I was in this station with son unit y-day night sending off daughter unit, just 7 hours before the bombs went off.

First time, our city has been targeted. As usual, our incompetent police still don’t have a clue.

Thought will start your day on that cheerful note.

Enraged Viewers Flee As MSNBC Plunges to Lowest Ratings Since 2007

Viewers are leaving because they are tired of the constant Obama bashing, and quite frankly so am I. I now get my news from twitter and Facebook, they can’t be any more right or wrong than traditional news outlets.

        May 1, 2014 at 8:37 am

GM TOD friends. I agree Don. MSNBC need to decide if they are liberal or not. They should realize that Obama supporters make up a large portion of their audience. MSNBC was the worst in trashing the ACA rollout. Even Krystal Ball went negative. I was really saddened when they got rid of Martin Bashir.

        • 34 Melanie
          May 1, 2014 at 8:59 am

They are clearly trying to be all things to all people while touting themselves as liberal. They don’t really have an identity anymore and it’s frustrating a lot of viewers. I think one of the commenters in the article noted that the problem starts at the top with Morning Joe. Several years ago it was must see tv now it’s barely watchable.

      • 35 hopefruit2
        May 1, 2014 at 9:17 am

You’re right Don. The author of the article misses the point by half a mile I think. He seems to think that the drop is because MSNBC made a decision to go “liberal nerd” but that’s not the whole story. The author is way too careful to avoid pointing out the obvious: That MSNBC made a decision to go “Libertarian/dudebro/FOX-lite” which resulted in an increased amount of gratuitous Obama-bashing – turning off the very audience who strongly support and have stood by this President through thick and thin.

The author neglects to mention Chuck Todd, Andrea Mitchell, Ronan Farrow, all of whom have contributed to this decline – and all of whom seem to have a huge amount of misinformation AND Obama-bashing on their lineups. Hayes has been more than just a “liberal nerd.” It was he .who gave the Libertarian idiots like Greenwald and Snowden legitimacy by entertaining their anti-NSA narratives for weeks on end. And don’t forget the weekend folks like MHP (grovelling to Romney while taking every opportunity to bash PBO).

After observing media patterns for the last four years, I have come to the conclusion that the public’s appetite for Obama-bashing is not as high as the media seems to think/want – even if they may not agree with everything he does. MSNBC did not get the memo. Even CNN understood that covering MH370 is a better ratings getter than bashing PBO 24/7.

hf, Donna et al, I borrowed some of your phrasing re MSNBC for my tweets to MSNBC. All of you are spot on IMO. Every once in a while I’ll turn on Rachel when she’s covering something really important. I watch Rev from time to time. But none of them give President Obama any in depth coverage about what he’s attempting to accomplish here and around the world. MSNBC is infotainment. And those so-called news journalists lean so far right they can’t even see left. I never, ever watch Joe or Mitchell. I cannot stomach Chuck Todd. Why should I subject myself to that? I find out everything I need to know right here and other blogs. If I want to know even more about a subject I “bing” it . (Don’t use Google either, since they went over to the dark side).

      • 37 Cindy
        May 1, 2014 at 9:52 am

        Good morning Don,

MSNBC became shameful when they allowed; gave permission to, and accepted Donald “crazy hair nut case” Trump to come on to “their” show, and taunt and disgrace, President Obama about the infamous “Birth Certificate” birther scandal. They promoted the hate, the lies, the bigotry and accepted this as a standard, as to how the President should be treated. They brought back “sour face” Mark Hapern after he called the President a d_ _ _ , and the morning jokester Joe egged him on like a bully on the playground.

It starts at 6:00a.m., bashing the President and having slime balls as guest to continue the hatred and lies. Ed goes off the handle every other day, if the President s_ _ _ _ wrong, and whether it smells or not. No one is consistent, exceptions for Rev. Al, in reporting real news. They say what ever will appease others in the name of ratings.

If they want rankings, better rankings, bring back Martin, give me Keith O., give us “real fricking news” instead of the theatrical shows for the moment.

Show off our BEAUTIFUL FIRST FAMILY to the world. Give us the highlights of President Obama’s progress when he travels the world; representing America at his very best, nothing short of 1st class. Highlight the positive news; the economy, working families making it because of the President’s policies and hard work, and how Obamacare is shaping people lives for the betterment because they have healthcare. Call out the hate filled Congress who are bent on destroying this country because the black man occupies the White House.

If the jokester’s morning show is their go to man; may they tank in hell.

      May 1, 2014 at 8:58 am

Good Morning Linda and all of TOD.

I read this article last night…

I said it weeks ago. MSNBC has an identity crisis. They don’t know what they are. You cannot expect 24/7 cable news to be just straight news. If people watch them for that they are going to be disappointed. Local and Network news is suppose to provide us that service. Cable on the other hand is news with an entertainment aspect to it. Fox News has mastered how to provide their viewers with their version of opinion news. MSNBC has yet to figure this out. They think because they are affiliated with NBC that they should sort of be a “real” news organization which is what I gather viewers get throughout the mid-morning on their station. But for ratings they throw a bone to their viewers pretending to be progressive in the evenings when they get the majority of their viewership. Its a farce to the highest degree. I have Sirrus radio in my car and I had Rev All on driving home from work last night so when I got in my car this morning the first thing I heard was Morning Joke ranting about Benghazi and the White House. I’m not even mad at Joe because he is a Republican and that is exactly what he is suppose to do on his infotainment show. I’m sure that Chuck Todd picked up where Joe left off and you can count on Andrea Mitchell getting as many Republican “strategist” on her show to talk about how awful the WH is. This will be their major story most of the day until the evening shows air. Fox and others will beat that drum until this Benghazi story becomes front page news (again). If MSNBC was truly progressive they would push back all day on this foolishness because if the shoe was on the other foot that is exactly what Fox would do but I’ll guarantee you that they wont.

Supporters of President Obama can go to any other station to watch the usual Obama bash fest. We don’t need to tune into MSNBC for that. Phil Griffin is a slow learner and is driven by corporate interests. They are too dumb to realize that this business model will only expedite their demise. There is nothing that compels a supporter such as myself to tune into them. I do want a progressive voice on cable for my knowledge and entertainment but with one or two exceptions MSNBC is not cutting it for me and from the looks at their ratings in this article I’m not the only one feeling this way.

      • 42 derbingleguy
        May 1, 2014 at 9:40 am

If there is no truth to whatever they are saying it’s a farce. I’m all for them giving their opinion but you’ve got to back it up with actual facts. Otherwise they end up looking like FOX News. At some point amongst all of that opinion they need to be an arbiter.

A 24 hour news network (and let’s face it they do claim the news moniker) is the perfect place to do real news. They have the time and the resources to dig deep and really do a thorough job in reporting. Something local and network news cannot accomplish due to time constraints. Repeating the same thing over and over again at the top and bottom of the hour proves the point that they are failing in their mission. The disappointment level is across the board because US News regardless of whether local or cable stinks.

They could have their cake and eat it too if that had the gumption as well as the vision.

        • 43 donna dem 4 obama
          May 1, 2014 at 10:55 am

But cable really isn’t formatted any differently than network or local news. Each hour there is a different show so you constantly hear…’we’ll have to leave it there”. They never make time to drill into covering the issues that progressives want covered. The only show on MSNBC that has the time to really investigate and cover it in detail believe it or not is Morning Joke because I think he is on the air for 3 or 4 hours in the morning and you see that his show is all about infotainment. No other cable show on MSNBC has that kind of air time. Rachel has a good staff that has covered and brought to light some stories but most of us can only take her in small bits at a time before she goes off on one of her tangents. The powers to be IMO seem to be more concerned with getting personalities on air than providing news information.

And I’m not saying they should lie like Fox does my point is that they should stay focused. If there is something negative that comes out about this administration I want a progressive station that seeks the facts from our prospective. There is always two sides to a story. Instead they always choose to feed the frenzy just as bad as Fox. Right now there is another side to this Benghazi story but you’ll hear very little of that on MSNBC. The entire time that we were being hammered by the media over Obamacare MSNBC was right there along with everybody else airing those nut bags town hall and giving voice to their lies. They should have been our go to station during those times but instead we had to see Donald Trump, Sarah Palin and the like touting their foolishness. When a good poll comes out its barely mentioned and when a bad poll comes out its talked about all damn day long. That’s why I say I can go to Fox or CNN for that crap. I want someone who will put those polls in perspective. I see bright intelligent people right here on this blog give a better overall explanation of those polls than I would ever see on MSNBC and that’s a darn shame.

I hear your point about them being able to have their cake and eat it too but I don’t see it happening because they don’t have the vision.

    • 44 anniebella
      May 1, 2014 at 9:47 am

I’m not expecting MSNBC to be a lovefest for President Obama, I am just expecting them to report the news, the facts. If I want to watch Fox, I know were to fine Fox. If I wanted to listen to Limbaugh or read Dowd B.S. I know were to fine it. Beside MSNBC need to get rid of that Farrow guy and bring Martin Bashir back. And Chucky Todd need to go too.

Happy May Day everyone, despite the soppy weather. Back in the “day,” May Day was a big tradition in the women’s college I went to. We had the best breakfast of the year and then we all trooped out in white skirts and danced around the Maypole singing something about Athena (I’ve long forgotten what). There were fun events all day and at about noon, the nearby men’s college (yeah they had those back then) came and stole the Maypole. As weird, nerdy and old-fashioned as this sounds, it was fun and a very welcome break from studying for finals.

May Day was a big deal in my Ia. hometown——big parties and dancing around the maypole with streamers wrapping around the king and queen. Kids all made maybaskets out of construction paper and filled them with candy, delivered to neighbors and friends, rang doorbell, ran away! Iowa fun! And then couldn’t believe that whenever I mentioned ‘maybasket day’ to others later in life, no one had ever heard of it.

May Day is an ancient celebration, spring had finally arrived, longer to be challenged by wintery weather, in northern climes.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_Day Somehow I still have a May Pole we constructed during a preschool festival, and I will go up in a short while and put it into the PeaPatch! Perhaps some of the residents will want to dance around it later. It is a beautiful summer morning here, which is of course, ludicrous, as in Seattle we should not have weather like this until July, or August! Back to normal cool, cloudy and lovely rain tomorrow!! Polls Show Republicans Have Enthusiasm Edge but Nobody Agrees with Them

    • 58 hopefruit2
      May 1, 2014 at 8:57 am

I don’t find it maddening because I really don’t buy that “enthusiasm edge” nonsense. All of 2012, we heard about that same “enthusiasm edge/gap” and the media has been sticking with that narrative – despite the fact that the GOP has not won a major election cycle since 2010. Obviously, this “enthusiasm” metric 4-6 months out is no longer an adequate predictor of people’s actual voting decisions come election day.

The best predictor of 2014 election is the 2013 election – in which the Dems had the “turnout edge” and “voting edge.” And keep in mind, that was RIGHT in the middle of the ACA website glitch =Obama’s Katrina media/GOP created narrative….

      • 59 carolyn
        May 1, 2014 at 9:12 am

Here’s my simplistic explanation for this “enthusiasm edge.” WE, people on our side of the spectrum, are working…..we are not sitting at home answering every telephone call that comes in.
Personally speaking, if we do not know who is on the other end of the call, (we have caller ID) we don’t answer. And, pollsters don’t leave a message and ask us to call back. I think there are many millions like us.

Plus, Democrats don’t get revved up until the Fall. We are a disparate group that takes a while to coalesce. Also, please remember that many people do not yet know who is actually running in November. Primaries are still taking place in many states.

        • 64 hopefruit2
          May 1, 2014 at 9:30 am

That’s why there’s something inherently dishonest about the media’s presenting polling about an abstraction 6 months out as being predictive of something concrete in November.

Grunwald’s book The New New Deal was written about the benefits from the stimulus. He was the only one trumpeting all the successes of this program and how it not only saved us from the brink, but kickstarted PBO’s agenda. MG is a huge Obama supporter.

Can someone please tell what exactly does Ronan Farrow bring to the table that enabled him to get a prime day time slot on MSNBC? Other than wearing nice threads, and having dreamy eyes, this guy does not have an ounce of personality. His interviews are so pedestrian that they boarder on being silly and sophomoric. Whoever at MSNBC though his hiring was necessary needs to be reassigned.

I think it was all a part of MSNBC’s desire to appeal to the young Libertarian crowd..

    Hello TODers!

Amk, I’m so sorry you and your family have been subjected to this terrorist event. There are no words, really. I’m just glad you and yours are safe and my condolences to all those who suffered.

This is how dumb Republicans think you are

President Obama launched a clean energy revolution and Republicans are still whining about Solyndra
That Republicans are still pointing and laughing at Solyndra in 2014 is ridiculous. That they’re doing it in 2014 knowing that America’s solar capacity grew 418 percent in 4 years almost exclusively as a result of boost of the Stimulus is beyond insulting.

There’s nothing theoretical or debatable about this. This is an undeniable success of a magnitude that the right cannot even accept the government is capable of sparking.

Uh oh—-Loony Lunatics patrolling the Bundy ranch, guns locked and loaded, are now fighting each other in some sort of Wacky Insane Civil War—–big dispute has something to do with AG Holder sending in drones to take them all out, or something. These camouflaged nuts playing soldier and war need to be mercifully rounded up and delivered to a medical facility for much needed mental health help.

Morning everyone. So glad to hear that you weren’t in the train station this morning, amk…good thoughts go out to those that were. Hope everyone is alright.

The President doesn’t “joke around” with them – or spend his weekends at the ranch where they can hang over the fence and chat. The President talks to the people and bypasses the RW WHPC – poor dears don’t think it is fair.

More transparent skin color wise. This is the anniversary of PBO eliminating OBL. The gop/msm must go into overdrive to limit any gain dems may derive. This explains Dowd’s nonsense and resurrection of Benghazi. Don’t get upset, just realize the game being played.

      Happy Thursday deserflower!

You know, when I saw the picture Chipsticks posted up top, it reminded me of how they (repukes) swooped in and took President Obama credit for bringing down Osama, and they marched from network to network giving the credit to Bush. The most important decision that the President had to make; go in and take Osama down, they gave the credit to Bush and Cheney policies. MSNBC allowed these loud mouths to parade this on their network for almost 2 weeks.

Had the President’s mission failed, he would have been a one term President. Now, it’s a matter of time before they take credit for OBAMACARE.

They hate President Obama; smart, good looking, articulate, did I say smart? fine a_ _ man, brilliant, deep thinking, caring soul, beautiful spirited man, loving human being, family man, mastermind, tall, did I say good looking? loving husband and father, dedicated to human rights for “all” and justice for “all”, fairness, giving, physically capable (HECTIC schedule- ladies), 1st class, BEAUTIFUL SOUL. They are inferior to his capabilities because, you know, he is a “BLACK MAN.”

They can’t imagine what VICTORY lies ahead for President Obama and his team. The are scared s_ _ _ l_ _ _ as to what GREATNESS HE WILL LEAVE ON THIS COUNTRY..I for one am here to say; REPUKES! you haven’t seen anything yet because the BEST is still yet to come.

    Good morning, TOD.
I read all the comments on this thread and the Politicus article and all its comments and here is my general sad take on what is happening now:
There is a virtual News Blackout of the President of the United States.
If POTUS is mentioned it is in a derogatory way.
    Asia trip?
    Minimum wage speech yesterday?
MSNBC is doing what every other outlet is doing– not worse not better. Why tune in??
At the same time the front page of the NY Times is writing about restoring the Clinton legacy.
The Clinton that sawed and weakened the legs of the economic table that collapsed when GWB threw 2 wars and a richmans tax cut on the table.
    That Clinton.
He wants to jump on the Progressive bandwagon now.
Older folks like me recall that Clinton removed the laws that separated savings banks from gambling houses.
We remember that Clinton dismantled anti-trust. And so on.

TOD is the only news outlet for the True Story of PBO. I love all of you.

Gramm, Leach, Bliley was passed with veto proof majorities

The Senate was 90-8 and the House was 362-97.. Most Dems voted for it.

Clinton’s hands aren’t clean that’s for sure but Bush and Bush alone owns the economic collapse.
The Times trying to restore Clinton’s legacy? That’s rich.
