Early Bird Chat

On This Day – May 8, 2009: “A temporary White House staffer, Carlton Philadelphia, brought his family to the Oval Office for a farewell photo with President Obama. Carlton’s son softly told the President he had just gotten a haircut like President Obama, and asked if he could feel the President’s head to see if it felt the same as his.” (Photo by Pete Souza)

    Good Thursday Chipsticks, vetivera24…TODers!!!

Everyone smile 🙂 have a Wonnnnnnnnnnnderful day!

  3. May 8, 2014 at 7:52 am

Oh Chipsticks. This photo has always touched me deeply. I had not read the details beyond the fact that it was a visit by a staffer and family. The detail about the little man and his own haircut movede even more. And then PBO’s commentary ? Well! Lump in my throat, tears into eyes. We are right. This person is deeply good, wise, strong, and a powerful blessing to our nation and world.

Morning. The sweet, charming thing about the president’s commentary is that he’s never in danger of taking himself too seriously. He’s always been able to laugh at himself and at the absurdities around him and he has his wonderful family to keep him in balance. This is one of the things that has made so many of us love him over the years. He’s real and deeply human and he relates to all of us. We’ve often said–he seems like a member of our family–a beloved son or brother–and that’s never changed, no matter how many heroic battles he wins, or royalty he entertains. There will never be anyone like him again.

      May 8, 2014 at 8:23 am

He is most definitely like a son, brother or even though he is younger than I he could be a father figure. I cherish him and his family like my own and long since watched his events, efforts and comings and goings the same way I watch everything that happens to my own close family members. Sometimes I can’t watch till its over I am so nervous for him. I have sympathy for anyone who is looking past this time, who’s missing it or rejecting it for some reason and I thank God for this site to help me keep up each day (several times a day) with our beloved President.

So I see that there are a bunch of “Holier-than-thou” Twitter activists who want to dictate to FLOTUS what she should/shouldn’t be doing…

    • May 8, 2014 at 8:33 am

Wow, what a spiteful tweet. I’m damn sure PBO is doing what he can, but why does Ms Morse think it’s his responsibility? He’s the President of the USA, not Nigeria – silly cow.

      • 38 hopefruit2
        May 8, 2014 at 8:37 am

Indeed Chips. And even so, Ms. Morse really has no clue what the First Lady & PBO are doing or have already done behind the scenes. This Twitter hashtag is simply putting a well-known public face on a cause – so that more people are aware. It’s not the end all and be all – and PBO/FLOTUS of all people know FAR more than Ms. Morse could ever hope to know about stuff like that!!!

        • May 8, 2014 at 8:45 am

Exactly! And, no doubt, she’s usually the first to complain about America meddling in other country’s affairs.

          May 8, 2014 at 9:03 am

First of all I think that dam Morse woman have some dam nerve. What FLOTUS can’t express her concern for those young girls. Just what has FLOTUS husband being the President of the U.S has to do with anything? Like you said Chipsticks, he is the President of the U.S., not Nigeria. POTUS can’t force Nigeria to accept our help, he is not going to invade Nigeria, that is more Bush-Cheney doing. This bitchy woman just want to be nasty. Excuse my morning language.

          • 41 hopefruit2
            May 8, 2014 at 9:15 am

I agree with everything you said anniebella – and your morning language is excused!

      • May 8, 2014 at 8:46 am

Wow, the disrespect in the way she addresses the first lady. I guess I shouldn’t be shocked anymore at the disrespect the first family receives–but it does shock and offend me every single time.

        • May 8, 2014 at 8:48 am

Exactly MomSense, revolting disrespect, it never fails to shock me either.

            May 8, 2014 at 9:08 am

MomSense, Chipsticks, I’m use to the disrespect POTUS and FLOTUS gets, I’ve seen so much of it, but it does not mean that I like it one “DAM” bit.

            • 45 anniebella
              May 8, 2014 at 9:20 am

Any anger this Morse have ought to be toward the evil folks who committed this horrible act, and that leader of Nigeria.

      • 46 99ts
        May 8, 2014 at 9:15 am

And she lives in London UK – What is the UK PM doing about the girls in Nigeria? Seems she thinks the President’s wife determines US worldwide activities!

        • May 8, 2014 at 9:18 am

That’s the thing 99ts, people like her are the first to complain about America meddling in other countries’ affairs, but are the first to scream ‘AMERICA! DO SOMETHING!’ when when a horror like this happens. She should get busy tweeting Cameron.

          • 48 99ts
            May 8, 2014 at 9:24 am

And from her reply to the criticism – she thinks FLOTUS has political power – now I well understand that people using a Westminster Parliamentary system do not understand the US system (after studying same since 2008 I’m still confused), but they should know what they are talking about before twittering nonsense – media folks especially – sigh – they really are the worst in every country.

      • 49 jackiegrumbacher
        May 8, 2014 at 9:37 am

Chips, it’s a deliberately obtuse misunderstanding of what the First Lady is doing. It’s also arrogant, hateful and filled with dismissive regard for the feelings of the victims involved and their families. Anything the First Lady spotlights instantly increases awareness of the issue. And those poor girls need to have the whole world be made aware of what’s happening to them and they need help from any quarter.

        • May 8, 2014 at 9:41 am

I can’t get over the nastiness of it Jackie. As I said on Twitter, the irony is that she is the social media editor for the UK Independent, yet seems unaware of the power of social media. This story was virtually ignored by the media, worldwide, until the #BringBackOurGirls hashtag, and other online campaigns, and the First Lady is lending her support to that. Ultimately what will resolve this horror is pressure being kept on the Nigerian government, and this is the way to do it. They want the story to go away, the First Lady’s gesture helps ensure it won’t. And that Felicity fool just doesn’t get it.

It seems that these PUMAs are so threatened by the possibility of any other DEM challenging their anointed – they get very upset at even a hint. Well, the DEM primaries will address that. There is no crowning of any candidate – we live in a democracy.

The most Republican-leaning company in the country, based on political donations, isn’t Koch Industries. It’s the company that makes Wonder Bread.

The political action committee of Flowers Foods, a Georgia company that produces the pillowy sandwich bread, Tastykakes and Nature’s Own baked goods, has given more than 99 percent of its political contributions since 1979 to Republicans. Only three Democratic congressional candidates have gotten money from its PAC since 1984, and not one in the past 20 years.

Republicans are desperately grasping for anything to find a scandal in this administration. They cannot tolerate the fact that there has been none, so they are trying to manufacture one, and this seems hot…..did they care about veterans’ care before? NO. They took funds away, and now they will spend money “investigating.”

Thailand’s anti-graft body has indicted ousted leader Yingluck Shinawatra over a controversial rice subsidy scheme.

The case will now be voted on at the Senate. If impeached, Ms Yingluck will be barred from politics for five years.

On Wednesday, a Thai court ordered Ms Yingluck and several cabinet ministers to step down over separate charges.

Thailand has been in political turmoil since anti-government protests erupted in November 2013. In February, snap elections were annulled.

Holding the former IRS employee in contempt.

        Here’s what got me:

“Republicans spent much of the day laying out a case for why the Obama administration is politically corrupt and, by extension, why Democrats could not be trusted with power.”

GOP are geniuses at framing things that fire up passions. We have the truth, and can’t seem to do the same thing.

Why isn’t Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and all of the Democratic leadership out there with outrage, saying that liars who fabricate scandals for political gain are destroying government and can’t be ‘trusted with power?’

        • 106 99ts
          May 8, 2014 at 11:19 am

Whenever the media writes one article supporting the democrats – there is “outrage” about the left wing press – yet GOP lies are treated as being the truth by the media and there never seems to be any push back of note.

It does seem to be a feature of the left side of politics that they can NEVER pull together – and that happens in my country’s politics as well as yours. Internal arguments seem to take over when they should be attacking the GOP, not themselves.
