Night owl chat – Hall & Oates

Today has been a GOOD day, so time for some music.

When I think of Hall & Oates, I think of summers hanging out in the park, and nights spent watching MTV. So, a little blue-eyed Philly soul with the latest members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

No question that President Obama and Chancellor Merkel know exactly how the whack Tzar Vlad – really hard …

Germany’s Merkel Gets Tough on Russia

“Angela Merkel wasn’t in a hurry to inflict economic pain on Moscow. Cautious, pragmatic, and mindful of her country’s business ties to Russia, the German chancellor doggedly tried to defuse the Ukraine crisis through back-channel diplomacy and frequent phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Those efforts failed—and now Merkel looks ready to embrace the hit-’em-where-it-hurts sanctions that some U.S. politicians have been pushing for. In mid-April, Germany stopped granting licenses for arms exports to Russia and put on hold a plan for Airbus Group (AIR:FP) to sell $973 million worth of satellite technology to Moscow. Europe “shouldn’t be filled with fear” that sanctions could provoke retaliation, Merkel said in Berlin on April 5.

Behind the scenes, Berlin is making plans for the next phase of sanctions, says a high-ranking German official who declined to be identified in keeping with government policy. The measures under consideration would be wider-ranging and more harmful to Russian business than the limited asset freezes and visa bans already in place, this official says. A possible next step: targeted measures such as curbs on critical high-technology and military exports to Russia. In one of the most extreme scenarios being discussed in Europe and the U.S., Russia could be locked out of Swift, the Belgium-based international money-transfer system, as happened to Iran in 2012. That would cripple Russia’s banking system.

The trip drew a rebuke from Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, who said German companies should show that Germany can’t accept Putin’s “imperial policy.””

A bit of short-term economic ‘pain’ by Germany and the EU is vastly less of a risk to their sustainability than would be any form of appeasement of Tzar Vlad and I have no doubt that that very fact is a well discussed reality between our President and Chancellor Merkel.

A certain ex half term governor does this every quarter – expenses looking like postage, mailings, consultants etc – it costs a lot to raise money for political candidates

It was sooooooooo good. Olivia Pope has the worst parents on the planet.

The last scene with Jake was a let down but I know everyone knows it doesn’t mean anything and Jake is fooling himself because season 4 will swing back once again to D.C.

Just listened to Hall and Oates and sorry but your generation grew up with some of the weirdest bands and music ever.

Listening to Hall and Oates and all that kept running through my mind is WTF is this?! This is what was called music at some point in this country? I’m sorry but that is noise and Hall and Oates should be ashamed of themselves for assaulting millions of ears and fooling them into thinking this is music.

Foo Fighters is music. Stevie Wonder is music. Hall and Oates is what is played in hell.

    • April 17, 2014 at 11:22 pm

We also grew up with U2, and Elvis Costello, and the Clash. You may not like this music, but that doesn’t make it stupid. You’re just from a different generation. And the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame sought fit to induct Hall & Oates, as it did with Stevie Wonder.

        April 17, 2014 at 11:28 pm

Yeah, I’m gonna say the board was drunk on something when they inducted them because they are not fit to stand next to Stevie Wonder and call what they do; music.

        No….nooo….no. Exit stage left.

        • April 17, 2014 at 11:29 pm

Just remember: in 20 years, people will say the same about the music you hold dear. It will happen.

And in another 20 beyond that 20, you’ll all be as old as I am, and like ALL the music. Even the music your mother played 40 years before, which made you gag. Truly gag. 🙂

I don’t think my parent’s generation of music was stupid – and my parents in turn appreciated music from my generation (and later ones too!) In fact I know for a fact that at least one of my parents is currently more acquainted with today’s music than I am. I appreciate music from ALL eras… 🙂 🙂

LOL. I was listening to it and going no…noooo…no. They need to be banned. What Billy Joel is to you, is what Hall and Oates just became to me. OMG. They actually stood on stage and called this music? LOL.

We were hip before hip was cool, young lady. As Eric Cartman would say, “Respect our authoritay.” LOL. You young folks are something else. It’s a good thing we oldsters love you youngsters in spite of your poor taste in music!

What are you – crazy? Hall and Oates was THE BOMB. Maneater, Sara Smile, Kiss on My List…swoon. I heart you to death, NerdyWonka, but you. are. WRONG. I’ll just chalk it up to maybe you needing some rest. We’ll forget you wrote what you did – after you apologize.

Love the Hall & Oates collection, LL. I have one question, though, where is Sara Smiles?

I used to listen to these guys when I was in college. This post brings back some very good memories! Thanks!

    From Rep Lewis’ website:

Apr 17, 2014 Issues: Children Women and Families, Poverty
WASHINGTON – On Monday, the Georgia Department of Human Services received a letter from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) warning that due to its continued failure to meet federal requirements in the effective disbursement of supplemental nutrition assistance program benefits (SNAP), often referred to as “food stamps,” it risks suffering a $15 million cut in federal funding, if the state does not become compliant within 30 days.

OMG. Why not just round up the poor, put them in starvation camps, and be done with it. Man’s inhumanity to man (and women and children) is appalling.

      • April 18, 2014 at 1:08 am

I live in GA. The elephant in the room is how these folks can continue calling themselves Christians and do this to the poor. None of this matters to those on the right here in GA, though. They’ll still claim they’re Christians and will still vote for politicians who will only make the lives of the poor more miserable, SMH. Sad.
