I wonder if FLOTUS will have a chance to see her brother-in-law, the famous pianist and artist Mark Obama Ndesandjo. Perhaps Malia and Sasha will also meet their cousin.

UN General Assembly to meet on Ukraine next week

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The General Assembly will hold an open meeting next week which will give all 193 U.N. member states their first opportunity to speak on the crisis in Ukraine.

Diplomats said Ukraine is preparing a resolution for the March 27 meeting of the General Assembly, announced Friday.

Will be interesting to see just how isolated they are among 193 UN member states. UNGA resolutions are not legally binding but they certainly serve as a gauge of international support or rejection of the actions of a country.

56 of the 57 members of the OSCE rebuked Russia earlier this week. It now appears that Russia will stop blocking the OSCE monitors.

“The OSCE will hold an extraordinary meeting on Friday evening and diplomats said the rights and security body may finally reach a unanimous agreement to send a monitoring mission to Ukraine.

“It seems so,” one Western diplomat said when asked if an agreement had been reached on the observer mission. The meeting was scheduled to start at 1830 GMT in Vienna, officials said.”

song of the year—-maybe song of the decade

I was going about my business in lower Manhattan yesterday and I passed a group of teens who were doing “Happy” a cappella and dancing.

This song reminds me of that song by Bobby McFerrin “Don’t Worry Be Happy”. People couldn’t get enough of that song just like they can’t get enough of this Pharrell song “Happy”. The songs don’t sound anything alike, but it’s were people have just fallen for that song.

THIS!!!!! PBO is out there promoting the ACA every chance he gets, and these weak Democrats are shooting themselves in the foot. He is traveling around the country raising money for their sorry a%%%% and they cannot give him the courteousy of their full support of the ACA.

  12. March 21, 2014 at 1:53 pm

“And third: to make clear that we can no longer do business as usual with Russia.

First, collective defence. No one should doubt NATO’s resolve if the security of any of its members were to be threatened. Our commitment to the security of all Allies is unbreakable. Now and in the future.

This commitment is not just about words, but real assets and real actions. More planes to police the airspace over the Baltics. Surveillance flights over Poland and Romania. And we remain vigilant and ready to take all necessary steps. Our goal is to defuse the crisis on our borders. And make no mistake – we will defend our Allies.

Second, we will strengthen our support for Ukraine. We will intensify political and military cooperation. That includes:

    – support of the transformation of Ukrainian armed forces into modern and effective organizations, able to provide credible deterrence and defence against military threats
    – enhancing the ability of the Ukrainian armed forces to work and operate together with armed forces of NATO Allies
    – increased participation in NATO exercises

This will be done both as an Alliance and by Allies individually.”

I’m going to just say it, these elected democrats are sickening. President Obama handed their asses a winning platform to run on, the only thing they had to do was go to their town hall meetings, say “Obamacare” drop the mic and leave, but not, these soft-ass mofo’s are spitting up all over themselves. President Obama changed the game in the same way that Lincoln and LBJ changed the game for the betterment of mankind. How do you not run on what President Obama has accomplished?

    • March 21, 2014 at 2:17 pm

They would be NOTHING without President Obama.

    • March 21, 2014 at 2:20 pm

Don, I assure you, starting within the next few weeks and accelerating through the summer, any Democrat running anywhere – including in Red States that have blocked Medicaid expansion and access to Obamacare – will be leveraging it big time.

Most are your typical politician – weak, poll driven, job seekers. So, they just needed to see how successful the program is to start claiming it as ‘their grand legislative achievement.’ No different than how Republicans, throughout America, who railed and voted against the stimulus, were (and remain) all to eager to claim success within their CDs because of stimulus-funded programs.

What’s so cool about President Obama is that he gets all that and he just keeps moving the country #FORWARD.

        March 21, 2014 at 3:12 pm

Exactly my thoughts, bobfr. As the population uses their new and previously unknown access to medical care, they will begin to recognize there is no excuse for ever having gone with out it. And they will be loud and pissed if anyone offers (!) to take it away from them, ever again. Because it’s new, because no one understands what a gift the ACA really is to all our futures, there may still be some uncertainty and confusion. That will pass as the implications become clear through practice and experience.

Seeing signs of life in the previous “sitting it out—we have to fix the ACA” bunch.
Bob says Trust Barack and I do.

Nevertheless it is good to reassert our extraordinarily strong and true values. ACA is THE Greatest step forward for America in a very long time and guess who made it happen?

Not the DINOS and liberals—-looking at you Rahm, Lawrence O’Donnell—who were saying “Obamacare is DOA,” that’s for sure.

To be fair, Don, there isn’t one Democratic candidate for governor in PA, who hasn’t strongly supported ACA and roundly condemned Corbett for his failure to expand Medicare. The ones who do this the loudest and the best will win.

  18. March 21, 2014 at 2:14 pm

    And then there’s Libya …

“President Obama pulled off a master stroke this week. He deployed U.S. military force in support of an infant democracy that desperately needs our help. The result was a resounding success, a vivid illustration of how the United States can put its unchallenged power to positive ends.

He did it, once again, by sending in the SEALs, the U.S. Navy’s famous special forces. But this time they weren’t double-tapping a terrorist. Instead they seized a mysterious tanker that had skipped out of Libya with a shipment of oil that one of the country’s rogue militias was trying to sell on the open market. By doing it the SEALs foiled a potentially game-changing challenge to the authority of Libya’s hard-pressed government — one of the very few in the Arab world to have actually been elected by its own country’s people.

The reaction in Washington: a giant yawn. Deafening silence from Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham, who are always quick to demand U.S. military action in situations where it will usually make things worse. Fox News barely noticed. Nor was there a word of praise from the president’s liberal allies on Capitol Hill. Even the New York Times ran a perfunctory report.

And as for the rest of America: Well, hey, the NCAA tournament is getting under way, and there are big controversies from the world of reality TV that need attending to.”

    • March 21, 2014 at 2:28 pm

Really urge all of you to read this report and am sure you know just whom to tweet it ….

“Make no mistake: This was not “leading from behind.” This was an act of daring from a president who’s often typecast as too passive for his own good. But it was also a smart, calculated move — a truly surgical operation of a kind that probably only the United States could have pulled off with such confidence. It sends exactly the message that needs to be sent: If you try freelancing with oil resources that rightfully belong to the Libyan people, you won’t get far.

(You’d think this would be just the sort of exercise in hands-on democracy promotion that a U.S. Naval Academy alumnus, of all people, could appreciate. Ahem, Senator McCain?)”

  20. March 21, 2014 at 2:23 pm

Howdy all you O’s!!!! It’s a great getting up day again on TOD Avenue!!!! I had a nice long walk in the fine weather we’re having. It’s expected to reach 60. But alas, it’ll be in the 30s with snow in the next few days. Oh well, at least I got a chance to see my fellow little furry friends on the prairie path. It took me forever to catch them up on all the goings on.

So, another upset in the making as I type. 14th seed Mercer is beating #3 seed Duke by 5 points with 30 seconds left in the 2nd half. Now that will blow most folks NCAA picks right outta the water. The announcers aren’t even trying to hide their disappointment. Oh well, I don’t even know what state Mercer is in, but I’m just that big of a ‘anybody but Duke’ fan, it doesn’t matter who Mercer is.

As I always say to those right wing haters, if you didn’t complain when Laura Bush and her family went where ever it was they wanted to travel, then keep your dam mouth close now. And that goes for any of the ones on the left and in the middle too. My tax dollars have to pay for a dam war we were lied into, were 4000 American soldiers were killed, and you right wing haters got the darn nerve to complain cause FLOTUS went to China. If this First Lady travel across the street these right wing haters will fine some problem with that. They never liked either of the Obamas, they HATE them and that is what is behind all this bull of theirs.

Laura Bush made 212 trips in 8yrs NOT a Beep from the RWNJs.

How I wish that Mrs Obama can make trips every month until Jan 20, 2017.

Jay Carney in his TL had this POTUS with 744 interviews while at the same time GW Bush had 224 or so. Bush had the media supporting him from 9-11 to the 1st week of Sept in 2005, after Katrina……but Fox was 24/7 so did CNBC and FBN were all kissing Bush’s arse.

The RWNJ hypocrisy is beyond comprehension.

Great news. I was afraid they would take forever between sending people, giving time to Putin for trying to invade some other parts of Ukraine.

I’m VERY impressed by how quickly the OSCE has reacted. I wouldn’t be surprised AT ALL if President Obama and his team have exerted good leadership on that one, behind the scenes. All the european leaders, for political reasons, try to demonstrate in public a certain independence from the USA. However, behind the scenes, I’m convinced that President Obama has a lot of influence on them. He is calm, fearless, strategic, visionary. He respects them, he empowers them but he gives them guidance; in short, he is a TRUE LEADER and they know it.

“The Permanent Council decided in a special session on Ukraine today to deploy an OSCE Special Monitoring Mission of international observers to Ukraine: the mission’s aim is to contribute to reducing tensions and fostering peace, stability and security.

Throughout the country, the mission will gather information and report on the security situation as well as establish and report facts regarding incidents, including those concerning alleged violations of fundamental OSCE principles and commitments. It will also monitor the human rights situation in the country, including the rights of national minorities. Facilitating dialogue on the ground to promote normalization of the situation is a further task of the mission.

The mandate of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission forsees deployment throughout Ukraine, to the east, south and west of the country. Advance teams will be deployed within 24 hours of the adoption of this decision. Initially, the mission will consist of 100 civilian monitors and may expand by a total of up to 400 additional monitors. The monitoring mission will be deployed for a period of six months, its mandate can be renewed for further six month periods by decision of the Permanent Council if requested by Ukraine.”

Creationists are accusing astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson’s reboot of “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” of being scientifically unbalanced because it doesn’t represent their beliefs.

Right Wing Watch posted audio of Danny Faulkner of Answers In Genesis and the Creation Museum speaking Thursday on “The Janet Mefford Show,” in which he blasted deGrasse Tyson for ignoring the creationist point of view.

“Creationists aren’t even on the radar screen for them, they wouldn’t even consider us plausible at all,” Faulkner told host Janet Mefford.

    Feel the BURN ….

“Russian stock indexes fell sharply on Friday as investors digested the impact of the sanctions on Ukraine. The rouble-denominated MICEX was down 3 percent while the dollar-denominated RTS index had fallen 3.6 percent.

Negative market sentiment was reinforced by warnings from ratings agencies Fitch and Standard & Poor’s. They’ve both downgraded the outlook for Russia’s sovereign debt from “stable” to “negative.”

On Friday, Visa and Mastercard stopped authorising point-of-sale transactions for Bank Rossiya, which is on the list of targeted economic sanctions leaving many cardholders in shops with declined purchases.

The sanctions against Bank Rossiya has raised fears that similar actions could be taken against other Russian banks, echoing US measures against Iran or Syria.”
