We tied – enjoy your day Lynn – today was almost weather perfect in my world – Autumn in eastern Australia is good.

So glad you’re enjoying the weather there. I’m sitting wrapped in a blankie with 2 wood stoves going! The central N.Y. weatherman threw us an 80 degree day followed by a 24 degree low last night. Yipes.

I read on TOD earlier about the ice and snow – I probably should have avoided the “perfect weather” buzz – it is, however, like your spring, very late in coming – until the last couple of days we have had temperatures in the 90s – which is way too hot for April down under.

The weather is weird – no doubt – so do stay warm & dry.

I don’t mind hearing “perfect weather” buzz, 99ts. It’s all good. Early fall is one of my favorite times. It’s the best riding weather and the woods are so beautiful. Get some rest and dream of that grandbabe’s lovely face!

Anyone that mentions grandbabes to me is an all round wonderful person πŸ™‚ – she was here yesterday – re-organizing the world in grandma’s house πŸ™‚

And I am reminded that some call autumn “fall” – our language gives away the where of our lives. πŸ™‚

Mornin’, Chips. I sure do love greeting the day with our president smiling at us. Was thinking that yesterday will go down in history for that Community College in Allegheny County. No president has probably even known it existed, let alone visited. Those young people will be telling their grandchildren about it someday.

So true HF. The ODS is off the hook. No matter what happens, the first response from the rwnj’s and the msm is how can this be negatively associated with President Obama. One right wing website even found a way to blame the blood moon lunar eclipse on PBO. Imagine that.

    • 39 vcprezofan2
      April 17, 2014 at 8:41 am

Seriously, Hf, I’m thinking that PBO is one of those lights who CANNOT be ignored – he tugs at you viscerally with or without your permission. If you are smart /smirk/ like we here are along with many in U.S. and the rest of the world, you see the goodness and respond positively. You want to be enlightened so you stand close, follow the light and try to emulate it where you can. You definitively choose the happiness it reveals. OTH, if your soul is dark, you still sense the light, but preferring darkness you cover your eyes with one hand, wave the other around to find your way, and in so doing you hit out, hurting yourself at times, destroying stuff at others, grasping some of what your hand encounters and throwing it out of your way even if it would have been of help to you. /smh/ Luckily, we all have the potential for free choice, and we choose light!

Threat of armed conflict subdues in Nevada (26 minutes)

Rachel Maddow discusses the media hype over the land dispute between Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and the Bureau of Land Management despite the recent standstill in the conflict.

The racists right wing wanted a gun battle in Nevada between that welfare rancher and his racists supporters and the BLM, so they could blame one person, Barack H. Obama.

    • April 17, 2014 at 6:39 pm

I watched this episode really liking how Rachel called out Fox on trying to escalate the problem and saying how irresponsible and dangerous their reporting/inciting is.

CNN had Martin Savage in a 777 flight simulator for over 30 days in Mississauga Ontario. Now they have him in a Submersible in Vancouver 50 ft under water.

The company in Mississauga has fired the simulator instructor because he ” embarrassed them ” by his casual style of dressing. ( After he trained his replacement )

Putin was asked a hypothetical question, if Putin was drowning do he think Obama would save him? He said yes, he think “decent” Obama would save him from drowning. The question should have been would he save Obama? I trust Putin as much as I trust any of those Tea Republicans, as much as I trust something like those racists right wing talk radio hosts, as much as I trust Fox B.S. news.

Interesting because I remember when the sounding alarm was that people were fleeing the cities for the ‘burbs. What I have noticed, with almost all the young adults I know/know about, is they are most interested in living in cities or in towns where they can walk to everything—-bars, restaurants, shopping—–no longer interested in far suburbs or anywhere where they have to do a lot of driving. Young people also now more interested in living where there is the richness of diversity in the population.

    • 89 hopefruit2
      April 17, 2014 at 9:00 am

Hmmm…I agree with the young people!

    • 90 57andfemale
      April 17, 2014 at 9:08 am

here in the Chicago area, the suburban flee meant long, expensive commutes. Now that gas prices are high, and no one has the political will to fix our infrastructure and roads, it’s a real pain to get to work. Both parents working, less and less time to spend with kids. Cities become more attractive.

    • 91 jackiegrumbacher
      April 17, 2014 at 9:26 am

This is a welcome trend, Dotster. The suburbs are boring places that require constant driving for the smallest needs and few even have sidewalks. If I was starting out, I’d much rather live in a city and have every cultural advantage at my fingertips and also have places to walk. I hate the sameness of the suburbs and feel energized by all the diversity when I visit a city.

    • April 17, 2014 at 10:05 am

Agree. It’s about convenience, choice and access. Living in an urban area, on any given day you can choose from a huge range of lots of amenities or you can choose none of it. It’s all right in front of you if you want it. And the diversity of people, language, ideas, food, culture is GOLD.

Charles and David Koch “added $1.3 billion to their collective fortune yesterday on reports that U.S. industrial production gained more than forecast. The surge elevated their net worth to more than $100 billion,” according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

“The Koch’s ascent comes as Freedom Partners, one of their fundraising networks, last week aired its first batch of television ads targeted at this year’s U.S. Senate races, including commercials knocking Democratic Senator Mark Udall of Colorado and Representative Bruce Braley of Iowa for supporting President Barack Obama’s health-care law.”

Consumer confidence rose from a nine-week low as Americans grew more upbeat about the economy, their finances and the buying climate.

The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort (COMFCOMF) Index rose to minus 29.1 in the period ended April 13 from minus 31.9 the prior week, the weakest reading since the start of February. The monthly economic expectations gauge improved in April after falling to a four-month low.

Sentiment recovered broadly last week among most income groups, with consumers’ spirits lifted in part by warmer weather that’s helped lower home-heating bills. Employment opportunities that propel bigger wage gains will provide Americans the wherewithal to extend a recent pickup in spending, supporting the economy.

β€œBoth the labor market and growth have stabilized, albeit at low levels, which has bolstered the confidence of Americans in their own individual personal finances and the state of the national economy,” said Joseph Brusuelas, a senior economist at Bloomberg LP in New York. β€œAcross the board in income levels, you saw broad improvement.”

Another report today showed the number of Americans filing for unemployment insurance payments last week hovered near the lowest level in almost seven years, showing the job market is making progress. Jobless claims increased by 2,000 to 304,000 in the week ended April 12 from a revised 302,000 the prior period that was the lowest since September 2007, according to Labor Department figures.

    Consumer COMFORT??? Lord.
