“Miracle” Achieved: 7.1 Million And Counting

Joanne Kenen and Kyle Cheney: White House: 7 Million Signed Up For Obamacare

More than 7 million people signed up for health insurance through Affordable Care Act exchanges through Monday night’s deadline, White House press secretary Jay Carney announced. A total of 7,041,000 people signed up, Carney said, and that number doesn’t include enrollment surges that took place in the 14 states running their own insurance marketplaces. Carney said the administration expects that the final numbers will also show sharply higher enrollment by young adults, but he said no demographic breakdowns are available yet and was unable to say how many of the enrollees were previously uninsured. The law’s impact on the uninsured, he said, was intended to be measured over three years.

He called estimates that 40 percent of all enrollees must be young and healthy a “red herring” and that enough young people had already enrolled to keep Obamacare exchanges stable. Carney also ripped Republicans for what he said was a laser-focus on undermining the law — an effort he said “has come to naught and it will come to naught.” “Folks out there who want to take those benefits away from the American people … have spent and will spend millions of dollars making their argument, often using false examples and false facts,” he said. “We are feeling good. It’s been amazing to see the consumer interest and the work that’s been done on the ground. … Yes, I am smiling!” said Anne Filipic, president of Enroll America.

Dylan Scott: Obamacare Sign-Ups: 7,041,000

How many people have signed up for private coverage under Obamacare? 7,041,000, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced Tuesday afternoon. That number is likely to rise: It does not include the Monday sign-ups in the 14 states operating their own marketplaces. In addition, the enrollment deadline was relaxed for people having trouble completing the process, so some people could still sign up in the next two weeks.

Tara Culp-Ressler: BREAKING: More Than 7 Million People Have Now Enrolled In Obamacare

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced that Obamacare enrollment has officially topped seven million — exceeding the expectations for the health law after persistent website glitches made the enrollment process more difficult for some Americans. The 7,041,000 figure reported by the administration does not include the people who enrolled in state-based exchanges on Monday, and also doesn’t include anyone who’s still waiting in the queue for their application to be processed.

There was widespread recent speculation that Obamacare enrollment would successfully hit the seven million mark. On Monday night, administration officials told the Associated Press that Obamacare was “on track” to sign up seven million people. During his daily briefing on Tuesday afternoon, Carney confirmed that health law sign-ups have now surpassed that threshold, as Americans rushed to get their applications in before the end of the first open enrollment period.

TPM: Obama Tells GOP: Time To Get Over Obamacare

Touting the news that Obamacare had reached 7 million sign-ups, an almost unthinkable achievement so soon after the law’s disastrous October launch, President Barack Obama sent a direct message Tuesday to Republicans and their efforts to stymie the law: Get over it. “The debate over repealing this law is over. The Affordable Care Act is here to stay,” Obama said Tuesday in the White House Rose Garden. “In the end, history is not kind to those who deny Americans basic economic security. Nobody remembers well those who stand in the way of America’s progress or our people. That’s what the Affordable Care Act represents.”

The president’s remarks followed an unprecedented flurry of good news this week for the law and its supporters. Enrollment beat the Congressional Budget Office’s original projection, which had been revised down after HealthCare.gov website flopped in the fall. The Los Angeles Times estimated that 9.5 million previously uninsured people had been covered. A Washington Post-ABC News poll found that support for Obamacare broke even for the first time.” This law is doing what it’s supposed to do. It’s working. It’s helping people from coast to coast. All of which makes the lengths to which critics have gone to scare people, or undermine the law, or repeal the law… so hard to understand,” Obama said. “I don’t get it. Why are folks working so hard for people not to have health insurance? Why are they so mad about the idea of folks having health insurance?”

President Obama just keeps on being awesome!

The media can try their BS to try to deny him credit for wonderful things he has done for Americans, but his work just keeps on shining through and that’s why he won a second term.

I feel no sympathy for their whining when he dismisses them in favor of town halls, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, local news, visiting colleges, etc. History will remember him as a GREAT President and they can’t do anything to stop it. It must burn them something awful and that puts a smile on my face.

That AP blurb about “miracle” was the MSM’s wishful thinking that the ACA would fail, because miracles don’t happen in real life. So of course, when the “miracle” happened, they were dumbfounded, angry, shellshocked, traumatized, and like their GOP friends in congress, they reflexively said “no” to PBO when he requested prime time coverage to announce that 7M enrollment figure.

I don’t tweet, but I emailed the evening news anchors at all three networks. Told them I was disgusted, and that this showed they had become shills for the Republican party and tools of the Kochs. Reminded them that he is PRESIDENT of ALL Americans, and that this health care program is important to the entire country. My husband simply said when I told him, well, I’m not watching them any more. We haven’t for weeks and it is a relief.
I think they will feel the backlash on this one.

When the Network refuse a POTUS to address the Nation on Health Care Enrollment numbers having reached a Milestone, why then did the 3 Networks willfully collaborated and not Only denied pres Obama a tad of air time, but Refused to let the Viewers know what they did for….say… full disclosure?

The Media is eager to report that they are Not getting access. This president as of 10-15 days ago has done 744 sit-down interviews with the Media.

In US the President doesn’t have a State TV, Cable or Radio. The 4th Estate is to inform the public. By snubbing the president of having the ability to inform the Citizens……the media is basically siding with a political party, the GOP. That is wrong and that is unfair to the 317M.

This is the same News Media that has systematically and endlessly reported ONLY the Negative stories on ACA. Shame on the National News Media.

    Hypocrisy of House GOP

Posted on April 3, 2014 by Leader’s Press Shop

Right now, House Republicans are on the floor debating their 52nd attempt to destroy the Affordable Care Act and the health security it is providing so many families across the country.

In a circus mirror-like twist, the GOP is currently lecturing the American people on the importance of working a full-time, 40-hour work week.

This Republican Congress doesn’t have a single five day work week scheduled for the entire 2014 year. Not one.

In October when the networks were running around forecasting gloom and doom for Obamacare, it’s clear they thought it was worthy of giving alot of attention to it. When the nightly news came on it open with the failure of the website. Morning news shows did the same. Now that Obamacare is succeeding they don’t have the time to give it any attention.

Just heard Sen. Schumer (on Tweety) state a likely consequence of the Sup. Ct.’s horrific democracy-ending McCutcheon decision (imho)—–something I thought of when I heard it. A consequence, most likely intended, is that it will suppress the vote. Once average citizens get wind of this decision, which effectively transfers power from “the people” to a tiny minority of uber wealthy billionaires, many voters will just throw up their hands and throw in the towel, saying “It’s all rigged any way, what’s the point?” (I heard that plenty even before this decision in my gotv calls) And small donors will feel ineffective—–will feel what good is their $50 when someone else is writing checks for $10, 20 million or more to finance and influence a campaign.
That decision is a disaster for this country. Congress needs a constitutional amendment to remedy. Which will never happen with the current make up of this Congress. It’s sad.

Aloha, Susanne and all others in TODville interest in the so-called “Ryan budget.”

Ryan has proved himself unserious by hinging his “plan” on the repeal of ACA.

Also, caught Bobby Jindal on upChuck Todd’s show this morning — the tease was that Jindal has an alternative plan to ACA.

And what a plan it is. His plan would shift medical insurance tax deductions from employers to employees, thus dis-incentivizing employers from offering medical insurance as an employment perk in one fell swoop. His plan also gets rid of Medicare (more tomorrow, I think) and provides Medicare funding to the states so that local officials can skim off the top before tending to (literally) dying citizens.

GOP is getting more heartless and greedy by the day, empowered by SCOTUS “corporations are people too” and their belief that “money equals speech.”

What a vile, vile thing our SCOTUS is.

Fact is – the President of the United States can declassify any document. So, while the CIA will be involved, along with other agencies, in the review of what’s going to be declassified, I have zero doubt that President Obama is going to ensure maximum exposure to the reality that torture is criminal and highly ineffective (something any person with even the slightest knowledge of ‘human intelligence (HUMINT)’ knows.

By the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, in order to improve the effectiveness of human intelligence gathering, to promote the safe, lawful, and humane treatment of individuals in United States custody and of United States personnel who are detained in armed conflicts, to ensure compliance with the treaty obligations of the United States, including the Geneva Conventions, and to take care that the laws of the United States are faithfully executed, I hereby order as follows:

Section 1. Revocation. Executive Order 13440 of July 20, 2007, is revoked. All executive directives, orders, and regulations inconsistent with this order, including but not limited to those issued to or by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from September 11, 2001, to January 20, 2009, concerning detention or the interrogation of detained individuals, are revoked to the extent of their inconsistency with this order. Heads of departments and agencies shall take all necessary steps to ensure that all directives, orders, and regulations of their respective departments or agencies are consistent with this order. Upon request, the Attorney General shall provide guidance about which directives, orders, and regulations are inconsistent with this order.”

I think President Obama has been more eager to declassify the report than the CIA has ever been. Sadly. They completely went overboard during the Bush administration and they must be pretty ashamed of it. Apparently the CIA can redact parts of the report so how much will become public ? We’ll see.

wasn’t out-lawing torture one of the very first executive orders he signed?

Yellowstone is the seat of one of the worlds’ largest mega-volcanoes. And despite dynamic tectonic plate theory, I feel it is important to remember the Earth is a fully connected sphere, so what may slip in one area, must surely affect all areas, given they all share the same molten liquid core.
