Good morning. The sun is once again shining on this Memorial Day. Yesterday voters in Ukrainian overcame enormous barriers and threats to vote for their new government. Most voters in the US just have to roust themselves to get down to their polling places on election day. Let’s make sure we help people to care as much as the Ukrainians. Let’s make this summer the start of the push to get the highest mid-term Dem turnout ever. We owe it to those we honor today. We owe it to our president. And we owe it to ourselves and our children.

Anjou, I know what you mean. But I made a vow this winter not to complain about the summer heat.
I see that I am going to wish I never made that vow. It is going to be very hard to keep.
There are only two seasons now……Very Hot and Very Cold.
I used to pack clothes away from season to season. Now, my closets are divided into Hot and Cold. Every day you make wake up to a record high or record low in the same week.
Spring and Fall last only a week or two and then it’s BAM! In your face……
Texas and California droughts are surreal.
How can people not believe something drastically is changing is beyond me?
Okay. It is too early to get a stroke. Time for me to go walking, for real this time.
    Good day everyone!

Frankly, LDS, I dread the summer. At my age, I find I have less and less tolerance for high humidity and relentless sum. Can’t tell you how much I dislike the idea of having to stay indoors all summer. And we have important things to do this year–voters to contact, information to get out. Hope we get some breaks.

So I came across some comments last night which said the troops didn’t want to see him, meaning the President over there. My response were you don’t speak for every soldier over there and from looking at how eager they were to shake the President’s hand and take a picture with him, it sure look like alot of them were glad to see him. And this picture is more proof. I am not foolish enough to think that every soldier like our President, but I also am not foolish enough to fall for you right right haters B.S. They appreciated his visit yesterday.

        May 26, 2014 at 9:32 am

AB, a lot of the comments like that are sour grapes because they know how popular our president really is, although they try to deny it.
But, in the end, it doesn’t matter. President Barack Obama is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and he can visit any troops he wishes at any time. It is not up to an individual armed services member, who has taken an oath to defend his/her country, to decide whether or not the likes the current Commander in Chief. So anyone who complains can just STFU.

If you are a white teenager and you kill a bunch of people you will never get called a thug, a thug is reserved for those blacks that do more heinous crimes like stealing or selling drugs. Paul Mooney does a comedy routine about white and blacks doing the same crime but with different results. A white guy will kill a bunch of people and everybody will ask why wasn’t that person treated for a mental illness, a black guy kills one person and everyone’s understanding goes out the window.

A painful reality in this society that too many who could do something about it (including some in SCOTUS) pretend not to see.

      • 31 jackiegrumbacher
        May 26, 2014 at 9:02 am

Unfortunately, Dudette, not only does SCOTUS do nothing about it, the right wing justices actually reinforce this attitude with the failure to acknowledge that racism is even an issue. It will be a joyous day when one of the wingers resigns. I have my list of favorites, starting with Scalia.

Don you are so right! I also notice that the “Asperger’s Syndrome” diagnosis almost always comes up when an affluent white male commits an atrocity. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought that Asperger’s Syndrome was invented just to keep white male criminals from being held accountable for their behavior. Then we get loads of stories about how the perpetrator had the most horrible, terrible childhood of bullying and feeling ostracized…

So I have to ask a couple questions:

      1. Is there any adult on this planet who can honestly say that they were never bullied, teased, taunted, harassed, or felt ostracized at one point or another during their childhood? I wager very few can. Very few.

      2. How many of us can say that we heard “Asperger’s Syndrome” mentioned in the media or elsewhere when a Black, Latino or individual of Muslim faith commit a murder/crime? Heck even when Black youth are victims, and not perpetrators of crimes, their “criminality” is brought to the forefront by our dear media… Playing loud music, wearing a hoodie, loitering in the street are all serious crimes that Black youth commit and they are hailed as “thugs” by the media. But when you are white and you pre-meditatively shoot and kill 6 people (with the intention of shooting and killing as many as you can), you are hailed as a “brilliant” but “tragically disturbed kid” by our dear media….

Lovely photo, Dudette. My husband’s parents were/are still World War II vets. My FIL was an army captain; MIL (still living) was a WAVE–part of the first group. In the last year of the war, those who had served since the beginning were allowed to go home. My FIL, who was unmarried at the time, asked that those men with families go home before him so they could be reunited. He then served until VE day.

Huffington Poop has an article about Dems up for election in 2014 deciding whether or not to embrace Obamacare. I can’t figure out if these people are stupid or deliberately throwing their races. (Alison Grimes, Michelle Nunn, John Walsh, Natalie Tennant, et cetera.

Here is what I do know: Insurance companies think that 8+ Million private healthcare enrolees is an Unqualified Success and many of them are expanding their coverage into other states. The estimates for the next round beginning in Novemeber say the number will expand to more than 13 Million.

WTF is going on with the reluctant democrats?
Why can’t they see that America loves Winners? America votes for winners.
    Obamacare is a Giant Win.
Embrace it, campaign on it and you will win too.

    • 65 anniebella
      May 26, 2014 at 9:26 am

It seem the evil Koch Brothers and the Republicans have those Dems shaking in their booths. Any time someone go negative with Obamacare, they should go positive, because their are lots of positive stories out there if the Dems would use them. They have them so frighten of being tied to President Obama. But I guess this is the road they choose to take in order to try and win and we do need them to win.

      • 66 derbingleguy
        May 26, 2014 at 9:38 am

I think that’s a great point anniebella. My problem is they take it to new levels of stupid and denial to the point you can’t take them seriously and they wind up losing anyway.

Grimes is a perfect example. She’s is making it easy for McConnell to steal Obamacare right out from under her. If she can’t campaign on the fact that the uninsured rate in her state has been cut by 40% thanks to the Democratic party then she’s going lose in November. Jack Conway in 2010 ran the same type of “I’m not with them” campaign against Rand Paul. How’d that turn out?

    • 67 hopefruit2
      May 26, 2014 at 9:31 am

I am very suspicious of these reports because I strongly believe that they are mostly the media’s doing. The Dems are not running away from Obamacare – the media takes their words out of context and runs with it. If you notice, there is almost ZERO talk in the media about Republicans. It’s all about Dems and what they are or aren’t doing. And usually there is an anti-Obama spin. This is an attempt to get Democrats angry and keep them at home not wanting to vote for these candidates. The media’s biggest nightmare right now would be for Mitch McConnell to lose his Senate Seat. So watch them go after Grimes – even if it means painting her as Obama’s biggest enemy on the planet (which she isn’t).

Bottom line: All these “Dems-running-away-from-ACA” stories are B.S. It’s the media is campaigning HARD for the GOP because they are losing.

Maybe the others but I’m hard pressed to say the same thing applies to Grimes.

AllisonForKY will learn soon, or she will LOSE. A few days ago, she tweeted calling for the VA Sec’y’s resignation, and her TL was filled with negative responses. Her last two tweets since then have focused solely on Turtle Mitch.

Terry McAuliffe learned a similar lesson last year. Diss the Obama’s at your own risk.

        • 70 hopefruit2
          May 26, 2014 at 10:00 am

One more thing… I’m sure that Ms. Grimes noticed that her tweet calling for the VA sec’s resignation only got 38 re-tweets where as her tweet attacking turtle Mitch got 181 re-tweets. If she has a brain, she will learn. If she doesn’t, then perhaps we don’t need her in the Senate.

Well hopefruit2, I will let you know if Sen. Kay Hagan runs away from President Obama and Obamacare in her campaign against Tom Tillis. Here in N.C someone supporting Tillis already they have a ad up were POTUS is saying “If you want your insurance you can kept it.”
