Good morning on this day of torrential rains and almost Biblical flooding. Of all the things I thought I might feel on my birthday, being like Noah wasn’t one of them. To everyone with sunshine, congratulations. To everyone else, keep dry and keep safe.
That’s a good thought – I’ll remember that next time my world is in flood – I like rainy days as long as they are not accompanied by violent storms. It is a wonderful reason to have a lazy restful day – probably reminds me of the days we couldn’t make it to school because the roads were flooded 🙂
Yeah, Chips, I turn a painful corner today on a new decade. One of my two older sisters gloated that I was finally in their decade! Sometimes sisters can be a real pain.
Thank you, Chips. Yes, when you finally outgrow those teen years and hit 20, it’s a rude awakening. I’m glad you’ve come to terms with the trauma of it all. I will try my valiant best.
Happy Bday jackie! Rain rain go away, little YOUNG jackie wants to play! But—“how in the heck can I wash my neck if it ain’t gonna rain no more?” Have a fun, festive day, J!
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, jackie!!!! I hope you have some wonderful plans that will enhance your enjoyment of this special day. Please take time to take in how much we appreciate you here in TODville. You are a treasured member of our shared space.
GM Chips and RanMan – gosh the early birds have been early the last couple of days – would it be the danny wanting to be up with the birds – or perhaps the change of season – starting to get chilly in my world
Hope all is well with our TODer who are experience such horrible weather. Where I am it’s just unseasonably cold, but I hope that all can stay safe and dry!!
Speaking of eating trees, on Saturday, a very large brown bear literally ate the door in my sister’s attached studio (converted garage). He devoured the door, leaving it in shreds and attacked a covered plastic tub of dried corn, which he then ate plastic and all. She screamed in panic when she realized what happened, called Wildlife control, who told her she had permission to shoot the bear!!! As if….. Instead she had a steel door installed that day and the darn bear came back, tried to eat through steel and finally shuffled away. Ah wilderness!
Good morning TOD family. Happy birthday to @jackiegrumbacher! Hope I spelled that right. Lookin’ good! Woke 4:45 to tornado warning from phone here in Piedmont NC. Storm siren; then 5:30 am all clear. Storm moved northeasterly way, up I 85 toward VA. Thinking of neighbors in mobile homes, and first responders on alert. Take care TOD. You are all precious to me.
Dudette, I love the way you know exactly what works for each person. This is one of my absolute favorites and one of the best film musicals of all time. Best movie to watch if you’re feeling low (or wet).
It probably has been reported late last night but just in case:
The LA Clippers and their great Coach, Doc Rivers, pulled themselves together and won their game last night. Now they lead 3-2 in their series!!!!
From the other side of the world I don’t follow the game – nor did I see the result – but that is SO good to hear Vicki – they had a great day yesterday on all sides.
The picture of our First Couple is breathtaking. FLOTUS is especially gorgeous! TOD is an absolutely unique place in the Internet universe. It is the best place to come for news about POTUS. I really get a feeling for what he’s doing each day and the good news about him.

Jackiegrumbacher, Happy Birthday! We share something in common. Mine was Sunday, April 27. I wish you good health, peace, affection, laughter, and simply a blessed life. May God grant you many, many more birthdays.
Oh NCLB, I didn’t know that and I’m proud to share an ‘end of month birthday’ time with you. I hope you had a glorious day and with many, many more in your future.
I often wonder when i read these diatribes…who are they talking to…certainly not blk and brwn folks…so it must be geared to the whit e folks in America,…also I think that it is a way of controlling the conversation….of trying to muzzle anyone from speaking out against racism …esp the institutional variety..
This was from yesterday so you might have this info already. I’ve been kind of erratic about keeping up and have to leave shortly. It’s wonderful news though and just what POTUS intended.
AAAAH YES….THEE POTHOLE DISASTER! YES FOLKS…HERE IN INDY AND REGARDLESS OF WHAT MIKE PENCE SAYS…WE HAVE POTHOLES HERE CONSIDERED TO BE LARGE ENUFF TO BE CLASSIFIED AS BASEMENT APARTMENTS! IT’S DISGUSTING! OF COURSE THEN WE HAVE MAYOR BALLARD…ANOTHER MISTAKE ON THE BALLOT…WHO CONTINUES TO ROB ALL GRANTS FOR WHATEVER HE AND HIS WIFE ENJOY PERSONALLY. THEN THERE IS ME…WITH A 14 YEAR OLD CAR…SUFFERING TIRES FROM THE HIGHWAY JUMP-A-THON AND SKIPPING CDS…BECAUSE I HIT ONE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY FAVORITE SONG…GO FIGURE!
It’s awful in Chicago, too, and that’s Rahm Emanuel!
People out of work, infrastructure crumbling – and for the first time in our history, GOP has blocked any and all infrastructure jobs bills. Despicable.
For anyone who communicates with Jim Messina – can you tell him to stop tweeting that contraception is free under the ACA – NOTHING is FREE under health insurance – some items have co-pays – some do not – but NOTHING is free.
Saying that stuff is free, sends me over the deep end! YOU PAY FOR IT WITH YOUR PREMIUMS! It just doesn’t have a co pay…..they should just say that it’s paid through your premiums and leave it at that. I’m with Imani on this one!
– U.S. private employers added 220,000 workers in April, the highest amount since November and above analysts’ expectations, a report by a payrolls processor showed on Wednesday.
Gains in the prior month were revised higher, to 209,000 from 191,000. Economists surveyed by Reuters had forecast that the ADP National Employment Report would show a gain of 210,000 jobs in April.
U.S. consumer sentiment rose sharply in the first quarter as optimism about the economic outlook improved, according to a global survey which also showed rising confidence in debt-laden euro zone countries.
Globally, consumer confidence returned to pre-financial crisis levels in the first three months of this year, at its highest since the first quarter of 2007, the survey by global information and insights company Nielsen showed on Wednesday.
Improving job prospects are bolstering consumer sentiment. Nearly half of survey respondents globally, or 49 percent, expected the job market would be good or excellent in the upcoming year and positive perceptions about local job prospects over the next 12 months increased in the first quarter in every region except Latin America.
It’s not often that a Supreme Court justice makes a factual blunder in a formal opinion.
Legal experts say Justice Antonin Scalia erred in his dissent in the 6-2 decision Tuesday to uphold the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority to regulate coal pollution that moves across state lines. The Reagan-appointed jurist argued that the majority’s decision was inconsistent with a unanimous 2001 ruling which he mistakenly said shot down EPA efforts to consider costs when setting regulations.
“This is not the first time EPA has sought to convert the Clean Air Act into a mandate for cost-effective regulation. Whitman v. American Trucking Assns., Inc., 531 U. S. 457 (2001), confronted EPA’s contention that it could consider costs in setting [National Ambient Air Quality Standards],” Scalia wrote in his dissent, which was joined by Justice Clarence Thomas.
The problem: the EPA’s position in the 2001 case was exactly the opposite. The agency was defending its refusal to consider cost as a counter-weight to health benefits when setting certain air quality standards. It was the trucking industry that wanted the EPA to factor in cost. The 9-0 ruling sided with the EPA. The author of the ruling that Scalia mischaracterized? Scalia himself.
The conservative justice’s error was noted by University of California-Berkeley law professor Dan Farber, who called it “embarrassing” and a “cringeworthy blunder.”
