In a spirit of good will, I hereby leave the door open for vc – now that she’s back from work. 🙂

Just popping in to regale you with tonight’s menu.

Broiled flank steak. Seasoning: garlic salt flaked with parsley and garlic pepper.
Evoo sauteed zucchini and yellow squash.

And am enjoying a rather good Fess Parker red table wine at the moment.

Carry on! Hope to be back to regular schedule next week.

Stepped out onto the deck earlier to witness a pair of bald eagles lifting on the thermals… It was fantastic to watch, they were up and away so fast! BUT! Somehow I got it on video! Thank you, Steve Jobs, I hope you are in a very good place!

Not to be a downer, but tomorrow (Saturday, Apr 26) is the 28th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown.

In my mind, I thought Chernobyl was part of Belarus, but it’s on Ukraine side of the border.

This article is from Mar 27, and discusses an April 4 meeting. I wasn’t able to find the results of this meeting (not an ace Googler).

Another wrinkle in the Ukraine crisis.

“An emergency meeting of concerned nations and the funding coordinator, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is to be held April 4 in London to discuss the money shortfall for the sarcophagus.

There are warnings time is running out to avert a second Chernobyl catastrophe due to the precarious condition of the sarcophagus.

‘This is why it is very important for us today not to lose time,’ said [lawmaker] Kalchenko. ‘Perhaps we have three to four years left to finish the construction.’”

So, tomorrow may possibly be a very rough day. My boss is off, our assistant is off, and the other librarian is out sick. So I may be on my own. And yet I’m not stressed. Why? Because like PBO, I know I’m awesome and can handle it.

Way cool Dudette! I taught both of Ann’s kids when they were in preschool. Really nice family. My daughter did a bit of babysitting for them. After wacthing this, I clicked on the Behind The Music video. In the last 10 minutes, there is an absolutely hysterical antecdote over the GOP violation of copyright laws by using the Heart song Barracuda during the 2008 campaign. Totally worth listening to. It was nice to hear the whole story, and to see the girls looking and doing so well. Thanks for posting this!

G7 leaders agree to ‘move swiftly’ ……….

It will be interesting to see how the jackals report this development. Let’s see if they are able to find a negative angle. I watch the WHPC and State Department briefings and you can tell they are itching to report some breakdown between President Obama and the rest of the G7 leaders on sanctions.

“The work of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry never ceases to delight us.

Today’s statement by the Ministry is quite extensive, but it lays everything out on the shelf. This includes the fact that Ukraine does not need Russian “peacekeepers,” the difference between separatists and Russian-speaking Ukrainians (Moscow is convinced that it amounts to the same thing), and the right of Ukraine to defend itself against terrorism through the use of force.

This rhetoric is relayed in a very educated and convincing manner. We must understand that these very guys are responsible for forming the attitudes of the international community towards events in our country. And they are truly doing a great job.”

Always worth reading every word of his updates – both the ‘bad’ and the ‘good’ ….

President Obama Tears Apart CNN’s Lazy and Biased Press Conference Question

By: Jason Easleymore from Jason Easley

With respect to the other issues that you raise, our position, Jim, the United States’ position is that countries should abide by international law; that those laws, those rules, those norms are violated when you gas children, or when you invade the territory of another country. Now, the implication of the question I think is, is that each and every time a country violates one of those norms the United States should go to war, or stand prepared to engage militarily, and if it doesn’t then somehow we’re not serious about those norms. Well, that’s not the case.

      April 25, 2014 at 11:55 pm

Dam Obama you haven’t lied to us and invaded a country. You haven’t started a war, which cost us 4000 soldiers lives, and one trillion dollars, man what’s up with you?.

  42. April 25, 2014 at 11:17 pm

“This is the Maidan generation: Too young to be burdened by the experience of the Soviet Union, old enough to remember the failure of the Orange Revolution, they don’t want their children to be standing again on the Maidan 15 years from now. They started by assembling a few dozen experts. A month ago, they numbered more than 80; today it’s at least 150. Testifying to their new clout, they have formed a “committee to support reforms” that will hold biweekly meetings with the interim cabinet of ministers and parliamentary groups.

For them, this is a race against time. Notwithstanding events in the east, they believe they must build the foundations for structural change before the May 25 presidential election. So they work round the clock, organizing public meetings and keeping pressure on the government and Parliament. To bring to life proposed legislation that has been stalled for years, the activists have proposed a “reanimation package” of reforms, along with a detailed schedule for their adoption. This week, some of them went to Odessa and Dnipropetrovsk to present their initiatives to people in the east who, they claim, are just as worried about corruption and abuse of power as people in the west.

Ukraine’s politicians are taking notice. Quick to get the message, for one, was former Prime Minister Yulia V. Tymoshenko, who is running for president and fighting to restore her credibility. Appearing recently on the popular TV show “Shuster Live,” she told Ms. Hopko that she would commit to working with her group and implement the reforms it advocates. Ms. Hopko explained the strategy: “We’re asking all the leading candidates to make a public commitment to support our reforms. We have to use them before it’s too late. The system is attacking us, so we fight back.”

This generation of activists is the antidote to the Putin system. “The Kremlin wants to create the feeling that Ukraine is a failed state,” said Ms. Gumenyuk, and they want to prove him wrong. They are the future of Ukraine — and the people we should help.”
