Night owl chat – The incredible Bill Evans

In last night’s Night Owl Chat, I included a clip of the genius that was Bill Evans. As I am wont to do, I then went and viewed some more videos, and came across this one, comprised of two sessions he did for the BBC program “Jazz 625” in the 1960s. I think that after the ugliness which has spewed forth these past two days, a bit of beauty is in order.

Stay frosty, night owls.

Reminds me of the photo – pretty sure with President Obama – where the little boy in the back row of the bleachers was stealing a kiss from the little girl next to him. Wish I had it handy – too cute!

Couldn’t help but look it up!

      Goats climbing trees in Morocco

… This is from my recent trip to Morocco. The trees are Argan, and the unlikely companions are goats. The goats have adapted to climb the Argan trees for their bright yellow, olive-sized fruit. After the goats have digested the fruit, they expel pits which contain kernels that are ground to produce a highly valuable, nutty argan oil. These ancient trees date back to the earth’s Tertiary Period, 1.6 million years ago … This whole area (10,000-square-mile) is a UNESCO-Reserve; it’s located between the Atlantic and the Atlas Mountains …

funny, JOB, I just posted the comment below, before I read your comment. I was so amazed to see that and I’m still looking for this specific oil which contains arnica for healing massages; which we got from the Herberista shop in Agadir…..lots of fakes and hard to find the authentic one.

Interesting article on President Obama, “THE OBAMA PARADOX.” Apart from the fact that it’s the most obnoxious Politico and there are some attitudinal editorial impositions, there are enough tidbits here worth nibbling. Some snippets:

Obama is giving more thought to his post-presidency than his aides like to suggest…..despite his deep connections to Chicago, he has told friends he would like to live in New York City.

Indeed, a notable change in the president’s routine is his nightly wrap-up meeting with McDonough. Obama would spend only a few minutes with his previous chiefs of staff before heading to the residence for dinner with his family. But Obama and McDonough can talk for up to an hour every weeknight, engaging in philosophical discussions about the presidency as well as plotting how to head off troubles awaiting them the next morning.

Obama had asked his hosts to put together a dinner of “interesting Italians’’

“I needed the golf. I needed to laugh. I needed to spend time with friends.’’

“The president thinks even if you don’t work for him anymore, you still work for him,” said Favreau, who is assisting with the presidential library and still gets called on to review Obama’s major speeches.

These nightly discussions with McDonough brings new light to the interview yesterday when the President mentioned his Chief of Staff in reference to VP Biden and Hillary – in an answer to a question about the 2016 Presidential election. Interesting…

The music of these greats made some wonderful items on my candlelight dinners about ten years ago. Oh, the bliss of a lot of pre-planned jazz, candles placed just in the right place, great meals(that I prepared with a theme for each one) this wonderful man shared some quality time in my space; well we did in each others space. We both loved Bill Evans, Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, Diane Schuur, John Coltrane; oh, I better shut it up before I give the ‘Romance in the Life of HZ.’

I planned some wonderful winter evenings, sultry summer evenings, and breezy spring brunches. Oh, the life of yesterdays. These music evenings bring back some wonderful “date night” memories, TOD family. Love them, and thanks for all of the great music, LL, Dudette, Yardarm and all of this great family known as the TOD family. We are a beautiful group of such wonderful talent, love, brilliant minds, caring and compassionate souls.

I love this place so much. Thank again LL. Good night TOD village. I love you all so much. Pray for me because tomorrow, if granted to me; I have to hit the ledger and do some paper work. I put it off as long as possible. Do not like it at all. Stresses me out. {{{{TY}}}}}}HZ

ABC News had a great report on the POW release tonight. The did a top notch job.

NBC was about 78% good, but they just had include 25% of repuk concern trolling.

CBS on the other hand was completely Fox Lite, inviting a Bush stooge to denounce everything. CBS has really gone into the toilet the last 2 years..

    • June 1, 2014 at 11:07 pm

I taped all 3 to see what coverage they would provide as well………. I hate CBS’s NS experts are both Bushies Juan Zurete(forget spelling of his name) and they signed Condi Rice as their other NS *expert* last year as well….was bad enough having Atkinson there as well….quite frankly I was surprised NBC didn’t have Andrea Mitchell spewing B.S. tonight……expect she is saving her crap for tomorrow. I also so that CNN has hired former Bibi stooge Ambassador Michael Oren as their new International expert……..he said they had swapped 7000 prisoners for P.O.W.’s in the past few years….yet still managed to question President Obama’s decision..

We have found ABC weekend news with David Muir to be good. I don’t know why Lester Holt always has to add some snark to his reporting, but he usually does. We watch ABC on weekends. Can’t tolerate Diane Sawyer, so don’t watch during the week. Don’t like Brian any more and his slants, can’t tolerate Chuck Todd, so don’t watch NBC during the week. So…..we don’t watch evening news during the week.
Thanks for the analysis and report.

Just finished watching Game of Thrones(thought it was the mid-season finally) happy to report it is not……now watching this crazy Hawks/Kings NHL Game 7….it is going to overtime to see who will play the N.Y. Rangers in Stanley Cup finals…..no seeing this report as well

    A threesome?

“Former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, wanted by US authorities and currently living in Russia, has told a Brazilian TV network he has applied for asylum in Brazil and is in possession of more sensitive documents.” Guess the russians have a copy of the data & don’t want to have Snowden around any longer

I like that our news service does not refer to him as a whistle-blower/hero

Morning, DD4O. For a tech savvy young man, he doesn’t seem to be aware that he leaves an easily traceable path. Or else, he really doesn’t care. He seems quite befuddled to me….reminds me of Dubya in some ways – very manipulatable [made-up word?].

          • 117 99ts
            June 2, 2014 at 8:00 am

Probably could have stopped at “He doesn’t seem aware” – He didn’t ever imagine he would end up in Russia or that GG would get the fame and money & he would get Putin.

              June 2, 2014 at 8:05 am

G’Night, TS. You have a point. Despite his seeming naivete, there is unfortunately nothing Snowden can do now that would make me feel sorry for him. All of his actions to date strike me as unpatriotic and self-serving. Or should I say, Greenwald-serving?

              • 119 99ts
                June 2, 2014 at 8:08 am

GG serving indeed – I don’t feel sorry for him either – but he sure got screwed by everyone he came in contact with. Probably would have done better talking to just about anyone. Karma.
