Raise you hand if you like Barbra Streisand’s “Songbird.” (raises hand).
Raise your hand if you don’t like it.
Raise your hand if you don’t know what the hell I’m talking about.

What I logged on to post before but couldn’t resist the urge to be first:

In NYC NAN speech yesterday, Pressident Obama gave a big shout-out to Mayor de Blasio to congratulate the mayor for enacting universal pre-kindergarten ed. PBO did NOT mention Gov. Cuomo who tried his best to steal all de Blasio’s thunder on this issue!

The Governor of New York is a monumental Turd. When de Blasio scheduled an education rally in the capital of NYS Cuomo showed up with the Queen of For-Profit Schools in NYC Eva Moskowitz. The Queen and her husband pay themselves $1,000,000 a year to funnel money out of public education into their charter schools.
Queen Moskowiz closed her schools on the day of de Blasio’s rally and bussed thousands of her schoolkids and their parents to stand with her and Governor Cuomo to drown out the mayor and his message. Of course the MSM covered the Cuomo and Queen rally and not Mayor de Blasio’s event.
Then to top off their 1% action the Gov. & Eva overloaded the TV with anti-de Blasio ads—$3 million dollars worth.

DeBlasio gave in on the charter school issue and declared pre-k a triumph. A mixed bag on days 1-100. Stay tuned.

Batcrap crazy. All these little takers….look at the photo of the little kid holding the sign his parents made for him…he doesn’t even know what the BLM IS! Honestly, the Feds should have handled this 20 years ago if you ask me. Been mooching off the land for all these years…

      • April 12, 2014 at 2:00 pm

Oh, the photo of the kid, there is no depth these people won’t sink to. Exactly right DF, why the friggin’ hell was this guy allowed get away with this for 20 years?!

      • April 12, 2014 at 3:43 pm

Twenty years ago would have been 1 year to the week of Waco, so probably not a good idea for feds to move in then.

I have no idea what happened at Waco, but speaking as a person, I was appalled to see what happened to the people inside the compound in 1993.

IMO, where lives and livelihoods are involved, it’s best to tone down the “all or nothing” rhetoric.

However, this incident looks like a calling card for every tom-dick-and-harry with a gun to decide to take a trip to NV.

They’ve gotten nowhere with #Benghazi, looks like we’ll be hearing a lot from MSM/Kochs on #BundyRanch for awhile now.

Sent this reply to you yesterday about @Lawrence’s graphic that ACA arrived “stillborn.”

I’ve given up on cable TV, so have seen no MSNBC talking heads this week.

What bothers me the most is that these media types live in sterile world, unpopulated by anyone unlike themselves (mostly young white males).

Many years ago, a woman told me that her baby was declared dead while still in utero. She had to carry the baby to term and deliver the dead baby, a truly horrifying experience for her and her family. My guess is that having to wait to deliver a stillborn child no longer happens but its clear that these dudebros have no idea what pain they are referring to.

Thanks arapaho415- that’s what bothered me most about this MSNBC tweet. Apart from the fact that the analogy was not even correct because neither the website nor the law are “dead” as the term “stillbirth” denotes, but using this psychologically painful and tragic end to a pregnancy just to maximize their sensationalist media appeal is utterly depraved in my opinion.

      • 57 Lynn
        April 12, 2014 at 2:31 pm

That also happened to Barbara Eden, Arapahoe.

        • April 12, 2014 at 2:41 pm

          Oh, really?

Such an awful experience. Sorry to hear that.

I’m glad HF2 tweeted this, because otherwise I would never have known the careless crassness of @msnbc.

These people in media need to have someone unlike themselves take a look at their work before airing it. Is it a subject that women or a person of color might have more insight on? Then frigging ask someone whose not a white male what they think before airing it.

Not difficult to do, but apparently too much effort for these so-called journalists.

I saw an interview she did, Arapaho. It was heart rending!

          • April 12, 2014 at 5:01 pm

Over twenty-five years ago my close friend realized her baby was no longer moving at eight months. Fortunately her doctor and mine realized the fetus had died. I think it was before ultrasound. The doctor induced labor after he was certain of it. He might have put her under a strong dose of medicine so she wasn’t aware of what happened or any pain. It was her first pregnancy and a little girl. Soon after she had two boys. I’m sure the psychological pain never goes away for a mother or father.

          • April 12, 2014 at 5:03 pm

I agree with you about msnbc and other stations. Lawrence doesn’t usually make those mistakes. They must be on a tight leash with Phil whn. 😦

This happened to my mother after she contacted German Measels when I was about 5. It was a nightmare for her. She was seeing a psychiatrist due to depression after she had to deliver the baby, and he treated her with shock treatment. He didn’t tell her that the side effects would be loss of memory, and she thought she was going crazy. Once they stopped the shock treatment she was okay.

Happy Spring morning / afternoon to all in TODville US.

Glad to see our President visiting the Pittsburgh area this week. Always look forward to his trips to that state (heck, all states).

Did you all see that those traitors Greenwald and Poitras have the nerve to step foot in the US? To pick up an award, apparently, and they are waiting with bated breath for the Pulitzer awards on Monday. Their smirking anti-American hubris just makes me ill.

This was published just after the #Snowdenwald story broke last year:
“Contary to Greenwald’s claim that Poitras has never been accused of any wrongdoing, Devil’s Sandbox details the explosive allegation that Poitras had foreknowledge of a November 20, 2004 ambush of U.S. troops but did nothing to warn them.”

Greenwald has to be educated enough to know the history of Western journalists and Russian Intelligence:

Want to share my experience from couple hours ago: Doorbell rang. Went to the door and saw that a young woman had campaign flyers in her hands. She commented on the yard……you know, “icebreaker”. Then handed me the flyer and said she’s out walking and giving these out for Mike Hammond. He is running for Criminal Court Clerk. She said, “This is the office that has had all the problems.” I didn’t respond to that. (She is correct–has had lots of problems!!!!!) I took the flyer, looked at it briefly and as she started to walk away, I said, “I am going to be honest with you. I will not vote for a Republican, any Republican.” She said she understood and thanked me. Gosh, I LOVED saying that to her!!!!! 🙂 🙂

Great article, hf. thanks for posting it. “View from nowhere” indeed.
More like view from bank where I’m cashing my check. Too harsh?

And sorry for Streisand comment. Did not mean to rain on parade. My view is decidedly quirky on this one.

I enjoyed your Streisand comment Vicki!! I know quite a few folks (family & friends) who could care less about Streisand…I just happen to like some of her songs. I love Barry Manilow too…Methinks I’m the quirky one here. 🙂

    • April 12, 2014 at 2:36 pm

      Nailed it.

“the view from nowhere is more often a self-flattering and ass-covering gimmick, one that is intended to protect the journalist from receiving criticism for partiality but often leaves the reader less informed as a result…”

One of my pet peeves is clicking on an article and feeling stupider after I’ve read it.

Ezra and Nate haven’t put in the “sweat equity” to be accomplished journalists. Heck, they’re not really journalists. They don’t know what it’s like to doggedly pursue a story, don’t know what it’s like to conduct interviews. They haven’t spent time in a foreign bureau, they’ve just sat back and had accolades heaped upon from nothing more than good timing. Nate has employable modeling/analytic skills, Ezra, not so much (a deadly combination with a status-conscious snob wife).

Ezra and Nate are still in the stage of their careers where mentors who have had to juggle news stories and have the judgment to decide “which hill to climb” would be immensely helpful to them and their readers. Instead, readers are expected to read these neophytes as if they have something informative to say. Nate will have plenty to say in 2016 — I doubt he’ll shed much light on 2014 since he’s part of the DC echo-chamber (which is batting about .000 these days). Ezra is so colorless and bland with only a stray creative thought bouncing around in that inflated head of his.

      • April 12, 2014 at 5:45 pm

“Suddenly Klein, the guy who cut his teeth at the American Prospect, was telling readers he could make them “understand what just happened” without “telling you … how we feel about what just happened.” (I should note that Klein has previously disavowed liberalism, telling the New Republic’s Alec MacGillis, “I don’t really think of myself as a liberal. That’s not the project I’m part of, which is to let the facts take me where they do.” Liberals, you see, don’t care for facts.)”

        From the article..

Haven’t been able to read much here or anywhere. I knew better than to peek because I don’t have the willpower needed to ignore a post or two. 😉 I can’t resist commenting on the bunny ranch (they are too small to deserve capital letters) or the UK. Bob, if it gets really bad will you DM me please? I will at least get a chime before the bomb drops. Now that Hubby’s retired to be my full time Doc, he could care less about the news. He’s tired of me too and left sometime about 6:30am this morning. Don’t know when I’ll see him again. 😉 He’s really just detoxing from the BS he had to listen to at work and the bus rides? I have been following a little of the tax evaders because WY is my last name. :/ I was glad to notice twitter took them on last night or before. I’m trying to remember what I thought when I heard bundyranch. I had read one of the first articles about them and they didn’t have a handle yet on twitter. I thought of them as ruining our protected wildlife and Public Lands and lawless squatters. Then I think I saw them as bs bunch and/or rwnjs. In fact it was two or three days before Twitter picked up the story and I was worried it might go unnoticed until too late. Have no idea of the details you’re discussing other than those two things and of course POTUS. Didn’t even know he was speaking yesterday until he was done. :/ Haven’t even listened to the video yet because I don’t have the willpower to not watch him and every gesture. Thanks for all the photos yesterday Chips. They (POTUS & FLOTUS) just get better and better and so does TOD. Oh how I wished I’d been here from the start. 😉 I’ll just close my eyes and think of that possibility for now. . .
Just so you know, I don’t know what’s been said here about bundyranch other than GGails post and Chips response. 😉

Okay, enough about the state of the world. How are YOU doing?

      • April 12, 2014 at 4:02 pm

😎 Hi, I’m ok. I’m not sure how to respond. I hate to complain, but I’m miserable right now. My right eye hurts right now but not very much of the time. Turns out I was allergic to a new drug my regular doc switched me to just before surgery. It didn’t show until a few days later, then again about a week ago. I look awful, I’m bored with my own thoughts, miss TOD, etc. I could go on about the process, but it’s taken awhile to not be even worse than I am. Thanks for asking though Flower. 💐 That’s how I think of you. 😉
