Happy sunny Sunday morning to all. I don’t know how many states have their primaries on Tuesday, but to those that do, Good Luck! Our choices can make the difference between winning and losing in November. Let’s get some good fighters on our tickets.

here is why corporate clinton is a no, no.

Multinationals have a new scheme to avoid paying taxes. And they’ve enlisted Bill Clinton, the Big Dawg himself, to help sell it. The question is whether Americans are getting wise to the con.

    He is already cutting deals.

OK, so Rove/Clinton kerfuffle should be all but over and the American Spring has sputtered—–What will this week bring in Not The News?

I’ve been hearing about Clinton deals and assurances with big business for a month or so. and let’s be clear – the mega rich got a lot richer because of policies and bills that Bill Clinton championed. Hillary better not think that she can get away with “I should not be judged by my husband’s policies 20 years ago.” We need to know how she feels about Gramm-Leach-Bliley (Bill Clinton, Gingrich and Gramm met in the afternoons after impeachment hearings/trial in the a.m. to plot the destruction of the American economy); Telecom Bill (that gave the airwaves to the RW), welfare ‘reform’. And my newest ‘discovery’ that gets no press: The Religious Freedom ‘Restoration’ Act: this lowered the bar for what people could do in the name of ‘religious freedom’. It is the basis of pharmacists refusing to administer birth control; and it is the second leg of the Hobby Lobby suit. People think it’s Citizens United only (“corporations are people”) but it’s not. This bill, signed into law by Bill Clinton (and I don’t remember ANY time he took issue with it) may be the unraveling of the separation of church and state, and the rights of individuals (now that corporations are ‘people’) to put their religious views over the rights of their employees, customers, etc.

Does Hillary support those positions? Is anybody going to ask?!? Or is the loony left going to do what it always does – pick one issue as if that’s the only issue – and pound it to death? Public option – if there wasn’t a public option, nothing good would come out of ACA. Keystone XL – if PBO supports it, then everything else good that the has done to the environment doesn’t matter.

The Clintons are only progressive when they campaign. Does Hillary support the policies and laws that Bill Clinton is responsible for that have ruined our economy, our democracy and our Constitution? Is anyone going to ask?

Nope, none of these critical issues will be raised by both right and left. The wingers will attack her personally and as usual, the left will fight a rearguard defense of her and the chaff will win over the substance.

        May 18, 2014 at 9:44 am

I doubt anyone will ask Billary anything substantive. What is her platform????
        Nobody knows.
        Vague things about women.

I want the strongest Progressive president we can get to continue PBO’s work. Gender is unimportant.
If First Woman President is the platform—well, let me off at the closest station. (Yes, if Hill is the dem candidate i will vote for her)

          May 18, 2014 at 9:56 am

My fear is that the Clintons will take that terrifyingly comfortable racist/entitled stance they took against PBO and be more interested in getting big business and racist white working people than they are in the Obama coalition. They figure the blacks and liberals will vote for her no matter what because the alternative is too horrible to imagine. And then be comfortable in their RW world where they really live.

In 2007/2008, it became clear to me that Hillary Clinton was nothing more than a myth that had been carefully created. She had an opportunity to recognize greatness in PBO and at least rise to the occasion to exhibit her own greatness. Instead her instinct was to crawl into the gutter and she was terrifyingly comfortable there. She was undistinguished as SoS (she will blame PBO for that, because crafting the myth is the only thing the Clintons are good at. They are not concerned about the good of the country or the good of the people – their ambition is ALL.

Why Is ABC Trying To Turn The V.A. Scandal Into Another #Benghazi?

    By Tommy Christopher

At Friday’s White House Daily Briefing, ABC News’ Jon Karl used false assertions to attack the White House over its support of Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki, a dreadful echo of Karl’s conduct regarding Benghazi.

Is he trying to turn the V.A. scandal into another #Benghazi-style clown show?
Later in the briefing, Fox News’ Ed Henry badgered Carney about why President Obama hasn’t spoken publicly about the issue since he first announced the investigation two weeks ago, a ballsy move considering that Henry’s own network falsely reported that the President hadn’t spoken publicly about it at all.

Yes, AB, but the number of horses and their asses is pretty large. Since there are only horse’s asses in the front row of the WHPC, there must be a stable of them nearby.

I have a theory about why the VA situation is coming up now but it would be too long and boring to detail here.

The short version is that in the entirety of his Presidency Barack Obama has made the military a priority and ENTIRELY supplanted the old notion that the GOP is the military-friendly party.

Service members know who loves them and who only pretends to care. They know who stopped the horrific Stop-Loss policies and who compensated those victimized by the GOP.
Service members know which party is eager to pay for proper protections equipment and which party is fine with sending young folks under-protected into the battlefield.

The Military knows which party effectively ended 9/11 by sending OBL to a watery grave.
Which party ended DADT. Which party is seeking justice and safety against sexual assualt.

Attacking the VA now is a pre-election ploy to win back military votes.
      It will fail.
It will fail because it is as empty as the GOP shrieking “support our troops” while they do the exact opposite.

Swiss voters have rejected a proposal to introduce what would be the highest minimum wage in the world in a referendum, first projections indicate.

    head, meet desk.

“Last February the Swiss backed restrictions on bosses’ bonuses, but in November they rejected even stricter controls which would have limited top salaries to no more than 12 times that of the lowest paid.

The vote is a sign that Switzerland’s long tradition of social partnership between business leaders and workers may be eroding: the bankruptcy of national airline Swissair over a decade ago, the disastrous losses suffered by the big Swiss banks in the subprime mortgage scandal, and the huge salaries and bonuses which continue to be paid in the banking and pharmaceutical industries have led many Swiss to lose trust in their business leaders. ”

And then they punch themselves in their own faces. / smh

I’m very sorry to hear that Swiss voters rejected the higher minimum wage, AMK. They could have had a positive influence on the whole world with such a move, but they seem to have shied away from doing something bold. I had a conversation with a Swiss couple once and they said the Swiss vote on just about everything so maybe this wage hike proposal will be introduced again.

Found this interesting—–the history and story of the 16 yr. old U.S. tennis phenom, Francis Tiafoe——–growing up, with his twin brother, at the College Park elite tennis center where their dad, an immigrant from Sierra Leone, was a maintenance worker—–living in a small spare room there, sleeping on the massage tables. Started playing tennis when he was a wee tot—–the facilities were right there where he lived—–and won his first big tourney when he was 9——getting lots of attention as he appears to be ready to be the next big hope for U.S. mens’ tennis. Noted that now in their modest apartment, included in the photos of family displayed are one of President Obama and First Lady on Inauguration Day.

For those following the PA governor’s race, the last poll before Tuesday, conducted by Muhlenberg, has Tom Wolf at 37 percent; Allyson Schwartz at 14 percent; Rob McCord at 9 percent; and Katy McGinty at 5 percent. When “leaners” are added in Wolf’s numbers jump to 41 percent and Schwartz’s to 16. Unless no one shows up on Tuesday or Democratic voters fall into a coma, I don’t think anyone can beat Wolf’s double digit lead, which has remained fairly consistent for months. He came on early with tv advertising and showed himself to be a likeable guy and that was all it took. After Tuesday, my focus will be on making sure we beat that jackass Corbett so that he never again resurfaces in politics. He can scoop up his Koch brothers money and go home and count it as long as I never have to see his face again. By the way, the number one issue among Dem primary voters is EDUCATION, since Corbett has decimated the schools and radically, recklessly and repeatedly cut schools funds.
