What we’re seeing playing out is the steady, methodical manner in which Obama handles everything. He’s basically giving Putin enough rope to hang himself. Now his fragile economy is going to have to prop up Crimea, along with Abkhazia and Ossetia. And PBO is making no secret that more sanctions are coming. No, trade between Russia and the US isn’t large; but the US has controlling interest in the levers of international finance. When Treasury says jump, banks around the world merely ask “How high”.

After President Obama is finished with Putin, Putin is going to beg President Obama to take Eric Snowden back.

RT News is not shown inside Russia…

From what I gather, the news channels in Russia are even worse. There used to be independent TV news media; Putin corralled them all during his first stint in power.

Let Putin corral all the news stations in Russia that he wants to, you can only out-run the truth for so long.

This morning heard on BBC that Angela Merkel has said Russia is out of the G8. Then when listening President Obama’s remarks in front of Marine One, he said he was going to Europe next week to the G7 meeting. So…….I guess this means Russia is out of economic talks and can no longer be with the big boys! There will be no G8 meeting in Sochi this June, I’m sure.

Twitter, in celebration of its 8th birthday, created a function whereby you can pull up your first tweet. It seems to be a thing today. So here’s mine:

Her son is a member of the LGBTQ community, so good for her for speaking out – on his behalf and on behalf of all homeless LGBTQ kids! These youth really suffer.

    Allow me my pet rant:

Why the hell do Comedy Central videos default to playing when embedded in comments? It’s damned annoying.

    End rant.

“The names on the latest list of sanctions released by the White House on Thursday read like a who’s who of Vladimir Putin’s innermost circle — ex-KGB colleagues, top advisers, and the men believed to hold the Russian president’s personal purse strings.

There’s Boris and Arkady Rotenberg, whom Putin brought with him from St. Petersburg and who have grown enormously wealthy since. There is Gennady Timchenko, a secretive oil trader who handles a large bulk of Russia’s lucrative oil shipments and who once sued The Economist for merely calling him Putin’s friend. The two are said to be judo buddies. There’s Vladimir Yakunin, the head of Russian Railways and a top champion of the Russian Orthodox Church. The list goes on and on and includes ministers, lawmakers, businessmen all with two things in common: their wealth and their proximity to Putin. The Kremlin must be freaking out………..”

Bob, I think those who criticize the president don’t understand the concept of gradualism. I’ve heard people questioning how “just” sanctions are going to do anything to undermine Putin. They seem too small, too lacking in drama and razz-ma-tazzz. What they don’t get is the president is warming up for Act I and there are several more continually escalating acts to follow. People want instant gratification. Bang the hammer now, get it over with because the idea of tightening screws slowly is just contrary to the way the usual action movie here operates. As always, the president remains above simplistic thinking. I love how he makes a public statement about each little increment just about every other day. He’s following his own script and it will slowly and inexorably build up to a climax. There may be some in Russia who smirk at at the US’s impotence, but they are as slowly and surely being boiled as the proverbial frog in water.

The President’s speech at Valencia in Orlando also is being covered live by MSNBC, when it starts. Thank you, Joy Reid.
