Josh Lederman seems very content covering PBO on this trip 🙂 And I think he’s been doing a fine job all afternoon and evening – no snide remarks; no underhanded jabs at the President ala Markknoller…

For all that some WHPC complain, they’re getting it world’s better under President Obama than GWB. They spend their summers in Martha’s Vineyard and winters in Hawaii. Plus, wonderful international trips.

The domestic time they had with GWB was that ranch he bought in Crawford, TX so he could fool himself into thinking he was an actual cowboy. Hawaii or that? Yeah, I know which spot I’d choose.

Indeed chips. And if you notice, unlike Lederman, Knoller almost NEVER tweets about the perks afforded the WHPC who cover the President or VP – instead he’s always framing it as though PBO or VP are the ones selfishly wasting taxpayer money on frivolous stuff, holding up traffic, or causing the WHPC a lot of hassle. Nerdy Wonka also mentioned the trips to Hawaii or Martha’s Vineyard or abroad, and yet the WHPC are always complaining on Twitter that they’re tired, jet-lagged, or whatever crap they can report to incite their fellow ‘bagger followers.

D’oh! RT @aterkel: Here’s a NYT editorial from April criticizing the White House for its gender pay gap http://nyti.ms/1jIZ12q

    • May 14, 2014 at 9:28 pm

NerdyW posted this on the last thread, which is definitely a BAM! towards Ezra Klein and his toxic wife Annie Lowrey (of the NYT, who constantly harps on the Obama Adm on gender-equality for the IMPORTANT stuff [yeah, right, about PBO’s golf partners — exactly ZERO previous Presidents were questioned about who their golfing buddies were, why would PBO be different? (snark)].

@davidfolkenflik says that Dean Baquet was top editor at the LATimes (which I recall as well) — not sure how “top editor” differs from NYT Executive Editor, but it’s clear that Mr. Baquet has been the top editor at another newspaper in this country.

The media loves reporting on the media, so will have a field day with today’s events, which were handled very poorly by Arthur Sulzberger.

The bottom line is that the NYT are a bunch of hypocrites (or at least the people who draw up editor’s contracts are) and this is not the first time Dean Baquet has been the top editor of a major US newspaper.

The dems could have done better by framing the crumbling infrastructure as a national security issue.

    • 41 99ts
      May 14, 2014 at 9:25 pm

Wouldn’t matter how they framed it – the GOP would say NO. PBO should have said “we don’t need no damned infrastructure” – then watch McCain scream for infrastructure on the Sunday shows.

This is about appealing to the voters, not the gnoppers. And it happens to be true unlike the fake national security issues that rethugs spin all the time.

Remember this morning, I think it was Hopefruit who posted this tweet from Jonathon Alter- well I asked him a question about it and he responded.. thought you all would like to see this:

    Jonathan Alter
    @jonathanalter

The reason HRC is highly likely to run is that she wants to live to see the first woman prez and knows she’s the best shot for that. – 14 May

    sherijr

@jonathanalter wait, is that something she told you.. or are you giving your opinion? – 14 May

    Jonathan Alter
@sherijr it’s my analysis based on covering her for years. Not a recent interview.

The reason I asked this of him, is that- though I am not a fan of Hillary Clinton’s – I am definitely not a believer in our media’s ‘facts’… they just say stuff and to often we believe them if they’re commenting on someone we don’t trust, respect or like… I am of the belief that this media we have now, will and do lie about everyone.. either by fabrication or by omission. In this case Jonathon Alter basically pulled his ‘tweet’ out of his imaginary ass.

    • 57 sherijr
      May 14, 2014 at 9:27 pm

My response to his response just now was: Thank you for responding Jonathan, though I think it would be better to actually ask this question of Hillary and hear what she has to say.

    • 58 99ts
      May 14, 2014 at 9:29 pm

      Interesting – thanks sherijr

“not a recent interview” – is this to make folks think there was a “past interview” where this was discussed? They still want their fans to think they are “in the know”

      • 59 sherijr
        May 14, 2014 at 9:30 pm

well he actually discounts his “recent interview” comment by stating that it’s his analysis. So which is it Jonathan?

I trust nothing they say, anymore.

      • 60 sherijr
        May 14, 2014 at 9:31 pm

and cute how he avoids the word that I used “opinion” by stating “analysis” instead. As if that makes it okay that he basically put words in Hillary’s mouth.

          May 14, 2014 at 9:38 pm

this is why I don’t follow any media at all- I’d be tweeting them all day long 🙂 🙂 One thing about Alter, he does respond… years back during the ’08 campaign he was on tv (back when I watched tv) and he defended Michelle Obama’s speech- about being “proud”.. I emailed him that I appreciated what he said.. and he responded back very kindly. However, it is really intolerable of any media to just make these sort of statements as if they’ve got some inside track to a person’s thoughts.

            May 14, 2014 at 9:47 pm

seriously what if we all framed things this way… well my analysis is… (insert hogwash here)…

    • May 14, 2014 at 10:47 pm

      Yup.

National MSM political reporting staff are apparently paid for their speculation, not to uncover and report facts.

      They are pretty much worthless.

Political reporters for local newspapers do actual reporting. Unfortunately, these reporters are often the first that newspapers lay off. San Francisco has no reporters in Sacramento to follow what’s going on there. And California is something like the 9th largest economy, but the heart of Silicon Valley can’t afford a reporter to cover what’s happening politically to our state.

    Good Evening TODVille,

I had a follow up visit today (6 months post bone marrow transplant) and am proud to report that the doctor was ecstatic. So was I. I made so much progress that she lifted the no-travel ban. She was surprised that I could lay down and get up ALL BY MYSELF like the big girl I am. I am grateful to God and to all friends here and elsewhere that said a little prayer on my behalf. It’s only with God’s help that I can be here today, having resumed work for 3 months now, and back to driving.

On a different note, I don’t know if it is politically correct to speak of Rachel Maddow. But I admire her research and the fact that she speaks of things that I would never know nor learn from anyone else. Tonight is a follow up of Teabaggers trying to extort money from their republican brethren to stay off primary ballots. This is scandalous. Yet again, I should not be surprised because the GOTP these days will stoop to any level to win an election.

Now onto my favorite topic. Governor Chris Christie, the one and only. The savior of the GOP who was going to walk from NJ to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave to save the United States. Yes, that Chris Christie, the head of Bridgegate, the bully who uses all at his disposal to get rid of rivals. He can keep pretending that he is a candidate for 2016. He will only land on Ed Schultz’s Pretenders’ List.

Back when I lived DownUnda, 99ts, one of the most popular adverts was “Feed The Man Meat”! I’m sure you’ll remember that! To this day, much as I love Aussie-isms, that slogan was just too odd!

The beef industry – didn’t like that people started eating green. It’s like “real men don’t eat quiche” which used to be popular.

It’s taking a long time to “humanize” Oz men – fortunately the only ones left beating the superiority of muscle over brain have little of the latter.

I do remember that, and then later, over here, Real Men Eat Quiche caught on and was very popular. I am a little too aware of Aussie men and their a-hem, characteristics (my daughter’s father, eg), but am hearing of a disturbing level of domestic violence, brutal in many cases, which I was not aware was a factor in life back then. But maybe it’s getting exposure now?

It was always there Pamela – “domestics” were never investigated or prosecuted in my youth. Most violent crimes are still between people known to each other – and there still isn’t enough prosecution until someone dies.

      NCLB,

How wonderful for you that your doctor was ecstatic.

And so were you, and so is the TOD family.

So glad that your treatment worked and you’re fully on the road to recovery.

I’ve haven’t watched much recently, but I think Rachel has toned down her emoprog attacks from the likes of Jeremy Scahill (who is also part of that $250 million package that @Pierre handed over to GG), which most in TODville clicked off.

Those reports were infuriating. But I’ve seen others here agree (e.g., 99ts) that Rachel is the only true investigative journalist on national TV on a daily basis.

I haven’t been online much the last few days, so I don’t know how TOD reacted to the gag-worthy news that the movie rights to GG’s book has been picked up by producers known for James Bond flicks.

Makes me sick. GG makes me sick. First he gets $250 million for basically doing nothing but promote his gag-worthy book, and now this.

However, after a year, it seems some DC beltway types are finally acknowledging GG’s egomania:

And this from GG cheerleader, staunch libertarian; he’s still a GG cheerleader, so don’t bother clicking on the link — but maybe GG will start calling Jack Shafer “odious.”

Extracting water for human activities is increasing the number of small earthquakes being triggered in California.

A new study suggests that the heavy use of ground water for pumping and irrigation is causing mountains to lift and valleys to subside.

The scientists say this depletion of the water is increasing seismic activity along the San Andreas fault.

They worry that over time this will hasten the occurrence of large quakes.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-27393811

    Solution? Drink wine. (uugghh)

    • May 14, 2014 at 10:10 pm

Great, just what Cali needs is a major earthquake on the San Andreas fault with wild fires burning west of that fault.

This article appears to be talking about Central California, which is not a major population center (although Fresno is a pretty busy town).

We’ve been saying all winter that climate change is here now. In mid-May we’ve had two heat waves and the conditions of the vegetation is not Spring-like, but rather reminds me of the desert live oak forests in New Mexico — leaves covered with dust because it’s been so long since it last rained — here leaves are covered in dust kicked up by the unrelenting Santa Ana winds.

Game of Thrones author George RR Martin has explained why he does all his writing on an obsolete disk operating system (DOS) computer – because it does not correct his spelling.

He said he did not want a modern PC that amended his writing as he typed.

The writer of the books on which the TV series is based first revealed he used the archaic system in 2011.

Speaking on US chat show Conan on Tuesday, he said he kept a second computer for browsing the internet.

He said he never feared a virus infecting his computer and deleting his work because he had a “secret weapon”.

Somewhat of a challenge, since many modern-day words don’t quite translate! Love how they’re considering making Pope Francis tweets in Latin fit the vernacular of people like “Plautus or Terentius, the two great Latin comedians,” for the benefit of Latin scholars, etc. (which would not be me, for sure). Obama’s life tonight give him an even greater gift of measured grace to give a restfulness of peace, truth, and compassion to those families, friends, and our nation as he performs his duties as our President and CIC during the ceremonies tomorrow. May wisdom and grace be your guiding light, Mr. President. May you and our First Lady give strength to each other during these times.

Blessings to this TOD family. Thank you, Chips for this beautiful and serious space and your unwavering support and respect to President Barack H. Obama.. You are a true and brilliant vessel of goodness to all of us. I love you. I appreciate you for being in my life daily. HZ.
