Josh Lederman seems very content covering PBO on this trip 🙂 And I think he’s been doing a fine job all afternoon and evening – no snide remarks; no underhanded jabs at the President ala Markknoller…
For all that some WHPC complain, they’re getting it world’s better under President Obama than GWB. They spend their summers in Martha’s Vineyard and winters in Hawaii. Plus, wonderful international trips.
The domestic time they had with GWB was that ranch he bought in Crawford, TX so he could fool himself into thinking he was an actual cowboy. Hawaii or that? Yeah, I know which spot I’d choose.
Indeed chips. And if you notice, unlike Lederman, Knoller almost NEVER tweets about the perks afforded the WHPC who cover the President or VP – instead he’s always framing it as though PBO or VP are the ones selfishly wasting taxpayer money on frivolous stuff, holding up traffic, or causing the WHPC a lot of hassle. Nerdy Wonka also mentioned the trips to Hawaii or Martha’s Vineyard or abroad, and yet the WHPC are always complaining on Twitter that they’re tired, jet-lagged, or whatever crap they can report to incite their fellow ‘bagger followers.
Did anyone watch Frontline’s “United States of Secrets” last night? OMG, what a clown show. Making Snowden look like a hero? Giving GG the spotlight? UGH.
NerdyW posted this on the last thread, which is definitely a BAM! towards Ezra Klein and his toxic wife Annie Lowrey (of the NYT, who constantly harps on the Obama Adm on gender-equality for the IMPORTANT stuff [yeah, right, about PBO’s golf partners — exactly ZERO previous Presidents were questioned about who their golfing buddies were, why would PBO be different? (snark)].
NYT has black exec editor. WaPo has black managing ed. LAT editor born in Trinidad. Meanwhile, have Vox/538 hired a single black person yet?
@davidfolkenflik says that Dean Baquet was top editor at the LATimes (which I recall as well) — not sure how “top editor” differs from NYT Executive Editor, but it’s clear that Mr. Baquet has been the top editor at another newspaper in this country.
The media loves reporting on the media, so will have a field day with today’s events, which were handled very poorly by Arthur Sulzberger.
The bottom line is that the NYT are a bunch of hypocrites (or at least the people who draw up editor’s contracts are) and this is not the first time Dean Baquet has been the top editor of a major US newspaper.
Wouldn’t matter how they framed it – the GOP would say NO. PBO should have said “we don’t need no damned infrastructure” – then watch McCain scream for infrastructure on the Sunday shows.
This is about appealing to the voters, not the gnoppers. And it happens to be true unlike the fake national security issues that rethugs spin all the time.
Remember this morning, I think it was Hopefruit who posted this tweet from Jonathon Alter- well I asked him a question about it and he responded.. thought you all would like to see this:
Jonathan Alter
@jonathanalter
The reason HRC is highly likely to run is that she wants to live to see the first woman prez and knows she’s the best shot for that. – 14 May
sherijr
@jonathanalter wait, is that something she told you.. or are you giving your opinion? – 14 May
Jonathan Alter
@sherijr it’s my analysis based on covering her for years. Not a recent interview.
The reason I asked this of him, is that- though I am not a fan of Hillary Clinton’s – I am definitely not a believer in our media’s ‘facts’… they just say stuff and to often we believe them if they’re commenting on someone we don’t trust, respect or like… I am of the belief that this media we have now, will and do lie about everyone.. either by fabrication or by omission. In this case Jonathon Alter basically pulled his ‘tweet’ out of his imaginary ass.
My response to his response just now was: Thank you for responding Jonathan, though I think it would be better to actually ask this question of Hillary and hear what she has to say.
“not a recent interview” – is this to make folks think there was a “past interview” where this was discussed? They still want their fans to think they are “in the know”
and cute how he avoids the word that I used “opinion” by stating “analysis” instead. As if that makes it okay that he basically put words in Hillary’s mouth.
this is why I don’t follow any media at all- I’d be tweeting them all day long 🙂 🙂 One thing about Alter, he does respond… years back during the ’08 campaign he was on tv (back when I watched tv) and he defended Michelle Obama’s speech- about being “proud”.. I emailed him that I appreciated what he said.. and he responded back very kindly. However, it is really intolerable of any media to just make these sort of statements as if they’ve got some inside track to a person’s thoughts.
National MSM political reporting staff are apparently paid for their speculation, not to uncover and report facts.
They are pretty much worthless.
Political reporters for local newspapers do actual reporting. Unfortunately, these reporters are often the first that newspapers lay off. San Francisco has no reporters in Sacramento to follow what’s going on there. And California is something like the 9th largest economy, but the heart of Silicon Valley can’t afford a reporter to cover what’s happening politically to our state.
I had a follow up visit today (6 months post bone marrow transplant) and am proud to report that the doctor was ecstatic. So was I. I made so much progress that she lifted the no-travel ban. She was surprised that I could lay down and get up ALL BY MYSELF like the big girl I am. I am grateful to God and to all friends here and elsewhere that said a little prayer on my behalf. It’s only with God’s help that I can be here today, having resumed work for 3 months now, and back to driving.
On a different note, I don’t know if it is politically correct to speak of Rachel Maddow. But I admire her research and the fact that she speaks of things that I would never know nor learn from anyone else. Tonight is a follow up of Teabaggers trying to extort money from their republican brethren to stay off primary ballots. This is scandalous. Yet again, I should not be surprised because the GOTP these days will stoop to any level to win an election.
Now onto my favorite topic. Governor Chris Christie, the one and only. The savior of the GOP who was going to walk from NJ to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave to save the United States. Yes, that Chris Christie, the head of Bridgegate, the bully who uses all at his disposal to get rid of rivals. He can keep pretending that he is a candidate for 2016. He will only land on Ed Schultz’s Pretenders’ List.
NCLB – what fabulous news from your doctor, you must be thrilled beyond what words can convey – I had a good report from my melanoma doctor yesterday & it so helped me recover my spirits from the disaster of our current government – good health news is the best news.
Rachel – I mentioned her above – the only media person I have seen who uses research rather than wild guesses when reporting on any political issues.
“good on ya” – used in an ad for a bread company – I hate that advertising steals our language cause that’s what immediately came to mind from your post
Back when I lived DownUnda, 99ts, one of the most popular adverts was “Feed The Man Meat”! I’m sure you’ll remember that! To this day, much as I love Aussie-isms, that slogan was just too odd!
I do remember that, and then later, over here, Real Men Eat Quiche caught on and was very popular. I am a little too aware of Aussie men and their a-hem, characteristics (my daughter’s father, eg), but am hearing of a disturbing level of domestic violence, brutal in many cases, which I was not aware was a factor in life back then. But maybe it’s getting exposure now?
It was always there Pamela – “domestics” were never investigated or prosecuted in my youth. Most violent crimes are still between people known to each other – and there still isn’t enough prosecution until someone dies.
Wonderful report on your health nclb. So happy for you! Keep making good progress.
Regarding Rachel: As I was listening to her opening segment with all the news reports from years ago and all the news clips and detail about explosions, etc., I thought about the hugely extensive research—WOW! If only other media folks would do even half of what she and her staff do–what a difference it would make!
How wonderful for you that your doctor was ecstatic.
And so were you, and so is the TOD family.
So glad that your treatment worked and you’re fully on the road to recovery.
I’ve haven’t watched much recently, but I think Rachel has toned down her emoprog attacks from the likes of Jeremy Scahill (who is also part of that $250 million package that @Pierre handed over to GG), which most in TODville clicked off.
Those reports were infuriating. But I’ve seen others here agree (e.g., 99ts) that Rachel is the only true investigative journalist on national TV on a daily basis.
God Bless you No Child. Hugs to you and positive thoughts about your continued recovery and well being. And thank you for your persistence on Christie … I just wonder if he will be held accountable. This seems to have been put on a back burner and I, for one, thinks it should be front page. Take care of you.
I haven’t been online much the last few days, so I don’t know how TOD reacted to the gag-worthy news that the movie rights to GG’s book has been picked up by producers known for James Bond flicks.
Sony & long-time #007 producers Michael G. Wilson & Barbara Broccoli get film rights to #Snowden story. http://t.co/m4l4dSfgii
And this from GG cheerleader, staunch libertarian; he’s still a GG cheerleader, so don’t bother clicking on the link — but maybe GG will start calling Jack Shafer “odious.”
Arapaho, GG and his nemesis Traitor Snowden are OFAC territories to me. I simply don’t go there. I will not be reading his book even if it is available for free nor will I watch any movie talking about the Spy from the Cold, unless the movie speaks on how the latter ends up behind bar. GG is making money and feeding his ego, and the Spy was a mole inside the US.
But even if his book sales tanks, he’ll be rolling in clover (and walking down red carpets–double ugh) when the #Snowden movie is filmed as if it were a Tom Cruise or James Bond thriller.
He was only ever about the $$$ – hope Snowden is enjoying his Russian lifestyle while GG makes money from same.
Noting – I haven’t read the links – don’t want to – don’t care what they say – he will always be a traitor to his country – and he didn’t do much for Snowden either.
Is this worth $250 million? @Pierre would do better by investing in TOD. The lion’s share would go to Chips and NW, but BT’s could receive a commission for their wonderful essays and deeply researched pieces (thinking of LP on MLK Day, Mandela’s funeral and all of Zizi2’s stellar contributions).
Great, just what Cali needs is a major earthquake on the San Andreas fault with wild fires burning west of that fault.
This article appears to be talking about Central California, which is not a major population center (although Fresno is a pretty busy town).
We’ve been saying all winter that climate change is here now. In mid-May we’ve had two heat waves and the conditions of the vegetation is not Spring-like, but rather reminds me of the desert live oak forests in New Mexico — leaves covered with dust because it’s been so long since it last rained — here leaves are covered in dust kicked up by the unrelenting Santa Ana winds.
“a significant number of journalists who worked for her – even some in editing ranks – found her brusque to point of rudeness”
I see the above as one reason why ms Abramson was fired from the NYT – yet this is a MAJOR reason why folks rant about how wonderful is Chris Christie – he is brusque and rude!
Game of Thrones author George RR Martin has explained why he does all his writing on an obsolete disk operating system (DOS) computer – because it does not correct his spelling.
He said he did not want a modern PC that amended his writing as he typed.
The writer of the books on which the TV series is based first revealed he used the archaic system in 2011.
Speaking on US chat show Conan on Tuesday, he said he kept a second computer for browsing the internet.
He said he never feared a virus infecting his computer and deleting his work because he had a “secret weapon”.
Martin added: “I actually like it, it does what I want a word-processing programme to do and it doesn’t do anything else. I don’t want any help, you know?
Thanks Bob for sharing this! Pardon me, but I don’t understand how Israel, which supposedly enjoys special relations with the United States, is now neutral in the dispute between the U.S. and Russia, over Russian aggression in Ukraine.
Nath, I was just thinking of you. I hope you are safe from the fires. I was caught up in the aftermath of the one up the hill from me two weeks ago. Sinus difficulties were very bad for me for a week afterward. Have some friends who live in the area of that fire two weeks ago, but their home was not touched, but pretty close call.
Haven’t read anything about it, nath, but I suspect Israel would immediately be called a hypocrite by Tzar Vlad (and many others) given Israel’s occupation of Syrian and Palestinian territories.
Guess many of you saw this yesterday – but is there any length to which Christie won’t go for money
“New scandal snags Christie, Mass. GOP hopeful
Pando Daily’s David Sirota talks with Rachel Maddow about a donation from a Massachusetts GOP gubernatorial candidate to Chris Christie’s state party, and an investment made by NJ in that person’s business interests – an apparent violation.”
Christie admin investing NJ retirement fund money into a supporters fund – against NJ law
So corrupt JoB – yet they still vote for him and his ilk – I am partly and will be fully dependent on my govt invested retirement funds – and I am 100% confident of the ability of those who oversee said investment (to the extend that they can control it) I cannot imagine having my future decided by those who would donate funds to a RW politician. I am scared this may spread to my country – as much other GOP “enlightenment” has already arrived here.
And will Chris Hayes EVER learn to talk without the “fast and furious” and will he ever let his guests speak without yelling over them – worst decision ever by msnbc
A friend was just telling me about this … I’m kind of into Latin! #GoddessOfTheDyingArtForms
Somewhat of a challenge, since many modern-day words don’t quite translate! Love how they’re considering making Pope Francis tweets in Latin fit the vernacular of people like “Plautus or Terentius, the two great Latin comedians,” for the benefit of Latin scholars, etc. (which would not be me, for sure). Latin tweets, if interested: @Pontifex_ln

May the grace that rests upon President Barack H. Obama’s life tonight give him an even greater gift of measured grace to give a restfulness of peace, truth, and compassion to those families, friends, and our nation as he performs his duties as our President and CIC during the ceremonies tomorrow. May wisdom and grace be your guiding light, Mr. President. May you and our First Lady give strength to each other during these times.
Blessings to this TOD family. Thank you, Chips for this beautiful and serious space and your unwavering support and respect to President Barack H. Obama.. You are a true and brilliant vessel of goodness to all of us. I love you. I appreciate you for being in my life daily. HZ.
hello
hi al. how’s it goin?
great! 😀
Congrats alice on #1 🙂
Hellooooooo Alice!
yay! I was about to sing eric carmen “all by myself”. thankyou for saving me from that. whew.
Congrats on 1st Alice!!!
Super post, Chips. Thank you!!
Something tells me that there is more tothe staff changes at the NYTimes.
Chips, were you planning to build the infrastructure without me? Tut. Tut> Tut.
Well done, a4A! 🙂
thanks VC hope everyone in TODVille is having a great day!
Congratsssssssssss…Alice….
Oooo…great recap of the day, Chiparoooo.
The pictures are wonderful and the views are just mesmerizing.
PBO and bridges, how could you go wrong Nerdy? 🙂 Thank you!
How nice but I bet they’re wondering where those 20 years went. Time flies.
Wait til they hit their 40th, then they’ll really wonder where the years sent, speaking from experience.
I like that. NYC’s First Couple celebrating their wedding anniversary. 🙂
While I’m happy about Dean Baquet’s new position at the NYT, I’m also curious about how much he’ll be paid.
The smartest thing he could do would be to take the same compensation package that Abramson had and champion equal pay for women in the newsroom.
Yes it would be. I’m gonna read up on this fellow.
Josh Lederman seems very content covering PBO on this trip 🙂 And I think he’s been doing a fine job all afternoon and evening – no snide remarks; no underhanded jabs at the President ala Markknoller…
Agree, hf
Heh…Those pizzas actually look quite good. I’m having a sudden craving now.
I know hf those look good! 😀
I now what pizza for dinner…….thanks Obama
🙂
For all that some WHPC complain, they’re getting it world’s better under President Obama than GWB. They spend their summers in Martha’s Vineyard and winters in Hawaii. Plus, wonderful international trips.
The domestic time they had with GWB was that ranch he bought in Crawford, TX so he could fool himself into thinking he was an actual cowboy. Hawaii or that? Yeah, I know which spot I’d choose.
He’s not food obsessed Hopefruit, at all…..
He’s gonna need a lot of training, HF, still time to change your plans…
🙂
I hope VP Biden got enough for Mark Knoller.
I’d kill for a cannoli from an Italian-American bakery right now. Kill!
Thou Shalt Not Kill. JO’B!!!
Not even for a cannoli?
Did anyone watch Frontline’s “United States of Secrets” last night? OMG, what a clown show. Making Snowden look like a hero? Giving GG the spotlight? UGH.

D’oh! RT @aterkel: Here’s a NYT editorial from April criticizing the White House for its gender pay gap http://nyti.ms/1jIZ12q
The dems could have done better by framing the crumbling infrastructure as a national security issue.
Pbo has said it a few times and some general said it today.
Dems miss obvious frames: ACA is a job creator with healthy Americans the product. should have been saying that for four years. but nooooo…..
Now tell us, how you reeeeally feel.
Thanks very much for the heads up.
A pleasure Meta! This means I have to be awake before 10:0 AM 😦 #ObamasFault
I’m going to miss that – darn it….
🙂
220 unread e-mails. Too close to home for ya?
Very funny, indeed.
mahalo amk~
Aloha Cha.
Cute!
Remember this morning, I think it was Hopefruit who posted this tweet from Jonathon Alter- well I asked him a question about it and he responded.. thought you all would like to see this:
Jonathan Alter
@jonathanalter
Interesting – thanks sherijr
“not a recent interview” – is this to make folks think there was a “past interview” where this was discussed? They still want their fans to think they are “in the know”
well he actually discounts his “recent interview” comment by stating that it’s his analysis. So which is it Jonathan?
I trust nothing they say, anymore.
and cute how he avoids the word that I used “opinion” by stating “analysis” instead. As if that makes it okay that he basically put words in Hillary’s mouth.
Good for ya for calling him out. I read his tweet which hf posted and straight away knew he was pulling this out of his ass.
this is why I don’t follow any media at all- I’d be tweeting them all day long 🙂 🙂 One thing about Alter, he does respond… years back during the ’08 campaign he was on tv (back when I watched tv) and he defended Michelle Obama’s speech- about being “proud”.. and thanks for the retweet amk! 🙂
Too true – they all describe their opinion as analysis – except maybe Rachel
seriously what if we all framed things this way… well my analysis is… (insert hogwash here)…
Yup.

Back when I lived DownUnda, 99ts, one of the most popular adverts was “Feed The Man Meat”! I’m sure you’ll remember that! To this day, much as I love Aussie-isms, that slogan was just too odd!
The beef industry – didn’t like that people started eating green. It’s like “real men don’t eat quiche” which used to be popular.
It’s taking a long time to “humanize” Oz men – fortunately the only ones left beating the superiority of muscle over brain have little of the latter.
I do remember that, and then later, over here, Real Men Eat Quiche caught on and was very popular. Absolutely WONDERFUL news No Child, thrilled for you!!!
I haven’t been online much the last few days, so I don’t know how TOD reacted to the gag-worthy news that the movie rights to GG’s book has been picked up by producers known for James Bond flicks.
Makes me sick. GG makes me sick. First he gets $250 million for basically doing nothing but promote his gag-worthy book, and now this.
However, after a year, it seems some DC beltway types are finally acknowledging GG’s egomania:
And this from GG cheerleader, staunch libertarian; he’s still a GG cheerleader, so don’t bother clicking on the link — but maybe GG will start calling Jack Shafer “odious.”
Arapaho, GG and his nemesis Traitor Snowden are OFAC territories to me. I simply don’t go there. Agree.
GG is nothing but a grifter.
But even if his book sales tanks, he’ll be rolling in clover (and walking down red carpets–double ugh) when the #Snowden movie is filmed as if it were a Tom Cruise or James Bond thriller.
Don’t worry..it’s just a matter of time before the GG joyride is over. All good things will come to an end for this grifter…mark my word.
250 million? you’re joking, right?
He was only ever about the $$$ – hope Snowden is enjoying his Russian lifestyle while GG makes money from same.
Noting – I haven’t read the links – don’t want to – don’t care what they say – he will always be a traitor to his country – and he didn’t do much for Snowden either.
Judge for yourself.

One more on #Snowden:
Anybody with the last name Broccoli … well, never mind.

Extracting water for human activities is increasing the number of small earthquakes being triggered in California.
A new study suggests that the heavy use of ground water for pumping and irrigation is causing mountains to lift and valleys to subside.
The scientists say this depletion of the water is increasing seismic activity along the San Andreas fault.
They worry that over time this will hasten the occurrence of large quakes.

Hey genius, you can turn-off spell-check, if you want. #maroons
Some of the most destructive fires in Los Angeles county were set by arsonists.
Speculation in San Diego county now:

WTG, Israel!
Keep safe , my friend. HZ
Haven’t read anything about it, nath, but I suspect Israel would immediately be called a hypocrite by Tzar Vlad (and many others) given Israel’s occupation of Syrian and Palestinian territories.
Thank you, President Obama:
Gee, why so soon?
Well amk, as you know, we had to first elect a Kenyan Communist/Fascist/whatever …… 😉
Yep. I just wish some of these announcements would start with: “Unfortunately, it’s 2014, and Senate has just confirmed the freakin’ first … ”
If they ended with ” … thanks to President Obama,” now that would make me happy. I’m off to thank him.
Exactly.
Bobfr, thank you so much for your brilliant tweets. You are such a dedicated TODer who encourages President Obama and his staff. Trust me. HZ
Thank you, HZ!!!
Tonight at 8pm it’s 87 F degrees. Argh!!

He’s a criminal, to his core, 99. Period.
Together with a few others – he has to be brain dead – else he would never sleep at night
Proceed, Governor!
If like-minded folks find a way, it will happen. Scary.

HZ.
