had been warned about his tantrum to speak against the Bergdahl family. Eugene stated that his colleague, can’t remember the name, has written his op-ed and they (Eugene and colleague) agree that the President was correct. Well, the jokester stated; oh really, he was on the other side a few days ago, and shook his head.

He was steaming but he made no attacks on the Bergdahl or President Obama…….just maybe, someone told him to shut the hell up. It was a Kodak moment, an early morning laugh looking at him made my morning.

A tweet here and a tweet there; phone calls, e-mails and letters can tear a mountain of ugly hate down; one small stone at a time.

“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.”

HAPPY AWESOME FRIDAY EVERYONE! Don’t forget to count your blessings.

    • June 6, 2014 at 8:57 am

No one comes up to you when you when you are in another country to tell you such a thing. I was in Germany, Austria and Germany in 2011 and not a sole mentioned who the President was. He is such a sleeve bag.

Good morning everyone. Such wonderful coverage of this memorial. I haven’t even listened to the speech yet, but just reading and looking at pictures, I have cried cleansing tears. My father served in the Army Air Corps as a chaplain during World War II. Never saw combat, fortunately for us. Dealt with a lot of young men before and after their deployments. Sad, on both ends. Remembering his stories of some young men on the eve of shipping out has given me great empathy for Sgt. Bergdahl.
