I noticed that since PBO got re-elected, certain folks like Cindy McCain and Meghan McCain just disappeared from the media spotlight. W’happened?

Cindy was mostly in hiding anyways (nothing will convince me that woman isn’t an abused(verbally) wife), but Meghan has thankfully played least in sight. The last I remember of Cindy was when she appeared in the ad about same sex marriage (I think) and made some kind of supportive comment and Johnnie McC (IMO) made her withdraw her comment lickety-split.

If you folks have never frequented Rational Wiki, you really should do so. This is the top News of the World story right now:

Lavrov: Mr. President, the men we put into Novorossiya still aren’t giving up the OSCE observers. *Putin frowns*
Lavrov: And the Americans seem to know where your fortune is. *Putin chokes on Chicken Kiev*

“Nonetheless, it is clear that the Administration also has a “glass half full” view of the controversial deal between the two rival Palestinian factions. Gordon told the Jewish representatives that it would be very difficult to achieve a peace agreement with “half a Palestinian entity” and not with those who are under the rule of Hamas. You can’t make peace with only a part of the Palestinian people, Gordon said.

The Administration remains committed to the peace process, Gordon added, but is now adopting a wait and see attitude regarding developments inside the Palestinian camp. The U.S. does not oppose new Palestinian elections, and it will judge any new Palestinian coalition by its deeds, not by its words, he said.

Gordon said that the Administration believes that Abbas’ main motivation for advancing the talks with Hamas was not to achieve a reconciliation but to fortify his own leadership position at a time when Hamas is “on the ropes”, as Gordon phrased it. Abbas seized on an opportunity to strive for an agreement – both with Hamas and with Israel – from a position of strength, Gordon said.”

If you’re near a TV, turn to HBO because it is airing a fantastic documentary on Ann Richards, Democratic Governor of Texas.

What a power house. Can’t wait for Texas to return back to its blue days.

Loved Ann, and loved her friend Molly Ivins – the former took down Bush I nicely, and the latter went after Shrub, Bush II.

Just a warning, if you read the Forbes article, be prepared for a big dose of derp panting for yet another mindless, and likely in this case, apocalyptic war.

While Putin and Hitler’s megalomania and actions have historical parallels, the world of Hitler and the world of today are vastly different. You can quickly detect a fool, or a #NEONCONSTER, by their evidencing not even the slightest clue to the differences.

Oh, I finally saw Brendan Rogers’ post-match interview. What a whiny little baby. “That’s not the way we play, we play with creativity, Jose can show me his CV but it doesn’t matter”, wah wah wah. Yes, Brendan, Jose has a CV and you, well, don’t. Hell, if it’s a choice between MCFC and LFC I’ll pull for City.

        • April 28, 2014 at 9:36 pm

I was feeling very alone on planet earth yesterday in my loathing of Rogers, now we are one. He’s a ridiculous dick, an ego maniac who thought he was Shankly – 🙄 – I would give ANYTHING for his team not to win the league. But I have a sinking feeling they’ll still do it 😥

“For more than thirty years in the United States Senate, I didn’t just speak words in support of Israel, I walked the walk when it came time to vote and when it came time to fight. As Secretary of State, I have spent countless hours working with Prime Minister Netanyahu and Justice Minister Livni because I believe in the kind of future that Israel not only wants, but Israel deserves. I want to see a two state solution that results in a secure Jewish state and a prosperous Palestinian state, and I’ve actually worked for it.

I will not allow my commitment to Israel to be questioned by anyone, particularly for partisan, political purposes, so I want to be crystal clear about what I believe and what I don’t believe.

VC, it makes me angry that the best SOS in decades and a decent and honorable man has to defend himself against the slander of slimeball Cruz, who isn’t fit to clean Kerry’s shoes. People who bear none of the risk, do none of the work and have the least understanding always think they can speak the loudest and throw the most mud.

    I was already feeling very protective of PBO and worrying about how tired he and his team must be feeling by now;

    but then the photo included above reinforced to me how exhausted he must be – yes it is an earlier photo but it captures the mood;

    I am almost tempted to start one of those White House petitions requesting that PBO takes some rest – not that he would agree;

and isn’t Dr. Angela Merkel coming to meet with PBO?

the worst part is the crappy congress back in town to cause more headaches!!!!

      April 28, 2014 at 9:57 pm

Global, I read during the 2008 campaign that PBO has learned to refresh himself with catnaps, which I’m sure he takes regularly once he enters AF1. When he turns around after waving goodbye at the top of the steps, I assume he takes time to chill out a little and restore his energy. That’s what I’ve always hoped was true.

        probably true about the naps!

but also don’t forget Mr. Jon Favs’ talk in Dublin this St Patrick’s Day in which he confessed that PBO and his speech-writing team are usually re-working the scripts of his speeches during the AF1 rides (sometimes until PBO is just about to step on the stage)

    In cool geek news:

A team of Catalan archaeologists have returned from the ancient Egyptian city of Oxyrhynchus after uncovering a mystery underground structure in buried tombs which date from the 6th and 7th centuries.

It is reportedly decorated with Coptic images — or paintings by a group who number among the earliest Christians — and may contain one of the earliest-known representations of Jesus Christ.

The head of the expedition, Josep Padró, who has spent over 20 years excavating sites in the area, described the discovery to La Vanguardia newspaper as “exceptional”.

It has caused such as stir that even Egypt’s Minister of Antiquities, Mohamed Ibrahim, has become personally involved.

I remember reading an interview with him during the 2008 campaign, and he was asked about sleeping and how was he able to get rest with all he had to do and the excitement, and the planning, and the never ending decisions. He said that he had “learned” to sleep when he had the chance and when he needed to. He had learned to clear his mind, relax, and he just slept. I think of this when he’s on these long trips. I also know he has a good quiet bedroom on Air Force One. I know he has work to do, but he is incredibly disciplined, and knows he must be rested and ready for anything, (including Ed Henry).

Interesting how all of us here care for him and his health and rest. I think he will come back rejuvenated from this trip, knowing that our Pacific relationships are stronger than ever.

    Great job, Mr. President! Bravo!

BTW, if you have the stomach for it, Peter Clifford continues to compile more facts ‘on the ground’ in Syria than any other repository (English language) http://www.petercliffordonline.com/syria-news-3

This is full scale civil war and nothing you are going to read or view is pleasant. Just know that irrespective of all Iran, Russia and Hezbollah are providing Assad, he will never win. How many decades it takes to rebuild Syria is an open question.

In the 1980s Rubik’s Cubes seemed to be everywhere, but there are still legions of people obsessed with the coloured puzzles.

The record for a human is 5.55 seconds. A robot can do it in 3.253. Labour Party leader Ed Miliband takes one-and-a-half minutes.

    Subject: Harley

    > The inventor of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle,
    > Arthur Davidson, died and went to heaven.
    > …
    > At the gates, St. Peter told Arthur:

    >
    > Arthur thought about it for a minute and then said,
    > “I want to hang out with God.’
    >
    > St. Peter took Arthur to the Throne Room, and
    > introduced him to God.
    >
    > God recognized Arthur and commented, ‘Okay,
    > so you were the one who invented the
    > Harley-Davidson motorcycle?
    >
    > Arthur said, ‘Yeah, that’s me…’
    >
    > God commented:

    > something that’s pretty unstable, makes
    > noise and pollution and can’t run without

    >
    > Arthur was a bit embarrassed, but he
    > finally spoke, ‘Excuse me, but aren’t you the
