I used to be a secretary to a Navy commanding officer, way way back when I was young and cute. I recall you always had to know which was the senior officer (if they were the same rank and it wasn’t obvious) when placing a call, because you never put that one on hold. So, yeah, Putin got the music. And I laugh.

Just imagine if the administration had been able to provide enough navigators. If Scotus hadn’t gutted Medicaid expansion. If there would have been enough money for publicity and actual mailings from the govt toevery American. ACA would have been the most successful bill in American history. just imagine….

Good point 57! But I’m a bit heartened in recent weeks because I think it will get to that point where it is among the most successful if not the most successful of laws. Given the amount of big money opposition and the amount of effort that went into obstructing, stalling, or destroying everything ACA-related, the fact that it’s on track to meet a goal of 7M by the deadline is quite remarkable.

On another note, I think at some point the administration probably realized that the “best publicity” was not going to come from the WH, or PBO, or HHS, but from the people who actually were using and benefiting from the law. And I think that’s what we’re witnessing right now. Stories from real people like you, the “Staunch Republican Guy who’s a FOX News Addict” and others on Twitter and elsewhere are really allowing people to see the law in effect from ordinary folks who may or may not have political stake in the ACA being a success.

So, Bob, let me get this straight. Russia gets some of its weaponry from a company inside the country it would like to invade? You can’t make up this stuff!!!!! (Seriously, I appreciate the fact they stood up to him!)

Tremendously difficult conditions for the search, yet citizens cooperate with government to carry it out. You can help by donating to United Way of Snohomish County if you are so inclined. I know we are not really supposed to solicit donations at TOD, so I will leave it up to you to Google the link if you are so moved.

Among Tzar Vlad’s many, quite real problems …

    Drunken Nation: Russia’s Depopulation Bomb

“Aspecter is haunting Russia today. It is not the specter of Communism—that ghost has been chained in the attic of the past—but rather of depopulation—a relentless, unremitting, and perhaps unstoppable depopulation. The mass deaths associated with the Communist era may be history, but another sort of mass death may have only just begun, as Russians practice what amounts to an ethnic self-cleansing.

Since 1992, Russia’s human numbers have been progressively dwindling. This slow motion process now taking place in the country carries with it grim and potentially disastrous implications that threaten to recast the contours of life and society in Russia, to diminish the prospects for Russian economic development, and to affect Russia’s potential influence on the world stage in the years ahead.

Russia has faced this problem at other times during the last century. The first bout of depopulation lasted from 1917 to 1923, and was caused by the upheavals that transformed the Russian Empire into the Soviet Union. The next drop took place between 1933 and 1934, when the country’s population fell by nearly 2 million—or almost 2 percent—as a result of Stalin’s war against the “kulaks” in his forced collectivization of Soviet agriculture. And then, between 1941 and 1946, Russia’s population plummeted by more than 13 million through the cataclysms and catastrophes of World War II.

The current Russian depopulation—which began in 1992 and shows no signs of abating—was, like the previous episodes, also precipitated by events of momentous political significance: the final dissolution of the Soviet Union and the end of Communist Party rule. But it differs in three important respects. First, it is by far the longest period of population decline in modern Russian history, having persisted for over twice as long as the decline that followed the Bolshevik Revolution, and well over three times as long as the terrifying depopulation Russia experienced during and immediately after World War II.”

Okay, so here is a classic example of people thinking they know what’s going on – when they don’t. This guy Kasparov has been tweeting nonstop and he makes a HELLUVA LOTTA assumptions in those tweets.

He’s claiming to know exactly what was discussed in the phone convo between Putin and PBO simply based on the read-outs that both parties put out. Beyond that, he has no basis for his claims because he was not listening on the conversation. There is a possibility that Crimea was in fact discussed, and PBO did not put that out there because (1) it was not particularly important to him to have it put out there at this particular point in time, and (2) he foresees that Crimea is about to become a major headache/libabilty for Putin, even though Putin has yet to see it (or perhaps Putin has but needs to save face).

I’m seeing some so-called PBO supporters retweeting this guy like his word is gospel. He’s giving a very one-sided view of things. I will wait to hear from SOS Kerry and PBO himself, thank you very much. These self-professed experts can keep their “knowledge” to themselves.

I ran through a few of his tweets. Never saw such rambling. He’s on BOTH sides of the issue, and, yet, he hates both sides. Or doesn’t. Who knows. I think he should call it a draw and move on, because he’s not sounding credible. Or lucid.

I woke up one morning and I grabbed my cellphone on the way to the bathroom, check my news feed and found out the previous night that Osama had been killed. I don’t question President Obama’s motives or how he operates. President Obama figured out Putin a long time ago.
