    Congrats on 1st, COS.

    Lovely, Chips, just lovely!! Thank you!!

    Had just posted this on the previous thread …

    Thank you, df, for posting this earlier today – http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal-a/2014_06/your_message_here050586.php

    Here’s my recommendation ….

    I really want to stick it to the repulsive kleptocratic #GOP by emulating the ‘win one for the gipper’ and leverage the ‘one’ and ‘for’ (alliteration) with 1 & 4 given how convenient it is that the election is in 20-14 🙂

    Doubt that anyone will pay attention, but it’ll cost the DEMS a lot less than what some fancy ad agency will charge them 😀 😀

    It’s our solemn duty to honor President Obama while he is still President in the most meaningful way we ever could. Give him a DEM 114th!!

  4. June 2, 2014 at 9:08 pm

    Mission Accomplished, Tzar Vlad ….

    That dude and War Criminal Bush have so much in common ….

    Gorgeous photos, whetting TODville’s appetite for yet another (!) foreign trip by the Obama team.

    PBO always maintains his elegance even under grueling and exhausting conditions, but I think his staff may not possess his aplomb. They’re under immense pressure, can’t forget to tote and stage all the necessary papers and props while representing the USA abroad.

    Hats off to everyone traveling with POTUS, and hope they are able to enjoy their whirlwind schedule.

    Reposting from the prior thread:

    Trying to catch up on lurking duties here at TOD (and the rapid posting of new threads doesn’t make it easier, LOL.

    Check out this post from Chips in yesterday’s Early Bird Chat thread, which made me howl.

    “I’m doing up the week ahead schedule for R&S, 99ts, and Sunday has ‘no public events scheduled’ – I laugh now when I see that. Last week he turned up in Afghanistan, heaven knows what he’ll do today. Hopefully golf, but knowing him, he’ll probably bring peace to the Middle East by lunchtime.”

    Many of us are involved in on-the-ground activities to move the world forward and in support of PBO’s agenda;

    I am glad to see that a number of today’s activities to promote Action on Climate Change had an emphasis on locally-based examples of why there is urgency to act now;

    for the most part, it is true that all politics is local;

    additionally, many voters have a Not In My Back Yard (NIMBY) attitude and will only act/vote based on how a given policy would affect their personal circumstances;

    I believe that one of the challenges most of us who believe in and advocate for robust actions on climate change (like the ones PBO announced today) is to make the current and anticipated effects of global warming more local, real and tangible;

    this is especially true when dealing with those voters who may be wavering or many be thinking that the negative effects of climate occur in far away lands or very far into the future;

    for instance, skeptic people may act/vote differently when they realize that their community is directly threatened;

    advocates should look for more creative ways to remind climate-skeptics that the need to act on climate change is personal (i.e. will affect the day-to-day actions and decisions in households and communities in concrete/tangible/resource-destroying ways) ‘

    I know people here can express these sentiments better than me – so feel free to be more concise than my attempt =>

      Did you see this from the last post?

      * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
      Today I noticed that the population sign for Oxnard said: elevation 62 feet.

      Climate change is here now, and if it continues apace, the fertile Oxnard agricultural plain (which is the nation’s strawberry capital, and makes tons of money by exporting the showiest and most perfect fruit to Japan — produced year-round) may be in serious trouble.

      MSM likes to report on “what-if” situations along the east and gulf coasts, but California is in jeopardy too.

      For those interested in the public good that buses provide, check out my post at the end of the last thread — my local bus service costs $2.50 round trip to go 50 miles, and all buses offer plush velour (comfortable!) seats, electrical outlets, free wi-fi, bike racks and operate using natural gas (no exhaust fumes).

        No, I had missed it from earlier;

        thanks for this information;

        this is one example of how rational people can made great decisions when they are aware how these decisions affect their individual circumstances, their families, their local communities and the ultimate global community

      Just heard a report on CBS news radio that said that 75 coal fired power plants could be closed by the savings associated with the President’s plan.

      Hopefully they will repeat the report at 7 pm PDT because I missed the specifics of this statement.

    No surprise, and we here at TOD are on the front lines of fighting against Tzar Vlad’s propaganda campaign …

    “Russia’s campaign to shape international opinion around its invasion of Ukraine has extended to recruiting and training a new cadre of online trolls that have been deployed to spread the Kremlin’s message on the comments section of top American websites.

    Plans attached to emails leaked by a mysterious Russian hacker collective show IT managers reporting on a new ideological front against the West in the comments sections of Fox News, Huffington Post, The Blaze, Politico, and WorldNetDaily.

    The bizarre hive of social media activity appears to be part of a two-pronged Kremlin campaign to claim control over the internet, launching a million-dollar army of trolls to mold American public opinion as it cracks down on internet freedom at home.”

          You would have been the bff of my aunt. She had 6 children and rarely fed less than a dozen folks at a meal – everyone in the neighborhood gravitated to her house – she told me many times there was always room for 1 more at her table.

          • 85 lockewasright
            June 2, 2014 at 11:20 pm

            That’s how I feel about it too! The neighborhood kids all come straight over here most days. We love to have a houseful. It can be a hassle sometimes, but all of the kids are comfortable with us, we know who are kids are hanging out with, and most of the time the kids are where we can see them.

            When I was in high school a few of my friends and my siblings’ friends used to “accidentally” show up right around dinner time because my dad’s a heck of a cook and he didn’t mind feeding everyone either.

    Just watched Jon Stewart do an excellent segment on this country’s refusal to do anything about all the gun violence and the seemingly growing acceptance of this reality and the media’s role in this absurdity by distracting with dumb stories——Kimye wedding extravaganza anyone?———-and then I click on the Chgo Trib and see 7 people were shot tonight at a southside laundromat, including a 14 yr. old.

    Only FLOTUS could sit with our First Dogs and enjoy them as much as they enjoy her. And I must say, as David Axe once said to Candy Crow, (forgive me,) “Bo is the sweetest most well behave dog he has ever been around.” Candy Crow was trying to say that BO was putting on.’ David corrected her immediately, as only David Axelrod can do.

    This is lovely to see all of the joys of our First Family, the little princess in the Oval Office sitting and then smiling and walking with the President. What a beautiful group of sweet souls we have in our midst. I love them all. It is so wonderful to know that out of the millions who worked so hard to get our President and VP elected that we in turn made it possible for so many people, small and tall to get to touch their POTUS, FLOTUS, VPOTUS and SLOTUS.
