Another great column by Roger Simon—-‘Putin for President!’

Dotser, appreciate the article. Since this is Women’s month, I’d like to add how angry I am that the white male idea of “macho” dominance gets picked up and adopted by Republicans and loony lefties as if the definition of leader is “bully.” Putin is every rotten dominating male and creepy boyfriend any woman ever had. Woman are technically a majority in this country and more women vote. So to big mouth, weak-kneed men to who love them some ‘dominating,’ I say, “shut the hell up.”

Unfortunately, women reporters like Laura Rozen and Martha Radditz of ABC seem only too willing to subscribe to this sexist and misogynistic persona.

Don’t the majority of white women too vote gop, firmly and repeatedly? Even for the gooper gov’s who have basically declared war on them?

AMK, why is India siding with Russia on Crimea and how far do you think they’ll carry this “support”?

Cold war syndrome from early sixties. mostly to do with the fact US sided with pakistanis during that period and russia stepped in to the vacuum. Even now russians are our main arms suppliers because of US arming pak army. A continuing mistake from US.

    • March 19, 2014 at 9:17 am

LOL – he’s quite right even though his sarcasm can misinterpreted by some. And it’s disturbing that the same ones who were howling and yelling about PBO being a warmonger just a few months ago during the Syrian crisis, are the ones now cheerleading for Putin and calling PBO “weak.”

Good morning. I’ve been thinking a lot about the tremendous burden on the president right now. He has to cheer lead the final push for ACA enrollment; he has to go around raising funds so the DNC can make a solid effort to win in 2014; he has to deal with Senate cowards who turn down his qualified appointments; he has to handle Netanyahu and his crazed efforts to mess up an Israel/ Palestine accord; and he has to wrestle with an insanely out of control Putin (and his nuke threatening cohorts) as well the the grim potential for massive carnage in Ukraine. He has to shore up NATO, work to build the US presence in the Pacific, manage the endless natural disasters that afflict us and deal with the most utterly dysfunctional US House in history. The only clear and visible way I know to show that he is loved and supported by millions is to go out work our brains out for a big turnout in November so we can win every damn seat we can. I’d love to be able to say to our president–“we did this because we love you. and we have your back!”

The billionaire Repub. candidate for gov., Bruce Rauner, was able to buy his candidacy in the Illinois primary yesterday. I believe Illinois had a record-setting low turnout—-around 16% bothered to show up. So everyone is predicting that this will be a record setting campaign, estimates in the multiple millions, a knock down, drag out fight. (Imagine what all that money could do for the good of Illinois) Rauner is the new hero of the 1%ers, one goal is to put a final nail into the existence of unions, Gov. Walker said to be his role model, said to have national ambitions after he buys Illinois. Another interesting tidbit—-said to be good friends with Mayor Rahm.
Gov. Quinn is out with his first ad of the campaign, and we’re off and running:

What a terrific ad. I look forward to your updates on this race.

    • 35 debz
      March 19, 2014 at 10:15 am

Two points on Rauner’s win. Check out the map on the Sun Times web site. Rauner won in the wealthier part of the state, Chicago, suburbs and everything north. The rest of the state voted for Dillard.
2nd point, the low turnout should prove that in any non presidential election or primary, turnout makes all the difference in the world. If dems vote, we win.

    • 36 57andfemale
      March 19, 2014 at 11:39 am

It was closer than anticipated, not that Dillard is any better.

I watched as much as I could stomach of Rauner last night. He’s already running on fumes. Quinn came out swinging, and although Quinn is in for the fight of his life (and the life of Illinois) don’t count him out.

I will have to send him money. It’s all about the money.

I honestly don’t know what it takes to get sane Americans to vote. The RWNJ’s have convinced Americans that there is no point in being engaged in the political process. That is what’s killing us.

Gov O’Malley is one of the few politicians who always cites PBO and is never afraid to show his support for PBO’s policies. This is the mark of a person with inner conviction – not one who addicted to playing silly political games like HRC. You will never find O’Malley going on TV or writing op-eds with veiled or direct criticisms of PBO, or wishy-washy support, or “distancing” himself from PBO. I hope he decides to run – he will have my full support.

    • 39 dotster3
      March 19, 2014 at 9:38 am

I keep hoping his candidacy will snowball. it’s the Hillary inevitability which stands in the way. Always appreciate his nods to PBO also. Need new blood——no more Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton etc. etc. etc.

        March 19, 2014 at 9:42 am

I agree. And we need someone who doesn’t make decisions based on superficial media narratives and DC chatter. O’Malley knows DC quite well. And he knows the media there is rubbish.

          March 19, 2014 at 11:55 am

GM everyone. I also agree about Governor O’Mally. He was one of PBO’s early supporters and has continued to support him. He is not a “fair-weather” friend.

    • March 19, 2014 at 10:12 am

I so agree with you…He is my choice as well…

i think he will be running…

    • March 20, 2014 at 1:19 pm

Authenticity, knowing what you believe in, not measuring public polls but using inner beliefs and stated goals seem to be mutual traits of PBO and Gov Martin O’Malley.

This is a BFD – Toyota misled people about safety issues (unintended and sudden acceleration, floor mats getting stuck etc.) over a period of years, and lied about steps they had taken to correct defects. This is the LARGEST settlement in the auto industry. They are going to be put on 3 yrs probation.

Off topic – our basketball team plays in its first NCAA tournament game in 8 years tonight – BUT, our coach’s son is having thyroid cancer surgery here in Iowa this morning. Then Dad has to fly to Dayton for the game. They are trying to get #teampat trending on Twitter, to support the son Patrick and the family. In case anyone wants to participate. Just FYI.

Mornin’ TODers! So many wonderful posts over the past couple of days and me stuck at work, unable to cry, laugh or comment.

Have another great Obamacare story to share though I’m still short on details but was so excited I wanted to share.
My sister, who has been without insurance for a year since her divorce, just texted me this:
” OMG! Thank you so much for telling me about healthcare.gov! I got a great deal on health and dental insurance and can finally have my cysts removed. Thank you, President Obama!

OK, I just talked to her and she is, quite literally, in tears. here are the deets: Blue Cross Advantage plan $35 copay, $0 deductible, $500 out of pocket max. Prescriptions $0 for generics includes vision which the cover at 80%. She would have been paying $34.00 a month but added dental for $20. Grand total $54.00 a month. If she wants the PPO it will be $122.00 including dental. I’m so happy for her! As someone who was without health insurance for 6 years until I remarried, I know what peace of mind it brings.
