    Great Great Wall photos. 🙂
As if we didn’t know, here’s proof of what PBO is doing with his free time while fam is away——watching a little NCAA bball. He sent a congrats tweet to Dayton for its upset win. It always amazes me when I hear PBO interviewed on sports radio/tv, that he knows everything about every team, every player, in every sport. Altho, I shouldn’t be surprised since he seems to know everything about everything, period.
Was enjoying this article until I got to the one snottypot reply the writer had to include. I always wonder if that’s a requirement these days—–must include one nasty tidbit or won’t get published. I always want to tell them—–just go back to straight reporting on a story, no need to include some hate. PBO gets to unwind and do what he enjoys with his free time. No one deserves it more.

One idiot tweeted, you have bigger things to worry about. I call that person a idiot because I meant just that. As if the President can’t sit down and watch alittle basketball. I’m sure every minute of the day George W. Bush wasn’t sitting there worrying about Iraq. Bush came right out and told us that he wasn’t concern about Osama bin Laden. It seem since this black President was elected certain people have lost all common sense, makes me wonder if they ever had any.

      • 18 anniebella
        March 23, 2014 at 9:29 am

According to that tweeter Bush should have been spending every waking minute on capturing bin Laden. But we know who got the job done there.Just my point about those people, they complain if the President or his family goes any where, they complain if they stays home watching basketball. Bottom line is they don’t like them and they don’t want them in the White House. But to dam bad he was elected. Twice! And I would vote for him again if he ran.

I’m not sure what is AP’s point here–isn’t it always the case that “many” people don’t do what is required or desirable for “all sorts of reasons?” For example, many people don’t save as they should for “all sorts of reasons.” Many people don’t eat right for “all sorts of reasons.” Many people drop out of college for “all sorts of reasons.” Many people lose their jobs for “all sorts of reasons.”

Can someone advise me as to what is AP’s point?

      March 23, 2014 at 9:01 am

HF, just another failed attempt at trying to put a negative spin on the ACA. It would have been to much trouble to point out the positive stories of folks who signed up for the ACA.

      March 23, 2014 at 9:05 am

Now that the CBO estimate of 6 million about to be reached, AP had to spin it.

      • 25 hopefruit2
        March 23, 2014 at 9:07 am

Yup – and they are unwilling to quantify their “many” which obviously is dwarfed by the actual number that have enrolled vis-a-vis the CBO projected estimate.

    • 26 jackiegrumbacher
      March 23, 2014 at 9:08 am

Hf, also many people don’t pay their taxes on April 15, don’t sign up for Medicare when they’re 65 or Social Security when they’re 66. Many fail to get their cars inspected on time, though the expiration sticker is right there on their car window. So, there is no point. Just vapid stupidity.

        1001% correct.

The media has been obsessive for finding negative stories against POTUS and Dems, but they have been dutifully refusing to shine light on 5M plus Americans being denied coverage by the GOP.

They have refused to challenge or even ask those states and governors who have willingly refused to get heath insurance coverage for millions of Americans.

As KOJAK would always say: Who loves you baby…..in this case, America?

    • 31 Don
      March 23, 2014 at 9:09 am

“All sorts of reasons” is the equivalent of the AP throwing up its hands at trying to find a negative with the ACA. They would have been better off by saying “fuck the ACA.”

    • March 23, 2014 at 9:58 am

I think that it is their attempt to blame the President…because as Chuck Todd has said it is not his JOB to point out lies…error …distortions….etc…for instance two of the folks highlighted in the article would be eligible for Medicaid expansion but their states NC and NJ have refused the Medicaid expansion….but now where in the article is that stated

and then one person says that he does not want to be forced to take Health Insurance…anti Gov but wants to wait till he can get Medicare …ohhh and he has a family member who is a representative who wants to repeal the law…

for some it can be daunting to use the computer on your own…hence navigators are so important…but there was so much obstruction by the GOP …they cut funding that would have produced more navigators….. to say nothing of the Govs who would rather have folks remain uninsured…

but Our Media …puts none of this out there…does not provide useful information that could help…in fact they have become a tool of obstruction..

Prettyfoot, your last sentence explains it all. I know they won’t publish many, but we should all write a letter to the editor of our paper pointing this out and telling a positive personal story. Twitter probably works better to reach young people.

Let them keep spinning. As the ACA becomes established and more people recognize not only the benefits but the shame of having been without it for decades, these so-called ‘professional media’ views will bury themselves, and I suspect more and a number of these tabloids (yes AP, you) will be scrubbing their files of these ohnoes, hoping no one remembers how poorly their forecasts truly were. But we will remember.

Bravo, Joe. I hear this all the time in my Republican area about attitudes toward Latinos. “Oh, that’s just how some white country people are brought up” as if that’s an excuse for their narrow minds and hateful dismissal of anyone who doesn’t look like them. No matter how you’re “brought up,” you need to grow up some day and both recognize and shed the burden of hate you carry around with you. Right now, Vlad, the tsar, Putin is purposely fomenting Russian hatred against Ukrainians, which makes him an utterly despicable and loathsome creature in my book.

This is going to make me furious——if PBO’s Surgeon Gen. pick is not approved. The Democrats in the senate are “in retreat”??? They are going to let the NRA control them, control and wreck this country? This is beyond ridiculous and shameful. The Dems need to take a stand here, have some integrity, do the right thing and approve this nominee, who is highly qualified by every measure.

      March 23, 2014 at 9:17 am

I’m with you on this, dotster. We expect hateful prejudice and sabotage from Republicans, but Democrats have NO business doing this. If they think this is going to “help” them win elections, they are tragically and massively mistaken.

    • March 23, 2014 at 10:11 am

What i find most interesting…is that for the most part this struggle around guns is most always related to the issue of rights and the 2nd amendment….calling gun violence a “Public Health” Issue….puts the struggle around guns and gun violence on a new platform….to have a Surgeon General talk about the issue in this way…is a way to bring about regulation…just like any other health issue….like Koop…and the issue of smoking…

now for Public Health/anti gun violence advocates…what do we do….how do we once again fight this issue…….

Now that a US congressional aide has been threatened in an email message by Russian operatives, the media’s attitude towards this conflict is going to shift..they can no longer spin this as a “duel between Putin & Obama.”

Furthermore, all those racists who thought that they were going to cheerlead Putin against PBO will have no choice but to reconsider their positions – if you see the content of that email – it makes specific reference to the aide’s ethnicity, and it is VILE.

Little Nate almost ALWAYS predicts GOP advantage more than 6 months out – in fact, I’ve noticed that when he cannot predict GOP advantage, he simply does not report. And then when the time gets closer, he has to adjust his models to reflect reality.

So I caution folks to take this “forecast” with the appropriate amount of salt. I personally prefer Sam Wang who has been more accurate than Silver.

    • March 23, 2014 at 10:59 am

I just remember all the folks who said that PBO was doomed….

However PBO had a message…and an awesome ground plan….

Smartypants linked an article written in 2007…telling the story of the organizers of Team Obama…

      simply amazing….

“The purpose of this weekend training, Ganz explained, was not only to learn skills, form teams and get organized–but much more importantly, to learn how to tell our own stories, how to “put into words why you’re called, and why we’ve been called, to change the way the world works.”

Those “stories of self” and “stories of us” were to be the most powerful tool for these campaigners–along with the ability to teach others how to tell their stories–back home recruiting and motivating volunteers and building relationships.

THIS is what the DEMs must learn from the 2 campaigns of President Barack Obama..

i do not know who was interviewing the President…i think it was Michael Lewis…when PBO was asked…what was his biggest regret of his first term…he said that it was not telling stories to the American People about what had to be done….

      • March 23, 2014 at 11:03 am

which i must say…PBO has done…he continually takes it to the people…telling his story…our story…the story of WE the People” and i love him for it

      March 23, 2014 at 12:25 pm

Also Nate Silver Only uses the numbers available today. He can’t know what the numbers will be in April, May, June, etc. As the numbers emerge, Silver would adjust. He is a numbers guy.

If Dems come out to vote as they did in 2006……then Nov 201 will be Victorious.

      • 93 hopefruit2
        March 23, 2014 at 1:33 pm

He does not report when the Dems are leading – I’ve noticed this pattern for some time now. He reports for the wider media consumption and thus pushes the “GOP ahead” which is the desired MSM meme – that is, until it gets very close to the actual election and his reputation is at stake.

Here’s an example of what I mean:

  33. 94 carolyn
    March 23, 2014 at 11:02 am

Well, I can rest easy. Newt Gingrich’s predictions are always wrong! He’s more accurate negatively than any poll, or Nate. Just take the opposite of what Newt says, and you’ll get it right. That’s from my experience.

    Good Read.

Consider, as Exhibit A, the Bush tax cuts. Bush did cut the top tax rate on earned income from 39.6 to 35 percent, a 12 percent reduction. But he cut the rate on capital gains from 21 to 15, a 28 percent reduction; he cut the rate on dividends from 39.6 (because dividends were previously taxed as ordinary income) to 15, a reduction of more than 60 percent. And he put the estate tax on a path toward zero — a 100 percent reduction.

The estate tax made a partial comeback thanks to the awkward fact that a Democrat was in the White House, and there have been some tax hikes on capital income. The point, however, was that Bush tried to give people living off wealth, inherited wealth in particular, much bigger tax cuts than he gave high earners.

And the efforts go on. I know that Paul Ryan likes to lecture the poor about the dignity of work; but his famous initial “roadmap” called for the complete elimination of taxes on interest, capital gains, and dividends, plus elimination of the estate tax. In other words, he proposed eliminating all taxes on income derived from wealth.

Now, Ryan casts this as policy that favors saving. But the truth is that it would mainly favor people born on third base or beyond. Even now, 6 of the 10 wealthiest Americans are heirs rather than self-made entrepreneurs — the Koch brothers plus a bunch of Waltons. There’s every reason to believe that the role of inheritance will only grow over time.
