WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has turned away another case over whether Americans have a constitutional right to be armed in public.

The justices on Monday let stand a lower court ruling upholding a New Jersey requirement for gun owners to show an urgent need to carry a handgun outside their home for self-defense. Both a police official and a judge must approve the permits.

The New Jersey law was challenged by four individuals and two gun groups, and had the backing of 19 states.

The justices turned away similar questions on at least two earlier occasions.

The court’s 2008 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller focused mainly on the right to defend one’s own home, but left for another day how broadly the Second Amendment may protect gun rights elsewhere.

CBS News Asks for Transcript of Their Bogus 60 Minutes Benghazi Report Deleted

While Republicans are trumping up their Benghazi hysteria, CBS News had the transcript of Lara Logan’s untrue 60 Minutes Benghazi report deleted from the Lexis Nexis database.

We also know now, thanks to a lengthy piece in New York Magazine which Republican was behind Logan’s 60 Minutes story:

Benghazi had been thoroughly politicized from the beginning. But rather than steering clear of the political battle, Logan headed right toward it, consulting with Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, a strong critic of the administration’s handling of the incident whom she’d met once in Afghanistan. “I really didn’t know her until she started doing this piece on Benghazi,” he told me.

The two met two or three times to talk about the Libya attack, with Graham telling Logan that from his point of view, it was “a fair thing to say” that there was a “build-up of Al Qaeda types” in the area—a major talking point for the right in arguments that the Obama White House tried covering up alleged terrorist links.

Graham declared Logan’s report the “death blow” to the Obama administration’s narrative about Benghazi.

    Difference between MSNBC and Fox?

One Huge one is blatantly obvious to those who have eyes:

Fox doing their Darnest to elect TBGOPers in 2014.

MSNBC doing their Darnest to Elect HRC in 2016.

    Arithmetic of it all?

2014 comes before 2016 by 2 freaking plus years.

    Who Loves YOU Liberals?

interesting, I tried to retweet that person’s tweet – AliasHere and it came back as blocked to me. I don’t even know or follow that person.. but apparently they don’t want me retweeting them. wow.

        May 5, 2014 at 3:05 pm

Huh. It was (kind of) explained to me: sometimes a troll or some awful tweet war will erupt and you’ll get caught up in the “block loop”. I’m ‘blocked’ by a few people who I would retweet all the time.

The message: don’t take it personally.

          May 5, 2014 at 3:24 pm

thank you 57, I appreciate you letting me know… all I do is retweet pretty much, so not to aware of the way things work.

            May 5, 2014 at 3:38 pm

I’m pretty illiterate myself. I have very little knowledge of the Inner Secrets of Twitter, but when this happened to me, it disturbed me, too. It’s not personal at all.

          • May 5, 2014 at 4:17 pm

            57andFemale is correct.

My personal twitter philosophy is to be as measured as possible, and try my best to not hurl insults (my twitter profile = peace never escalates, from a Quaker acquaintance).

But I’m unable to RT or favorite tweets from Nancy Wonderful, who is often posted here.

I also don’t usually respond to trolls because flame wars are unhealthy and unproductive. However, sometimes trolls do appear and snare innocent people in their flame war — NancyWonderful and AliasHere must block everyone involved in a flame war.

57F’s advice is wise. It’s not personal, it’s the result of those RWNJ trolls who delight in stirring up trouble.

              May 5, 2014 at 4:33 pm

interesting, because I’ve never been in a ‘flame war’… never responded to a troll. About all I do is retweet, except for tweeting now and then when POTUS is speaking.. I have few interactions and always with followers – so its all friendly.

    The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Paine College in Augusta is on lockdown due to an active shooter on campus, the college said this afternoon.
“This is an active shooter situation and we are barricaded in the office,” a college spokesperson told Channel 2 Action News.
Today’s incident took place around 1 p.m, a Richmond County sheriff’s spokesman told The Augusta Chronicle. One student suffered a non-life-threatening wound, the newspaper reported.

“Last week, after Republicans pivoted to Benghazi in unison, The Huffington Post’s Sam Stein observed an interesting phenomenon. When it came time to put White House press secretary Jay Carney in the hot seat, reporters for smaller outlets—whose correspondents are consigned to the back rows of the briefing room—were interested in real, unfolding dramas: Ukraine, the Affordable Care Act, the Snowden disclosures, and so on.

But when Carney moved to the big-name journalists at the front of the room, the only thing anyone seemed to care about was Benghazi….

And that raises an interesting question, because in covering the story as a political scandal, just as Republicans want them to, the only scalps the media has really collected are their own. CBS suspended Lara Logan after “60 Minutes” aired, and later had to retract, her Benghazi feature; Sharyl Attkisson resigned from the same network, charging her former colleagues with liberal bias—reportedly because they didn’t adequately promote her Benghazi coverage; and ABC’s Jonathan Karl had to apologize last year after he passed along an inaccurate summation of then-unreleased White House Benghazi emails……”

In feeding the story, Republicans have burned reporters in very public and damaging ways. It’s unclear why you’d have to manipulate evidence and promote pathological liars if the real story of Benghazi were anything like the Benghazi of the right’s fever dreams. Yet none of this has deterred those same reporters from returning to it anew, as if it were a brewing scandal, every time Republicans run out of other things to talk about. It’s like Benghazi Stockholm syndrome…………

If I could use Benghazi as an adjective, I would say that the GOP, the Teabaggers and their cells in the press are all Benghazi. Suffice to say that they suffer from a Benghazi disorder.

The House has had over 5 hearings and the senate produced a report and there were internal report by the State Dept and one ordered by the POTUS, I believe wit well over 25K paper trails…..yet the Media is willfully allowing endless partisan diatribe in order to help the GOP continue to politicize BENGHAZI.

      • 42 Ladyhawke
        May 5, 2014 at 4:07 pm

For the third day in a row, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf had to answer recycled asinine questions about Benghazi. It would be more honest if the questions came directly from Speaker Boehner. We could just eliminate the reporters as middlemen. It felt like the AP reporter was making the case for the GOP and just could not understand why the State Department feels the subpeona of SoS John Kerry and the House Select Committee Hearing as unnecessary. Unbelievable.

Craig, thank you for your professionalism…

President Obama’s brother-in-law is apparently out of a job with multiple news outlets reporting Monday that Craig Robinson has been fired as Oregon State basketball coach.
Robinson had a 94-105 record in six seasons in Corvallis and failed to lead the Beavers to the NCAA tournament. He has three years remaining on his contract and is reportedly owed $4 million by the school.
Robinson is the brother of First Lady Michelle Obama. He introduced his sister at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
Robinson won 18 games his first season, 2008-09, but ended up finishing up with a 39-69 record in Pac-12 play. The Beavers must replace all five starters.
Oregon State ended the season at 16-16 with a loss to Radford in the post-season CBI tournament.

“There is a problem when you have so many conspiracy theories that get knocked down by the facts, and yet the adherents to those theories only become more convinced that the facts aren’t what they so clearly are,” Carney said in a press briefing.

Carney’s comments came in reference to a newly released email that shows a White House aide discussing talking points related to the attacks. He said conspiracy theories surrounding that memo are stoked by some authorities in the Republican Party as well as “media outlets who pound that message into those who are predisposed to believe it.”

That means more has to be repaired than just the subject law before the Supreme Court.

Funny or rather isn’t it interesting that CNN is accused and mocked of endlessly covering the missing HP370/380 plane…..sorry….I have forgotten the number……deservedly so.

MSNBC was mocked about the Christie Bridgegate…….still on going.

In the last 12 months, Fox has been gorging on BENGHAZI over 1000 segments……and since Sept 12th 2012,…..that could easily tip over double 1000X.

How many in the DC/NY punditry are mocking Fox? All the media does, just like the Birth Certificate nonsense is to tip over their so called balance chasing after every scream of partisan fetish of the GOP at a given moment.

Premarital sex can result in a life of drugs and crime, and even death, according to an event co-sponsored by the Las Vegas Police Department.

In a Sunday story, the Las Vegas Sun detailed a Saturday event titled “Choose Purity” and spoke with a professional sex educator who was skeptical about the event’s message and the involvement of the police department.

Officer Regina Coward, the president of the Nevada Black Police Association, organized the event after her church, Victory Outreach Church, asked her to put together an event with an abstinence message, Coward told the Las Vegas Sun.

Presenters assured a group of about 100 children and parents that in order to avoid drugs, sexual assault, sex trafficking, gangs and prostitution, all they had to do was wait until marriage to have sex.

This man is an effing menace to everything good and true about America:

“Justice Thomas would have gone further, (a) because he believes the Establishment Clause only applies to the federal government, and that states and local governments can have official religions, and (b) even were that not the case, the only coercion he and Justice Scalia (who concurs on this part) care about is official and not social:”
