You have to be desperate to want another Bush, G.W. Bush’s brother. The man who sign Stand your Ground into law in Florida. Listen to Mom, Mom is right, we don’t need or want another Bush, so it will be just a waste of time for who ever is trying to draft G.W. baby big head brother..
Wow, I haven’t posted in a while. Here’s a gem that I uncovered… NerdyWonka, will you please magically make the picture appear?
Even as Albert Einstein considered honorary degrees “ostentatious,” he accepted an invitation from Horace Mann Bond, president of Lincoln University.
~~~
Albert Einstein teaching a physics class at Lincoln University (HBCU in Pennsylvania) in 1946. The Nobel prize winning scientist said: “The separation of the races is not a disease of colored people. It is a disease of white people. I do not intend to be quiet about it.”
By the way, Horace Mann Bond was the father of Julian Bond. Also, I find the comment at the end of the source article very telling… Sound familar?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In accepting the invitation, Einstein clearly intended to send a message to a wider audience. But the media then — like the media since then — had different news priorities. While almost all of Einstein’s public speeches and interviews were widely covered by the major media, in this case, most of the press treated the address by the world’s most famous scientist at the world’s oldest black university as a non-event.
What a great find Isonprize! Thank you so much for sharing it. Dr. Horace Mann Bond, is one of forgotten major African American scholars. He was also active in the struggle for Black freedom in America and for African independence from colonial rule.
and just to be clear, what i mean by ‘amazing’ is not the event itself, but that the msm of the day was exactly like it is today–shaping our point of view through omission.
susanne, I know exactly what you mean. It’s HORRIBLE that folks are so scared of the truth. People of all colors, all backgrounds have briliance, and meaning and humanity. The sooner folks realize that, the better off we will all be.
The ad is freaking awesome. It’s as though they scrolled through the comments section of every extreme rightwing website and blog, and held up a mirror to their paranoid rantings.
“He was tense, and rightly so. A few days ago Lev Shlozberg, member of the council of the Pskov region, stood up and addressed a silent audience. They all listened in awe. He attacked the prevailing mood in Russia, comparing the attacks on “people’s traitors” and the mass patriotic hysteria with the atmosphere in the 1930s under Stalin. And if that was not enough, he continued to expose the corruption in the governor’s office, the deal and tricks that allowed the ruling class to enrich itself and keep the rest of the population in poverty. “These are the real people’s traitors,” he said, “these are the people that ruin our country.”
This amazing clip found its way on Internet and was disseminated like wildfire, people flabbergasted by the man’s courage. Yet only few Western media outlets covered the event, just like hardly any of them covered the flash-mob by the Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra a week ago, on Saturday March 22, when at the well-known Odesa “Privoz” fish market the musicians played the “Ode of Joy” of Beethoven as a show of pro-Europeanism, the hymn generally regarded as the anthem of the European Union. And again, today there are hardly any reports on the big demonstrations in Odesa and Zaporizhzhya, all in favor of a unified Ukraine and supporting linking up with Europe rather than with Putin’s Customs Union. And no news-outlet reported on the courageous demonstration in favor of Ukraine at the University of Simferopol, also this week. All very important events, but already considered “no news” for the Western media outlets.
clip
And come to think of it, Putin did not only mess up his countries economics, with an enormous capital loss due to inflation and funds being siphoned out of the country as soon as possible. He really did the worst service to his country already earlier, when started blending Sovietism with Russian Tsarist imperialism, and when he re-introduced the Soviet hymn as the national hymn. This is a hymn that among his neighbors evokes so much anger, so much hate and so much fear, that by doing this he disadvantaged his country enormously. Maybe many Russians do not understand this now, but there will be a day that they will come to realize that the sounds of this song have the same emotion as “Deutschland über Alles” after the Second World War. And actually, if anybody is an enemy of the Russian people, it is Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin himself.”
I can understand why the US media will not report these things–it would upset their right wing narrative that the president must be wrong (naive, weak) in siding with those who seek self-determination and democracy. But what’s the story with the European media? It would seem that pro-western sentiments in Russia are exactly what they want to showcase.
Thank you Nerdy Wonka for staying on the healthcare law like, as they say…’White on rice’. Your persistence and fantastic reporting
are beyond admirable. The MSM has dropped the ball but you have picked it up and run with it and for that we are grateful.
Just dropping by and leaving soon, but have a PSA. If you get sick or can’t check your email you might want someone close to you to do it for you. I got hacked on Twitter and someone tried to use my PayPal account in South Africa. Thank goodness I didn’t have to give it up completely. I look like a freak. My right eye and surrounding area are VERY puffy and red. On call Doc said not to worry until it starts itching and gets really painful. Calling my Doc tomorrow. Sounds like I need to read Rise and Shine later or tomorrow. Bye guys and gals.
This is going to be a big week! ACA enrollment will continue to climb as states finally report in. The last time I counted more than 20 states hadn’t reported in since March 11.
Forecasts are high for new jobs numbers and a lowering of unemployment to 6.6.
Now if the Repub Congress will cooperate and pass UI extension it would be a really really big week. I know, dream on.
Great clip. One of my headaches (among many) last year was trying to explain to a young seasonal employee why it was important to get health insurance. At times I felt like I was talking to a wall, and the kicker came when he got a really bad rash. He apparently got into some poison ivy or giant hogweed. 🙄 I was fairly certain he’d gotten it at home, but he needed to see a doctor, but he couldn’t get the point of “this is why you need insurance” and also why I was trying to get him to admit that it might have happened on the job. Mainly because if it was “work-related,” we would have picked up the doctor’s bill. Still didn’t work, some just think they’re … invincible. (sigh)
desertflower,
I agree – it was great advertising!! I saw the video this morning and I usually hate, hate the SNL Obama skits as they are not clever at all. This one was actually funny and the actor did a decent job with picking up the mannerisms of POTUS. Here’s the video of the skit posted by TPM. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/obama-health-care-snl-bieber-video
Thanks. forus50…I didn’t watch SNL last night, but I totally agree with your critique of their Obama skits. They usually stink. I never find them the slightest bit funny. Glad to see that got this one right:)
Yes, when I see that info of over 2M visits and over 380k calls to the ACA website I can help attest to that.
On Friday while helping to enroll people I was unable to complete a lot of the applications because the website was so
overwhelmed. We have some of those people coming back tomorrow to see if we can complete what we started.
On one occasion, I had gotten into the system for this gentleman and his family of five, putting in all their info(and that is a lot of work
for so many people) only to get a “sorry, please check back at a less busy time”…At that point the guy was so disappointed and so was I,
after all the time we had spent entering his family’s info. So I picked up my cell and called..got blocked there too, but decided to wait
and wait…After 1 &1/2 hrs someone finally came on the line,apologized profusely and explained that they were inundated with calls.
Well the happy ending for this gentleman and his family was that she patiently stayed on the phone with us (another 45mins) until his
application went through. Yippeee… what a feeling of accomplishment. I don’t know who was happier me or the gentleman or the
helper on the phone. We were all laughing and thanking each other for being so ‘patient’ thru the whole sign up process.
And that dear TOD is just one of the many stories that happened to me on Friday. Sooooo, yes people are signing up like crazy.
Republicans be damned. The law is here to stay so deal with it!!!!
Wow, what a great story Hope!! Thank you for all your work. I’m curious if you had to have prior experience in healthcare or you just went through training for ACA? I would be so intimidated to not know all the answers – I hardly can figure it all out for myself.
Forus50…just got back on-line and saw yr question. No I did not have prior experience in healthcare as a professional.
I did the courses required and then the exam to be certified. Everybody’s story and needs are so different that no one
ever has all the answers. We just work with one client at a time and try to resolve their particular issues and get them enrolled.
{{{{{HOPE44}}}}}} Thank you for all your help. Your selfless act of helping others have the joy of protecting their health and that of their family…is truly priceless. If you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything. You. Are. Awesome.
It’s people like YOU, HOPE44, who not only have helped make ACA a reality for so many, but have restored faith in humanity for some of us!!! Well, people like you and PRESIDENT OBAMA, of course!
You are making a difference in the quality of life of people. If every politician in America were as dedicated as you, HOPE, we’d have an exceptional civilization. Thank you!
Do you mean the poll comparing Bush to Obama on CIC? If it’s that I don’t find it surprising because a) most of them went to war FOR George Bush and b) most are probably white men from the South.
“This week, the Supreme Court decided a case that will save women’s lives.
Back in 1996, Congress made it a crime for anyone convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to possess a gun. As Vice President Biden has often noted, there is a direct connection between gun violence and domestic violence: when a domestic abuser has a gun, a victim is 12 times more likely to die than when he doesn’t.
Some courts, however, have set a high bar for what counts as a “misdemeanor crime of domestic violence” – which has meant that many domestic abusers have been allowed to keep their guns.
But in United States v. Castleman (written by Justice Sotomayor), the Court changed all that. It recognized that domestic violence is a unique kind of crime that doesn’t always fit everyone’s idea of what’s “violent”: often, it can involve pushing, grabbing, shoving, scratching, or hair pulling – and which, over time, can “subject one intimate partner to the other’s control.” The Court also recognized that, in a number of states, these acts are prosecuted as crimes of “offensive touching” – which, before this week, meant some courts didn’t consider them to be domestic violence. But now, according to the Court, that’s enough to subject a convicted domestic abuser to the federal gun ban.
This is a landmark opinion. As so many abused women know, what happens to them is a far cry from “offensive touching.” It is terrifying and debilitating, and can rob her of all manner of trust, security, and hope. It can make her – as the Vice President has also said – a prisoner in her own home. But at least now, the law recognizes that those who are convicted of these crimes have no business having a gun.”
FINALLY ~ my middle son called this evening to tell me he got COVERED !! I have been leaving him messages and harping on it for weeks/ months to remind him of the deadline. I’m so relieved.
yes, something I can never get enough of.. and he will sleep peacefully too.. I think what finally got him is my call this afternoon reminding him that it would be an entire year before he could do this again.. even he realizes that could be a major mistake.
I felt the same way back in Dec when my son signed up. He turned 26 in Sept, so he’d been without insurance for 3+ months. I was super anxious during that time. I was so relieved when he told me he had signed up to get covered Jan 1st, has made his first 2 payments of $50/month, so he’s all good.
had to take a moment and thank SoS John Kerry and his staff at the State Department – they must be exhausted with this trying to manage all these crises and at the same time implement a diplomacy-centered vision for the future;
.@JohnKerry & @StateDept staff: hope u know that your tenacity & hard work in search for global peace is very much appreciated #Ukraine etc.
Passing on the back story, & don’t have an Apple. (Rats!) Call me again when you find a smilie angel that I can use here, &/ when twitter accepts the dancing smilies (like the ones Amk taunted me with recently).
Thanks in advance,

Hel-lo there, MP!
Not sure the assistance will work, but thought it worth a shot. That min, single-handedly thwarted my charm offensive before it had a chance to stand on both legs! Makes me wonder anew about resolutions, I tell you. /sms/
“DANIEL NEGREANU IS one of the most successful poker players in the world, the winner of six World Series of Poker championships who has racked up more than $19 million from live tournament pots. So sharp is his bluffing that he once went on a TV science show to try to fool a lie detector—and, ultimately, he succeeded.
But until recently, the 39-year-old star put some serious resources into a strategy that most fans know little about. He hedged his bets, by investing in other poker players. Two years ago, he says, he invested about $2 million in 10 players at the World Series of Poker, and at times he has played against some of those he has backed in tournaments. “I play against them as hard as I play against someone I don’t even know,” he says.
To most observers, professional poker is a straightforward game of winners and losers, with almost $200 million in prize money dished out at more than 60 World Series of Poker events last year alone. With cameras that reveal each player’s cards, devoted fans can see how every hand is played and the strategy behind each bet. But there’s one thing they can’t see: the financial dealing among the players…….”
This is the little tweet Connecticut tweeted to POTUS after they defeated Michigan St., who was POTUS pick to win it all : Sorry for busting your bracket @Barack Obama, we have room on our bandwagon if you’re interested.
GCL, funny enough, I wasn’t angry. In a way I felt sorry for her; she hates someone she doesn’t know and can’t even explain it to her own child. Although, I actually would be surprised if he doesn’t know why and is simply too embarrassed to admit it.
O, I am not embarrassed to input a reason his mother is filled with hate, and I really don’t care if she comes to love PBO, or not. I don’t believe PBO cares or not either. One way I look at it is that people like her hate themselves more than they hate the O’s because many are choosing not to look out for their own physical well-being .
missed a word in my earlier sentence and it changed the meaning of what I was trying to say – he is the one who is embarrassed to explain his mum (see my comment above – was typing my correction even as you were probably responding to me)
reading his timeline, I also notice that he is a PBO supporter, a promoter of Obamacare and has other Dems – so his mother at least has a son with a good heart
Looking through the most recent batch of photos from Mr. Pete Souza, you can see PBO getting an update about Obamacare enrollment from Ms Tara McGuinness (photo # 49);
;
I thought to myself, that in the middle of all the global challenges PBO was dealing with at the time, he has time to focus on the progress of enrollment!
;
Then I remembered the words in this video from PBO’s own mouth about passing Obamacare:
“it is one of those moments that reminds you why you got into public service in the first place ……. the healthcare vote was probably the most gratifying day of my public life, more then even my election ….. you run and hopefully win elected office not just for the sake of being something, but for the sake of doing something …… “
;
As we come to the end of the initial Obamacare enrollment period,
…..;
we celebrate the fact that millions of our fellow human beings have a chance at a better life because of the dedication and determination of PBO,
…..;
many on Team Obama who work behind the scenes ;
and
…..;
many Democrats in elected office (living and departed),
and
…..;
many aides whose names we will never know but play vital supporting roles to make the ship of state run ;
…….;
all ensured by the votes in two elections and moral support of many ordinary people domestic around the world;
;
I hope that we get a chance to share and promote this clip that Ms. Chips saved (entitled History Captured) to show the road Obamacare has travelled and WHY it is so important for PBO and those of us who love, respect and greatly appreciate him;
;
There are so many creative people who participate in TOD who can make a better outreach than my lousy one below
glad to see that the young people still remember the role that he played in destroying so many lives and so much of the nation’s soul, credibility and financial health;
to think that this evil-to-the-core greedy man is regularly given a platform to criticize anyone , especially PBO, boggles my mind
My sentiments as well.
After watching the movie “Nixon”this weekend while in bed with the flu, I actually felt like dying.
My God, what a deep dark soul! The fact they had a funeral for him is remarkable. It took me this long to watch it. I knew about it, but so much pain from relative, friends and good people who were sent to Viet Nam. I still cry. And this bastard just wanted to drop bombs all the time. Every time the movie went off, it was on another channel. It was if I was drawn to watch this until it sunk in. That evil Edgar Hoover and his sick mind is there any wonder we have not been wiped off this earth.
I will be a another flu episode before I can watch “W”. It made me think every time Bush, Cheyney, Rumsfeld and others pop their ugly heads up, they should forever be reminded what they did. I loathe everyone of them because Nixon’s Evil Empire did not phase them at all. They lied and continue to lie. I may never live to see them go to trial but I pray history and the youth will ever let them forget.
Thank you students for calling his demon out. He’s made enough money to last seven lifetimes. Either he is so dillusional on power or trying to make a come back when they think no one is looking.
May history never forget so not to repeat itself.
hey
congrats to you, ison:) Numero Uno!

Hey guys, this is actually a pretty big deal that seems to gotten lost in the media shuffle (anyone surprised?)
“This week, the Supreme Court decided a case that will save women’s lives.

Hurray sherijr.
thank you, I am so glad he finally did it 🙂
Yay! You’re awesome. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were right. Moms can and do get it done.
lol.. ha! thanks Nerdy.. he made my day with this 🙂
You know Moms are always right. 🙂
yay! 😀
that’s what I said too 🙂 thanks alice.
Wooot! Way to go Mama Bear! 😀
grrrr 🙂 nothing like waiting til the last minute.
So, you can get a good nights rest tonight! Fantastic!
yes, something I can never get enough of.. and he will sleep peacefully too.. I think what finally got him is my call this afternoon reminding him that it would be an entire year before he could do this again.. even he realizes that could be a major mistake.
Amen, sherijr, our children do grow up, and the picture of life grows broader, and we rejoice!
I felt the same way back in Dec when my son signed up. He turned 26 in Sept, so he’d been without insurance for 3+ months. I was super anxious during that time. I was so relieved when he told me he had signed up to get covered Jan 1st, has made his first 2 payments of $50/month, so he’s all good.
had to take a moment and thank SoS John Kerry and his staff at the State Department – they must be exhausted with this trying to manage all these crises and at the same time implement a diplomacy-centered vision for the future;
thanks so much for sending that gratitude to our hard-working state department!
I love that Obamacare? Are you nuts ad ?
GE TOD! Just got home from the awesome UK/Michigan game……..what a weekend of basketball!
Here is some random stuff that peaked my interest….
Does this mean that I can use a smilie from this tableau on twitter? If not, I’ll pass, TYVM.
Well one of the articles is exclusively pertaining to Apple/Mac users…( I’m not one) the other is a backstory how the whole emoticon trend started……
Passing on the back story, & don’t have an Apple. (Rats!) Call me again when you find a smilie angel that I can use here, &/ when twitter accepts the dancing smilies (like the ones Amk taunted me with recently).
Thanks in advance,
Your friend,

VC, {{{{{VC}}}}}, I see amk has driven you to your knees, beseeching a Higher Power for assistance!
Hel-lo there, MP!
Not sure the assistance will work, but thought it worth a shot. That min, single-handedly thwarted my charm offensive before it had a chance to stand on both legs! Makes me wonder anew about resolutions, I tell you. /sms/
Oh, amk…
might as well prove wrong accusations right.

NCAA Final Four…..Kentucky, Florida, Wisconsin, Connecticut
This is the little tweet Connecticut tweeted to POTUS after they defeated Michigan St., who was POTUS pick to win it all : Sorry for busting your bracket @Barack Obama, we have room on our bandwagon if you’re interested.
Cute! I stil have 2 of the 4: Florida and Wisconsin. What a rough ride it’s been.

Can some wonderful BT please post it here? I think it’s perfect.
I to know the answer to your question to his Mum;
I wanted to say something critical but once I saw it was his mum, I decided to lay off and contain my anger
GCL, funny enough, I wasn’t angry. In a way I felt sorry for her; she hates someone she doesn’t know and can’t even explain it to her own child. Although, I actually would be surprised if he doesn’t know why and is simply too embarrassed to admit it.
I think he knows and like you he is embarrassed to say publicly;
I note that at least she will do much better, thanks to Obamacare and that her son can rest easier knowing she is benefiting;
hopefully, one day she can come around at least to the neutral state – hoping for her love of PBO would be pushing my luck too much!
oops, my typo changed the meaning of what I was trying to say;
top sentence should read :
I think he knows and like you suspect, he is embarrassed to say publicly
O, I am not embarrassed to input a reason his mother is filled with hate, and I really don’t care if she comes to love PBO, or not. I don’t believe PBO cares or not either. One way I look at it is that people like her hate themselves more than they hate the O’s because many are choosing not to look out for their own physical well-being .
missed a word in my earlier sentence and it changed the meaning of what I was trying to say – he is the one who is embarrassed to explain his mum (see my comment above – was typing my correction even as you were probably responding to me)
No problem
reading his timeline, I also notice that he is a PBO supporter, a promoter of Obamacare and has other Dems – so his mother at least has a son with a good heart
Well, as some of us know, parents can sometimes be irrational, biased, and hard to convince.
Looking through the most recent batch of photos from Mr. Pete Souza, you can see PBO getting an update about Obamacare enrollment from Ms Tara McGuinness (photo # 49);
;
I thought to myself, that in the middle of all the global challenges PBO was dealing with at the time, he has time to focus on the progress of enrollment!
;
Then I remembered the words in this video from PBO’s own mouth about passing Obamacare:
“it is one of those moments that reminds you why you got into public service in the first place ……. the healthcare vote was probably the most gratifying day of my public life, more then even my election ….. you run and hopefully win elected office not just for the sake of being something, but for the sake of doing something …… “
;
As we come to the end of the initial Obamacare enrollment period,
…..;
we celebrate the fact that millions of our fellow human beings have a chance at a better life because of the dedication and determination of PBO,
…..;
many on Team Obama who work behind the scenes ;
and
…..;
many Democrats in elected office (living and departed),
and
…..;
many aides whose names we will never know but play vital supporting roles to make the ship of state run ;
…….;
all ensured by the votes in two elections and moral support of many ordinary people domestic around the world;
;
I hope that we get a chance to share and promote this clip that Ms. Chips saved (entitled History Captured) to show the road Obamacare has travelled and WHY it is so important for PBO and those of us who love, respect and greatly appreciate him;
;
There are so many creative people who participate in TOD who can make a better outreach than my lousy one below
;
Fine tweet, Linda. Thank you!
why indeed?
yep
which college was this and when did this happen ? seems like American University?
It happened this past Thursday at American University.
thanks for sharing this !
glad to see that the young people still remember the role that he played in destroying so many lives and so much of the nation’s soul, credibility and financial health;
to think that this evil-to-the-core greedy man is regularly given a platform to criticize anyone , especially PBO, boggles my mind
Nerdy’s new post!
