Morning TOD Family……..on to last night, I thought President Obama was good but his delivery was a little flat. I thought Joel McHale absolutely killed it last night, I thought he was the best comedian I’ve ever seen at a WHCD.

    • May 4, 2014 at 7:58 am

Seriously Don? I thought McHale was embarrassingly awful!!

Chips, I thought McHale was very funny and very vicious. My wife thought McHale needed to be yanked off the stage after about five minutes.

        • May 4, 2014 at 8:03 am

🙂 I’m with your wife, Don! I honestly thought he was cringeworthy, especially those jokes about Christie’s weight and Nancy Pelosi’s face, I just wanted someone to switch off the power.

I’m a big guy like Christie so I can appreciate a good fat joke, but I understand what you are saying. I just thought McHale left no stone unturned. The only thing I regretted about last night was that McHale didn’t go even farther in his ridicule of CNN, FOX and MSNBC.

            • May 4, 2014 at 8:12 am

I need to give him a second chance then Don, will listen to him again!

Chips, your first reaction was the right reaction. You and my wife had the exact same reaction, she didn’t like the weight jokes and she didn’t like McHale going after Nancy Pelosi.

As I said last night, I was laughing at Joel mcCale. The Christie self-exoneration bit was Brilliant.

Chips, I would give him another shot and watch it again. 🙂 He killed it and I agree with Don, other than his reading, he was as good as Wanda Sikes and Stephen Colbert, imo (both of whom had some pretty cringeworthy jokes if you recall). But even his reading didn’t detract too much because he did his jokes pretty rapid fire. There were just a couple of over the top (Christie fat jokes and Kardashian) but I would much prefer edgy versus corny (like Jay Leno) or stale (like Rich Little).

And POTUS? Damn, he can deliver a joke. I loved how he delivered the “that’s just weird” line about those creeps salivating over Putin. LMAO, everything he did was hilarious and he pushed the envelope with his “piss off Chris Christie” line. And then to end it with the classy acknowledgement of Kathleen Sebelius was perfect.

Morning Forus! Okay, I’ll listen again, maybe I’ll feel different this time! Really hated the Nancy Pelosi joke, so cheap, so maybe that just put me off the whole thing!

      I happen to disagree Don.

PBO started off as he typically does – with mild jokes that gradually but steadily increased in intensity and frequency…Also, PBO’s jokes were more cerebral but his delivery was on point, as usual. I thought McHale was okay and he told some truths about the GOP and MSM, but there were times, when his jokes (e.g., Nancy pelosi, Christie’s fat) were definitely “off.”

As vc pointed out y’day, his jokes were based on the reality of what the rethugs, kochroaches and their media minions are actually doing every day.

I Tivoed the WHCD and watched PBO and McHale twice. I loved PBO’s jokes and delivery, but was almost embarrassed at Joel’s jokes. The Christy investigation joke was good, but many of his jokes crossed the line of decency to me. The second time I watched it I was less shocked, but still not a fan. Just a matter of preference, I guess.

    Good Sunday Chipsticks…TODers!!!!

The President came out swinging last night and didn’t let up. Before his targets could recover from one punch, he was connecting with another. As I had said at one point, he had definitely been given enough material to work with over the past year. He called out everyone from the media to the Koch brothers to the idiocy of some Congressional members and their supporters, to the lack of work days of this dysfunctional congress — even joking about the gridlock in DC being due to Christie being pissed off. I agree that the program committee should stop scheduling comedians to come after the President. He is a hard act to follow.

McHale…while I listened, I felt that many of the jokes that didn’t fall flat were lost in the crudeness of the delivery. It went a little beyond people being uncomfortable with the truth. Some of his jokes were more appropriate for a Def Comedy Jam or a similar forum. Someone indicated that that is the style McHale is known for. So I guess that Thomma, in his vetting (which he made a point of talking about his selection process) knew what was coming and was okay with it.

Everyone enjoy the rest of your weekend and hope your week gets off to a fantastic start.
