AFP: Obama Vows Western Unity Ahead Of Ukraine Crisis Summit

President Barack Obama on Monday vowed Western unity in punishing Moscow for annexing Crimea, ahead of crisis talks that could see Russia excluded from the G8 club of rich nations. In Ukraine itself, the country’s acting president announced that its troops had been given orders to withdraw from Crimea after the fall of another military base to Kremlin troops. “Europe and America are united in our support of the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian people, we’re united in imposing a cost on Russia for its actions so far,” Obama told journalists at Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum. Obama then headed to The Hague where he has called an emergency Group of Seven summit to discuss what steps to take in the worst East-West standoff since the Cold War.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is to meet US Secretary of State John Kerry on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) for what may be their most tense talks to date. It will be their first meeting since Washington imposed financial restrictions on the most powerful members of Putin’s inner circle for their decision to resort to force in response to the fall of Ukraine’s pro-Kremlin regime after three months of sometimes deadly protests.  Kerry has already warned that Moscow risks losing its coveted place among the G8 because of the Crimea crisis. British Prime Minister David Cameron said leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States — minus current G8 chair Russia — must discuss the permanent expulsion of Russia from the group, which it was admitted to in 1998 as a reward for choosing a democratic post-Soviet course.

Good AWESOME, BEAUTIFUL and DELICIOUSLY DYNAMIC MORNING TOD FAMILY!

Okay…..I am doing the happy dance and all that is good. It’s spring break; no school, no kids, no noise, no yelling, no…..you get the picture.

I am enjoying “every second” that I have. It’s all about ‘ME” this week; taking care of myself. I went out and covered 6 miles this morning, so I am feeling great.

    Wishing “EVERYONE” a SPLENDID DAY!!!!

    Smile…..it’s contagious!

Morning, CIndy:) We have spring break, too…and I woke from a dream that the school district “made a mistake” and said that we weren’t really off after all. OMG. I had to situate myself and make sure I was dreaming! I need the peace and quiet now, just as you said. No school, no noise, no kids, no yelling….no breaking up arguments and no tattle tales……I would have cried if I had to go to work today…I really think I would have:) Enjoy your well deserved time off. I’m still tutoring though….

        Hey…..good morning desertflower!!!

Now that was NIGHTMARE : )

I actually closed down tutoring. Last year I covered tutoring during the break and every day was cancellations; beach, mall, friends etc.

This year, I decided that I would take off completely and let the kids enjoy their time. We have to face FCAT, EOC’s and finals, so I told the students that they better enjoy every moment of this time. The next nine weeks will be TOUGH!

Glad to know you are away from the madness as well. It does the heart good : )

        No more nightmares…..we are off!
        HAPPY MONDAY!

I just do not have the words to express how deeply grateful I am to the Obama family for being who they are and for the beauty of their service. A special thank you to Malia and Sasha for sharing their parents with us. It is hard being a teenager in the most normal of circumstances, and how much more difficult it must be when one’s parents are in the White House during these years. My deepest gratitude to Mrs. Robinson as well who left the comfort of the routines of her life in Chicago (this is more important as one gets older) to be there for her children and grand-children. She is the only parent and grand-parent for this small family and I know that they need her.
When people all over the world see this family on the world stage, they dare to dream dreams of what their lives, what their countries can be, and they become emboldened to make these dreams a reality. We got it right, America and the world is changing for the better before our very eyes.

Good morning CEB…HAPPY MONDAY TO YOU!

Thank you for your beautiful statement regarding our 1st Family. I am so PROUD of our First Family. They are beautiful, smart, intelligent, kind, sweet, passionate, and so loving. It breaks my heart when the media focus on garbage instead of being proud of this beautiful family. How can one not be proud? They have represented this country in nothing less than a 1st class manner.

They (media) never spotlight our beautiful 1st Lady. She is so gorgeous and they have so many opportunities to showcase President Obama and Mrs. Obama. They look like a million dollars at these events, and nothing but negative press follows the day after from the media.

I hope they know how much they are loved. I believe that President Obama “BEST DAYS” are still ahead of him. There are prayer warriors on the battlefield for this President, and what the enemy means for evil, God will use it for good and favor President Obama.

My heart bursts with joy when I see this BEAUTIFUL family and I am not a shame to say; I love our 1st family and I pray for them daily. The best is yet to come.

Thank you President Obama, Mrs. Obama, and thank you Lord for giving them to us, for a time such as this.

So glad to have this HAVEN, Chips, where we may see images of our President and First Lady and girls and Mrs. R., from their respective trips abroad!

According to a quick peek at both CNN and MSNBC, the globe has stopped moving and the only thing happening is the – albeit devastating – news about the missing plane. Nothing about Ukraine, Russia, the President, our First Lady. Nada.

Hey, I’ll stop whining and just thank you again!! The MSM cannot steal our damn joy! Ha!

    • March 24, 2014 at 11:16 am

They never fail to amaze me, Jacqueline. The First Lady’s China visit has been just beautiful, she’s a spectacular ambassador and you can just see from the faces around her how warmly she is being received and what an impression she is making. But the media don’t consider it worth covering because it’s too positive.

I still have two huge piles of snow in my postage stamp-sized yard but that’s because everything got piled in these areas. They are shrinking of course but I want all vestige of snow GONE.

I do understand CEB. That is exactly what I have experienced. I am always caring for others. Even when I’m not teaching or tutoring, parents are calling because the student has failed a test or something. This is why I am being selfish this week.

I just want to enjoy the small things right now; taking my 6 mile walk like I use to do, enjoying a cup of coffee without rushing and no driving 70-100 miles each day. The BEST enjoyment of my day, is coming to the TOD community; update on real news and seeing how everyone is doing.

How are you doing my friend? I was in awe after reading your testimony. I am so very happy for you, getting your Obamacare is a BFD-AWESOME! Your willingness to share your experience and truths to the world was so powerful and passionate. My heart was smiling as I read your beautiful testimony. I pray that EVERYTHING is 100% fine as you go through your checkups.

How is Mr. 57 and the babies? I read about Kasper’s adventures of hiding toys. He must be upset that you found his hiding place mom : (

How is Pretty girl Miss Pearl and of course Mr. Nickelby?

How is your dear friend Heather doing? I have kept her and Remy in my prayers. I always think of your good hearts for the work that you carry out for our four legged friends. Channel 10 showcase puppies for adoption on the weekends and they showed this little fellow who is 6 years of age, and I immediately thought of you and your beautiful words about adopting an older pet.

          I do hope Remy is doing better and that Heather is understanding that her work is so valuable to those animals that she cares for. I know she was in despair over the lost of her patient but you guys are making a difference in your work. I am thankful for what you do. Sending prayers and hugs your way. Heather doesn’t know me but please let her know that she is on my prayer list. {{{{{{{Heather/Remy}}}}]}}}

            Hi, girlfriend!

So much to answer. Remy is finally home and well! heather is still dealing with the loss of Barney but at least her other baby boy is doing great.

Well, $1,200 in car repairs after I hit a grave-sized pothole on Thursday. A recurrence of my ‘Twilight Zone’ face as half of my face swelled up on Saturday. At least this time when I see the doctor I will have insurance! I’ll get going on mammogram, and other preventive screenings. What peace of mind…….

The doggie babies are doing great. The boys are in serious need of a decent walk and some exercise. If it would just warm up………. Pearl is my sweet Angel. She is just a joy……

And my other source of joy – your friendship and the positive energy I feel from you. Sending all positive and healing energy to you, my friend……

Caught a glimpse of Susan Rice getting in the car with POTUS (around 3:46 in the 2nd video in the headline).
I’m always so thrilled to see her at the President’s side. Glad she’s with him on this momentous trip.

I especially like the photo that shows Dr. Rice (busy on her phone) with the other staffers, the majority of whom are women, standing on the sidelines as PBO makes comments. I do knot know where some idiots came up with the idea about a lack of gender diversity in PBO’s administration. From the time that he first ran for president to the present, he has always been surrounded by, working with, listening to and promoting talented women. PBO has never kept women in the back or in binders, sheesh!

Hi MP. Hope you are doing well. We had the same thing happen in SoCal about ten or so years ago. A mountain slide off Pacific Coast Hwy that buried homes and people. It is so devastating. Prayers to the folks in Arlington and Oso.

Arrgh! My housemate’s being trying to sign for an ACA plan today. She tried back in October when all the big glitchy stuff was going on. Decided to wait until things died down and try again. Now her account’s locked up. Says nice people on the phone have been trying to help resolve the situation for the past 45 minutes. No luck so far. Ugh! Not NOW! Come on IT guys!!!

    • March 24, 2014 at 11:59 am

They’ve really been getting slammed as we near the deadline. Over a million visits to the website last weekend.
I hope things work out for your housemate SOON!

        Hey Meta,

When they fixed the glitches and all to handle heavy volume, did they put a number on it? I was just wondering because they are going to enter over drive and I don’t want to see it crash. A positive thing no doubt because people want insurance, but a negative thing when the repukes start with lies.

        • March 24, 2014 at 12:21 pm

No number. It’s tough to predict this situation. But I have faith in the process. They may be some exceptions to the deadline if people encounter specific problems.

      • 93 Dudette
        March 24, 2014 at 12:16 pm

Thanks meta. Me too. They told her they didn’t think the problem was volume, but it’s hard to think it’s not.

She’s one of the long-term unemployed the GOP keeps screwing. She’s extremely talented with credentials out the wazzou and still hasn’t found a full-time gig in a year and a half, other than the occasional short-term contract. The poor thing has suffered one soul crushing setback after another. Who wouldn’t be suffering from depression in her circumstances? She’s close to depleting her life savings. I’m grateful I can be here to help her. So many others don’t have any kind of support system. From what she’s hearing from others in her situation locally, she’s worried she might still not be able to afford a plan. The refusal of our steaming pile of excrement Governor Nathan Deal and his GOP cronies to do anything to help the 600K uninsured in this state is more than despicable — it’s downright evil.

Aside from rejecting the Medicaid expansion, did you know these bastards tried to pass a bill banning anyone in any state-funded agency from evening helping people get ACA plans? I heard on the radio yester that particular bill failed, thank goodness, but that they’ve now just chopped it up into pieces and attached it on to other bills. How evil is that? Damn them all to hell!

        • March 24, 2014 at 12:20 pm

Wow, that is pure evil. Unbelievable.

Hugs to your roommate. That is so tough.

Sorry to hear this news Dudette,

I don’t know how people like this look at themselves in a mirror. The soul is gone and they have no heart. May they rot in hell.

I pray that your friend will come through this and that her life will turn around with a wealth of blessings chasing her down. I will be praying for her.

Have your friend create a new email account and re-register. I sailed through once I did that, as have others that I’ve told to do this.

Now, it is unconscionable that they have not figured out how to unlock those accounts from the early days.

Dudette, it needs to be an entirely different email address. That seems to be the key. Then, of course, she will be inundated with emails about the fact that she hasn’t yet enrolled (although you can’t enroll with the email address they send the reminders to!)

I love my precious PBO but the software company they chose is notorious for being lousy. I have friends in upper level IT who were appalled that that company was chosen.

If Democrats sit home this November and let these crazy ass Republicans keep the House and get control of the Senate, then we deserve exactly what we get. Hearing something like this ought to motivate Dems to get out to vote in November. I can see those jackasses in D.C passing the same kind of bills.

      March 24, 2014 at 12:21 pm

This is sad. I have stopped fights in the classroom, can you imagine if guns are in the classroom? What happens if a teacher is having a bad day and the student mouths off, as they do, and disrupts the classroom?

What happens when that teacher reaches his or her breaking point? This is dangerous in every scenario, someone is likely to be killed or severely injured. I don’t understand this love fest with guns.

    • March 24, 2014 at 12:24 pm

        Hi Dudette,

I hope all works out well for your housemate (both with ACA sign-up and employment). She’s blessed to have your friendship.

I’ll repeat what you you noted, but louder “FUCKING REPUBLICANS”.

Taking Medicaid expansion from the voters:
Georgia’s governor, Nathan Deal, has consistently said that he will not expand Medicaid in the state. Sadly, this affects the 220,000 children in Georgia who are uninsured. This is literally the fourth highest number of all states in America. Fortunately, a recent poll showed that Jimmy Carter’s Democratic grandson, Jason Carter, was leading the most unethical governor in America in the polls.

This right here, is f**ked up:
This, of course, meant that Medicaid would likely be expanded if Carter won. Well, being the party that cheats to get what it wants, the Republicans weren’t hearing of it. They passed a law that would strip the state’s governor of the ability to expand Medicaid. In turn, it put the decision into the hands of the overwhelmingly-Republican state legislative branches. The worst part? Nathan Deal says he supports it, so it seems as if the GOP in Georgia is willing to ignore the will of the people next election day.

The worse thing about this is that trying to roll back some of these laws will be next to impossible. Even sane attempts to regulate are seen as “coming to take your guns”.
Yes, there will be shootings in bars, airports and schools, but it will never be the fault of the laws that allow this. It is sick.

I was in Amsterdam last Monday–missed the president by a week. My hotel was around the corner from the museum . It is quite a building. We ended our trip in London and the news had clips of the Chelsea soccer game and also a picture of a goal Rooney made for Man. U. I would never have known those names if it weren’t for this blog. What an education I’m getting!

Those speeches were wonderful, and like meta, I too learned some things! We forget often how important Holland was in the early history of the U.S. So good to be reminded of our long and deep connection. The visit of our President also brings the Netherlands into the international spotlight. He is so good for so many countries.
Now, I MUST visit the Rijksmuseum. I want to stand where PBO and the PM are standing and view that wonderful painting.

Isn’t it wonderful to know that when PBO travels outside the U.S., we can be proud! All leaders want to be with him; no one wanted to be with GWB.

I hope you all read Steve Benen’s article rebutting Mitt’s stupidity yesterday about the decline U.S. favorability around the world. The exact opposite is true, as shown by many polls. The low point was of course, during the Bush/Cheney admin. Our favorability around the world has gone up measurably…..in Europe by 18%. Give PBO another three years, and it will rise still more.

    • March 24, 2014 at 1:36 pm

DO visit the Rijksmuseum!! It’s an absolutely amazing collection and it has just completed a 10 year renovation.

I’ve been there and stood in the place where they are standing only I was looking at the painting up close. It is spectacular, as is the entire museum. I was born in Holland, so it was very emotional to go back to my birthplace.

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/rick-scott-press-call-cut-short-mike-fernandez

According to The Orlando Sentinel, Lopez-Cantera first answered one question about a new campaign ad attacking former Gov. Charlie Crist (D), the likely Democratic gubernatorial nominee, then three on Fernandez’s decision to leave the campaign. On the third question Lopez-Cantera said the call was about the new ad, not Fernandez.

Then the call was cut off.

“I think that’s all the time we have for today,” Florida Republican Party Communications Director Susan Hepworth said while ending the press call. The call lasted 17 minutes, according to the Sentinel.

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/belgian-newspaper-apologizes-satire-obama-ape

A Belgian newspaper apologized Monday after it was accused of racism for running a satirical feature that depicted President Barack Obama as an ape.

Ahead of Obama’s planned visit to the country, Flemish daily De Morgen ran an image Saturday in its “The Daily Herald” satirical section — titled “The Obama Herald” for the occasion — that doctored a photo of the President and First Lady Michelle Obama to make them look like two apes, according to The Independent.
    //////

From this pissed off Human Being, This apology is Not acceptable. There is Nothing Satirical about the Hate, dehumanization and especially in the 21st Century Racism is Never No Longer to Ever be Excused.
