I don’t know this was already posted this here since it was published yesterday, but it is an EXCELLENT article, written by a Vet. A must-read!

TITLE: The VA Scandal, More Of The Same

// On this Memorial Day weekend, you may, if you like, picture me making the “I’m shocked, shocked I tell you!” face. So there’s chicanery and malfeasance in the Veterans Administration, is there? The VA hospital in Phoenix diddled the books, did they? Administrators shuffled ailing vets into secret waiting lists, delaying medical treatment for months, maybe years, in order to pump up the hospital’s stats and make it look like they were meeting the goals established by President Obama for prompt service…

…Now after more than a decade of war, after many decades of endless lines and endless bean-counters and endless delays and endless waits and endless lost records and the endlessly misplaced paperwork and the endless institutionalized incompetence and the endless excuses and the endless unending VA shuffle, now you’re upset?

After five years of an intransigent, deadlocked, do-nothing Congress who’d rather chase hysterical manufactured conspiracies and beat their fleshy chests in faux-patriotic fever, who’ll enthusiastically fork over hundreds of billions for fancy new jets and ships and tanks so long as that hardware is manufactured in their own districts, who drive past homeless needy vets every single day, and gleefully refuse to pass a veterans jobs bill or to fully fund veterans services in their own districts or any other, after five years of this capering self-serving congressional bullshit, now you’re pissed off? Now you want blood? Now you want an accounting?

…Here’s the thing: speaking from personal experience, the truly ironic part here is that the VA of today, the VA under Eric Shinseki and Barack Obama, is orders of magnitude better than it has ever been. Ever. Under any administration. Over the last five years, things have steadily improved. They’re a long way from perfect but they’re a long long way from what they were when this war began thirteen years ago. Most of the peeling paint and the mildew and the banal uninterested bureaucracy is gone, not all but most of it… //

I posted it at the end of the last thread hf – well worth repeating – on rise and shine as well. I liked this part

“Ask yourself something, if Congress really cared about veterans, I mean if they were really as concerned as they purport to be, then why was this brought to the public’s attention via a half-assed tabloid news outfit like CNN instead of the House Armed Services Committee? How come they didn’t know? How come it wasn’t veteran senator John McCain, since this happened in his district? When was the last time Arizona Senator Jeff Flake checked his email? Arizona has nine Representatives in their House delegation, four republicans and five democrats, so where were they? Veterans in Arizona have been complaining to them for years about these problems. I guess they were too busy with Benghazi and birth certificates and the definition of marriage and shutting down the government to notice. “

Sen John McCain who wants to go to war every time a gun is fired anywhere in the world – where was he in helping the vets?

It can’t be repeated enough. If you have FB he is fun to follow. He posts almost every day.

Another “honey of a day” here in Illinois—-as my dad would have described it—-perfecto!
Sad to see news of another mass shooting—–last night near UC-Santa Barbara—–sounds senseless, as usual—–at least 7 dead, 7 injured—–some nut shooting out of a car at people at outside cafes etc. Police investigating if linked to posted vid titled “Retribution of Elliot Rodgers”——which seemed to be about getting even about his rejection by girls. Good reason.

Good Morning Chips and TOD friends.

    • May 24, 2014 at 9:21 am

      OMG, dotster.

Just woke up to the horrible news from Goleta (I’m in the county just south of SB, in a less populated area than LA, so we truly feel like Santa Barbarans are our neighbors, lots of UCSB alumni here). Example — there’s a weekend shuttle to Santa Barbara here for $4 one way — SB is so walkable, bicyclable, a great, cheap escape).

Americans need to wake up to the fact that we must DO something to make it harder for enraged/sadistic/suicidal, etc. people to do this.

Hate to see the promise of so many cheerful young souls be ended or damaged.

Shock and outrage on my part.

Super busy day for me, will check back with TODville later.

News like this prompts me to say: Love to everyone in this pacific community.

Good BEAUTIFUL early Sunday morning to you 99ts! -in your world : )
Hope you have a WONDERFULLY GOOD TIME with your little darling.

Happy Memorial Day weekend to you and your family. Sending positive thoughts and good wishes, hoping that things have been resolved or being resolved from your previous family challenges, and that those who needed healing are on their way to being healed, and you can say; this too has passed.

Be safe and have a blessed and beautiful weekend.

All is much better – thank you Cindy – and enjoy your weekend. We have our equivalent of memorial day on April 25 – commemorates a losing battle in WWI – we also have a lessor event on November 11 (armistice day).

I had to look up your Memorial Day & find that it started as a memorial to those who died in the civil war – so it goes back a long way.

    good morning TOD.
All of us believe that 2014 is the election we need to focus on. We want to give our President a congress that will work with him for the good of the America people.

This morning the urgency of 2014 became even clearer to me.

If Michelle Nunn (D) of GA, Natalie Tennant (D) WVA and Alison Grimes (D) KY are running away from Obamacare and they think that is a strategy that will win for them we all need to think about what their message is.

I’ll spare you the complicated figuring but here is my message: Jeb Bush will be the next president if our candidate is Hillary.

If Joe Biden, Martin O’Malley, Wendy, Elizabeth, Julian, Bill de Blasio, even the loathsome Andrew Cuomo—if any of them are our candidate we will win.

      Good morning Vicki,
Happy Memorial Day weekend to you.

Pretty soon, what the Dems are running from, the same lying pathetic repukes will be running on; Obamacare, and when they finish with their vociferous voices, one will be left to believe that the repukes gave them Obamacare and the Dems tried to repeal it 50 times.

They (repukes) get out front and repeat the same lie, even if they disagree with each other because a lie left unchallenged becomes truth by default.

The Dems have so much to run on because of President Obama’s hard work. This is stupidity that causes voters to sit home during midterm elections; chicken little hiding in the coups.

We should all bombard these Dems who are running away from the President and Obamacare with tweets, emails, letters, and calls. Dems are always slow to learn even when things are sitting in their laps.

      GEESH! : (
