BTW, h/t to Meta for encouraging all of us, in the previous post, to spread the ‘Spoils of war’ graphic. Happy to do so and to tag it to the person whom ultimately must be held accountable. No doubt, Putin was enabled by many actions and non-actions of GWB, but without any doubt, GWB’s immoral and illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq sits at the top of the heap.

What I totally don’t get, LP, is why those firefighters didn’t get the hell out of there.

TY, Dudette! Problem is now you can go from hero to zero……. ever correct pick is now worth the equivalent of 4 correct picks from the first round. Will be 8x more valuable next round, 16x round after that, and if you have the winner it would be like get all 32 first round games correct!

Awesome! I’m doing okay all things considered. I’m in the middle of the pack with 10 of the 16. The fact that that qualifies me to be in the middle says how many upsets there were.

          • March 25, 2014 at 12:39 pm

The first two rounds are always good for bragging rights…..having 10/16 teams left puts you in a great spot as long as the leaders don’t have the exact final 4 & Champion as you do. I got lucky on some of my upsets…one possession games could have gone the other way.The only teams I picked to go far besides chalk were Tennessee, Baylor, & Carolina. Tennesse beat #1 seed Virginia by 35 earlier this year and they have big/lanky players that always perform well matchup wise. Baylor has really athletic players and I liked they way they played during the Big 12 Tournament. UNC losing is gonna hurt me b/c I had them going to Elite 8 beating Nova. I didn’t have Stanford, Dayton, Uconn, Iowa St. advancing…. my fingers are crossed for this weekend!!

“Night vision technology has been around for a while, but it’s only really used by professionals (or professional creeps) due to its prohibitive size. But what if night vision was something you could fit into a pair of contact lenses? You could keep a pair in your bag to slip in if you were going to be walking home alone in the dark, or even use them to take a night-time jaunt through a forest without spooking all the animals.

All this and more could be possible in the future thanks to a new development by researchers in the US using graphene lenses to sense “the full infrared spectrum” plus visible and ultraviolet light. “We can make the entire design super-thin,” said Zhaohui Zhong, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Michigan. “It can be stacked on a contact lens or integrated with a cell phone……..”

Does this mean I might be able to drive after dark again, someday?

        • March 24, 2014 at 10:56 pm

It depends on the attenuation of sources of light, i.e., the ability of the embedded software/firmware to detect intensity of sources of light you would encounter (like an oncoming car) and not have it ‘blind you’ temporarily. BTW, that’s all achievable, at some point.

I see, no pun intended!! For me it’s light coming from all directions, artificial light, walking is okay. But oncoming, side views and rear view, glare on the roadway, and of course especially in the rain: it seems to come from everywhere, on the bonnet, on the boot, bounces off parked cars, all adds up to feeling very disoriented and out-of-time with the motion of traffic. So, someone else drives, or I stay home! Safer for everyone that way!! 😉

The US media must be seething when they look at those countries’ unabashed adoration of our President.

And it looks like Mr. Yardarm will have to rush-order some Naughty Mat shipments to Europe….Meanwhile, the Dutch will have to apologize to A & E.
