Morning early crew. The trouble with those who are “early to bed, early to rise” (and on EST) is that you get caught up in the late night threads and miss the early door. Yesterday was filled with so many fascinating, information-packed posts and comments, it’s gonna take hours to take it in and in the meantime, a new day dawns. I think this week’s hate frenzy is running its course. People are tiring of it and even the dim-witted are seeing it as a pile-on. Meanwhile our glorious president keeps on keeping on, knocking one thing after another out of the park.

President Obama needs a attack dog. A non apologetic take no prisoners person to go on Tv. A person who doesn’t apologize and doesn’t allow interruptions while speaking. Someone who stands up for what the President has done. I am sick of these wimpy democrats who are afraid of their own shadow while the repubs just say anything and that becomes the repeated narrative. All they care about is staying in office. If there is no one like that he should do it himself. No holes barred, take no prisoners, name names, deleted tweets, and callout the hypocrites on a televised address at prime time. Give them something really not to like. I personally am sick of the media, repubs and wimpy dems. It is time for a come to Jesus moment.

    • 14 hopefruit2
      June 5, 2014 at 8:07 am

Keep in mind that the corporate media including cable/network/broadcast TV is owned and operated by Republicans. Thus they will NEVER allow an attack dog who routinely defends any Democratic President, let alone PBO, free reign on any of their stations, including MSNBC. This is the main reason we don’t see Dems on TV defending this President – we only see those who are attacking him. We are his attack dogs, and we do a fine good job of it. Fewer and fewer people watch TV and/or believe what they see on it. PBO has done a great job of circumventing the conventional cable TV route. Social media, blogs, and boots-on-the-ground are the primary ways of getting PBO’s agenda across to the public.

    • June 5, 2014 at 8:11 am

So agree! I vote for PO himself and as you said, every deleted tweet, video, etc………..every thing right there and shown on camera!! Remember how forceful he was about the ACA . This needs to be even more ” in your face”, names called, etc. So wish he would do it when he returns.

      • 17 hopefruit2
        June 5, 2014 at 8:20 am

PBO got most traction on the ACA not from going on cable TV, but from alternative, nontraditional means. When he appeared on “Between Two Ferns” ACA enrollment saw a spike in website visits AND enrollment, particularly among young people.

I guess my point is that the cable TV is no longer the best way of reaching the public – where PBO’s agenda is concerned. The cable TV stations routinely black out his oversees visits, or press conferences, distort/edit his interviews, bring on GOPers to immediately criticize his live speeches, and so this President has gotten very creative in how he deals with the Republican-owned corporate media.

I don’t know if any of you recall, but he had asked at least three networks to allow him some prime time to tout the ACA enrollment, and they ALL refused. So you can’t turn around and blame him for not going on cable TV when the proprietors are largely anti-Obama and do not want him to successfully govern this country.

I think so far he has actually done an amazing job of putting his media, GOP/Libertarian, left wing, emoprog.detractors in their collective places. And he does it in a dignified manner, not by acting out of character and lowering himself in their scum.

          June 5, 2014 at 8:49 am

TV news may have fewer viewers—-especially among young people, like you said—-not sure of the drop in numbers—–but they still reach millions and affect views—–when all are preaching the same slant on the same stories hour after hour day after day. I would guess millions more are exposed to MSM reporting than check twitter or a political blog. I think it’s been a huge disadvantage and obstacle to this administration’s message. It’s been extremely frustrating and infuriating to me, this failure or refusal by our news outlets to report objectively and fairly on this administration, wherever the fault lies.

            June 5, 2014 at 11:02 am

Evidence supporting what HF2 is saying is that PBO won reelection handily and the success of ACA. I think older Americans stubbornly cling to a view that the msm is the way it was when Cronkite was around. They have a vestal trust that is no longer justified.

    • June 5, 2014 at 10:43 am

      Good Morning TODers.

Debra, I absolutely agree with you. Rep. Chris Van Hollen from my state is one of a few Dems who speaks his mind and makes no excuses. I don’t often see him on TV, but when I do he impresses – at least thus far. My husband asked the other day “where are all the Senate and House Democrats speaking out about the racism and ugliness directed at the President? I don’t know. Maybe PBO has asked them to keep quiet on the subject. Or maybe they are chickenshit. I don’t know. And I also understand (from what I have read) that several Dems are grumbling because they didn’t get their 30 day notice of getting Bowe back.

As far as the media is concerned – yeah pretty useless. Look at how they reported that Bowe “left a note”. Lies WH and Hagel said there was NO note. They said 6 guys died looking for him. Hagel said there is NO confirmation of that. So the media picks up talking points without doing any investigation and blast the misinformation 24/7. I’ve learned not to look to anyone on TV for consistent truthful coverage of anything that has to do with President Obama. That’s why I love TOD and a few other blogs. So yes, I’m as pissed of the MSM as I am with the Republicans because they carry their water. And I’m damned frustrated with wimpy Democrats.

Rikyrah, I see this as one more nail in the TIME readership coffin. I unsubscribed to TIME in the early nineties and never looked back. A weekly news magazine is an anachronism and will soon take its place beside the buggy makers.

    • June 5, 2014 at 8:19 am

Did they ask if it was worth the thousands of deaths for a war that our soldiers — including Bowe Bergdahl — shouldn’t have been involved in in the first place!?!?!?!?!? Not to mention the treatment — mistreatment — of our soldiers while they are there as well as when they come home?

We talk about PTSD once our soldiers return home. What about the mental trauma they experience while there?

What a stupid dam cover for Time, but it’s not their first. Just what if this young soldier walk away suffering from mental issues? What are this cover saying, we should have left the soldier over there to die. Maybe the Taliban would have video tape them killing him, cutting his head off, if that had occur, what would the media and politicians be saying then? Obama had the chance to save that young American life but he didn’t. The media, the right wing haters and these politicians are full of alot of Bullshit.

  12. June 5, 2014 at 8:12 am

It’s sad that the politics of our country has become such that it is difficult to do the right thing and that doing the right thing can subject one (and anyone associated – directly or indirectly) to attack.

Perhaps I have become desensitized and cynical to the *skewed* ranting that is prevalent on the MSM. Whatever the reason, I choose to discount their continuous attack on Sgt Bergdahl and on this President for having the *audacity* to bring a POW home. I see it as part of their on-going political/Koch-directed agenda to discredit this President; another attempt to overshadow all his good work by casting a dark cloud on his legacy.

Honestly, I find it hard to believe that ANY veteran would not be of the mindset that no soldier should be left behind. I suspect that those that are being paraded before us who think that it’s okay are in the minority. If there is reason to believe that a charge of desertion (or any other crime) is warranted, the military has procedures to deal with that.

We seem to have moved away from innocent until proven guilty and the right to face one’s accusers. Instead, we are moving towards public trial via the media based mostly on opinion and speculation rather than fact.

One can almost feel the utter contempt that President Obama has for weak dems and republicans alike. You get the sense that President Obama is unconstrained in what he does or says, hell, even his advisers are just along for the ride at this point. It is safe to say that President Obama has beaten all challengers; it isn’t even a fair fight any more.

    • 44 hopefruit2
      June 5, 2014 at 8:23 am

Indeed Don. At this point, PBO’s detractors are flailing. They constantly make themselves look like utter fools – despite a mega media propaganda machine working on their behalf. He continues to defeat them, and they’re now in the certifiably unhinged phase of their ODS….

Dear GOP: The US has negotiated with Terrorists and Amnestied Them all through History

      By Juan Cole

Conservatives seem to want to have it both ways. If you negotiate the release of US captives with the enemy you are “negotiating with terrorists.” If you don’t, then you have left soldiers behind on the battlefield. The fact is that the only way to have freed them was to have offered something for them in detailed negotiations. As for the Viet Cong “terrorists,” many of them are in government now and the US has cordial relations with them.

Per a news release from Senator Heitkamp:

U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today welcomed President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to Indian Country in North Dakota. The President and First Lady’s visit will enable Native Americans in the state to show their culture and history, and it will also help shine a light on the challenges many Native American families face, such as high rates of poverty, suicide, and abuse, and the lack of housing.

The President and First Lady will visit North Dakota’s Standing Rock Sioux Reservation on Friday, June 13. Heitkamp will join the President and First Lady during their visit to Standing Rock. The last time a sitting president visited Indian Country was in 1999 when President Bill Clinton went to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

A negotiated peace in Afghanistan is the goal

    Posted by Nancy LeTourneau

At this point, the hysteria about Sergeant Bergdahl’s home-coming is so perverse that its almost impossible for actual information to penetrate.
The announcement that the U.S. government had secured the release of missing U.S. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl and that it was freeing five senior Taliban figures from Guantanamo Bay has been portrayed first and foremost as a prisoner exchange. But the four-year history of secret dialogue that led to Saturday’s release suggests that the main goal of each side may have been far more sweeping.

It was about setting the stage for larger discussions on a future peaceful Afghanistan.

    GM all.

Today I am pretty much outraged out. Pretty much, but not totally.

Here is the question that I ask Time and all those who say we gave up too much, specially since these 5 would have to be released at the end of the year anyway. What would have been the right price? What price are you going to commit to as to what an American serviceman is worth?

I don’t hear or see anybody asking that question to those who say that we gave away too much. I want to pin these jerks in a corner and make them commit to an answer.

Perhaps the critics could volunteer to go and sit in a cell as hostages for the Taliban for the next four or five years… Since they aren’t doing anything over here to make a difference anyway? Just offering a positive solution…

As I’ve been saying, PBO is never blindsided when it comes to the GOP – otherwise he wouldn’t be a two-term President. He is 10 steps ahead of the game – anyone’s game, including mine and yours.

They have already passed the point of overreaching Zizi. They always walk into his traps; they never learn. PBO is on MSNBC Live tv right now doing his presser wit Cameron.

Good morning Ms Chips and TOD! Nice to know that our president is over here on our side of the “Pond”, almost worth it to drive over to Brussels on the chance of glimpsing him somewhere. I am hoping that this absurd, overblown “poutrage” from the GOP about the Bergdahl rescue blows up in their faces.

I got it hf – great tweets – and now we have a question – from the British Press – about Ukraine – which is part of the G7 discussions I have no doubt.

    Good morning all.
I was watching on C-SPAN but they left PBO and Cameron to cover the Senate. WH.gov now

“Conservative Entertainment Complex” zizi. Right. MSNBC is the democratic flavored broadcasting arm of the GOP and Fox is the GOP broadcasting arm of the GOP. CNN, CBS, ABC, PBS etc are main-stream flavored broadcasting arms of the GOP.

Pretty much whatever we are shown on television comes from a single point of view.
    Newspapers, too.
In New York the 3 biggest circulation papers present a united view. The class an educational differences are evident in the papers–stylistically— presentations but the politics are uniform

Hillary Clinton: I’ve Had One Concussion, But Paul Ryan Has Had Three

“It was funny: At the inauguration for President Obama’s second term, I was standing [with] Paul Ryan. I said, ‘Congressman, I read that you’re a great athlete. Have you ever had a concussion?’ ‘Oh, yeah. Three at least,'” Clinton said. “I said, ‘Were they serious?’ He said, ‘One was really serious. I’m so grateful to my mother, because she said, “You’re grounded. You’re going to rest until it goes away.” And of course it did.'”

Just so you know, I’m here, BUT I have a laptop that keeps cutting in and out for no apparent reason. It just booted me out while I was trying to link to WH.gov, so I shut things down, took out the battery, and left it out. Now I’m signed in using my electrical outlet continuously – will be interesting to see how long before I get kicked out again. Ah, technology – I love to hate it (even tho I’m very familiar with the old saw, ‘a bad worker always blames his tools’)! 😉

Thank you on his behalf, Andogrif!

If you ever come this way, especially with your musical son/family, maybe you all can have a fun music session together. I suspect the reason mine rarely plays at home – except when he was recording an assignment for his course – is because I’m tone deaf, not the least bit interested in classical music, and so he had no like-minded company.

That’s why I tells ya that PBO doesn’t need any Dem/attack dog “defending” him on corporate TV, when he’s armed with the facts and the truth. His performance today at the presser was an A+. We saw it; the media saw it; the Republicans saw it; the Democrats saw it. Case closed.

hopefruit2 – I agree with you. PO needs no attack dog. I chuckle to myself every time because can’t nobody play the dozens better than our POTUS. He’ll let you take the first punch but then be prepared because his words will knock you out and send you crying to your momma. 🙂

The other soldiers who are sitting on tv saying that some soldiers got killed looking for Bergdahl, I have heard the department of defense say that they were not aware of that.
