FTR, if POTUS ever calls me, you can bet I would

not share that information in the village for two reasons – i) I am a believer in privacy (get really ticked when people relate private convos with him or try to sell his signature, and ii) I wouldn’t want to be responsible for any villager passing out from jealousy.

“BUFFALO, N.Y. — Dayton senior basketball player Devin Oliver, a Kalamazoo native, helped lead the Flyers to a 55-53 upset win over Syracuse on Saturday in Buffalo and it caught the attention of President Barack Obama…………… Oliver, who helped Kalamazoo Central High School win a state championship in 2010, scored seven points, 10 rebounds, dished out four assists and came up with three steals in the win over the Orange to send the Flyers to the Sweet 16, where they will play either Kansas or Stanford next week in Memphis………”

Kalamazoo Central won the Race To The Top High School Commencement Challenge in 2010 and won the right to have Obama be the guest speaker.
Oliver said he challenged the president to a game of one-on-one when they met and he said Saturday night it was pretty cool the president remembered.

My pleasure GGail! That young man is so stoked!! Not only did they pull off two of the most memorable upsets this year of the NCAA tournament (beat Ohio St. by 1pt. & Syracuse by 2pts.) but he was also the one who introduced President Obama, after his school won the RTTP High School commencement challenge 😎

I’ll say sports is it’s own language, but never mind that: it seems only fair that PBO should get at least some decent time on the bball court before taking on this kid! After all, how many hours a day the kid gets to practice, and we all know what PBO has on his plate each and every day – not much time to play anything!!

[From the previous thread] This is our Vice President …

Joe Biden called employers’ ability in some states to fire employees because of their sexuality “barbaric” and “bizarre” during a keynote address at the Human Rights Campaign Gala dinner Saturday. “Hate can never be defended because it’s a so-called cultural norm,” he said. “I’ve had it up to here with cultural norms.”

… and why I’m forever ridin’ with Biden!

    Breaking news!!!

My nephew applied for CoveredCA. Turns out he’s too poor for the subsidy, so he’s been given MediCAL. Now, he currently has insurance that he pays for out of pocket with Kaiser. But it’s a hell of a lot of money a month, and the copay to see a doctor is $100. That’s insane. So now his monthly premium is ZERO, and when he gets more paying gigs he can reapply in the fall for another plan.

    Thanks a lot Obama!

What is Jimmy Carter’s problem lately? First he claims that PBO is the “only” President who hasn’t asked him for advice, Now he is saying that he believes NSA is monitoring his email.

    • March 23, 2014 at 2:28 pm

PBO is the “only” President who hasn’t asked him for advice? Considering his rather frosty relationship with Bill, I’d have my doubts his advice was sought then either 🙄

Besides, much as I like Jimmy, the political world has moved on a bit since his Presidency, so I’m not sure why his advice should be sought?

What is it with these people that constantly need validation from President Obama? I’ll tell you what it is, “Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan.” These people want to be a part of something monumental, they want in on President Obama’s legacy. President Carter spilled the beans, and now you know why Bill Clinton acts the way he does. You don’t see anyone beating down Clinton’s door these days except his most devoted acolytes. By the end of President Obama’s first term he was being mentioned among our greatest Presidents of the last one hundred years. They want in!

BINGO! He’s smarter than the entire lot of them IMO….because he’s a long term thinker that games out all the possible scenarios, and addresses them BEFORE the fact, if at all possible. Such a spot on comment, Don. I think they are afraid of what he can still do in his remaining time…and that all the sheeple might wake up to who’s REALLY been trying to fuck them over all these years. Just sayin’.

      • March 23, 2014 at 4:13 pm

        Accurate assessment, Don.

As to “They want in.” What’s so sad is that President Obama would willingly hold the door open for them (and has tried, countless times, to do just that). The ones who have crossed the threshold and truly participated in the major accomplishments of his Presidency – Joe Biden, John Kerry, Samantha Power, Susan Rice ………………………, actually a very long list – will never regret having done so and will share in the glory that President Obama will always share with them.

        #TrustBarack …. you’ll never regret it …

Hello TOD…I am delurking just to update you on some of the happenings in OBAMACARE in my neck of the woods in New Jersey.
The pace of enrollment has picked up tremendously for the past few weeks (yes people do tend to wait for the last minute).
I posted sometime last October that I had done the required exam and became a Certified Counselor as I wanted to be able
to help get PBO’s word out and help to sign up people. Well it has proven sooo rewarding. Nothing like seeing the grateful look
or even tears in the eyes of ordinary people who were once shut out of Healthcare.

One of the many things I find interesting, is that the majority of people who show up at our door always have this look of uncertainty
on their faces and the first words that come out of their mouths are “Is this where I can sign up/get OBAMACARE ?” Never just healthcare
or ACA. So the name has stuck. And that’s a very good thing.

The past two Fridays were so busy we had to reassign people to Monday. A reporter from one of the local newspapers even came in
and did a write -up of what we were doing along with interviewing clients who were signing up.

The Repubs are crazy if they think they are going to repeal this GEM that our President fought for. No they can’t! Not with all the
enthusiasm and gratefulness I am seeing on peoples’ faces.

What has surprised me is the amount of people who come in that have either no job or very low paying jobs. So a lot of them therefore
qualify for Medicaid Expansion. Luckily our big- ego/bullying Governor had accepted the ME…even if for his own selfish political re-election

This week will be even more crazy. But I call that GOOD CRAZY. the more sign-ups the better. Looking forward to the challenge.

Love you all at TOD and all the Info you provide. Hope to post more frequently one of these days.

The media is no longer interested in Russia/Crimea/Ukraine now that the US has slapped on some serious sanctions and they can no longer push the “Obama-is-weak” meme. Instead, now they’re focused on foolishness like what Jimmy Carter said about PBO/NSA, or FLOTUS’ mother and security detail in .

HF, the corporate media has the attention span of gnats. They will keep flitting from subject to subject to carry out their bosses desire to undermine the president. If one topic isn’t working, they move on. Jimmy Carter and anything to do with our FLOTUS’ trip will be stale by tomorrow and they’ll try some other morsel. If you were to ask them why they aren’t engaged in informing people, I’m sure they would wonder what you were talking about. Real information is an alien concept to them.

Seems we’re not alone in noting the inconsistencies ….

“I have long defended Stop the War and other radical anti-war activists against those who claim that they are inconsistent and full of supporters of anti-Western authoritarian regimes. I have even been to several STWC marches and events. I was almost willing to chalk this russian crimeawhole episode down to misplaced intentions to refuse to feed into an anti-Russian narrative. But as I wrote this, Stop the War posted an article which claimed that “[i]t might be a close run thing, but in this instance Russia has more right on its side than the West – which is the same thing as saying, more simply, that Putin and Russia are right”. They have officially declared themselves in favour of Russia, shortly after Russia invades part of a country and threatens to launch war against the rest of it. So much for stopping the war. To be clear, I am categorically opposed to a multitude of aspects of Western foreign policy, and you have to be blind not to see that the United States and United Kingdom have historically played the role of major imperialist states, destabilising smaller nations and contributing to the deaths of millions. And most of those shouting loudest about Russian aggression today were in favour of US aggression in the past, most clearly during the Iraq War (which was, so far, greatly more destructive than Putin’s annexation of Crimea). But to take this fact and use it to justify the actions of another major imperialist state is illogical, inconsistent and immoral. I shouldn’t even have to point that out. But by buying into this narrative for dubious political reasons, the anti-war Left have actually helped to legitimate the very thing they are supposed to be against.”

Lots of details in the essay linked in the tweet.

    • 123 hopefruit2
      March 23, 2014 at 4:27 pm

This partly explains why the so-called anti-war left is suddenly cheerleading for Russia.

Frankly, I think it’s probable that some russian operatives are at work in leftist blogs. They know how to push their buttons. The anti-government meme in the USA has penetrated the left so much they don’t even realize they’ve become the tools of the enemies of democracy.
