Keller ISD trustee faces reaction to anti-Muslim comment
WFAA – Updated today at 9:12 AM

A comment posted on the Facebook account of a new Keller Independent School District trustee is getting a lot of buzz on social media this weekend.

Place 5 representative Jo Lynn Haussmann offered this statement to voters in Southlake:
“Do you realize because SO FEW voters took the time and responsibility to VOTE in the municipal elections – YOU NOW HAVE A ‘MUSLIM’ on the City Council!!! What A SHAME!!!!”

Haussmann, 62, apparently deleted the post, but not before a reporter with WFAA media partner the Fort Worth Star-Telegram took a screen grab and tweeted it.

GOPer Changes Name To Cesar Chavez, Becomes A Dem To Run In Heavily Hispanic District

    Catherine Thompson – June 2, 2014, 2:09 PM EDT

One failed GOP candidate will do just about anything to win in Arizona’s heavily Hispanic 7th congressional district — including switching parties and legally changing his name to that of Hispanic labor and civil rights icon Cesar Chavez.

The Arizona Capitol Times reported Monday that Scott Fistler, who launched a failed write-in campaign as a Republican against Rep. Ed Pastor (D-AZ) in 2012, successfully petitioned an Arizona superior court last November to change his legal name to Cesar Chavez. Chavez also became a Democrat earlier this year before filing to run for the congressional seat being vacated by Pastor, who is retiring.

Reached for comment by the Capitol Times, Chavez said he had been “flooded with calls and emails” and was no longer speaking to the press. He also told the newspaper that if he did decide to answer its questions, he would not discuss the name change.

“There is just simply not enough Cesar Chavez to go around,” he wrote, as quoted by the Capitol Times. “We may resume questions starting May 10 [sic].”

There is a strong Hispanic population in my state representative district NW of Chicago. We have been represented by a Dem for the past 3-4 terms. This year there is an Hispanic running on the GOP side. What is interesting is that absolutely none of his campaign literature mentions the fact he is a Republican. But he does have the Koch brothers on his side as Americans for Prosperity is sending out a lot of mailers bashing the current Dem state rep.

        • June 2, 2014 at 11:03 pm

Remember when the MA ex Senator that is now running in NH did not disclose his party affiliation readily, talked of his admiration for JFK, and drove an old pickup to be one of the people? I have wondered if the GOP would pretend to be Dems in order to get votes. I also remember there was someone pretending to be an AA in the South to get votes.

Ok TOD wordsmiths!! This is your chance to pick the winning slogan for the midterms:) SO many people here qualified to do this…

    http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal-a/2014_06/your_message_here050586.php

According to The Hill’s Mark Lillis, House Democrats are working on a snazzy slogan to package their collective messaging for Campaign ‘14, hearkening back to a similar and very successful midterm effort in 2006:

House Democratic leaders plan to launch a 2014 version of the “Six for ‘06” strategy that propelled them into the majority eight years ago.
Though still in the development stages, the strategy will mirror the 2006 campaign in featuring a series of specific policy points designed to distinguish the Democrats’ priorities from those of the Republicans, according to party leaders.
Democrats this year have not yet said what their campaign slogan will be, nor have they indicated which policy points it will feature. But several domestic priorities they’ve been pushing for many months seem likely to make the cut, including a hike in the minimum wage, an extension of emergency unemployment benefits, an overhaul of the nation’s immigration system and a focus on boosting the status of women in the workplace. It likely will not be released until after Labor Day when voters are paying more attention to campaign politics.

Mine might have something to do with the Future and the Stone Age….. 🙂

    This is cool..

Apple CEO Tim Cook took the stage at the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco on Monday to announce the latest features for iPhones, iPads and Macs.
Apple (AAPL) unveiled iOS 8, an update to the operating system that powers iPhones and iPads. It will be available for download in the fall.

One of the biggest additions to iOS 8 is a new HealthKit application. The app will monitor users’ heart rates, sleep, weight and blood pressure among other health-related information. HealthKit will allow clinicians at the Mayo Clinic to send health information to a user’s app, which can in turn send that data to a user’s primary physician. It also syncs with third-party fitness devices and apps.

I understand….but Dems have a big tent and many, many views represented on various issues. If we start demanding absolute purity with no room for compromise, then we are no better than the RWNJ’s that we despise with the heat of a million suns. I think of the positives that she would bring to the table…wages, women’s rights etc…

            • 51 japa21
              June 2, 2014 at 4:21 pm

This X 1,000,000. The GOP used to allow for some divergence and it was much healthier for the party and the country. It is now such a strict purity demanding party that it is diminishing slowly but surely, and it definitely is not good for the party.

We cannot go the same route. Some oppositional voices are good to have amongst us. We need that challenge to keep us on our toes. If it is only coming from the outside, we tend not to pay it any attention.

And yes, in terms of so many issues and also in terms of the SCOTUS, Grimes winning is very important.

agreed, japa. I think that if we all become “Yes men/women” and agree with every. single. thing. we become numb and lazy. We ARE the party that welcomes all views that align with democratic principles…this “going against the grain” is indicative of her state and the constituents she represents, and the fact that there is room in out party for someone not being in total lockstep. Maybe, rather than bash a President that cares about her, her state, and the people in that state…what she COULD say, is that” PBO has only the best intentions, but I would do things a little differently, and here’s why…” In fact, anyone that foolishly insists on bashing the President might want to use those very words if they have a disagreement with the words/ vision that PBO has said. Other Dems and sane R’s that realize their party has left them in the dust, might respond very well to this reasoned approach. My 2 cents.

Nah. She MAY just be modern enough to recognize a social media name. Hopefully.

{Frankly, as a ‘youngster’ I find her disappointing. She doesn’t seem to be coming in with any new ideas other than ‘no’ to McConnell, and only to Mitch. In fairness, I haven’t followed her campaign, but nothing really positive has leaked out that I’ve heard about. Also, for starters, the fact she has enough Clinton influence is a huge turnoff to me. The Clinton gang does not impress me as caring much about the average person, or having any idea what works for 2014 and forwards.

I do not believe that Grimes is about bait and switch/I believe this is where she stands and she stands on the wrong side of history…

It is not about demanding purity/but when you make part of your campaign to bas the President on Climate Change/I am going to take you at your word/

It is bad karma to wish bad on someone/but her positions are not good for the people she wants to represent….

I’m with you. Hey, I’m pragmatic, but we don’t need another Manchin. The least she could have done was worked with the Dem governor on ACA, who would have had her back. Instead she wasted precious time trying to see if she could still score points bashing ACA.

Her disgraceful run to the mic to say she was one of the first to call for Shinseki’s head, and now this?

Is there no way that a message can be crafted that shows the least nod to the 21st century? Is there no Dem in these states that can say, “we’ll find safer, better jobs for you with energy for the 21st century?”

This was strike three for me for Grimes. Being a light teabagger isn’t going get her elected in KY anyway.

I suppose this foolish woman doesn’t realize, her chances of beating McTurtle are slim to begin with. She should just run as a loud, proud democrat. She has nothing to lose by doing that. Campaigning against PBO is not going to help her get dems to vote. I don’t understand why these dems think they need to run as repugs. If voters want a repug Senator they will vote for the real deal.

I agree with Desertflower and Debz. I simply hope that her stupid tactics work against the seasoned veteran. But if she had strong conviction, she could explain her concerns about coal (without coming out too harsh against it) but propose what she supports and make a strong case. People bashing POTUS never win.

I wish her well but will not be surprised if she loses.

This. WV does the SAME thing! Look at Manchin:) These people’s way of life is tied to coal mines and it has been this way for GENERATIONS. They need to be shown another way to make a good living for their families. NOT tied to deathly coal mines! I have to say I’m becoming convinced from the picture this Grimes person projects, and the people she surrounds herself with, that she is not very far-sighted. Sure I want her to win because she’s a Dem, but her decision making to date doesn’t seem too impressive.

          • June 3, 2014 at 11:26 am

I’d like to see Mitch McConnell unseated. The victory would be so sweet. But, yes, her decisions make me think that if she gets the senate, she is really going to show out and be worse than Joe Manchin.

This woman is spending SIX-FIGURES on an anti-Obama ad? Money that President Obama probably raised for the DSCC? I can’t. I just…..ugh.

Oh I would be so elated to see senator ‘one term president’ unseated!!

              re the SIX-FIGURES ad

I suspect Alison is going by the advice of Clinton idiots, like that Carville dude, which does not give me a good feeling about her own intelligence. Her reaction, or performance, strikes me as one of those cases where you so revere your parents’ friends while growing up, that you fail to pause and accept that their wisdom that might have been ‘wise’ years ago is virtually outdated now. In other words, Alison (and Chelsea) can’t seem to see that the Clinton and their aides are really past their political prime.

One of the things about the Clintons that puzzles me is that their political/organizing ineptitude is rarely researched in depth and highlighted. I vaguely remember that Hillary’s campaign was not financially successful (PBO helped her out in the end), and didn’t the Clinton Foundation have some financial glitch somewhere along the line? Folk wisdom may suggest that they are the political cat’s meow, but I am not impressed by their control of either their delegates, their message, or their organizational skills. IMO Alison is a ‘fool’ to not see the value of PBO and his vision and not align herself with his position.

              • June 4, 2014 at 11:47 am

All very true. I always wondered why Hillary Clinton, married to a guy who won the presidency TWICE, made such horrible mistakes during her campaign.

    Don’t mess with seniors!!!

    This is so
    cute!
    Have a good day everyone

Shown below, is an actual letter
that was sent to a bank by an 86 year old woman.

The bank manager thought it amusing enough to have it
published in the New York Times.

    Dear Sir:

I am writing to thank you for
bouncing my check with which I endeavored to pay my plumber last
    month.

    By my calculations, three
nanoseconds must have elapsed between his presenting the check and the arrival
in my account of the funds needed to honor it.

I refer, of course, to the

automatic monthly deposit of my entire pension, an arrangement which, I admit,
has been in place for only eight years.

You are to be commended for
seizing that brief window of opportunity, and also for debiting my account $30
by way of penalty for the inconvenience caused to your bank.

    My thankfulness springs from the
manner in which this incident has caused me to rethink my errant financial
ways. I noticed that whereas I personally answer your telephone calls and
letters, — when I try to contact you, I am confronted by the impersonal,
overcharging, pre-recorded, faceless entity which your bank has
    become.

From now on, I, like you, choose
only to deal with a flesh-and-blood person.

    My mortgage and loan repayments
will therefore and hereafter no longer be automatic, but will arrive at your
bank, by check, addressed personally and confidentially to an employee at your
    bank whom you must nominate.

Be aware that it is an OFFENSE
under the Postal Act for any other person to open such an
    envelope.

    Please find attached an
Application Contact which I require your chosen employee to
    complete.

I am sorry it runs to eight
pages, but in order that I know as much about him or her as your bank knows
about me, there is no alternative.

Please note that all copies of
his or her medical history must be countersigned by a Notary Public, and the
mandatory details of his/her financial situation (income, debts, assets and
liabilities) must be accompanied by documented proof.

    In due course, at MY
convenience, I will issue your employee with a PIN number which he/she must
    quote in dealings with me.

I regret that it cannot be
shorter than 28 digits but, again, I have modeled it on the number of button
presses required of me to access my account balance on your phone bank
    service.

As they say, imitation is the
    sincerest form of flattery.

Let me level the playing field
    even further.

When you call me, press buttons
    as follows:

    IMMEDIATELY AFTER DIALING, PRESS
THE STAR (*) BUTTON FOR ENGLISH

#1. To make an appointment to
    see me.

    #2. To query a missing
    payment.

#3. To transfer the call to my
living room in case I am there.

#4 To transfer the call to my
bedroom in case I am sleeping.

#5. To transfer the call to my
toilet in case I am attending to nature.

#6. To transfer the call to my
mobile phone if I am not at home.

#7. To leave a message on my
computer, a password to access my computer is required.

    Password will be communicated to
you at a later date to that Authorized Contact mentioned earlier.

#8. To return to the main menu
and to listen to options 1 through 7 again.

#9. To make a general complaint
    or inquiry.

The contact will then be put on
hold, pending the attention of my automated answering service.

#10. This is a second reminder
    to press* for English.

    While this may, on occasion,
involve a lengthy wait, uplifting music will play for the duration of the
    call.

    Regrettably, but again following
your example, I must also levy an establishment fee to cover the setting up of
    this new arrangement.

May I wish you a happy, if ever
so slightly less prosperous New Year?

    Your Humble Client

    And remember:
    Don’t make old people mad.
We don’t like being old in the first place,
so it doesn’t take much to piss us
    off.

Tricky Dick was a nickname of Richard M. Nixon. Today, there isn’t a trick too devious that today’s TBGOPer would not try to get political power. They cheat. They suppress votes. The falsely use ad gimmicks and now legally changing name to win an election? The very same people that loath gov’t?

Please help. Someone here a while ago (I want to say Jackie?) did a comment on Bill Clinton’s presidency mess (Glass-Steagal, etc.). It was so well put together. I can’t find it. Does anyone remember the post it was in or maybe have the link? Thank you!

I think it might have been 57 and female. Ask her when you run into her. Good luck; it always takes me forever (or never) to locate stuff.

These days, the TBGOPers and their brethren, the National Media, are all reacting to whatever, wherever and whenever pres Obama does, goes or speaks. Is their any wonder that their collective heads have been imploding? Heck No!

Yet they have the audacity to call the president Lame Duck?

It has been quite interesting watching, reading and hearing these DC/NY politicians and the MSM make a total bat poop of themselves.
