ObamaCare: Winning Across The Board

Igor Volsky: Obamacare Is Already Providing A Big Boost To Public Hospitals

In yet another boost to the health care law, some publicly traded hospitals are claiming that provisions in the Affordable Care Act are already increasing their bottom lines. During a call with investors on Wednesday, Community Health Systems CFO Larry Cash claimed that the company has already seen a decrease in self-pay admissions in the states that have expanded their Medicaid programs and predicted that the law would lower those kind of admissions from 8 percent to 4 percent over a three-year period. The CEOs of LifePoint Hospitals and HCA reported similar experiences: in states that expanded their Medicaid programs,

Medicaid admissions grew, while the number of uninsured admissions declined at faster rates than in states that have yet to comply with the Medicaid provisions of the health care law. “So far and as expected, the new health care law has been a net positive for LifePoint with respect to Medicaid expansion,” CEO Bill Carpenter said during the call. “In the seven states where we operate that have expanded coverage, we saw increasing Medicaid and decreasing self-pay volumes. Increases in Medicaid membership and health insurance exchange participation contributed measurably to our results in the quarter.”

:):). This is all wonderful news!! Healthcare AND PBO flying overhead !

    • May 8, 2014 at 4:19 pm

      Was this from earlier?

PBO is in San Diego now for a quick stop, then off to San Jose in a couple of hours.

Yes – it was when he flew over to San Diego.

I post when I can while at work. Like many of your posts – they are sometimes late 😉

      • May 8, 2014 at 5:09 pm

        Thanks GGail.

I’m so easily confused, but that’s exciting for you to KNOW that PBO was overhead!

It was really something to see how blase everyone was at last night’s Shoah awards event — with the exception of Steven Spielberg who had a very animated discussion with PBO and Liam Neeson, who apparently got PBO’s autograph on the way out the door.

But everyone else acted like they dine with PBO once a week.

John McCain should rot in hell for telling this country that STUPID had a place governance. These idiots are dumber than a box of rocks. The Burwell confirmation hearing today to replace Sebelius:

” Republicans, Sens. Johnny Isakson (GA) and Richard Burr (NC), didn’t even ask her about Obamacare. Isakson must have thought he was in some other hearing, because he kept talking about a port project in Georgia that he wants to see approved,…”

The thank you tweets are wonderful, but I would like everyone who’s been given new peace of mind because of Obamacare to know there’s only one meaningful ‘thank you’–go out and vote this November and bring our president a Congress he can work with. Better yet, make sure to bring as many people as possible with you when you go to the polls. Every Republican in Congress voted over 50 times to deprive Americans of health insurance and put their lives at risk. They are not on your side, America. You have one great chance to tell them what you think of them. Don’t miss it!

I did not realize it was the January 20th, 2009 meeting that Harry Reid was calling Chuck Todd out on.

Reid said, “One of the problems the has with modern-day journalism is everything you do a tit for tat. You won’t call things the way they actually exist. What has happened here is that the Republicans have stopped everything from happening, and there’s no question that that meeting took place. That was the agreement made. They know who was there. They know what has happened since then, so you can give me the tit for tat all you want, but the fact is we want to legislate. We want to legislate and take votes.”

There is so much good news I could sit all day and read and tweet! I haven’t checked comments within the posts yet, so they may be repeats. Good news is always worth a second look I hope.

Schools cannot require students or their parents to provide Social Security numbers, birth certificates or other documentation showing citizenship status as a condition of enrollment under formal Obama administration guidance issued Thursday….

….Attorney General Eric Holder said such policies “have a chilling effect on student enrollment, raising barriers for undocumented children and children from immigrant families who seek to receive the public education to which they are entitled.”

“Public school districts have an obligation to enroll students regardless of immigration status and without discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin,” Holder said. “We will vigilantly enforce the law to ensure the schoolhouse door remains open to all.”….

Troops are more important than equipment is that is old or in excess. I wish they had cut that and left in the benefits for troops.

The Pentagon on Thursday said it stands “firmly” behind President Obama’s 2015 defense budget request, much of which was rejected by the House Armed Services Committee.

The House panel completed a marathon session on Thursday morning that turned aside most of the president’s proposals, including the retirement of an aircraft carrier and the A-10 aircraft, the closing of excess bases, and cuts to troop pay raises and benefits.

Military chiefs have warned that, if those proposed cuts are not made, training and maintenance that would keep troops ready to fight would be affected.
“We stand firmly behind the president’s budget as submitted,” said Pentagon spokesman Army Col. Steve Warren, who added that it was long-standing policy not to comment on legislation that’s being drafted….

Afternoon everyone! Finally at my desk.

  24. May 8, 2014 at 5:43 pm

I think the GOP is very vulnerable in the old controversies they are bringing up. They were discredited before. I have a Tea Party representative and he will be hearing plenty from me with facts and debunking. This is an article by Taegan Goddard and I couldn’t remember if he’s not welcome here or not. He’s certainly right in this column.

After pounding Democrats on ObamaCare for the last several years, Republicans have a big problem. The law is working and their message is falling flat.

This was confirmed again by testimony before the House Energy and Commerce Committee yesterday in which health care industry executives surprised Republican lawmakers. They said the law has not led to a government takeover of the industry, that most enrollees are paying their premiums as required, and that premiums are not certain to go up next year as Republicans claim…..

I think this is setting Democrats up in a good place for the midterms. Dems are standing tall on Medicaid expansion and ObamaCare. The IRS and Benghazi “controversies” have already been thoroughly debunked. The GOP is looking like fools in their pursuit of ObamaCare. They are blocking some powerful issues like minimum wage and immigration reform. Lots of good possibilities in play for Democrats and plenty of time for it all to work out.

  27. May 8, 2014 at 6:12 pm

Here’s your Benghazi….This is what Dems should be talking about…even if it was a while ago…4K people died for, as PBO calls it “A Dumb War”
This idiots have he nerve to capitalize on 4 death in Benghazi….

“An eternal spring, the spring of our victory is waiting for us”
“Near Sloviansk, in Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk there is optimism and faith in victory, writes blogger Alexey Arestovich

    Dear Friends:

Today, I am going to talk about the good things. When you read the news-feeds for 15 minutes, you get a feeling of total disaster. Yet near Sloviansk, in Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk, at the headquarters of the self-defense units, you become filled with optimism and a faith in victory.

As it happens, I am now actively working with the military, self-defense units of different oblasts, and Kyiv. I am dealing with state officials, police, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the guys from the Right Sector. And you know what? I think we are crossing through the mountain pass.

There are so many honest, selfless people, who are sacrificing themselves for the sake of the new Ukraine, and the future. I could have never imagined that, despite all of my optimism.

People are really working. They really want to change the country and the system. They are not taking bribes and are not accepting very attractive schemes. They are truly sacrificing themselves and all that they have.”
