I watched the speech: PBO said (I think) that this number included the federal and state exchanges.

    1. Did I hear that right?

2, Is there confusion as to whether this number includes the separate state exchanges or if this number is just healthcare.gov.

Just want to have my facts straight.

    • April 1, 2014 at 6:15 pm

57 I’m not sure but I don’t think it includes everything. Can’t remember where I saw it. And per instructions I can’t look. 😉

    • 27 Nerdy Wonka
      April 1, 2014 at 6:16 pm

The 7.1M number is just for healthcare.gov. State exchanges are still counting. Expect more from both due to the extension.

    • April 1, 2014 at 7:52 pm

I don’t know if you already received the answer, but the 7.1 MM doesn’t include State exchange numbers. Additionally, it doesn’t include direct purchases from the insurance companies.

Dean Chambers, notorious unskewer of 2012 presidential election polls, has his critical eye on a new metric: Obamacare enrollment.

“The Obamacare enrollments numbers are bogus. They don’t even know how many have really paid for what they supposedly signed up for, and the ‘back end’ for the billing process of the Obamacare web site is not even functioning yet,” he wrote in a Tuesday post on the law’s 7 million announced sign-ups.

The MSM and GOPTPers are in a real funk today. They rooted for failure, and things didn’t turn out the way they predicted they would for Obamacare. I’ll always believe that the MSM colluded with the GOPTPers to distort information about Obamacare. I’m not listening to any of them whine or any of their attempts to question the enrollment numbers. They’ve been trying to deny PBO any credit for anything for five years, but they can’t deny him credit for the success of Obamacare because there are real people, including many republicans, who now either have health insurance for the first time or have better coverage. Suck it, GOPTPers!

    • 46 jackiegrumbacher
      April 1, 2014 at 9:58 pm

Majiir, I think you can take it to the bank that the media colluded with the GOP to distort ObamaCare information. The similarity of talking points across many media outlets, the persistent unwillingness to ‘believe’ the president, the rude treatment of Sec. Sibelius, the loud droning of Republican voices and unwillingness to give equal time to Democrats—all of it is evidence of GOP control of media.

    • 47 theo67
      April 2, 2014 at 12:06 am

This really isn’t even about the President, although that’s their motivation. They hate Americans. This business of rooting for failure doesn’t mean anything to President Obama. What it does mean is that the GOP and their puppets in the media wanted millions of people to be denied affordable healthcare, and for every single American to continue to be at the mercy of the insurance industry – potentially losing everything, including their lives, if they ever got sick. That’s what rooting for failure really means.

Despite Chips and NerdyW’s best efforts, I think some people who are not residents of TODville helped make this happen: 😉

The MSM believe that they comply with the “Fairness Doctrine” by giving “equal time to both parties.” So they feel they’ve done their job by attacking whatever the Administration says and letting people who attack the President go unchallenged. Case in point: Boehner yesterday slamming the Administration for allowing a “grace period” — and further said the Administration chose not to follow the law. No push back whatsoever.

MSM/GOP/Koch would have had a field day with horror stories of why an ACA application could not be completed. Every one who is not a techie understands the frustration of getting an error message after clicking on the “submit” button.

So the MSM ignore the fact that if ACA were repealed, what would happen to those who have coverage now? They ignore the fact that having medical insurance is a good thing, not a fate worse than death.

Congrats to everyone who worked so hard the past 6 months or more. So good to have this part of the Obama Administration done and over with.

chait has an interesting take on the obamacare victory– the practical beating the ideological.

‘ Republicans express their beliefs about government as abstract ideology (big government is bad) while Democrats express their beliefs in the form of benefits for groups. The differences are enormous…’

  33. April 1, 2014 at 8:20 pm

    Friends, savor this victory.,

Now we have to continue cornering the GOP into running against Obamacare. With Paul Ryan calling the 7.1m enrollments a “Pyrrhic victory”, and Speaker In Name Boehner vowing to repeal yet again, that won’t be hard. And then Dem candidates have to HIT THEM IN THE BALLSACK. PBO set the tone; Dems had better start singing the tune.

Okay now I understand why PBO mocked the media about their negative headlines regarding the website. I’m sure he saw the front page of this mornings Washington Post:

“Healthcare.gov hiccups amid deadline day frenzy” “Americans racing to sign up before midnight encounter glitches”

Of all the things that they could have highlighted in that headline this is what they chose to focus their readers attention on and pundits question why the public tends to have a negative impression of this law. smh!!!!

    • April 1, 2014 at 8:51 pm

Honestly, the web site was down for maybe a half hour or so. Ridiculous.

I watched the news in San Francisco last night on ABC, (which I now realize seems to be very right wing), and last night their only point about ACA was to point out the issues – not the 7+ million who were granted peace of mind. They talked to people who were still standing in lines at 11:50pm last night, and they focused on the ones who were willing to complain on camera. Really disappointing on such a momentous evening. The only good story they had last night was the picture of the baby pinching President Obama’s nose.

The ACA success is making headlines all over the world! Here is just one of the many Italian newspaper headlines I just read:

“Obama vince la scommessa, Obamacare supera i 7 milioni di iscritti” 🙂
“Obama wins his bet, Obamacare exceeds 7 million enrolled”

And that was from one of the more conservative newspapers!

After today’s numbers came out, I decided I have a new inner slogan: “Haters gonna hate… but trust PBO, he always proves them wrong”

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has opened up a probe into whether high-speed trading firms are engaged in insider trading.

High-speed trading is where traders create complicated algorithms to buy and sell stocks in milliseconds.

Some investors and regulators have argued this gives them an unfair advantage.

Last month, New York’s attorney general Eric Schneiderman said he was investigating the firms.

The FBI is looking into several practices at high-speed trading firms, including a method of trading where a firm places a large order for trades in a company’s stock but then cancels them – giving the illusion of big activity in a stock.

The agency is also looking into whether trading firms were granted early information, ahead of institutional investors.

‘ Based on all available data a major tsunami is not expected to strike the State of Hawaii. however…sea level changes and strong currents may occur along all coasts that could be a hazard to swimmers and boaters as well as to persons near the shore at beaches and in harbors and marinas. The threat may continue for several hours after the initial wave arrival. The estimated time of arrival of the initial wave is 3:24 a.m.

Chip McCreery of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says a tsunami advisory is a “low level warning.” ‘
