Morning, Chips. Last night’s “chat on” was filled with great stuff, which I saw this morning. Can’t believe how much is happening this week. PBO just keeps going and going and going. WHEW!!

No kidding. I peak in the early morning and then it’s down hill all the rest of the day. How he can come blasting out day after day, setting the world on fire, giving memorable speeches and zipping through time zones is beyond me. I never knew of or read about a president this tireless.

If you (or anyone else in TODville) sees this, please let me know whether the tweets in my post on the previous “Chat On” thread appeared as tweets (aka inside a white box) or as just a URL.

I’m getting a new computer soon, so hopefully I can answer my own question (on this computer they only appear as URLs, both on Chrome and Internet Explorer.

When I graduated from college, my oldest sister, who had heard all my complaints for four years, made me a cake. On it she wrote the word, WHEW! That said it all. She was glad I graduated, but tired of hearing about it.

and no, DC press NEVER mentions GOP blocking vet aid $$$$ this yr when covering the VA story– wrong narrative.

    • May 27, 2014 at 9:20 am

TOD regulars know I listen to CBS radio news, and this morning at the 8 o’clock hour (EDT) they reported on Veterans who are challenging the Republican chair of the House Arms Services Committee*, saying that they support President Obama and want a response from Congresscritters who opposed adequate funding of the VA (!).

Did pigs fly an hour ago?

This was to be the lead story this hour, but suspiciously, when they said, “Let’s turn to Vicki Barker for more this story,” there was no report, so they moved on to the rest of the news:

      – Isla Vista rampage (FYI, local vigils are the top news on @knx1070 radio — both in my town and at UCLA)
      – Michelle Obama is moving beyond the lighter touch (i.e., Muppets) and will respond today on a**hole GOP who want waivers for schools who claim a net loss on FLOTUS’ Healthy Eating food program (what is *wrong* with these GOP idiots — why are they against healthy children???)
      – Grand Mesa Colorado landslide
      – Pope Francis breaking new ground in establishing rules for Bishops accused of child molestation or its cover up (does this apply to Cardinals as well? Roger Mahoney was the Los Angeles Archbishop when a lot of child abuse took place.)
      – Fire at Israel’s Grotto of the Nativity (revered by Christians as Jesus’ birthplace) which apparently is administered by Palestinians, who say the fire was an accident. This site was visited by Pope Francis on the same day that our President was in Afghanistan (two days ago, on Saturday).

Two pro-Obama (both POTUS and FLOTUS) in one three minute segment! Wow.

      * I’m a bit confused as to which Rep the Veterans are going after. I thought I heard “Republican chair of the House Arms Services Committee” but Google tells me that is Buck McKeon, a local congresscritter, and that’s not the name I heard on the radio).

Arapaho, lots of interesting news here. The R’s will go after healthy eating for children because the hope any attack on FLOTUS will hurt the president. They are nothing, if not consistent in their hatred.

      • May 27, 2014 at 10:10 am

Good morning, Arapaho. I think you may be referring to Sen. Richard Burr, Republican from N.C. He’s a ranking member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Lots of VA groups are infuriated at the cheap shots he’s been taking at Sec. Shinseki.

        • May 27, 2014 at 10:35 am

          Yes, Meta, thank you.

As you know, it’s still early on the west coast and I was puttering around and thought I heard Congress, when in fact the target is Senator Richard Burr.

So glad that CBS is offsetting chickenhawk GOP lies with POVs from people who fought the actual fight for our country.

CBS radio news aired a soundbite from a Paralyzed Veterans of America spokesman who reminded listeners that the VA has been underfunded by the GOP-controlled House.

          Think about these voices.

Paralyzed Veterans of America is a heartbreaking organization. These Americans enthusiastically volunteered for the military-industrial-complex wars which were demanded by neo-con chickenhawks and criminally authorized by Bush/Cheney only to return to the US permanently maimed.

          Heartwrenchingly agonizing.

I am certain that the GOP will Not win the Senate.
The only uncertainty is how big the democratic margin will be.

I understand why the narrative pounds on GOP winning. Voters want to be on the winning side.

The day before the 2010 election the democratic head of the congressional campaign committee, Chris Van Hollen was on MSNBC assuring democratic voters that he likes our chances. We lost about 60 house seats the next day. My point is—what else can a party’s leader say or do?

And Chuck Todd works for the Corporate Interest Party. That’s who pays hhim.

Just went to their twitter page, but the first tweet in their timeline was a retweet of a useless tweet that says women reach their peak beauty at 23.

I think a lot of older beauties (and men who love women) would disagree.

Absolutely HATE this kind of lie that makes women feel bad about themselves.

That is a pretty stupid comment. For one, it implies there is only one kind of beauty (which even if there was, the statement would still be ludicrous). Secondly, it also implies there is a very strict definition of what that beauty is.

My wife, at 66, is just as beautiful as she was at 26 when I married her. But it is a totally different kind of beauty. And in many ways, a far superior type of beauty.

The head of France’s main opposition party is to resign after allegations of party funding fraud in 2012 and a poor showing at the European elections.

Jean-Francois Cope, who stood for the leadership of the UMP in 2012 in a bitter fight that divided the party, will step down next month.

The allegations relate to Nicolas Sarkozy’s failed campaign for re-election as president.

They could derail his bid for a return in 2017, a BBC correspondent says.

The “newest one” grabbed my heart on the Humane site. She is 8, blind, somewhere between Cairn Terrier and Yorki, and true to a terror she drives me crazy. I’m so use to my 2 bischons, who enjoy the sofa 48 hrs a day. Maddie the newest, acts as tho shes not more then 3 months old, shoes, paper, poop, barks, and dogs ears are fair game. Oh and my cat is no more then a chew toy. Its a hard life, for we the “owners” much hope for a more mature tomorrow.

I had an extremely busy weekend and was way behind in most news and was unable to stiop by here, so this may already have been posted. But Charles Pierce was on top of his game yesterday writing in response to the CA shooting. These two excerpts say it all, when talking about a country at war with itself.

This is a country at war with itself for profit. This is a country at war with itself because its ruling elite is too cowed, or too well-bribed, or too cowardly to recognize that there are people who are getting rich arming both sides, because the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, so you make sure that it’s easy for the bad guys to get guns in order to make millions selling the guns to the good guys….

So that is Memorial Day this year, in a country in which its citizens are encouraged to make war on each other because not enough people care enough to stop it. There are more flowers in more places and there is no peace in sight, because we have chosen as a country to slake our appetite for it with blood. The dead are not honored in this war. Only the instrumentality of their murder is, god help us all.

    May Release: 58.4 Consensus: 55.0 April: 55.0

U.S. service activity hit a two-year high in May, according to data from Markit Economics. “The survey should help alleviate concerns that the first quarter slowdown reflected underlying sluggishness in the US economy,” Markit’s Tim Moore said in a release.

With ACA premium cost trending down, More folks trying to start their own businesses, Baby Boomers retiring at 10K daily, 4M job openings, UE Rate at below 6.3%, Dow at record highs, Insurance Companies returned over $1.2B to Folks, Deficit sliced in Half, etc…….

Last week I complained about NPR. Now this morning it has a blurb from some idiot couple that bought insurance for the pregnant wife; they claim none of the OBs on some list would accept their policy. The story had many, many words of complaining from the husband but only one sentence from someone who called all the providers they researched and most said the OB accepts their policy. Huh? I don’t call this balanced coverage because the ‘other side’ was just one sentence. I’ve listened to NPR for almost 40 years but I’m done with it. Could anyone suggest a progressive radio station they like? I listen online anyway so I don’t care what state it is in. Muchas gracias.
