My team looked up all the remaining application fairs (Cover Oregon still sucks as a website, so people need help!) and are trying to support them by providing healthy snacks for the clients and workers and riding around on transit with brochures telling people who need it where to find these fairs or a navigator.

Judith, here in our PA county today, I got a tour of our Family Health Center and was thrilled to see a conference room dedicated to signing people up for ACA. This center is a busy place, so it’s the perfect spot for reaching people.

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m making Manhattans. Who’s in?

  4. March 21, 2014 at 8:46 pm

My niece is under 26, so she’s still on my brother’s insurance. My nephew applied for CoveredCA, and will probably get MediCAL. (Such is the life of a starving artist.)

I loved Labor Sec., when he was at the DOJ, and I love how he is out there fighting for people all over the country as our Sec. of Labor.. President Obama has a great team, and he has kept his promise that when he became president; his team would not be just sitting behind desks all day, but they would be out there listening and interacting with the people that they serve. He has kept that promise as well. People do not listen to PBO; he keeps his words and will continue to do so. It is a joy and an honor to be alive and helping our POTUS.

    The Joke of The Day
    By Ogden Pence from Unknown

Two men were walking through the woods and came upon a big black, deep hole. One man picked up a rock and tossed it into the hole and stood listening for the rock to hit bottom. There was no sound.

He turned to the other guy and said “that must be a deep hole…let’s throw a bigger rock in there and listen for it to hit bottom.” The men found a bigger rock and both picked it up and lugged it to the hole and dropped it in.

They listened for some time and never heard a sound. Again, they agreed that this must be one deep hole and maybe they should throw something even bigger into it.

One man spotted a rail-road tie nearby. They picked up the tie, grunting and groaning, and lugged it to the hole. They tossed it in. No sound. All of a sudden, a goat came flying out of the woods, running like the wind, and flew past the men and jumped straight into the hole. The men were amazed.

About that time, an old hayseed farmer came out of the woods and asked the men if they had seen a goat. One man told the farmer of the incredible incident they had just witnessed…they had just seen this goat fly out of the woods and run and leap into the big hole. The man asked the farmer if this could have been his goat.

The old farmer said “naw, that can’t be my goat…he was chained to a railroad tie.”
(I wish Mark Knoller was that goat.)

#TzarVlad’s bad news is only going to get worse ….

      “Belarus Wants Out
One of Russia’s Closest European Allies Begins to Play the Field

There is a bitter irony at the heart of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s annexation of Crimea. Putin’s short-term victory is already coming at the expense of his most cherished long-term strategy — the creation of a Eurasian Union, a trade union linking Russia and its closest neighbors. In other words, as the invasion expands Russian territory, it will diminish Russian influence in the very places he’d like to increase it. One need only look to Belarus, which is already beginning to hedge against its alliance with Moscow, to see why.

Fanciful as it might sound, the Eurasian Union was never idle talk for Putin. It was meant to serve as a genuine alternative to the West for the countries bordering Russia, including those on Europe’s eastern frontier. For now, only Belarus and Kazakhstan have volunteered to be part of the formal January 2015 launch. But Putin has been closely eyeing other countries in the region, particularly those that have been targeted by the EU’s Eastern Partnership program, which was designed to foster closer ties between the EU and Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, and Ukraine.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has exposed the strategic ambiguity of Putin’s project.”

So much goodness here at TOD!! And so much good news everywhere I look. I’m learning about Ukraine, but certainly not an expert and I haven’t looked at comments on previous posts here. I found this tweeter, Damon Wilson, a while ago and he’s talking about the #BrusselsForum. I was especially interested in this tweet which puts the problem with PUTIN not getting pushback on W. Bush when Putin invaded Georgia. I haven’t found an article to back it up, but I’d love to tweet one to the GOP senate as well as McCain and Graham.

I’m getting tired and not sure if I’ll be up much longer so I’ll wish you all a good night and a wonderful weekend!

    • March 21, 2014 at 10:35 pm

TME, no question that GWB enabled Putin in several ways. Top of the list – pursuing an illegal war on the Sovereign Nation of Iraq (the dead opposite of what his father did in reversing Saddam’s illegal attempt to annex Kuwait).

By 2008, GWB had set the stage for the emergence of a global depression, had completely undermined US credibility in the international community and Putin knew it. He knew GWB had zero tools to curb his illegal invasion of Georgia and ultimate annexation South Ossetia and Abkhazia. What he hadn’t expected was how vigorously Georgia would fight. If they hadn’t he would have annexed all of Georgia, as well.

President Obama has rebuilt not only our economy but, increasingly, our moral standing among Nations. He added further credibility just this week by blunting an attempt by Libyan radicals to steal oil and ship it.

Putin has severely underestimated President Obama. He’s going to live the remainder of his sorry life regretting that fact.

      She loves solitude
      And silliness
      And makes us all happy
      With her gentle ways
      She’s a gracious lady
      A supportive mom
      And a sweet friend
      And she likes to laugh!
But don’t let her fool you
She can dig in her heels
      And fight the good fight
      For the leader who
      Brings us all together –
Day and night and back around –
      President Barack Obama!

      Happy, Happy Birthday, VC!

Before departing, just had to post what is an ABSOLUTE MUST READ BY EVERY TODer …

“Ukraine’s foreign minister: The world must reject Russia’s ‘anschluss’ in Crimea”

“So, the unthinkable happened: Within a couple of weeks, Vladimir Putin pulled off his blitzkrieg. Russia’s “anschluss” of Crimea heralds a new international reality. To a standing ovation of his parliament on Tuesday, the victorious Russian president signed a treaty decreeing Crimea’s accession to the Russian Federation.

Recent events have dealt Europe and the global security system their heaviest blows since the rise of the Berlin Wall. Whether they are ultimately knocked down depends on the world’s reaction. But the adage that “that which doesn’t kill us makes us stronger” is applicable here.

Ukraine is ready to stand its ground. Crimea is Ukrainian. We have the law and the truth on our side. We won’t budge in the face of aggression. We will take Russia to the courts and use every venue available to make clear that this is not the way to behave in today’s world. And Ukraine has plenty of reasons to count on international solidarity.

      clip

Once Ukraine succeeds, it will represent a viable democratic alternative to many interested onlookers in the post-Soviet space. The European Union can find in Ukraine a new drive. The United States can find here a “long game” it is destined to win. And the rest of the world will sleep better at night knowing that the new international reality doesn’t depend of the whims of ever more Hitler impersonators.”

‘ President Barack Obama’s team is expected to land in Honolulu on April 1 to talk with local officials about their plans and vision to locate a facility in Kakaako that will preserve the Hawaii-born president’s White House legacy, a speaker at the event, told PBN on Friday.

The news comes a day after the Barack Obama Foundation’s release of a request for qualifications on Thursday that outlines the requirements for the presidential library.
    ~
The Barack Obama Hawaii Presidential Center Initiative has the backing of local political and business leaders as well as U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz and U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.

The Hawaii committee received the request for qualifications and plans to submit a proposal, which it has 90 days to do so, according to University of Hawaii at Manoa Chancellor Tom Apple.

The University of Hawaii is taking the lead on behalf of this broad coalition, and believe that it will be able to submit a “unified, excellent proposal.” ‘
